When I released "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" there were a TON of requests for "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" so naturally, I ignored them until i could ignore no longer. You have to admit, i gave a pretty solid effort of putting this off for as long as possible, which i think by now we can all agree is what I do best. ;)

For those of you that aren't familiar, Jim Croce released this song in 1973 and in my research for this track, i learned that Leroy Brown was an actual person that really existed. Who Knew?! How many of Leroy's characteristics are true to life? Well, we'll probably never unravel that sweater, but he makes for one hell of a song.

You can watch Jim Croce explain more about Leroy Brown HERE. It's a pretty fun watch and i recommend it if for no other reason than to enjoy Jim Croce's story-telling.

Thanks for everything and I'll be sending along perks shortly!

So glad to hear you do this! My dad listened to this song so much when I was a kid! I cant wait to send this to him. ☺️

Marie DesJardin

I love this song and love what you did with it! What a fun rendition. Thinking about Jim Croce makes me teary-- he was such a great songwriter. Thanks for honoring his legacy

Rachel P.

LOVED it, Geoff! Now that we've had both of these requests satisfied, maybe the next Jim Croce could be "Time in a Bottle"? Harmonies were incredible, as always. Thank you!

Tina Wolf

Omgthis song I love it so much I requested this and you finally did it yay perfectly done

Susana

Thank you Geoff for sharing it with us, it's an unknown song for me (like most of them), but of course I love it, your voice, your 'shaved shoulders', your different T-shirt. And I'm so anxious thinking of your new plans! what is it gonna be??? Bye. Have a nice Sunday.

V.E. Griffith

It's bad, bad, Geoff. Badder than ol' King Kong.

Debs Badger

I *really* enjoyed the harmonizings in this one for some reason. Thanks, G!

Sarah Borzelli

I'm glad you remove your glasses camouflage or we wouldn't be able to recognize the superhero you are! Such a fun bop - I'm really glad you did this! I already love the steel guitar and the humming for the intro. And then the "scooped" hum a little later after the first verse and later! Such a fun arrangement, cool harmonies and fitting sounds such as the castanets- I really enjoy it a lot! I love the crash and the camera shake as well as the shirt! Now I have a question: Who's bad? Who's badder? Big Bad John, Big Jim or Bad Leroy Brown? And how can you tell? By the size of the arms? Maybe Bad Leroy had a razor in his shoe to shave his shoulders? Thank you for another so great piece of music!

Mia

I did not realise how well this tune could be wrangled. Loved the harmonies and melodic choices. Is it too soon to start calling for every remaining song on Photographs and Memories?

Manasi Kane

This was such a BOP! Looks like you had fun filming this ! John, Jim and Leroy now , quite a collection of bad men you have there 🤣 Love the throw back crash at the end and LOVE the harmonies in this one ! ❤️ Also , appreciate all the shoulder shaving efforts and the muscle tee 🤣 Thank you for the great time Geoff , as always you’ve yet to come through on your promise of an average time 🤣

Crisstina Joubert

Thank you, and also for the recommendation to watch Jim Croce, that was cool!❤️

Cynthia Ross

Wait…the shirt is green?! Geoff is wearing…color?!! I musta fell into an alternate timeline or something here. 😝 Seriously though, fantastic color choice for you! I love the bounce in the beat you used; it really swings, and that key change is delicious. Absolutely perfect…in other words, your usual level of release. 😁

Karen & Lauren

I remember learning to play this song in my childhood days. Your spin on it is, well, let's say 'a refreshing twist' to an oldie but goodie. (I always enjoy the unexpected harmonic twists 💖)

Leslie Langfitt

Yay!!!! I have always loved this song. I will definitely be bopping along to this at work tomorrow and the next few days 😁🕺🎧. Thanks for another fantastic cover of these great old songs.

Sue Armstrong

I don't think I was one who requested it, but I'm so glad you did it! I'm old and boring enough to remember hearing it as a kid in the 70s.

Sigrid Verlaan

Love it! lots of energy. Another one to exhaust spotify with in playin it ooover and ooover...

