At Summer Game Fest (I believe it was on the Giant Bomb at Night couch), someone referred to Minnmax as the Avengers of gaming outlets because of the huge variety of expertise and unique day jobs across all of the cohorts: The Venerable Print Journalist, the Game Store Owner, the Video Essayist, the IP Lawyer, etc. Thinking of yourselves as a supersquad, what other types of superheroes would you like to see join the squad in the future - even if only for a limited run crossover event? The Voice Actor, the Programmer, the Sales Exec, or... the TikToker?

Does pouring a drink into a glass filled with ice count as "making yourself a drink?" You had to get the ice from somewhere, so I think this makes it definably distinct from just getting a drink out of the fridge, opening it, and drinking out of the can/bottle.

What’s the last piece of media that actively made you mad? This isn’t something that you just really disliked, but hated so much that it upset and put you in a bad mood after consuming it.

Have you ever been unfairly grounded or punished? I vividly remember one time when I was called back to the house while hanging out with friends down the street. My younger cousin, Savana, claimed I was ignoring her when she was outside with us just moments before. No trial no jury, I was sent straight to my room. As I’m heading upstairs, my mom yells, “Jake, what’s your Wizard101 password? Savana wants to play!” Straight up Himalayan pink in the wound. To this day, I’ve never let Savana live that one down.

Hey MinnMax crew! First time question submitter. (I think) What's your take on the internet discourse around Switch 2's first party offerings being 'weak'? I know it's tough to compete with Breath of the Wild and Odyssey in the first six months of the Switch 1's life, but how can Nintendo really be faulted with a six month calendar that includes a new Mario Kart, Pokemon, DK Bananza, and Metroid Prime 4? On paper, it seems quite strong. People are saying there "must be a big holiday game not yet revealed", but I mean... it feels like Metroid and Pokemon are the big guns already?

Hi folks! What is the greatest or most tragic gaming related transaction you've had (either physical or in-game)? I convinced my friend to sell me his copy of Halo Wars for Xbox 360 for like $15 shortly after it came out. I played that game so much and loved it and he always kind of regretted selling it to me. Why couldn't I have just bought a different copy so we could both have it? Who knows.

Howdy Minnmax! Back when the GTA VI trailer dropped, I found myself shocked at how close it was to my real life. I grew up in the Florida Keys, and my first car was the same El Camino in the same color that Jason had in the trailer. It recreated a lot of the atmosphere and places I look back on fondly really accurately. My question is, has a game ever intersected weirdly close to your real life in a similar way? In other news I got my copy of Jacob Geller’s book last week and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Great writing and there’s some great art to go along with it.

Watching the Bonus Pod on hidden gems got me thinking about the breadth and depth of the game industry. My son is obsessed with a game called Poppy Playtime which has 100k reviews on steam, has sold 6 million copies and whose presence on YouTube is insane. There are several other FNAF likes that have smaller but still huge audiences. I understandably never hear them covered on any gaming site. Heya MinnMax, One of my favourite games of the last few years is Tren, a first party PlayStation exclusive released in 2023 that is part puzzle game, part platformer. It has an amazing art style and really sharp gameplay, and I can’t recommend it to anyone. Because the game is stuck inside of Media Molecule’s Dreams. It is a game I love dearly and just due to being stuck inside a PS4 game when it released in 2023, it feels genuinely difficult, if not impossible, to ask someone else to play it. What is your favourite game that you cannot in good faith recommend to anyone, due to how weirdly inaccessible it is?

Hello, Minnmax! Do you have anything in your life that you *air quotes* know for an absolute fact you made happen? A number of years ago during the Wii U/3DS era, I had to call and send something to Nintendo to be repaired, and they had some generic phone wait music. I mentioned to the rep that they should have Nintendo music playing instead. A short time later when I had to call them for something again, they added Nintendo music to the wait line. I find myself gravitating to GameFAQs for the simple text but the complete IGN picture guides can be great too. Oil Welsh at Polygon wrote a great piece titled “Mario Kart World wouldn’t be in the running for Game of the Year even if it was perfect.” The article argues that Mario Kart could never get GOTY because the voters typically go for action-adventure games and role-playing games. Does the panel agree? What games do yall feel are GOTY-level but don’t fit into those categories? I think Smash Ultimate and Street Fighter 6 are GOTY-level games that were passed up for others. Is Welcome Tour a cult hit in the making? It is the most insightful thing Nintendo has ever put out regarding their philosophy towards product design and problem solving. Hey MinnMax team! This is my first time writing in, and I just wanted to say The Alters is absolutely in the running for my Game of the Year, even with Expedition 33 in the mix. It’s so fresh and original. Here’s my question: If you could make an Alter of yourself, what skill would you want them to have that you don’t, and what moment in your life would you have to change to make it happen? For me, I’m a wholesale bakery salesperson now, but my path here was pretty wild. I started with a pastry degree, baked for years, then spent about ten years in retail sales before ending up where I am now, selling bread and baked goods to restaurants. Sometimes I wonder what if I’d gone to law school instead, since I really love language and the way words work, and the legal world always fascinated me. If I could make an Alter, I think I’d want one who actually became a lawyer—someone who works way too much, always buried in paperwork and legal stuff, probably missing out on the simple joys of baking but crushing it in the courtroom. But then again, who would I be if I hadn’t cooked? I love how Jan’s alters all have their own style and personality. Really looking forward to hearing what you all think!

I’m reaching out because I’d love any advice you might have for someone in my shoes. If you were starting fresh today with zero subscribers, how would you approach building a gaming YouTube channel in 2025? Remedy made it clear before launch they didn't want a FOMO-inducing game, do you think we're used to expect dozens of hours of content from games? Of course someone who paid 40 bucks should be entitled to criticizing the value they get, but I feel like this situation is a bit grey with the game being available on both Ps+ and GamePass. Since February I have had a new job working as an accent coach and translator for Ukrainian productions in Kyiv (vertically-shot dramas where the actors are speaking English, which is where my job comes in). I regularly work with actors and they are all awesome people. I let them know that there's this guy in the US named Ben Hanson who hates actors and they all started crying profusely. So this last weekend I was playing Nightreign with a couple friends. A few hours before I started playing I had some bad diarrhea. We were on the end boss of our run and my stomach started hurting so bad. Before I knew it I was fighting two battles, killing this boss and trying to not ruin my boxers. I lost both battles. After we died I told them I needed to go to the bathroom. I won’t go into details but a quick shower was needed. I came back and told them what I did for them. They said things like “that’s gross” and “you should have just gone.” Have you ever gone out of your way like this for someone and gotten 0 gratitude?
