Hey MinnMax crew, what’s the longest game title, in word count, you can think of off the top of your head?

Travis in Fargo

What video game have you learned the most about, or are most interested in, but have never played?

Victor Pham

What are your "boring" character picks for games with large rosters? Like using Mario in Mario Kart, Ryu in Street Fighter, etc.?

Neal McMahon

Hey CLCs Has there ever been a season of a series that turned out to be one of your favorite seasons of all time, but maybe the show as a series not so much? For me, season 2 of Halt and Catch Fire is peek tv viewing in my opinion— probably up there in one of my favorite seasons of TV ever, but by season 4, the last season, it was not even a quarter as good. Any examples of this from the crew?

Jacob Mazanowski

My kids started playing Smash Bros and they love playing as Fox. I grew up knowing him from Starfox but they have no idea he has his own game. What’s something you’re sad that your kids or a future generation won’t know what it’s from?

Travis in Fargo

If someone across the street just yelled “video game trailer!!!” at you, what’s the first video game trailer you’d think of? And - wouldn’t that be weird!!?

That's Mildly Raven

If The Alters were a 2D game, do you think you be as interested in it?

Badmonsterman

What’s your favorite ungulate?

Matthew Porter

Kind of a missed joke, more of a disappointment: during the DK Bananza direct, when the ability "Surf Surf" appeared on-screen, none of you said "Time for Surf Surf!" in the voice of Esquie. I was very upset.

Fancygraham

Since I’m a teacher, I’ve been asked a few times what I’m going to be up to this summer. I’ve been saying that I might be going to Minneapolis in August. As such, I’ve had to explain to a few coworkers and family members what “MinnMax” is. Sometimes when I’m describing you, the cohorts, it feels like I’m describing characters on a sitcom. Do you agree with that comparison? Why or why not?

Casey Lemke

Hey Crew! What aspect of the meetup are you looking forward to? Having the gang all in the same place? Meeting new people? Drinking some beers?😂

Emmett Watkins Jr.

Sometimes it hurts to think about just how much untapped value lies within the unplayed games in our backlog and libraries. If you had returned all of the money sownt in every game in one of these specific categories of games in your collection, which would make you the richest? 1) Every extra copy of a game you own multiple copies of (across consoles or physical & digital) that you haven't played 2) Every free game you've claimed on Epic/Steam/PlayStation Plus etc. that you haven't actually played 3) Every physical copy of a game you own that you haven't played 4) Every game you started but haven't finished yet

Hi y’all! Recently I was thinking about the break I took from listening to this here podcast for a bit. Couple months ago I came back and I’m so happy I did! Is there a piece of media (can be anything really) you took a break from and are really happy you were able to get back to?

Rick

Howdy yall, My friend was recently shocked that Nine Sols was in my top 10 because I rarely talked about it besides "it is really fun to play and the last boss rocks". What are the games you never talk about that are surprisingly high on your personal lists?

JTDenton

What's the angriest you've ever been at a fictional character? I recently read Never Let Me Go (a phenomenal book!), and there's a scene towards the end where I just wanted to reach into the page and smack one of the characters.

Brent Carroll

Hey cohorts! With the new addition of ‘Peak’ to the ‘friend-slop’ genre, I was curious where this trend began. Any thoughts on what kick started this trend of co-op(ish) 4 player friend games?

Seneca Kier

Hi minnmax crew! With getting to experience the dynamic music in Death Stranding 2, what game do you think would retroactively benefit from a dynamic music system? Personally, I would love to add it to Yakuza Like a Dragon for some customized Ijincho goon stomping that Ichiban can jam out to

Daniel May

Hi people, with Lies of P Overture out now, I'm reminded of how much lore about the world is in the base game that the DLC expands upon. How much do you experience a game's lore, ranging from just the details you find inside it to looking up explanations online?

Stevelution

Hey MinnMax. I’ve been playing some older games recently and it’s been fun/frustrating to experience some of the design choices of years gone by again. What is a design convention, popular in games today, that you would love to see done away with? To give an example, I’ve been surprised at how frustrating I’ve found the inability to fast forward through less important dialogue in older games, instead being made to sit through entire interactions that feel slow or uninteresting.

