What’s the coolest, most impressive/creative single button input video game?

Travis in Fargo

I’ve gotten like 10 alerts from PlayStation today that Cyberpunk 2077 is on sale, and the alerts keep coming. What is the universe trying to tell me? 🧐

Zae

I’m so excited to hear your thoughts on fantasy life i. Has there ever been a game whose systems flow so well into each other that you vibed with? I know tears of the kingdom has a very similar flow.

Geebeesee

Ben, do you wish MaxDood had used a screenshot of you with your eyes open in his recent thumbnail? Really fun (and surprising) crossover to stumble upon this week! Proof that the rapid fires are worth all of that research! Chris from Nova Scotia

Connor Hale

The Switch 2 is here! Some conversation around the new controllers has me wondering, do any of you turn off rumble? I used to love it as a kid, but now I turn it off on every system.

landsealion

Is Nintendo's way of doing business actually smart or are they doing amazing despite a subpar strategy? In the end, is it mostly just about the games?

Daniel May

If you had to summarize your expectations for this weekend's streams into one word, what would you use?

RynaGoGo

Howdy All! Happys Summers Games Fests! Now we have finally made it to the week Silksong shadow drops! Huzzah! My question is how many games will shadow drop in the exciting week ahead? Is there a chance there’s more than 10!?

L Stockler

Hey, Minnmaxers! Elden Ring Nightreign is a weirdass mashup between battle royale and soulsborne and I'd never expected to like it so much. Which other two genres could be a weirdly good mashup in your opinion?

Fancygraham

Even though I know Ben has an aversion to food, could I please I please ask you to defend your stovetop? Why is it superior over other types of stoves?

Memory Card

What is the best console launch line-up? Between Deltarune, Hitman and Mario Kart World, I genuinely think the Switch 2 is up there.

Noodle

As a relatively younger viewer, I feel like the term "game journalist" comes with a negative connotation in a lot of my social circles. It seems to me that this judgement comes from people jumping to conclusions off of video thumbnails. article headlines, and review scores (people still meme on IGN's "too much water" to this day). Do you all think this negative attitude towards game journalists is something that can be targeted and addressed? Or maybe it's just a symptom of a greater societal issue? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mike Lynch

Hearing that people have playing GTA Online for *12* years now is mind-blowing. If there were one specific part of Minnmax that you could financially coast on for a decade, what would it be?

Quillgrim

Are there any game genres or franchises that you immediately set to the easiest difficulty? For me it's the Yakuza series. I have no interest in being challenged by the gameplay. I just want to ragdoll some henchmen and watch the story unfold.

Fro

With it being the season of announcements, are there any announcements/ releases that you wish you were able to witness live?

Cody Collins

If you could REname a video game console, what console and what would you name it to. I know everyone was hoping the switch 2 would be the Super Switch. Mine personally would be changing PlayStation to GameJockey

RickyWinterborn

Is there any positive aspect to devs showing deceptive tech demos like the infamous Killzone 2 E3 reveal trailer and now potentially this new Witcher 4 presentation? Even though I know they shouldn't overhype their games, I can't help but get excited to see graphics that good, even if the actual game ends up being watered down. I never even played Killzone 2, but I watched that trailer like 10 times because it just made me excited for the future of all video game graphics.

Danny Champion

As someone who is always forgetting his amazing questions he would like to ask you for this section of the podcast! is there something you have thought of that was an amazing idea, then forgotten and never remembered because you never wrote it down? (I have done this for many things like song melodies/made up jokes/lyrics/general ideas/minnmax questions 😉 etc) and do you guys who all create lots of different things have techniques for keeping your ideas somewhere? From Danny ✌️

Luis Pérez

With NotE3 2025 going at full steam, it's interesting to think that the last "regular" E3 was on 2019 With SGF adding a physical event on 2023, nature is (kinda) healing. With all of this in mind: What year will we hear the majority of people start saying: E3 is truly back! My money is on 2027, but will it ever be truly back? All the best CLCs!

Juniper Cain

Hiya everyone! I've been going through Minnmax content recently, and I noticed just how much I have waiting for me until I've engaged with the associated media. Waiting to watch the spoiler section of the Game of the year debates until I've played 1000xResist, waiting to pick up Blue Prince before those discussions, the Metaphor spoilercasts until I've played that, to name a few. Have you got any content backlogs you're looking forward to like this? Games or general media you're excited to get to, in part so you can dive into all the discussion that happened around it that you missed?

Chandler

Hi friends Imagine you reach out to interview a developer that's never heard of minnmax. If they were to look up minnmax and watch a random video, which video would you want them to see the least?

