Hey everybody! Just a heads up that we'll be streaming the Doc Lightning Film Festival this Thursday at 7:30pm Central on Twitch, and it'll be up on YouTube the following Monday. Dearest CLCs, If a game gives you unlimited save slots, how many are you usually saving on average? I’d say for me for most RPG’s I use maybe 20 to 30 safe slots. I always keep five slots from the very beginning of the game in case I ever want to go back, the next five for middle, and the next five for recent. What are your save habits?

Dear CLCs, You ever hear about this Hollow Knight Silksong? Before this summer showcaseseason I wasn't that invested every time it may or may not show up at any showcase. However a month ago I started up Hollow Knight for the first time and have loved what Ive played so far. So I too donned the clown makeup when Xbox teased Silksong as a marketing tactic for their fancy little handheld without actually having a trailer or release date for the game. Have you ever had a "Oh my god, I get it" moment like this in regards to becoming part of the community for a game or other piece of media?

Switch 2 and WiiU comparison: - Similar design to previous console, but with a couple more gimmicks. - Backwards compatible with previous console. Including the controllers. - Relatively weak launch lineup. - Is destined not to do as well as the previous console. - Switch 2 and WiiU rhyme. My question: I like that Switch 2 is iterative. Microsoft and Sony get away with it with their consoles. So was is unfair of me to make all those negative comparisons between the Switch 2 and WiiU just now?

The tl;dr version of the question: Linguistically speaking, the term "Content" to me seems devaluing for all of the various things it stands for. What do you think? Do you have any suggestions on how to assert the value of your creative field and others? The full question: Alright, I can't take it anymore! I need to know all y'all's thoughts on the term "Content" - as someone whose study and profession focuses on the art of language, I am constantly plagued with the concern that standardizing such a diverse range of art, engagement, music, and various other multimedia experiences down to a blanket term like "Content" inherently devalues a number of industries and arts that are already at risk of compromise or destruction by AI and the general devaluation of human creativity. I think it's important to readopt a paradigm wherein it is okay to engage with, think about, and speak to each element of an individual or organization creativity in more specific terms, lest museums one day be referred to as content houses. Have you thought about this at all, and do you have any suggestions for restoring the cultural perception of value to the myriad things you do?

Hi CLCs, now that the onslaught of “G3” week is over, i’ve got a simple yet nuanced question for you guys to tease your brain a little bit. Everybody talks about “what’s the best bad game”, but i ask, what’s the Worst Good Game? For reference, the Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a recent example i can think of. By all accounts it’s a perfectly fine game, just not good enough to love. What do you guys think?

Greetings cohorts! On the subject of Stanley Parable and choices in games, what are your thoughts on reward systems for moral choices? Personally, I think the classic move of giving a short term reward for "evil" choices and a long term reward for "good" choices is not only cliche, but cheapens any attempt at moral reflection. Branching narratives are always welcome but this is more about direct mechanical bonuses with visible morality stats. I would find a game like, say, Bioshock, to be much more effective if you weren't incentivized to game the system. What are your thoughts on gamified moral choices? Do you think they're tacky or do you think there is some way to make them work?

We accept sports video games like Madden, EA FC, MLB The Show, etc because those sports exist in real life. But do you think there is a single sports video game that would make it through the pitch process if its sport didn't already exist? I mean, look at the mechanics of baseball. Boring, turn-based combat where your very best party member successfully lands an attack less than 1/3 of the time. Do you think there is a single sports game that could stand on its own merits? My gut says no.

Can we ever get away from all this video game violence? SGF was looking pretty Iso-Metroid-Rogue-Souls-Vania this year, XBOX closed with a COD announcement, and even my most anticipated stuff coming in was games like Ninja Gaiden 4, Onimusha, *insert 3rd sword guy game*. I love a good splatter of blood, but my favorite show of the weekend really surprised me - it was the Cozy Games Showcase. I’m not a cozy games person, but there was so much creativity at that show. Feels like the need for combat is really holding games back (looking at you, South of Midnight).

