Hey ya'll!

I hope you had (and are currently still enjoying) a wonderful holiday season. This will DEFINITELY be the final video from me for this year and i can't thank you enough for helping make 2022 such a whirlwind trip around the sun. It's been a big year and you have all been a substantial part of my world for the last 12 months. You're the very best of folks and I'm continually humbled by your support.

I've had a soft spot in my heart for this song for longer than I can recall, and this seemed like just the right moment to put something timeless and goodly out there into the ether. We'll all find out soon enough whether anyone else enjoys this video, but for the time being, I enjoy it, and that's reason enough for a thing to exist in my dusty old book.

There are a few coloring issues in the draft you're about to watch, so go easy on me, they're being corrected promptly, but if you DON'T see them, then um... it's perfect and so are you.

As always let me know what you think - this will be going out to the public on the 29th seeing as how it's an "out with the old in with the new" kinda tune, so you'll have to forgive me on the short amount of buffer you're getting with this one, but I'll thank you in advance for your kind understanding. Like I mentioned earlier, you're the very best of folks.

Thank you again for everything this year and I'll look forward with yummy warm feelings to all the good things we'll create together next year. Stay safe out there and give everyone all the hugs. Until we meet again...

-G

Showing my age, but I used to listen to the Mills Brothers and loved them. You did a great job on this. I have been thinking how much I would love you to sing one of their. Thanks for making an old woman happy.

Jen

Just think. Most of the younglings have no clue what beautiful music could so easily be lost in time. Thank you for airing this one out and giving it new life

Sean

Awesome

Lois McCray

Kathy stole you right off the piano bench.

Lori Lundy

Lady D Richter

Oh, that was Perfect! Kathy looks good in that dress, and I love how she sweetly, yet seductively led you away at the end! I absolutely love love love that style of music. This made me so happy!

Hunter

Shenandoah feels take 2. Geoff, you laid it all out beautfiully. If I could type without tears filling my eyes, I'd be good. Sigh. Thank you for eveything this year! And this was a great way to sum it up. Phenomenal job!.

Debs Badger

Well...you broke me with this one, Geoff. 😭😭😭😭

Janet Towles

That was so gorgeous!! Even the opening piano lines were mesmerizing. Been wanting to hear a “grizzly bear lullaby” for a while, you did not disappoint!

Cupcake aka Toni

Perfection! Sweet, sentimental, musically gorgeous... you have the soul of a crooner, and no matter the octave you sing in, you bring that rich smoothness to make the world a better place. Thank you from the bottom of my romance-starved heart for this one, with its bookend cameos by Kathy making the story all the more poignant.

Maggie S

Crying, it was so beautiful. Thank you!

Amanda Nott

I am not familiar with that song, but I enjoyed it, particularly the barbershop quartet feel. And having a girl come in and take your hand at the very end is so sweet! :-)

Jennifer L. Cramp

You would release a love song when I just had my heart broken by a good friend. Now I'll never stop 😢. The song is beautiful though. Thank you for sharing the gift of your voice with us. 😊

Mona Iren Hugaas

Out with the old and in with the new. Happy New Year to you and your family. Best wishes. Can't wait to see what 2023 brings. Take a well deserved break, Geoff: and we'll see you come Feb 2023. Give my love to Kathy, William and VP. From my family to yours: here's to 2023!

Jacan

What a beautiful rendition !

Janet Wright

You have the perfect voice for all those old songs. And Kathy is the perfect inspiration for all that romance. Lucky lady! ❤️🥰❤️😍❤️

Katherine Powell

Stunningly beautiful. I like the grizzly bear singing a lullaby concept. You being in that lower register for the majority of the song was so soothing and so fitting for the mood of the piece. Thank you, Geoff, and I hope 2023 brings you and yours all the happiness.

Tiredlady

Fantastic! I've loved that song since I heard the Edlos do it waaaay back in the day. You did an amazing job! Thank you!

Natalie Heidner

I love it! You are definitely one of the most talented artists out there!!

Crisstina Joubert

Thank you so much, tears were definitely falling, but happy tears. I hope you and Kathy and William all have a very Happy New Year, and a full January break!! I will forever be grateful that you and Kathy share your time and talents and humor with the World.