Mike Fab

Hi CLCs. Sometimes when I’m eating I see an ideal bite, for example on a slice of pizza where all the toppings are present, or a perfectly topped nacho, so I will then eat strategically to try to save that bite for last. I do this with all kinds of food. Am I a freak? Love the show!

Aging_Poorly

Hey Minnesota crew. Notable that y'all are in MN with all the out-of-towners at SGF. Do you find it hard to travel away from Minnesota in the summer since that’s when it’s so nice up there? Do you feel superior for appreciating summer more? Are the rest of us the suckers?

Swansonge

If you could rehearse for any one moment in your life, ala Nathan Fielder’s The Rehearsal, which moment would that be?

resnet

Hi MinnMax! If you all get the portal gun tomorrow, how long do you think it'll take till you seriously hurt yourself?

Dennis Cortes

What thing would you want there to be a “version 2 of” that isn’t a game console and what would it entail? Hypothetically a better version of it, for example, ice cream gets an ice cream 2 version 🍦

Jump On Everything

If you have a group of friends you often play games with in person, do you have designated player numbers, like someone who is always player 2? Or do you just do whatever

Michael Berry

Which video game system/handheld do you think best represents your vibe?

Travis in Fargo

Have you ever worked on a project that started with the name, and then you worked backward to figure out what the concept would be? (Because you liked the name so much - does this make sense?)

Andy Weas

Hey MinnMax! Do you ever have weird FOMO? Like, I typically am not really worried about missing out socially, but I can scan streaming services for hours worried that I could be watching something better. How do you manage FoMo? Love, Overly thirsty to have his question picked one of these weeks

Muffyn Crumbs

Hey yall, I got a thinker for you: when do you think the most people were laughing around the planet at the same time?

Victor Pham

When will we have a free Palestine?

Brent Carroll

Hey cohorts! The other day I woke up to a scorpion falling from my head and onto my pillow. I’m already kind of a wimp when it comes to insects/bugs so this didn’t help. Do you guys have any memorable creepy-crawly encounters?

Jacob Mazanowski

Hey MinnMax… Who’s your favorite Fictional character that shares your name?

Pellaeon

Hey cohorts! I recently discovered that my cat loves when I play Factorio. Every time I boot it up, he paws at the screen trying to catch the tiny items moving around on conveyor belts. Do your pets have any favorite games?

Clayton Carroll

Hey Ben, do you remember the guy at the beginning of Clair Obscur who paints a picture of Gustave and Sophie together? He then mentions that he is submitting it to the opera board to be that seasons painting for the opera house. And when you visit the opera house near the end of the game, in the room with the large blue boy playing piano. If you look up the painting on the ceiling is of Gustave and Sophie.

Sean Remington

Hey MinnMax! I recently gave up on Expedition 33, I have multiple reasons but long story short, I just wasn’t having fun and wanted to devote my time to other things. I feel a little ashamed because I generally love jrpgs. I was enjoying the story so I decided to just watch the rest of the cutscenes on YouTube. What’s the last game you tried playing that was universally loved, but you just personally couldn’t get into?

Price Bell

Hello all! To my knowledge, most video game reviewers receive a free code to review a game. This typically results in conversations revolving around the time needed to complete a game, whereas for someone like me, time isn't a concern but the upfront financial cost most certainly is. Do you think that reviewers place enough emphasis on the cost of a video game?

Rikimaru

Hey all! What game do we think has the highest # of hours of entertainment per hours put into development? For example, if it took the solo creator of Blue Prince 1,000 hours to develop and it gave 1M people 10 hours of playtime on average. That would mean every 1 hour of development created 10,000 hours of entertainment.

Travis in Fargo

If you could only eat foods that rhyme with each other, what base word would you choose to give yourself the most/best options?

SuperThisWay

If spiders could talk and can reason with them, would you like them or at least be okay with them living with you?

Travis in Fargo

I find that I have a hard time remembering video game plot lines and stories. Maybe it’s just how my brain is wired and it’s more occupied by the moment to moment gameplay, but the story usually just washes over me. I don’t have this issue with movies, books, or other media. Do you remember video game stories?

Badmonsterman

Hey maxxers, with a big showcase month I wanted to ask how y’all feel about wishlisting games. I wishlist almost any game I’m interested in. Do y’all have a system to how you pick games to wishlist? Do y’all believe wishlisting helps game devs?

HaulingGas

Hey folks, simple question. Do you think you're a patient person? I've found that different people have different definitions of being patient, whether it's being able to wait in a queue for a long time or to tolerate a rude person's attitude. What does it mean to you?