We all know the “Press X” meme regarding controllers. My question is, do you commit the button layout to memory based on the game, or the controller you are holding? I’ve noticed for myself, it’s controller dependent not game dependent. If I know I’m holding a controller with a Nintendo layout, I instinctively try to use that layout. I bought my Wii U about 3 years ago and it seems like every get together since then has included hours of laughter while playing Nintendo Land and Wii Sports. What gaming gear (game, console, accessory, memorabilia, etc.) do you most regret parting with? For me it’s PS3-era Rock Band gear. I hadn’t used it much for years and decided to sell it before a move around 2018. By the time I got the itch to play again, that gear was much more expensive. Mario Odyssey Spoiler Warning!!! I recently replayed the ending of Odyssey, in which you take control of Bowser to smash through walls, knock down columns, and generally wreak havoc. I suddenly realized that this sheer joy in environmental destruction must have been the genesis of Donkey Kong Bananza's gameplay. Even if it turns out that this isn't the Odyssey development team, I'm feeling confident about the lineage here. Other games have done destruction, for sure, but this is a big Nintendo bruiser smashing like the bros! Howdy Cohorts! Lately, whilst on a road trip, me and my friend ended up playing a game of "which director has the best (uninterrupted) four film run in history". This quickly turned into me being flabbergasted that my film-loving friend hadn't seen Villeneuve's Arrival. But I digress! This got me wondering: which video game developer do you think has the best four game run in the history of game development? At first, I thought maybe Bioware with: Mass Effect (2007), Dragon Age Origins (2009), Mass Effect 2 (2010) and Dragon Age II (2011). However, I totally forgot about Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood in 2009. One dud can really ruin a good streak so choose carefully! Thanks guys - love the show.

Ben mentioned weeping on an airplane recently. Do you have qualms about showing emotion in public? My last living grandma recently passed away, and I was listening to the Sufjan Stevens album Carrie and Lowell, watching my kids play in an indoor playground, and I started crying. But then a kid who was attending a birthday party there thought I was an employee and needed help finding the bathroom, so I helped him and then went back to my reflective episode.

Why have we decided that open worlds need to be filled with things to do? I'm seeing this criticism levied against Mario Kart World's free roam map, but I personally find it refreshing how Nintendo's open worlds prioritize sightseeing over missions and varied activities. A lot of times it feels like the reward for climbing a mountain in Mario Kart or Zelda is just the opportunity to take in a beautiful landscape and snap some photos. Am I the only one that finds this super liberating? Do we really think Mario Kart would be better with a quest log?

Howdy Minnmax! Back when the GTA VI trailer dropped, I found myself shocked at how close it was to my real life. I grew up in the Florida Keys, and my first car was the same El Camino in the same color that Jason had in the trailer. It recreated a lot of the atmosphere and places I look back on fondly really accurately. My question is, has a game ever intersected weirdly close to your real life in a similar way? Side note but I got my copy of Jacob’s new book! It’s great so far! Highly recommend.

One of my favorite gameplay mechanics is when your character is sliding down a large decline, and you have to slide back and forth to avoid objects on your way down, despite this having no basis in reality. My brain keeps trying to add another word, despite the fact that world makes perfect sense with the mario franchise lineage. Hey MinnMax. I noticed when Sarah literally jumped up for joy when Hatsune Miku was announced for Sonic Racing, Ben had a reaction to it as if it genuinely scared/surprised him. Before the title reveal for the Resident Evil 9 trailer in the Summer Game Fest stream, Ben said that it "looked Japanese." What does this mean? I agree that it was instantly recognisable as a Japanese game, but can't put my finger on exactly what makes a game "look Japanese" when it's using such similar high fidelity, realistic graphics to lot of western AAA games. Hello Cohorts, I loved Janet's piece on Pen to Pixels, "The Inescapable Intersection of SGF and ICE Protests." You had a line that gave me pause: "But for some in our industry, the LA protests against ICE may have been illuminating." It's sometimes hard for me as an immigrant, as somebody who is visibly Asian, to not stay hyper aware of everything going on. When I inevitably run into somebody that isn't aware, it can be hard to wrap my head around the ability to that level of ignorance and/or privilege. How do you approach these situations?