Carol Franklin

It’s 1.30am & I’m in tears. Even though I’m 20 years older than you I’ve never heard this song before but it’s just beautiful. The setting is superb too. This was big the song I was expecting but you’re right it’s the best song for the end of the year. Happy & healthy new year to you, Kathy & William 🥰

Judy Kay

AWESOME!!!! Thank you! Wishing you and yours a beautiful New Year!!! ❤️✨️🎉

Eileen Parkman

It's a lovely rendition of the song, and some of the video choices, coupled with your mind cannon about the setting of the song...well, tissues were needed to be certain :)

Debbie Goodling

I feel pretty blessed. I never thought I would get to hear you sing this song. That was wonderful and the tears are still flowing. This is how I always sign a letter or a note to someone I love. Until then…

Ann Durham

Absolutely hit the 1940's piano bar vibe. Having the Geophettes in black and white was brilliant. And being led off at the end . . . sigh.

ObscureReferenceWoman

One of my fave Mills Bros songs. Beautiful. I'm in tears. Thank you so much for this!

Huldra Draco

💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

Robert Kleinschmidt

I can't quite explain why I teared up 30 seconds in and then cried fully for the the last minute. Thank you for this!

Tara Congo

Gosh, Geoff - that was so lovely. I didn't think I knew that song, but there's some nostalgic feeling attached to it that either has to do with the core of the song itself or I've simply heard it long ago and it's lingered about in the back of my brain. Maybe both. Either way, it's a wonderful choice for the ending of one year and beginning of the next. Thanks for all of the wonderful things you brought to 2022, and best wishes for a fantastic 2023 🥂

Dominique

It shows once again your impeccable taste in music. The delivery was stunning and gorgeous and your velvety voice…. incredible! So thanks for this birthday gift- you are the best! I have to mention though that I was kind of chuckling through the tears when I saw Jeff, Jeoph and Daryl all lost at the mic after you took off with Kathy. Too funny!

Jordi S

That was beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Sarah Borzelli

So so beautiful! I started crying when the guy from the trio started singing till then in the higher tone - and at the end again! Your voice is just perfect for this song! Thank you!

Trisha

Well dang man, you done done it again! I'm not crying, your crying 😢 😭 okay okay I'm crying! Perfect as usual! Happy New Year from your home state of Virginia! Love it Geoff!

Kraken Artificer

Oh what a fantastic way to end the video! <3

Judy Wilde

I was confident I wouldn’t tear up at this. 3-4 minutes just isn’t a long enough time for me to get that emotionally involved in a song (unless it transports me to another place and time, but that’s another story). And if I had just been listening, I wouldn’t have gotten emotional. But seeing Kathy take your hand that way…

María Gabriela

awww Geoff, thank you! This put a smile on my face. As always, you are amazing <3 and I cheerish a lot the love you and Kathy share. Happy New Year!

Randiskye

Thank you for putting the link to the Mills Brothers' version. I watched it before diving in to your rendition. You seemed a little nervous in your intro, but there is absolutely no reason for you to have been. You respected the original intention of the song and it's obvious this was a piece which is dear to you. That totally comes across in your delivery. The video was a very good concept for the subject matter of the song. Well done all around. I love that you reach back to some of the older songs and bring them forward so well to today's musical landscape. I've said for decades now that songs that were popular in another time should continue to be appreciated today. They still have worth and should be heard. Give me wartime Andrew's Sisters songs any day over much of what is being released by major artists of today. This was wonderful and I hope you always feel you can do a song because just you like it. We're here for it. Thank you, Happy Holidays to all, and may all the blessings of the New Year be upon you and yours.

Helen A

Wow. My father had a couple of old Mills Brothers records from his childhood, and "Till Then" and "Paper Doll" were my favorite tracks, but I don't think I've heard either since I was about 10 years old! This really hit the nostalgia button, which strikes me as a lovely way to send out the old year. Thanks for all the great music in 2022 and I hope you, Kathy, and William have a very Happy New Year.

Angie Woollard

This whole song is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard but no word of a lie, the progression of those last three chords LITERALLY made me burst into tears. I have a witness.

Janet McAndrew

This is such an exqisite, haunting performance. Thank you.

Tara Congo

Just re-listening (with my fancy new headphones - amazing the difference decent headphones make!), trying to focus on what's going on in the background this time, and have to applaud you for the instrumentation - it's subtle and really gorgeous. Some cool kind of electronic/retro-ish (like the speaker crackling) effects too.

Gretchen G

This is gorgeous. And that ending 🥹❤️. You're so great at songs that tell stories. It's wonderful how you can take a song that you love and make all of us love it too. I'm so proud to support you. Wishing you and your family all the best for the new year! P.S. Grizzly Bear Lullaby sounds like the name of Daryl's band in college.