Jonathan Dinh

Hey Cohorts, I finished up my Doom the Dark Ages playthrough and found myself trying to 100% the levels on my first playthrough and realized halfway through that it kind of ruined the vibe for Doom. Do you all go for 100% on an initial playthrough or not? Or is it dependent on the genre of game where doing 100% runs affects the pacing and feel like it did for me in Doom?

Michael Zajicek

Hey Computer Loving Cohorts, In this season of game trailers I have been thinking about some of my favorite trailer from the last several years. I find a good bit of nostalgia for going back and watching reveal trailers for some of my favorite games, and find its a good way to bring back some of the emotions those games made me feel. What are some of your favorite games trailers from the past and do you ever find yourself revisiting them?

Sincerly, Eric

Hey MinnMax. What Franchise are we forgetting about?

Poofydoo

Howdy. What’s more disappointing, Animal Crossing not updating the game much after 2.0, or Infinity Nikki nuking their game?

Rodrigo Aoun

Hi MinnMax crew ! I've been watching Kyle Bosman's Mario Kart streams and it was nice to get some perspective on the whole franchise. It is undoubtedly the king of the racing genre and I'm incredibly hyped for World, still I can't help ponder what the franchise isn't doing (or has left behind). I for one, have always missed character-specific special items since Double Dash. Beyond that I’ve always been a little bummed by the lack of synergy between MK and the Mario games. I'd love for every MK game to be more closely tied to the platformers, say, by making you race through courses based on Mario's adventures (like Pinna Park from Sunshine, the Forest Kingdom from Odyssey, or why not the city from WarioWare games?) instead of random stuff like a cake world, a bathroom, or a the nth busy highway track. Again, Mario Kart does so many things right and is undoubtedly the best kart series around, but what are ways you think Mario Kart could improve?

stairmaster_

Hello cojorts! Great news — Nintendo has hired all of you on the spot! They want to consult you for a new feature for the Switch 2, something that you'd really like to see on their brand new system. What would this feature be? It could be anything (either original or returning from a past console), so do you have a dream peripheral, or addition to the software or hardware? For me, I would want the Switch 2 connect wirelessly to the dock/monitor for a dual screen experience.

Ray Sweat

When I was in high school I played and beat my only Metal Gear Solid game, MGS 2. It was time for dinner, but I was at the end of the game and the cutscene lasted 30 minutes or so. I kept having to yell down stairs, "HOLD ON!" while my parents kept making threats about how my food was getting cold and how I would be in trouble if I didn't come down. I couldn't pause the game and the cutscene was neverending! I'm not sure it was worth the trouble I got into. Do you have any stories about getting in trouble because of video games?

Travis in Fargo

I started watching Buster Keaton movies last week, and they’re a blast, but they have unearthed a phobia of mine from childhood I haven’t thought about in decades. When I was young, I was terrified of silent film actors like Charlie Chaplin, and also mimes. Have you ever had a random childhood terror triggered by something seemingly innocuous? And if you haven’t watched Buster Keaton, a lot of it is public domain and they’re fantastic (check out Sherlock Jr.)

Erik Lawther

Hi Cohorts. Clair Obscur was my partners first proper dive into a jRPG. I am someone who usually falls off them after 20 or so hours so I don't have great recommendations for her. Any recs for games that have a nicer end game balance then clair but similar team crafting potential in the jRPG space?

Christian Jimenez

Hello, what 3rd party Switch 2 game do you think will do better in the long run? Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy or something else?

Jarell Pryor

Hey CLCs, Simple question this week ;) Do you think any gaming executive believes mass layoffs are "good actually"? I feel like they're all just acting out of ruthless self-preservation. And hope they're at least smart enough to think so too.

JorSneezy

Summer Game Fest. State of Play. Nintendo Direct. If MinnMax created their own showcase event featuring new game announcements and the like, what would you call it?

Duderado

What's the perfect song length?

Kevin Kuper

Hello everyone, with all the games announced and upcoming what is a game in your back log that you own that you think you will play and beat and one game you think you will never play. What is the difference between them and can you give yourself a deadline, however long, to play and beat that game? Thanks for all the work and happy SGF

Adam

Who do you suspect is the best liar at MinnMax?

Blake Barber

Been a while since I’ve heard anything from y’all about “getting better”. I’m turning 40 this year and planning a reunion with some high school buddies. I’ve been thinking about asking these guys what they would tell ourselves when we were 16. My personal answer would be have kids earlier. Everything I did before children was a waste of time for the most part. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think having children grows you in ways that are tough to achieve without that catalyst. Every second of being a father has been the best time I’ve spent. What’s your answers?

