I've spoken before about letting you hear the steps the music mixes go through before they're finalized, but I have two queries.

1 - I don't know how many of you are actually interested in that AND...

B - Patreon seems like not the best place to share 3-6 tracks of audio so I'd need a decent place to share these mixes if you'd like to hear them. I'm very open to suggestions.

Please comment below with your thoughts. Thanks!

Comments

Nathan Baker

Definitely interested. Maybe dropbox?

Tine

1. I would LOVE that so much. I cannot overstate exactly how much. Truly that would be incredible!! 2. Dropbox could be an option?

Angie Woollard

To answer your first question, HELL YA I'M INTERESTED. Maybe it could be shared during a webchat? And then you could explain some sections you want to highlight, etc?

Diana and Doris Donnell

We did a thing with Layne over Zoom which went pretty well! So that's a suggestion 👍😍

Eileen Parkman

I'd be interested in hearing the tracks. Perhaps a private SoundCloud?

Brianna Bianco

I'd be very interested to hear! I'm not one for suggestions as I don't have a lot of knowledge in this, but wherever they end up, I'm in!

Sophie Heidi

That would be awesome! 😍 I agree with Alex and Nathan

Amanda Hovendon

I WOULD LOVE THAT GEOFF! Maybe Google Drive or Dropbox? They both work for me

Tine

That would be cool too, to go over it during a webchat

Sina Sörnsen

Mark me down as VERY interested, although I don‘t really have a suggestion for the method

Trisha

Question 1... Absolutely! Yes please! Question 2... That is a tough one for me, I like the Google Drive idea

Shannon D

I'm interested! However is easiest for you to share works for me.

MEGAN FEAR

I would love to hear this!! I think Google drive is probably the best option.

Sophia Sutherland

Would definitely love to hear!! A YT unlisted vid or Dropbox sound like they might be pretty easy 🤷‍♀️

Angie Woollard

Also, I agree about Patreon not being the best place to share tracks like that. Sometimes things shared in Patreon have a habit of ending up with a wider audience than was originally intended. (read: there are sometimes some sketchy goings-on and people sharing things they aren't supposed to.)

Brice

I don't know if we are qualified to tell you what to do with your art, please don't change your creative process for us, it's too good to change.

Huldra Draco

Of course I am interested in that!! That would be awesome!!

Luzanne Weda

I would love to hear that! Maybe upload the files to Dropbox or Google Drive?

Helen I Kirk

1. Yes, absolutely, definitely!!! B. I don't know, but some of the comments have great suggestions. I thought it cute that you didn't use 1 and 2 or A and B, but used 1 and B as the question choices! Gave me a chuckle for the day.

Debs Badger

(1) Definitely interested. 😁 (B) Too technologically challenged to make a suggestion. 🤪

Angie Woollard

Awwww....dude....I just noticed the 1. and B. and now I think my morning is ruined. *grammar nerd twitches ensue*

Debbie Goodling

What a treat that would be! Extremely interested! Dropbox or Google Drive would work!

Tim Mummert

I'd love to hear and learn about your creative process. As some people already mentioned google drive might be your best way to go, as it is relatively easy to access and has quite a bit of storage room

R. W. Hansen

Definitely interested in this. I hope it also includes what Hannah (I think that's her name) does for the audio too. That had always intrigued me.

Patricia Schuman

Definitely interested, dropbox or googledrive best for me

emma🖤

I love all of the behind the scenes stuff so I'd love to hear them! I also agree with the people saying to try Google drive 💓

Katie D

I am also very interested! Alas, I have no suggestions for a platform on which to share it, but I'm sure others have plenty of suggestions 😊

Helen I Kirk

Just a note... somehow Dropbox doesn't work for me, and usually I am not technically challenged. Even in college when the instructor had us upload homework using Dropbox, I couldn't. The instructor finally allowed me to just send it via email.

Hilde

Would LOVE it 😊

Gretchen G

1 - VERY Interested! B - I just use Google Drive for everything. Would that work? Also, maybe make it something Patrons have to specifically ask to be added to or opt into somehow? So it's a little more contained, and to help keep it from wandering out onto the internet?

Åse M Bruun Lagnestål

I really would appreciate hearing that! 🥰👍 A zoom chat would be wonderful but takes time. Otherwise google drive is working good.

Barbara Binney

1. OH, HELL YEAH! B. I know next to nothing about technology so, unfortunately, I have no answer for this question.

Laura Müller

1. HELL YEAH! I am definitely interested. B. Both Dropbox or Google Drive should work.

Katherine Powell

My brain just went to that's a very Home Alone thing to do. :D Buzz when explaining why he's not worried about Kevin: "A, I'm not that lucky. Two, we use smoke detectors and D, we live on the most boring street in the whole United States of America, where nothing even remotely dangerous will happen. Period." - Buzz

Sarah Reach

YES we are interested! We have so many of variety of music and tech nerds here, having MORE auditory BTS will always be welcome! I don't have a strong preference or suggestion for the format, but all the suggested I have read above would work for me. I especially like Angie's idea of you guiding us through the clips in one of the webchats, but we would also enjoy digging through them and finding the changes ourselves.