Teresa Doran

That was awesome. I watched a lot of old movies growing up and listening to my dads records. The way you performed it was great!

Katt Graham

Love it!! Happy New Year!!!

Cindy Barber

It was an amazing cover. I loved every minute of it.

Tine

Wow, Geoff, this is just so incredibly beautiful. You always do something new, this time is no different. Without currently being very familiar with the original version, I love the route you've taken with this rendition. Stunning, and I'd definitely say a bit of a departure from your usual, but truly that is just totally putting your own trademark on it. We can always count on you to push the boundaries and try new things. For that I applaud you, sir. The video too, so different again, but so wonderful; Hopefully those last tweaks don't cause too much of a headache for you. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us, once again. Bravo. Just so moving and beautiful What I probably love MOST about this whole thing here? That you did this one for just you and Kathy. Incredible

Christine Estrada

The song, your voice, and the ending -- all breath-taking! Congrats on such a moving performance, and thank you for sharing with us. Wishing you and your family the best into 2023 and enjoy your well-deserved break! 💞

Lael Matthews

Absolutely beautiful, this is the perfect way to end the year. I can't wait to see more from you next year!

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

Beautiful song. Made me cry for assorted reasons. At least this lends something good to the end of 2022.

Erica Kozlowski

Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. Well wishes and happy new year to you and your family. 🥂🥰

Ruth Feiertag

I have been wondering what songs you would choose to sing, what songs come out when you are hanging out or doing chores. This melody and video are poignant gift for the transition from one year to another. I haven’t heard that song for many years. Thank you. I hope you’ll do more videos that are for yourself. Have a warm and wonderful new year with your beautiful family.

Amanda Yarbro

Beautiful. Please do more of this type of song, you did a good job of arranging a "grizzly bear singing a lullaby". The only color issue I saw was the 3 other Geoffs.... ;) Thanks for premiering it on my birthday.

candi lunsford

My grandmother loved this song and it was her favorite from the Mills Brothers so I'm familiar with it. I have to say, I love it sung just a *bit* deeper. I'm also pretty sure it was Kathy you were smiling at off camera. Thanks so much for all your work and beautiful music. Happy Holidays and Joyous New Year's to you and yours!

Rosie Boughen

What a sweet song! 🥲 Wonderful version of it, as usual, Geoff. The only coloring issue I see is the mic swapping from b&w to color in the close-ups, but everything else looks great to me! P.s. Will Kathy’s glove(s) be in the next VoicePlay auction? So cute!

Katherine Linkous

I hope l don't sound too old! But I'm in my mid 60's and was raised by older parents. I grew up listening to big bands, early pop music, and classics. Add my own interest in so many genres from the early 60's till current as well as orchestral classical, etc. To me, what you've just presented is so much more romantic and beautiful than can has even been imagined in the current artists. Thank you for sharing this. It reminds me so much of listening in front of the record player and watching my parents dancing close.

Jamie T.

What a beautiful song; I'd never heard it before. I'm so glad to hear you do a song just for yourself although I had to laugh at the how would a grizzly bear sing a lullaby thought process! I very much enjoyed this and I think it's going to be one of those that I love more each time I listen. Wishing you, Kathy, William & the rest of your family a very happy New Year.

doug muchow

As soon as the Mills Bros appeared on screen, I remembered my dad singing their songs. They were his favorite band! He has been gone now for 26 years, and I thank you. For bringing back his memory and this style of music!!

Diane Mo

This is absolutely beautiful, probably one of my favourites.

Amanda Hovendon

That was stunning Geoff. Just stunning. And then Kathy coming in at the end and grabbing your hand…..🥹🤧

Christina Dowdican

This is such a beautiful song. I remember watching my Momma & Daddy dancing to this song SO many times! It always brings back wonderful memories. The Mills Brothers became one of my favorite groups because of this song and all the great memories. You brought them back to me with this song. You did this beautifully & I know The Mills Brothers would be so proud of your version of this. From the bottom of an old lady's heart Thank You🙂💋❤

Jacky Friedman

Omg!!! That is so beautiful 😻❤️ Love love love it!!! I remember the Mills Brothers from my older siblings. I was born in 1959. They're 7, 9 and 10 years older than me. Love ya's ❤️ See y'all next year 😃😉 Best wishes to you, Kathy and William 🤗

Dawn Ours

haven't heard this song in yrs Lovely Job Geoff !!!!

Tracie Schlaak

It’s so hard to put into words how great this song is. Wonderful arrangement and sung so beautifully. Be still my heart! ❤️❤️❤️

Ashley Evers

Yes, please. This is going right on the falling asleep playlist.