Michael Berry

I had a question for Haley. The city planners and engineers for the cities of Sonic's universe seem to design all of their roads just for Sonic. All the roller coaster loops and railways seem nearly impossible for all of the other citizens not named Sonic. An elderly woman going to the grocery store would have to launch off pinball bumpers at 100mph, risking a hip injury. How is this legal?

Gouda

How do you approach spoilers when reviewing a new game? Have you ever accidentally spoiled something, or had something spoiled?

Kelsey Sims

Hello MinnMax! What is the catchiest game soundtrack? Not your favorite soundtrack, just the one with the most songs that get stuck in your head whether you like it or not. My partner says it's Yoshi's Story which feels like both a gift and a curse.

Joe McMartin

15 years ago I figured out you can open a beer bottle with an N64 controller. I have no question just that I don't hear enough people talk about it.

gybones

What’s the last thing you apologized for?

Greg Lovell

Hi Cohorts! What percentage less fun are the things in your work that seem really fun from the outside? It can look like a dream job - playing games, talking with friends. But how much less fun is it in reality (or is it more fun!?)?

umryan

Hey Minnmax, what is the funniest hors d'oeuvre?

Caleb Ward

Many have discussed the difficulty of adapting games into other media, a conversation reignited by the recent Elden Ring adaptation announcement. What films or books would be hardest to adapt as a video game? Does certain source material lend itself toward or away from compelling gamification?

Sean O

Now that the Switch 2 is out did this generation have the worst releases on launch in gaming history?

Tom Brien

What was your favourite time playing a single-player game with another person in the room? I played Disco Elysium (with voice acting) with my wife, and it was great to decide on dialogue options together, and see them all back-fire on us.

Jonathon Flaman

Hey Minnmax I can play fighting games in ranked online, shooters , I'll even do an RTS. But seeing these insane Mario Kart shortcuts with wall bouncing and rail grinding I will never EVER play this game online. Is there any multiplayer games that scare you all away? Even if it's irrational?

Zae

What tv/movie director would you want to see work with what game director or producer? I’d love to see Nathan Fielder create something with Kojima. Super basic but I was thinking that during the Rehearsal bonus pod episode.

MyDogIsHip

Happy 300th (I think?) episode! To celebrate, a time traveling fan gives you the 300th installment of any video game franchise of your choice, and the ability to play it right now. What do you pick? Is it sims 300 to see how people live hundreds of years in the future? Civ 300 to see which world powers will rise and fall? Super smash bros 300 - everyone is here addition - to see every Nintendo character who will be released over the next few hundred years? Microsoft flight sim 300 to see a 1:1 model of the future world? Mario 300 to see how much further running and jumping can be perfected? Thanks y’all!

Hector

Hi MinnMax, with the release of all the great new games coming out, do you ever find yourself going back to old games? For example I started both Claire 33, Oblivion and some others but I was compelled to restart skyrim, start DayZ and Forza Horizon 4. Thanks

Victor Jesus Moreno

Hey MinnMax I recently started a PS3 collection and have been having fun picking up and playing these now retro titles (20 years old!). What PlayStation Triple games would y'all recommend?

Steven Nelson

What is the weirdest but acceptable additional ingredient or topping to a serving of Mac and Cheese? For example, crushing Flamin' Hot® Cheetos® and using them as a bread crumb topping.

Luketheman5

How many times have you watched your favourite movie?

Catpurrnicus

Hey crew, I recently subscribed to a Game Informer physical subscription. Hold for applause Cheers get louder Please, stop, I'm no hero. Just a reminder that subscriptions are open.

Harrison Holt

Hey folks, If one of your games consoles broke tomorrow, do you know where you would take it to be recycled? Have you ever properly recycled a gaming gadget in the past? According to Earth.org, only 25% of e waste is recycled! Cheers, Harrison

Juniper Cain

Uh-oh gang, you’ve entered a world in which Welcome Tour is a brand. Every console on release had its own 10 dollar, minigame filled, stamp collecting version, bursting at the seams with hardware trivia. In this spooky new reality, which got highest on the two tens of its year?