Gretchen G

Right!?! Same 😅 I wouldn't put it past him to do it on purpose just to mess with us. If so, I can appreciate the humor. 😂

TheMarauders

Yes i would love that! I have no clue how tho

Debs Badger

Unfortunately, it has been Patrons who are letting things wander...

Novi Hallberg

It would be very intresting to understand and learn more of the process of how the songs develop, listen to how they grow from idea to finished track. It sounds like a very special treat 🥳😊

Lutra2732

Extremely interested 🤩! But I have not much experience with such platforms. We use Dropbox for sharing photos and sound files. It works. SoundCloud might be another option.

Todd Reed

I would love to here the progression the tracks go through!

Ellen Reiser

Would love to hear them. How about a private YouTube channel? Or a private discord server. Google drive will work but make sure you have the privileges set right. Vimeo is a video/audio sharing site where you can upload and make it private accessible only by a special url and/or a password. It is simple to use.

Trevor Ames

That breakdown would be great, Geoff. Interesting to see the differences (if any) in vocal mixes against orchestral/groups. Also, how about a gear tour? Some interesting items shown on the desk during the BTS for the recent VP track. Thanks for what you do. Google Drive works for me.

Sophie Plourde

I would love to hear them!! I'm thinking Dropbox?

Mikki Fullerton

1. Our household is absolutely, completely, very much interested in hearing these steps! B. Just a Google drive or Dropbox folder would be easy, very similar to how VoicePlay shares sheet music and the past mp3 collection. 0011. Your number system is going to get complicated the longer it goes on...

Suzy Bailey

I'm definitely liking this suggestion! 👍🙂

Kiri

Yes please!!! Discord could be an option (I build servers professionally so I could probably set something up if you felt like it but didn’t want to do that part)

Suzy Bailey

I was just thinking the same thing, I've never even heard of the suggestions already made! 👵🤯

Melisendre

I would be defenetly interested.

Lori Templeman

Any time you ask your patrons whether they'd like more content, I think it is safe to say the answer will be a resounding yes! Not sure how much this would add to your very full workload, though, particularly if another means of sharing the tracks has to be used/maintained.

V.E. Griffith

I'd love to hear this! You could do just an unlisted YouTube video with each step of the way tacked onto the end, with time codes for folks who want to skip to a particular step. Shouldn't be that hard to set up, honestly.

Suzy Bailey

1. VERY INTERESTED, yes! B. Sorry, no suggestions. I'm old and haven't heard of what's already been suggested, but if you post it somewhere I'll get someone much younger to help me find it! 👵👍😊

Rebecca Hendricks

Yes, very interested!! My husband frequently uploads audio tracks to youtube, but he generally creates content that is meant to loop, so it's easier to showcase each layer that way for him. His suggestions have already been mentioned, so I won't bother repeating them. I look forward to hearing the tracks individually if you are able to find a good solution!

Leigh Evans

1. very interested, please! B. I am not savvy enough with the apps and the medias to be of much help here, but I wouldn't mind audio tracks on Patreon or possibly Dropbox.

Jordi S

Absolutely totally interested!! Finding a secure way to share it so it doesn't wander far is the tricky part and I am not skilled enough to have a solution for that.

Jacky Friedman

I'm the same as Leigh Evans and a few others. Very interested as well.

Dominique

Would love to see what you have to offer. I’m so amazed by your talents so whatever you are willing to share with us I will be happy with. Google or DropBox sounds awesome. Thank you so much 😊

Veronica Thunander

I’ interested but have no idea what would be the best place for it.

Rita (idolanocircus)

I'd be super interested in listening to those tracks!! As a lot of people have mentioned already, google drive would be my suggestion for something like this!

J. Tako

Very interested but no clue about where would be best to share

Uta von Rad

definitley interested :-)

Ellen L Brownell

Thank you. I would be very interested. My computer skills are sorely lacking so instructions on how to listen would be necessary for me.

ObscureReferenceWoman

I’d love to hear them! How about Dropbox, like y’all used to use for the Partwork charts?

Dylan Reubenking

I'm very interested! I would personally recommend Google Drive because it may be easier to access for more of us!