Eric

Beautiful. Thanks, and hopefully the audio will be available later....

Jacky Friedman

Totally agree with the last paragraph. He usually does songs we request. This time it's his own selection. I do also agree with the rest but that paragraph the most.

DuchessOfBones

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Beautiful!!!! Thank you so much for a grizzly bear’s lullaby! Happy New Year, stay safe and happy. The video is PERFECT.

Larry Haynes

That was stunningly beautiful Geoff! That era had some great songs and singers and you did a great job paying homage to them with this song. Thank you for the song and for following your heart with the music.

Suzy Bailey

'How would a grizzly bear sing a lullaby'? Just as beautifully as this, would be the answer! Though I think you're more of a teddy bear really! 🐻😊 I managed to hold it together right up till Kathy took your hand and led you away, so romantic! You can keep right on doing songs just for you Geoff, as they have been the most emotional and beautiful imo. Love, hugs and all the best to you, the rest of the boys and your families for 2023! 🤗🎆💜

Ashley Evers

This is so, so very beautiful. You've put so much of the meaning, your connection to the song, in every note, it's like it was poured directly into my soul. I haven't been able to stop crying since Kathy took your hand at the end. (I also keep watching it. That probably doesn't help. And the eye contact with the camera. Who told you you could do that?) Thank you truly for sharing so much of yourself with us. You don't have to do that, but it is seen and deeply appreciated.

Tess

I am so very pleased by the image of a grizzly bear singing a lullaby.

Debbie Casler

Oh wow, Geoff. Absolutely beautiful! My romantic heart is full. Loved all of it from beginning to end. You most definitely picked the right appropriate song to close 2022 out on and welcome 2023 in. Thank you for sharing one of your favorites. Loved it! All the best to you and yours and see you all in 2023. Cheers! ! !

Tigsa

I love this so much! Thanks for capping a year of your great music with such a lovely selection! I can't wait to hear what you bring us in 2023 ... til then, all the best to you and yours.

Lorraine Tellei

smooth. cut off the last few seconds of the triplets standing doing nothing. end with the hands leaving.

J.L.

Never heard it, but, goodness gracious, this was so very lovely indeed. May the new year bring you and yours all the best and thank you for sharing this with us all. Ending was positively corking!

Ashley Evers

I want to go say goodnight to my parents, but I’m not sure how I’m going to explain the red eyes if they ask. “Well you see, I’ve been crying for the last hour because this man really loves his wife, and also he sounds like a grizzly bear.”

Gillian Drysdale

oh wow quite different but excellent as always ❤️

Doug Beck

This really takes me back in time. Always loved the Mills Brothers when I was growing up. Excellent! Thank you!

Ilona Dever

Absolutely beautiful, Geoff, I can't wipe the smile off my face!!

Mia

The echoey sound is so lovely. Great song, great mood. I dare sensitive souls not to tear up at the end.

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐉

Oh, wow! Just look at me now....a heaving mass of pulp in the corner....drooling 🤤

Elizabeth Robertson

Oh, wow. I forgot how lovely your upper range is. And you're rocking that old-time tux jacket. Marvelous and a nice way to say farewell to 2022.

Jay Fritz

Beautiful, Geoff. Great arrangement, and I'd second the motion of cutting off at the end with the hands leaving. Happy New Year!

Hector Solana

Oh, man... This was just great. I would say "as usual" but I noticed a bit of a difference that I truly appreciated. I think you did not go to the basement in this one and I guess you did it for good reason: the song did not require it. So, your choice was perfect for the song and no... It did not affect our knowledge of your "underwordly" bass notes. I wish I had the time to participate just a bit more but please know that I have enjoyed being here tremendously. And I am not planning on going anywhere just in case it sounded like I was... Have a great, lovely and safe New Year and until then (2023)!

TheFiend231

Geoff. Last year, you have been well-known for reimagining old classics such as Saddle Up, House of the Rising Sun, and Sixteen Tons. This year, you’ve continued this as you covered even older classics like Big Bad John, Ain’t No Sunshine, Ghost Riders in the Sky, and Shenandoah. What a way to finish by another old classic that has been released in the 1940s and it was so f’ing beautiful. I love how you modernize classics for the good’ol’ fashioned Zoomers out there. I do hope you indeed continue this for the modern generation to enjoy, with me being a part of this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, and may 2023 be filled with good songs and good times.