Cloudy Skies

This is a fun arrangement. Thanks

Christine

Well considering the pretty unwholesome lyrics this was a very upbeat, want to get up and dance, kind of vibe. Loved all the Geoffs coming in at different times and casually greeting each other as if settling themselves down for a good evening's entertainment. They certainly looked as if they were enjoying themselves!

Silv E

Ngl, when you said the title I was like "but that's almost the same song as 'You Don't Mess Around With Jim'"! But I shouldn't have doubted you. Your ability to give a dusty old song new life is beyond compare!❤️

Silv E

Refreshing! Exactly.

Silv E

Texas Red? Okay, 'bad' isn't in his name...

Tracy K

Never heard it before but, OMG, I love it. Going to be humming that in my sleep now (about to go to bed). Another hummm-dinger from our perspicacious gorgeous Geoff. Xxx

Joyce Miller

Soon? As in Halloween or Christmas?????

Joyce Miller

Oooh, THAT was different! Love more of your higher voice in the mix!

Agnes EvaR

This song will definitely go to my walking playlist. I like the vibe, the harmonies, the instrumentation and of course your voice. Thank you!

Barbara Shuman

I grew up listening to Jim Croce, and I still remember all the words to his songs. I loved your rendition of "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" and I love this one, too. My only problem was having to pick myself up off the floor every time you did one of your "Geoff" notes. I'll be helping out with the views because I'll be listening to this non-stop. You got me good on this one, sir, thank you!!

Beth Walsh

I have been requesting this even before you released Don't Mess Around with Jim! So happy you've finally done it. It's great!

Angie Woollard

Argh, I missed the premiere! I see the clones are back! But sir, SIR, can we please speak about your delightful tendency to pop in a minor chord when one is expecting a major chord (3:55 in this vid)...gosh please never stop doing that.

Jamie T.

OH YES, that would be awesome! I too would love for Geoff to cover Time In A Bottle, one of my top favorite Jim Croce songs.

Jaezrar

Awesome! Loved this 😸 One question though: Why is it funny the girl's name was Doris? I'm really curious now 😹

Emma Yadkin

Dusty ol' me remembers when Croce released this song. Big fan of his music and very glad to see your covers of his songs. Since this hasn't even hit the public yet, I'll wait a while before starting to request "Time in a Bottle" but be forewarned...soon!

Holly G

Barbershop Brown

Jamie T.

I've been hoping you'd cover this one and I love what you did with it! I just swayed in my chair the whole time. 😊Thank you for the link too; I actually went and watched Jim Croce explain before I watched your cover. Please add Jim's "Time In A Bottle" and "Operator" to your "maybe some day sooooon" list?

Talbot

Layne's youngest daughter is named Doris. That might've been her he was talking to at the end.

Kathy Pricer

OMG, I'm so excited!! As one of those who immediately requested this song as soon as You Don't Mess Around with Jim was released, I am truly in Acca Heaven!!! And I'd love to hear Time In A Bottle as well! Thank you so much for finally doing this song!

Daniel Anderson

I mean, is there anything else that I can possibly say? It's going to be great Geoff. Thank you for all you do and sharing your great covers with us! Your music brings me so much joy and inspiration. 😊

Eileen Parkman

That was a lot of fun. Top-notch arrangement! Perhaps you'll make it a trilogy with "Time in a Bottle."

Jaezrar

Oh right! Of course. The cute one from the videos :) Thanks

Lynn M

Geoff, I knew you would do a great job on this song when I joined the chorus requesting it. You knocked it out of the park.

Talbot

This was just sheer FUN, I loved every bit. Now complete the Bad Dude Gets His Butt Stomped trifecta by doing 'Stagger Lee.' Meanwhile, I'm off to listen to this one about 8 more times ...

Talbot

I swear the beginning hum is Amazing Grace. 😂

Marna Brown

This is total toe tapping delight, and I can sing along knowing ALL the words! Yep, that's how many years I have been singing this song. I missed the premiere but it totally sounds just the same..... Super fine! Did you ever think your fans would be so observant to notice a new Tshirt?! I can just see you shaking your head 😆😂🤣 I just don't know how you can make a video so darned entertaining with a set plain except for 5 chairs! Must be the T-shirt!! Or maybe the voice??? Idk. Thanks so much for the wonderful new song, you're the best ❣️ 💕 💕 💕

Karen Campbell

I loved it! Gets your feet tapping 😊

Suzann Harris

Baddest rendition EVER! Love, love, love this!!!