Brett Morales

Definitely interested, private dropboxes can work i believe, or you make them unlisted youtube videos and share all the links in a singular post if possible

Dawn Ours

Yes yes yes and maybe on Discord? Or Twitch Adam Chance holds get together's about everything on twitch and reactors seem to like discord Avi Kaplan does mini concerts on Instagram and there is a place like Facebook called MeWe

Pete Magill

Yes, I have often wondered, "How does he do that?" wrt the audio and video mixing.

Jay

1 definitely, yes please and B dropbox, box or google drive

Cherice Evans

I find Microsoft Teams or Dropbox to be useful

Sarah Reach

My budget is already regretting this suggestion, but the extra work is a valid consideration. If you are willing to add this step into your workflow for each new song, it might be something to sweeten the $20 tier. I know that I it would work for me at least...

Alisha Watson

Very interested in this idea. Dropbox, SoundCloud, and Google Drive were the first things I thought of as far as places to share it.

Ilona Dever

Geoff, I will watch/listen to anything you put out, just because it's you. However, I am not technically minded, am artistically challenged and don't need it if it's too much work. Oh, a new merch idea.... a Geoff calendar.

D. Maenad Schluter

Very interested, and I think everyone has already suggested the options I would have suggested. Becoming a fan of yours has taught me so much more about the technical side of music and its fascinating!

Tara Congo

So very interested in this! I second Google Drive, but will also toss in Microsoft Teams (although maybe that's just a PC thing?). My work uses Teams to share private files (huge files) with vendors/contactors all the time. It's super secure and pretty intuitive to use.

Cetheus

Hi Geoff, if you are looking for something with good privacy for your fans maybe a (selfhosted) NextCloud instance is something for you. So you could share as much files as your space offers.

Alison L

Definitely interested

Dan Black

I'd be interested, though my interest is a bit more casual. For files, another artist I support on Patreon uses https://wetransfer.com . That looks like a decent option if you want the content to auto-expire, because with the free account, they automatically expire after a week. One nice big thing is people can download (using the custom link, of course) without signing up for an account. A lot of the other suggestions I've seen here require an account, which is annoying for those who don't want to sign up with them. https://wetransfer.com/pricing

Michael Rooney

Definitely very interested! It would be super neat to see the mixing process and editing phases! Perhaps a shared Patreon google drive of some sort?

Shirley B Karr

Definitely interested! No suggestions on where or how, but just remember you have Mac *and* PC users who'd be accessing. With up to 12 tracks, I've been curious about how you determine/keep straight which clone is singing which backup part when you're filming.

Tigsa

Yes! Super interested. How did you do it for VoicePlay when you shared the parts work for Mr. Blue Sky? One option would be to string them all together and then publish on YouTube with the thumbnail for the shoot as the only visual.

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

Very interested. Soundcloud might be an option. Another artist I listened to would put his previews-before-final out there.

Lourdes Sanz

Also very interested! ❤️

Christina Dowdican

Very interested. Do whichever format is easier for you. If i dont have it i will download it so that i do😊❤️

Amy Thomas

I am very interested! I agree that Google drive may be a good solution.

Beth Comer

I am a process junkie, and would absolutely love to know more about mixing, although I haven't any idea what site would be best to host tracks like that.

Kevin Snipes

I am very interested. Not sure the where the best place to share them. If you do, I’m ready to hear the mixes you upload.

Anne

I'm always curious about how things I done. I love learning new things. Sharing files like that will likely depend on the size of the files and how long you wanted to store them. I know there's Dropbox and the like for storing and sharing files, but for the size and duration that I'd guess you would want, the cost on those could be prohibitive. Add in the cost in time, labor, and money if you want to change location, and it might be easier to set up a more long-term option on the first go. It might be conducive to look into setting up your own personal website where you could host the files for download. The yearly cost for a domain and hosting is lower (ultimately) than something like Dropbox ends up, but it is more work to get it set up and maintained if you do it yourself. However, setting one up through something like Squarespace (it's the only one I can remember off the top of my head) could work, and, if you are interested in such things, they could potentially become a YouTube channel sponsor.

Jennifer Remy

Extremely interested! Google drive works great ☺️

Randiskye

1-Interested: Absolutely! And B-not sure about platforms but at the very least you should be able to compose them into an email blast to all patrons. Not sure if it's feasible, but that's my two cents. You've said you're not going to start on Discord, but it's also an option. As is using your website and just linking us to it for uploads. Ok, that was six cents. 😊 Whatever venue you decide, it seems we're here for it, one and all!

Kess Rutland-Edwards

I am so interested to see and learn as a fellow vocalist myself.

Rachael Heidi

I'm very interested as well!! Maybe Dropbox or Google drive.

Sol Tekke

Interest in whatever you said, check!

Christina Dowdican

I’m not music savvy but i love learing the process. So that being said…. I would love to see/hear how it’s done