Catpurrnicus

Hey MinnMax, since all the consoles have backwards compatibility are launch titles less important? Are the upgrades of faster loading times and better frame rates a good enough consolation prize? The systems sell out no matter what, so do they really need a system seller game?

Preston Determan

Missed Laugh Opportunity: I am a little behind podcast wise so I just listened to the first episode back of the GI show. Marcus asked Kyle how he was going to balance the Switch 2 and Death Stranding review and Kyle responded perfectly with “Well, on my back”. I laughed so loud and nobody appeared to catch that joke. Just wanted to let Kyle know it was appreciated.

Jared Piers

Hey Minnmax, do any of you have a favourite font? I was looking at the logo for James Bond First Light the other day and I was thinking, that's a really nice font. Anything that stands out for any of you?

Vilis

Is there a restaurant, especially a national chain, which if a friend or family recommended meeting at you would, not only decline, but think less of them because they even recommended it? For me it's Applebee's, there is no function for this restaurant. It's a Ruby Tuesdays without a Salad Bar. It's a TGI Friday's without the Flair. By the way, I would also decline Ruby Tuesdays and TGI Fridays, but at least I could think "Well, at least they didn't suggest Applebee's..."

Chris Pelley

What's your favorite month? I'm already starting to dread fall & winter but summer hasn't even started.

Limp Bizquick

Hi MinnMax. Troubling news: in Mario Kart World, certain items show a big cartoony onomatopoeia (such as “BOOOM” and the like) when used. In the recent Donkey Kong Bananza Direct, it was shown that Pauline’s singing produces big stone cartoony onomatopoeias (in this case “BAM!” but also “AHA!”), meaning Nintendo will soon be 2/2 on first party titles on the Switch 2 (I do not count Welcome Tour unless it supports my theory. Don’t know. Haven’t played it) containing big cartoony onomatopoeias. What could this mean for the future of Nintendo?

Jump On Everything

Hey minnmax, I recently read a polygon article about how even if Mario kart world was an almost perfect game it likely wouldn't get nominated or win game of the year at award shows due to racing games very rarely being nominated. This has got me thinking about how the same can be said for many other genres too such as sports games. What are your thoughts on these kind of "genre biases" at award shows?

Donnie

Hey yall! What are your preferences for multiplayer games? Gameplay that requires yours and your friends’ attention full time or games that give you the space to goof around and chat?

Malcolm Holliday

Hey MinnMax, I turned 30 a few months ago and I'm currently having an existential crisis of being comfortable in my job and able to support my family but not having much passion. How can I pursue my dreams while living under the crushing weight of capitalism?

Jonathon Flaman

Hey Minnmax this question is for the ladies on the show this week. I have a 7 year old daughter and I'm just wondering what games to introduce her to. She loves watching me play things (her favorites are Monster Hunter and Tears of the Kingdom) but she seems either too nervous or doesn't like to fai,l so anytime I give her the controller she doesn't want to try for long. We have tried Princess Peach Showtime, Mario Kart, Infinity Nikki (she loves the dresses and fishing) but weirdly enough the only thing that has stuck is Street Fighter 6. They have a dynamic control scheme in the game so she can just mash buttons and some pretty good combos/supers come out and she just has a blast laughing her butt off playing that. What are some suggestions of games that I can introduce her to to help foster my favorite hobby with my favorite person?

Mason Cowell

Hello Cohorts! My question is, when do people have the right to be upset at the ending of something? Are consumers entitled to be upset at the ending of a story they didn't create? For example, Mass Effect and Game of Thrones.

Abigail Warner

My nephews 10th birthday is coming up soon and he has a switch 2. We like to play games together when I’m able to visit do you think we’d have more fun playing survival kids or split fiction? I’m only able to go over about twice a week. Do you think we’d end up getting confused or forgetting what we are doing in either game?

resnet

Hi MinnMax! What is a good multiplayer game for players of different generations to play together? I realize that most games are designed with a target audience in mind, which means that I tend to play games with friends who are very similar to me in age, taste, and background.