Faline

Just beautiful!🥰 I can't wait for it to be released, so I can share it with my family overseas. My mom will love it!🥰

Amanda W

😢💔 I wish I had the words to tell you how much you've helped me through this year. Music heals the soul, like nothing else can.

Jacklinka

Really beautiful and very lullabying, I nearly fell asleep during my work lunch break :))

Sarah Reach

I so love it when you pick a cover just for yourself! The passion shines through when you love what you are doing. This is definitely going to be up there with my favorites of yours. I am not one to cry over songs, but this one most definitely transports me to a very calm and happy place where time stands still. Thank you so much 🥰

Ann Durham

I'm with you. The ultra-low notes are impressive, but in this song they would have just called attention to themselves and away from the nostalgic mood. We know he can hit those - so he doesn't have to do it every time.

SunnyOutlook

Just listened again and started to get all teary eyed. The ending is such a lovely, lovely touch.

Ann Durham

I am going to second the comment that someone else made - fond as I am of your backup singers, I think this would be better ending with Kathy leading you off and not going back to them. That's just such an emotionally satisfying moment that I would like to hold on to.

Ilona Dever

If you, or someone reads all the comments - let the last image be you following your love away from the piano and not back to the three guys who couldn't get a date.

Christine Stromberg

Oh Geoff, that was beautiful. It had me in tears. I didn't catch all the words but that's probably due to age and slight hearing difficulties, (tinnitus as well) but it was still incredibly beautiful.

Gail R.

A lovely performance to close out the year! The Mills Brothers were a favorite of my parents. I hadn’t listened to them in decades, but I remember how well their voices blended because they were actually related. An excellent choice for multiple tracks of your voice. In the 1940’s and early 1950’s clubs often had photographers who took pictures of customers. I have several of those photos. Even though your set was simple, it has the same feel as those photos. Thank you for another year of wonderful music!

Badger77722

"The three guys who couldn't get a date" cracked me up, but I have a hard time believing any version of Geoff couldn't get a date, especially once he said "Hello".

Badger77722

As we've come to expect, a beautiful version of the song - and I love the triplets in the tuxes, such a nice throwback to the time! I remember my father playing the Mills Brothers on our old record player (not a gramophone, I'm not quite that old). Their harmonies always made me wish I could sing like that. I don't specifically remember this song, but I've forgotten most of them by now.

Pete Magill

Great job - love it. Thanks for a wonderful year of music!

D. Maenad Schluter

I listened to the live premier on my laptop, which truly did not remotely do it justice! Really needed headphones for this one!

Susan Edwards

So beautiful, can’t stop listening to it! Tender and poignant, so fitting for this time of year. More like this please Geoff.

Tracie Schlaak

You are a crooner and I'm swooning. :)

QalaniKing

Even then he hit an Eb1 at the end lmao, it's just a lot more subtly integrated into the mic which I think works perfectly!

Sol Tekke

Another classic from a classic. You sir breathe new life into these wonderful songs from decades ago. Great songs sung by great people that need to be heard once more. Thank you. Oh wait, do I hear the quiet humming of "Earth Angel" next? Happy New Year. Best regards to your family from mine.

Jen Fraley

I love this so much!

Randiskye

@Badger77722 Same! LOL

TheNightShiftDragon

Instant goosebumps! Such an emotional and utterly beautiful song ❤ And I love that you also get to do songs that you really want to, not only our requests (especially when they are this good ;-) ) The end is so sweet, where she comes and takes your hand, to cute!

Anne Williamson

May we assume that the lovely lady in the vintage dress is Kathy?

Randiskye

Happy Birthday!!

Shirley B Karr

Today I learned a grizzly bear singing a lullaby is the male equivalent of a sultry torch singer. I'd never heard this song before and did not know how much I needed it in my life. It's gorgeous! Yes, I shed a tear but only because of that happy ending -- the image of her taking his hand, barely waiting for him to play the last note, and him following her. Happy sigh. As an arranger and producer, you sure know how to tell a good story.

Veronika Troll

I fell in love with this song. I haven't heard it before, thank you for intoducing it to me:)

Ashfae

Ohhhh. This is beautiful. I've never heard the song before but I'll never forget it. And I love how it's been set, and the ending with her hand taking his. Absolutely beautiful.

Jay

I just managed to digest the song. this is not a genre of music that I usually listen to but man, it's beautiful. if you ever feel the need to make another song just for you, please, don't hesitate one iota and go for it... after you've taken some time off. no need to hurry, Till Then and Nothing Else Matters will tide us over till then 🥰🤗 (just, you know, do come back 😋)

Chere' Evans

the piano in this song makes me happy.