Scott Boa

You're spoiling us Geoff. The harmonies were ridiculous. I love it. ♥️

Joe Portell

Thank you Geoff, that was amazing! As like many others, I've been waiting patiently for this song lol. I'm glad you did it!

Scott Boa

A few dozen times.

Maggie S

Most Excellent! I graduated high school and matriculated to university in 1973. This song was a hit back then and played constantly, somewhere on the campus. The cover is the best! Thank you, Geoff (and the Geoffettes); and Kathy for all of her contributions toward the making of this video.

James Yang

Feels like You don't mess around with Jim 2.0 and I'm here for it!! Thanks for another catchy tune and wonderful video!! ❤️

Marie Galaxy

“Stagger Lee” would be so great! It needs Geoff’s perfect update.

Loralei Dragon

This brings back a vivid memory of being a little girl and dancing around the house singing this song - which leads me to question some of my parents choices. Love the callbacks you included to the earlier Croce song!

Marie Galaxy

I had Jim Croce’s ‘Greatest Hits’ on an 8-track tape (yes, I’m that old) and played it repeatedly in my 66 Mustang and my room of course. So glad you finally decided to cover this song! It’s such a good one of Jim’s. Love your version like crazy! Also, nice muscle shirt!!! 💜

Dolly Geotes

I did watch watch the Jim Croce video. I agree it was worth the watch

Dolly Geotes

We need to flood Geoff with requests for Time In A Bottle

Karen & Lauren

for the curious folks.... range is G1 to A4... and there are eleven G1s not including two of the slides that sound like they don't quite make it that far. Gosh darn it Geoff.

Rachel P.

I'll sign the petition! LOL

Ira Kroll

Very nice. I really liked singing along with the low bass parts. Nice harmonies

Julie C

What you do is difficult at the best of times. I was so glad to see you having fun. Looked like you really enjoyed the music. It was excellent. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. Also, thanks to Kathy for sharing you with us.

Jeanette Pencz

Thank you so much for another „dusty old“ song 😁 I am not as old as a dinosaur but I knew this song from my childhood 😂 You made an awesome rendition 👏👏

Gary Henderson

Wonderful! I've always loved this song, and yours gives it a nice upgrade. :)

Dru Freeman

Geoff, this was absolutely incredible. It is obvious your love of Croce’s music runs deep. I was born in 68 and my father promptly introduced me to Jim‘s music. He’s always been my favorite artist. Your interpretations are always fun. I would love to actually hear one of his deeper cuts like Alabama Rain or These Dreams, though it would be fun to hear Spin Spin Spin, which he did with his wife Ingrid.

Ashley Evers

That contrary motion at the end of the second verse makes me so happy 🤣🥰 You has so much fun with this one, I love it 🤣

Jen

Love the color choices you made it really fits the song almost a dark alley feel. Well done. As are the arrangements.

KorKnot

I'll gladly sign.

KorKnot

You did an excellent job with this song & video. Thank you. 😃

Rahel

🥰this is a gooood song!!! I Love it, and your shirt too! Green is a "super" color ☺️. But the song should be longer,... An extra "round" with this amazing harmonies! Thank you Geoff for every single song!

Maria Rydström

I haven’t heard this song in a long time but as usual you have done a wonderful version of it. I really enjoy it and especially the harmonies. They are beautyful💕

Judi B E

I must admit I never thought I would hear Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown sound like that. So verrrrry interesting. This song was popular when I was still just dating my ex who was 6'4". He was not scary at all. Now, somewhere else in this big state, my late hubby, who I would not meet for a number of years, was also 6'4" and he was a force to be avoided, or so some people thought. Jim Croce wrote some great story songs. Geoff Castalucci arranges some amazing songs in ways we could never imagine. Well done again, sir.