Sarah Joshua Katinsky

What indie-sized video game would you like to see adapted as a movie on an indie-sized film budget? I'm talking a few million dollars at most. Thanks!

twobears

*this is a good natured rant* Recently, Ben talked about packing and expressed shock that it could take anyone more than 6 minutes. I've been thinking about why this bothered me because it was really a pretty innocuous comment. I think I'm reacting to a broader trend that I'm gonna call "low maintenance elitism," where low maintenance people are generally viewed as more practical or sensible or whatever else. And those of us who choose to (or have to) do more to be comfortable for things are seen as frivolous or vain. Well no more! Im here to stand up for the so-called high maintenance and say that we shouldn't be ashamed for packing our skin care products, taking a long time to get ready, or spending a WHOLE EVENING packing. Our skin glows and we should be proud of it. High maintenance gang rise up. That is all, thank you for listening.

Mabroon

If you could transfer the need and benefits of sleep to another activity, what activity would you choose? All the same rules apply, so if you don't get enough hours of that activity you'll start feeling drowsy and tired. This also means it'll have to be something you'll be okay with doing for hours every night.

Nick deVries

Hi MinnMax crew, What would you all say is your strangest habit? I fully wash all my dishes and then put them in the dishwasher, despite knowing I am wasting my own time. Cheers to you all, thanks for the fun content!

Michael Archer

How often do you think about an ESRB rating? Does your initial impressions change based on what a game is rated? Has there ever been a recent game that you've decided not to play based on its ESRB rating? Or has there been a game in recent memory that surprised you with its ESRB rating? Thanks!

Kevin Donnelly

Hello crew! We live in a world of remakes, remasters, and reimaginings. But what if you could play a game DE-make? That being a modern game made in the style of a classic game (think 80s-90s graphical styling/capabilities). It would have redone graphics, music, even potentially making some aspects “worse”. What game would you choose to demake and in what style?

LawlWorthy

Thank you for tuning into CHOOSE. YOUR. CHAMPIONNNNNNN. The future of your gaming fate rests in the hands of one other person on this call! You must choose another person to decide which games you’ll get to play from here onward. Who do you trust to make those decisions and why?

Jeremy McPhail

Peak looks like a fun game, but even some side scrolling platformers give me the weak knees. I just can't seem to separate the games from a physical response. Are there any "phobias" that have you refusing to play certain types of games? Heights, spiders, and drowning are a no go for me.

Travis in Fargo

Do you have, or wish you had, a notable accessory? Like a pocket watch, monocle, or antique brooch?

Travis in Fargo

People say there can’t be a good Superman video game. But could there be a good Santa Claus game?

Jason Wojnar

You ever hear about those vertically filmed dramas for specific apps like Reel Shorts and Drama Box? Quibi was onto something apparently, they were just too early.

Sean

Hey Minnmax, Happy 300th episode! At what age do you think you were the best at video games?

Jonathan Dinh

Hey cohorts, I was talking to my friend about some neurodivergent tendencies I have such as volume in intervals of 5 on my car, getting rid of all notifications on my phone/the numbers on apps, rigid routines, etc. and got me thinking, does anyone have ones that are related to gaming only? Do you have to sort inventory a certain way if the game allows it or you have to clear all the “new” icons in the menu/codex?

John Scovic

With Death Stranding 2 releasing this week with another original soundtrack full of licensed music- what is your favorite song with vocals ever in a game? For my money Death Stranding by CHVRCHES, I'm Going That Way from Kentucky Route Zero, and The Spine from Transistor would have to be top of the list.

JG

Hey CLCs, is it just me or does the Minus 61 song that plays during the opening of DS2 sound like the Gongaga Rebirth theme by the end?

Michael Lunt

Does Donkey Kong have one eye hole but two eyeballs rubbing against each other, or is it a singular horrific figure eight eyeball?

