Welcome back to the best, most thorough discussion about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the internet. In the third episode of our five-part game club series on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, MinnMax's Ben Hanson is joined by his childhood friends Grant and Ronnie as well as Ross "The Star Wars Guy" Pfund to discuss everything about Chapters 5-8. We don't spoil anything beyond Chapter 8 in Rebirth for this discussion or anything from the original game. We talk about the Queen's Blood tournament, Costa Del Sol and its swimsuit options, Barrett's evolving character and North Corel, and all of the sights and sounds of Dio and the Gold Saucer.

Roche roche roche roche. But seriously thank you 4 hour pod to listen to while attempting these insane final hard mode vr sims will get me thru the day 🥳👍

I’ll join in on the hours played check in - bit ahead of the panel 😂 - 245 was the last time I checked but I’ve been in the vr sim away from the menu since I turned it on this morning so let’s call it an even 250 . 3 vr sim fights and 2 hard mode chapters left to go

I have 0hrs played BUT I have heard 30-40hrs of Ben talk about FF7 games

No spoiler section??

My dog is so upset to get in her kennel because she wants to hear all the lore

The Canipa Effect

Reno likely won't be in this game in a big way since his Japanese voice actor passed away just before they were about to start recording. They apparently still have some past recordings that they'll likely use in the future.

I’m a simple person. I love this and it’s all I need to make my week :)

I failed to save this lovingly-long pod for work and devoured it immediately :')

Duderado

Thanks for reading my dumb comment about Tiefer Sutherland, that made my day hahahaha

Corey Haughey

Just got the game running on the steam deck! It’s local remote play but runs surprisingly well.

Freaking cool about Ross' NES club btw, wouldn't mind hearing more about that on a pod sometime.

I know you are closing in on final chapter, so dunno if you are checking in on old comments, but one note about combat. Sorry to hear you guys are feeling engaged with it. I think square did themselves a disservice in normal mode. Dynamic, things feel sloggy if I'm not engaging with the systems, synergy, abilities, assess etc. every character feels like they have a really well balanced loop and really excel at one or two things. Normal I don't think any of that nuance is necessary or even possible. Even dynamic some fights it feels like I barely get to charge my limits, use synergies to level them up, and unload during a properly timed stagger. But boy when the stars align it feels great engaging with all the systems at once. I don't know what the solution is, maybe it's just a gaming reality that in order to have depth, these systems must be optional. Btw it hurt me to hear you don't know what arcane ward is. It makes a circle on the ground and if you cast spells, they double cast, it's broken strong. Radiant ward turns her auto attacks into lasers and makes her ATB charge super fast. She's a combat monster. I need to consciously check myself from using her too much because I'm going for that Tifa date because I'm a sane human being.

Hello from the Future 👋, I've been stewing over a few thoughts and really wanted to put them down somewhere. So I'll put them here. I've got a similar relationship to FF7 as Ben, played it as a kid and it instantly became my favourite game with multiple replays. I might not have understood the smaller details like the panel here, but it didn't matter. I played Remake and enjoyed most of it, but did not understand the ending at all and was worried for Rebirth. And I was right. I put it down at the end of Ch4 and decided not to return. Too much fat that needed trimming. Unlikeable side characters (Roche, Chadley). And unnecessary fetch quests. But then, a few weeks ago Ben must have mentioned FF7 on the MinnMax show and it got me wanting to go back. So I started watching the Deepest Dive on Remake, Intergrade, and now Rebirth, to remind myself what happened. I was struck with how overjoyed Ben was with every single detail. Whether it's goofy character moments, background animations, or musical nods to what's coming up. And even Roche... Seriously? Roche!? But something strange happened. I was sold on all of it. Roche became a favourite character. Those fetch quests? I noticed how much character development was happening alongside them. The baggage I was feeling before became extra treats to flesh out the world and keep me here longer. I just started Ch7, and I'm enjoying it more than I've enjoyed any game before. I'm not even exaggerating. Aerith teasing Cloud on the "date" quest in Costa del Sol had me beaming esr to ear, and Yuffie teasing Barrett on the way up Mt Corel had me in stitches. I find myself smiling at something every five minutes, and it's entirely down to Ben and the panel being so enthusiastic about the trilogy. It's had me wanting to go back and play Remake to see what I was missing. This has been a late night ramble, but I wanted to put my appreciation somewhere. I just want to thank all of you, but especially Ben. I wouldn't be having this much fun without you, and this trilogy is starting to become my new favourite games, and it wouldn't have happened without you. Hang loose!✌️❤️
