But Choose Wisely.

I kinda have a feeling which way this might go, but I'd love a little help deciding which YouTube Thumbnail to use. Help an indecisive guy out! Thanks!

Can I just say that I now want a parody of this song called "God Rest Ye YouTube Thumb..." 😂

Eileen Parkman

I prefer the Light. The Silhouette reminds me of a pending holiday clone attack

Rachel Blackthorne

Personally, I love both BUT for me the silhouette feels more magical and thus Christmassy...however, either way I will continue to watch it at least once a day...(currently it has only been watched 3 times today...6 yesterday, a dozen on the first day...)

ObscureReferenceWoman

Merry and bright, I think. But it's not like we wouldn't recognize that silhouette...☺️

Angie Woollard

Y'know, I can see arguments for both photos. I love the mystery of the silhouette photo, but people are drawn to a face they can see and identify with. You have such a following now that people will be excited to see your face in the light.

Huldra Draco

definitely prefer the bright one

Carol Franklin

I’m going for light it feels more Christmassy but they both work well

Veronica Thunander

I chose the one where we can see your face. I can see the appeal of the silhouette photo too, though. And besides, I’m not wise...

Tine

I prefer the silhouette one for now.. It looks more interesting and more dramatic for people who don't know who you are and what you do, to click on and might more easily attract their attention. It stands out more than the lighter one with 4 'Geoffs'. If that makes sense. Although perhaps a lighter one would be nice, but then I think I might prefer just a headshot of one 'Geoff' and not all 4 as thumbnails are small, and having one face to focus on will draw attention more easily..

Els Peeters (=jopperke)

I put both of them next to each other in thumbnail-size, closed my eyes and chose the one where my eyes were drawn to when I opened them. It was the silhouette one.

Helen A

Definitely the Light. Four guys lurking in the shadows above that particular title caption makes me think of a holiday-themed horror movie.

Katie D

I like both, but the light catches the eye more, in my opinion 🙂

Annie A.

I like the colors in the silhouette one, but it's giving me Sith Lord vibes...

Amanda Hovendon

I feel like the silhouette one is more interesting

Gretchen G

Yes, exactly! I was just thinking that he (they?) looks like a Star Wars character in that one. It's really cool, but maybe not an ideal Christmas vibe, ya know? 😅

Gretchen G

They both look awesome! But the light one jumps out at me more. 🙂

Tiina Nyrhinen

The choice was clear to me right away. The silhouette! It looks mysterious and inviting to me. Not too scary, there is the title giving it context. The light looks like just a paused video with all Geoffs in different positions. It wasn't appealing, to my eyes anyway. Maybe that's just me.

Amanda W

I like both, but I think the text could be aligned better. Maybe a better font too. PS: That outfit makes me think of an emo nutcracker. You just need a little guy-liner to complete the look. 😁

Robert Ferney

Being able to see your face is preferable IMHO. Seeing your face (more than once even) immediately lets us know it's one of your covers, without even reading anything.

Lady Wytch

The light one seems more in keeping with the season. Hold on to the silhouette, though, because it could apply for so many others!

Bard

Silhouette is more striking! Definitely that one.

Alid Sinistra

Silhouette reminds me of the first "New" Dr. Who Christmas episode, where Christmas trees and Mannequin musicians were trying to kill people.....

Ilona Dever

Your face is too gorgeous to be hidden in the thumb!

Amanda Fuller

We definitely wanna see you Geoff! Lighter one.❤

Raevon

I like the silhoutte one. I agree with Bard, it is more striking.

Suzy Bailey

I was immediately going to say the light one because people would recognize you, (and it is a very handsome face). But I'm really loving the the colour and mystery of the other. So silhouette for me please!

Hunter

Oh god…I’m indecisive about most things…I won’t be much help…but since I MUST choose. I pick…

Diane Hodge

I love both, but the silhouette edges out the light one just a smidge,

Clare Corre

I do agree with what Tiina and Bard said -- the silhouette is more mysterious and striking and has dramatic flair. The contrast of the light from the windows with the teal color is more appealing, I think, than straight teal color. The darkened figures invite you in rather than the snapshot of you singing the different parts. It looks like light is way ahead of silhouette in the votes, but that still is not as inviting in my opinion, but not to worry, people are drawn to your voice and not your appearance -- well, okay, you're adorable -- and so they will click and listen no matter what:-)

Elise Moore

Actually I like neither. Too many figures. Better just one you closer up in my humble opinion.

Alid Sinistra

I would humbly suggest (now that I have watched the video) that a good thumbnail might be made of the wreath from the back wall framing your face, whether front or side view. However, I don't know anything about the creation of YouTube videos and it may be that the still and thumbnail have to be images from the video itself, in which case my suggestion, although well intentioned, is a pointless waste of time. 🤷‍♀️

Rachael Heidi

Even though the majority of people are saying light version and I agree that we get to see your face on the light one but I love the silhouette one best. The colours are nicer and I like that you can see even your feet in it haha. Whichever one will be great but that's my opinion 😊.

Marlo Schalesky

I also like seeing your face rather than a silhouette, but the yellow/greenish combo background is better, I think, in the silhouette. Best of both worlds would be to lighten the silhouette one so we can see your face but still keep those great background colors.