Cécile Roussey

Honestly, I love it... and it’s so beautiful too!!! I loved it... and the deep voice that blends with his basic voice, I loved how he plays several octaves of vocals... and honestly, even though he’s taken, to release a song where there are 5 voices in choruses and complicated things to do for me, because never the same thing, Moreover, the accompaniment of music that he does himself should be done already... really for such a short time when some artists take 6 months to make a song, He does it very quickly and like a professional... especially since he works with VP and also has a family life... there to do in such a short time, he amazes me every time... and I’m sure it’s natural with him, he has a gift, he is an artist and a REAL one!!! Anyway! I loved it ^^ At the limit, when I see it, I’m like hysterical lol a hysterical fan... that’s me ^^ Well... for what I just said... If you’re looking for me, I’m already outside lol ^^"

Filiz E

I enjoyed this a lot! Thank you so much!

Silv E

Those unexpected chords in the second verse delight me every time, as do middle Geoff's hand gestures... also, didn't Doris just have a birthday? What an awesome uncle she has! 😎

PetraH

What a creative and fun arrangement! Love the harmonies, the steel guitar, the unexpected key change, the video- everything! So catchy 🎶💃🥰

KB👑

Which one of your clones played leroy? It was daryl, wasnt it?

Angie Woollard

I don't know if you're still making edits on this video, and maybe others have mentioned this already, but you can see every clone except center call "cut" at the end of the video...

Silv E

Green is my lucky color to wear - hope it's lucky for Geoff too! (He had a green shirt in OCOCE too, iirc...)

Lori Templeman

1000%! Geoff and a piano on Time in a Bottle. Magic.

Silv E

Funny coincidence - I dated a guy who was 6'5" in the 90s, and I've only heard from him a few times since then, but he sent me a dm yesterday right after the premiere! A picture that reminded him of me. He's a gentle giant, for sure, though.

Katherine Powell

Hasn’t Geoff also mentioned before that he does not like wearing green? Such an interesting choice on both fronts. 😆

Cynthia Ross

Yes, that’s part of why it surprised me so much. And it’s a good color on him too. I feel like Kathy may have been involved. 😉

Wolfhardt

Second that! With all my soul!

Judi B E

That is a coinkydink. Mine was a gentle giant as well and he seemed to know everyone in the county. I'm only 5'1", funny that. His nephew is 6'8". Our kids got my short gene. Boys are 6' and our girl is 5'7". I guess we averaged out. LOL

elithea whittaker

i was around when this first came out and we thought it was corny then. this, otoh, is good!

LaRae

Not my favorite song, but love Geoff’s arrangement. And of course, I’d enjoy him singing the label of a cereal box, so… I’m happy!

Nathan Wahl

Wow, fantastic!!! It's still Jim's song, but not just a zipped up clone. A really nice play off of the great original. I'm glad you put some serious thoughts into this. That and the arrangement, and especially the instrumentation, are a nice department from the norm. Not everything happens in a subterranean forest!

Nathan Wahl

That and some of those other chord variation notes added on top judiciously. Some pretty cool inversions.

Susan Aliffi aka fifi

Incredible arrangement and harmonies, sweet and TIGHT…simply brilliant❣️❣️

Cécile Roussey

And AGAIN the glasses just at the beginning ^^ It amuses me, Geoff!!!! lol ^^

Dame Valiant

Loved it sooo much!! Don't mess around with Jim is one of my favorite song of yours, and I'm so happy to have another similar song to listen to!! I have a special place in my heart for your pieces with more of a storytelling, folky vibe. They are a delight to listen to!!

Amber

I don't know how I missed the notification for this one. I'm glad I happened to open the app. I love this song and your version is amazing!! Funny enough I was talking with someone about this song like 3 weeks ago and it prompted me to look up the history, I only read it though I didn't hear Jim Croce telling it.

Tonia Richardson

Awesome, albeit a bit soft for the rawness of the character being described. Beautiful haronies! BTW, all of Jim Croce's character songs are about real people he encountered in his travels. Two huge faves of ie: Roller Derby Queen, Rapid Roy, and Speedball Tucker.

Tonia Richardson

I wrote my senator and congress representative. Surely it will happen! 🤞

Tonia Richardson

Me, too. I remember that plane crash like it was today. May they all rest in power.

Joyce Miller

why are people commenting about shoulder shaving?