LlorchDurden

Nintendo Tour Deepest Dive when MinnMax? When? 👀

LlorchDurden

Hellow crew! Question for Sarah: Fields of Mistria Switch 2 edition when? 👀 Mouse /Camera support? Can you make it so MP4 AND FoM are the only 2 games running at 4k /60fps natively on the Switch?

Agu Crisostomo

Hello everyone!! I know Ben has mentioned his love of Survivor before - and as a fellow fan it got me thinking: what would a season of Survivor: Minnmax look like? What alliances will form? Who's the first boot and who's the season's challenge beast? And finally: who has the best shot to win sole survivor? (PS: this should totally be a new show plus idea!!! Dead Meat does a similar thing, so it's a good reference point and it's always a lot of fun!)

Michael

Hey everyone! With many speculating about what new entries or revivals of beloved series we’ll see on the Switch 2, I want to ask a different question. If you had to choose a Nintendo series to be retired, which would it be? The games you just never want to see ever again, and put out to pasture alongside F-Zero and Chibi Robo.

Gary W

What's something that's been said on the podcast or by a podcast guest that's stuck with you far after the podcast has been recorded and posted? Maybe a joke, something that's been phrased a certain way or even a life lesson. Thanks!

Renzo

With so many games revealed during these showcases every year, has there ever been one you initially dismissed or didn’t think was for you but later it got a lot of praise, and you ended up loving it?

Thorn23

Hi MinnMax, with the Switch 2 nearly upon us, and personally my final decision on getting it still Up in the Air (great film btw), I wanted to ask what each of you thought the most compelling reason for upgrading to the successor was? (tech/performance bump, new games, new features; ie. Zelda Notes, or perhaps just new weird-Ninty hotness) haha - T23 from Melbs (Aus)

AnAttackCorgi

Hello M&Ms! What is a baby/pet item that you wish you could get in an adult size? For me, I saw a baby rocking chair that looked comfy af and I envied that baby in that moment. Not sure I’m proud of that but judge me all you want, I’m a tired middle aged Millennial and I no longer care.

Chase Ruppert

Howdy M&M’s! Summer is starting here soon. What is your prime summer activity? I feel guilty sitting inside playing video games when it’s so nice outside.

Talyn

Hey all! It’s the Minnmax marine science teacher here to bring you facts about the dumbo octopus from last week. They live around 13,000 feet below the surface in what we call the midnight or aphotic zone. This means that there is absolutely no light… ever. Completely pitch black. This is deeper than the Titan submersible that imploded made it at about 11,000 feet. The titanic sits at 12,500 feet. Rapid fire: They swallow their food whole. They are what are called an umbrella octopus where their tentacles are connected by webbing. So when they stretch out they look like deep sea flying saucers. Lastly, because life is so sparse, females will hold fertilized eggs for months or longer in different stages of development. When they find a “good place”, they will lay some eggs and hold the rest. - Seth M

LawlWorthy

Missed 2 opportunities! Olli olli 2 - welcome to olliewood 2 point museum Kingdom 2 crowns And an obligatory TF2

MrButtons

Hey MinnMax! Deltarune had its “official” release this week, with Chapters 1-4 being compiled into a complete package on most platforms. I know many people, including some of the crew, have mentioned they will hold off on playing the game until it is “finished.” Why do you think some gamers take this approach with games that label future content as a “chapter” or “episode” but not with future content labeled as story dlc or an expansion?

McGreevy

Hello to the Cohorts, thanks for saying hello back. With the upcoming IOI James Bond game, we can only hope they have shelled out for a new Bond song. Please submit your band or artist you hope would produce this song. For me it is Hozier.

Joe Kafchinski

Do you think the reason the State of Play was such a late announcement is because all these September and October games were scrambling to decide whether they could be done in 2025 after GTA moved to 2026?

Braulio Martinez

Did anyone else miss the release of Onimusha 2 remastered? I thought we were deep diving it

Aaron Kuten

Howdy all. New to the patreon thing but just wanted to say hi to the Minnmax crew and the rest of ya. :)

Brian Sodano

Hello crew! I was listening to the amazing Clair Obscur soundtrack and the Lumiere track kept itching the back of my brain reminding me of something. Then it clicked....it sounds like Nightmare Before Christmas "This is Halloween"! Now, I can't hear it the same and it has kind of ruined the song (Lumiere) for me. Has there been any song or other media you liked, but reminded you of something else that made you like it less than if you didn'thave that connection?