Penny Cummings

Is this one of those trick polls like Wicked where hidden option 3 will be the winner?

Tara Congo

I keep flip-flopping. I think I prefer the silhouette one ultimately, but I can see what a few people are saying about it seeming vaguely menacing (which is not something I typically associate with you, ha). However, it's very striking and I love the contrast of the background colours and the shadowy foreground yous.

Dominique

I will also go with option #3. Just take the best out of the two and voila, you picked my version. Will it be out tomorrow then?

Sophie Llewellyn Smith

The light version, definitely! The silhouette is too dark (literally and metaphorically). My daughter says 'it's supposed to be a happy Christmas song!'

Christina Dowdican

The one that shows your faces plz. Great song, loved the video. If i ever make it back to forida i would dearly love to meet you & the gang

Jacklinka

With the dark silhouette version you will scare all the YouTube the pants off, it's too dark even for the Dark GRIMMGUH Rendition. Voted for the "let's scare a little less" facey clear version.

Sarah Reach

Nope, not the Silhouette! I am not sure why, but I had an immediate negative visceral reaction to it the minute I opened it, and it is still creeping me out. I know this isn't the intent (and I do not have this reaction at all to the video,) but the shadow Geoffs just scream "home intruders" to me. (Sorry if this sounds harsh - I don't want to offend but you have this out to gauge peoples reactions, and my reaction came as a surprise to me and I think it is important that you know)

Hugmany Foemen

I voted light because, as I said before, your face sells and will continue to do so unless/until you shrivel into a Yoda-prune. The silhouette is very striking, though, so I'm hoping you'll pull option #3 out of the bag

The face, the face - the face is the brand! That is what people love first, and then the music! Also, I am really reluctant to download anything into my computer that doesn't need to be put in because of all this security garbage. Maybe next time you can just show the images with-out the download? Just a thought, still love you lots :)

Angie Woollard

You can just open them without downloading them. That's what I do.

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐱

Silhouette is better because it makes one anticipate what they will see and hear next.

Jordi S

Would it work to use some of the footage before all the Geoff's were synced together so that there is one Geoff with some of the set in the background (like the lights/candles/wreath)? Kind of a mix of the lighter colors with visibility? I agree with others about immediate recognizability being beneficial. I voted for the lighter one for that reason.

Karyn Morrison

Ohhhh that's a tough decision. Personally I like the silhouette. But the light one is probably better one to use 🤔 hmmmmm which one to pick

Sarah Roberts

Guess i’m weird about wanting it too be dark. I lean that way though!

Alex Walker

I like the background colors in the silhouette, but the Geoffs are kind of creepy. So here I vote for the light. But, truth be told, I like the one in your Instagram post better 😍

Barbara Binney

I love the background lighting in the silhouette, but I much prefer to see your face so I voted for the light one. Plus, the poses in the silhouette are like "I don't know what to do with my hands" and instantly gave me a "Michael Myers" vibe.

Peter Gregg's Patreon Page

That's interesting, I just right clicked and every option I choose takes me to download the file. So - teach how to do that!! lol I'm on a Mac, maybe it won't do that.

Cindy Barber

I think I could honestly go for either choice this time. I really like the lit windows in the sillouette, but I also totally understand the "weird" feeling some of the other posters have mentioned. I think what it is, for me, is the blue is very "cold" feeling and the windows being bright and lit up gives more of a welcoming and joyous vibe. That's just my take, but others are right that YOU are the selling point here so seeing you is also important.

Judy Wilde

How about a third choice - from about 2:24 in the screening video?

Angie Woollard

I'm not on a Mac, but I'm sure it's approximately the same - I just left click on the link and I get an option to either Save or Open. I just choose Open.

Angie Woollard

Or, to keep the meter consistent, "God Rest Ye Merry YouTube Thumb" *goes off to pen some lyrics*

Jacklinka

I think the best way is combining both together, the small previews and the download choice. I always play with the downloaded thumbnail size to see how it shows on mobile. It should be nice on a mobile and on a wide screen as well.

Debs Badger

I chose light, because it's the lesser of two 'evils'. I guess I'm just not crazy about either of them if I'm honest. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Peter Gregg's Patreon Page

Something where the guys are in motion a little rather than static like the 4:45 area.

Scott Richards

I love the bright and wider range ofcolors and overall contrast. It IS what you personify.

Mardette

I don't what we are doing. So just vote for me till further notice. Yeah, I'm that interaction savvy

Angie Woollard

Geoff was asking for opinions on which photo to use for the thumbnail of the YouTube video. The options were either "God Rest Ye YouTube Thumb" (the light one) or "God Rest Ye YouTube Thumb Silhouette." If you click on those links, you can see the photo options. Once you decided which one you liked the best, you could vote for your favourite by clicking on the box beside your choice. Aaaaand now you'll know for next time!

Mardette

Thank you. I didn't mean vote for me. I meant actually use my vote however you want. Angie Woollard I am far from figuring out what I'm doing, but you helped me. Thanks for that. By the end of Jan I'll be a pro. Light one for sure. Love to see that smile.