Graham Jones

I have heard some cohorts say they are playing a game for work. That has me thinking... Do all cohorts have that distinction between games for fun and for work? How do those levels change those experiences?

McGreevy

Happy episode 300 cohorts! What is something you think you have done exactly 300 times in your life?

Unsupreme

Hiya Minnmax, congrats on episode Sparta. The other night I had a dream I was playing a AAA first person Scooby Doo game for PS5, kinda like the Indiana Jones one. It was pretty cool. Doo you have any games you dreamt about that you wish existed in real life?

Ari

Congratulations Pew Pew Bang on all your success. What lessons have you learned on first this run of the podcast? Hopes/ dreams/ special guests for the future?

Eric Reitz

Howdy Ben and the CLC's, first just wanted to say, I really enjoy the deepest dive even when I don't play the game right at launch. It makes visiting games a more fun experience as if I was playing during launch, so thanks! My question, what would be your number one thing you'd love to do a deepest dive on that you know would never happen?

Frostphorus

How do you think game studios can reboot franchise that arnt technically dead but have deviated from their formula for so long young people arnt familiar with the original concept anymore? Specifically im thinking about elder scrolls 6 young people may only know elder scrolls as an MMO, failed card game, and failed mobile game franchise. (Sorry not sorry) Or future Zelda games trying to go back to linear dungeons when modern youths only know open world zelda.

LlorchDurden

Nobody talking about Rematch? I know it's football but it's GOOD and I think it does a lot of things right! There's 70K (on Steam) people playing at the time of typing. Some stuff it does pretty well - Throws away FIFA/PES control scheme and whole pace, but it works! - The games feel so much like playing football in real time. - There're mechanics and design details that clearly make team play the way you want to play. Hanson won't read me unless I say something nice about the Discord so FYI , it took me 5 mins to kick off a game with someone from the looking for a group channel

Luis

The commercial for Death Stranding 2 grabbed my attention with the puppet they showed known as Dollman. Do you think his unusual stop-motion animation and role in the game hint at deeper themes or narrative twists, or is it more about Kojima adding his signature surreal style and comic relief?

Bryan Tylec

Hey MinnMax crew, happy 300! Do men just like to complain about the Joy Con so much because it gives them a ready made excuse to brag about how massive and powerful their domineering, manly hands are?

pork bun powered

Hi MinnMax, To celebrate the Pew Pew Bang Finale (go listen to that and come back, we can wait), I have to ask "what's stopping you from playing TTRPGs regularly?" As a follow-up, "what's stopping you from becoming a DM for a group?"

Travis in Fargo

What appetizer X dessert mashup would create the most curiously craveable culinary concoction?

RickyWinterborn

What are your three desert island games that don't connect to the internet?

Felix davin

Hello ciel seas. If there existed a non-boning-oriented "gamers meeting app" to meet fellow gamers who share similar taste in games... What would the first line of your profile say ? And what would be your profile picture ? Have a nice day !

BigRed

Hi Cohorts! I have just finished my first play through of The Last of Us Part II and loved listening to The Deepest Dive while I played. I enjoyed it so much I decided to base my next game on the Deepest Dive so I could continue my own little game club and have just started Alan Wake 2! If each of the cohorts could pick one game to do a deepest dive on, what would they pick? Thanks!

mantaguy

Hey MinnMaxers! I was wondering if you had plans to cover Date Everything in the near future. It's a dating sim where you go around your house and date human versions of household objects. I think it would be interesting to talk about because it was developed by a handful of Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem voice actors that decided to come together and make a game, and it has possibly the murderers row of voice talent to end all murderers rows. Think of any remotely big name video game VA; they more likely than not voice a character in this game.

Tokyo Game Life

Including PSP and Vita, what’s the best day one PlayStation launch game?

Chris Fantry

Hi MinnMaximos. If you had to 1 v 1 the devil in a game for your soul which game would you choose?

Tess

Hey MinnMax! What's the best prize you ever won? When I was a kid, I won a portable DVD player from a dance competition at a Bat Mitzvah.

Chris Fantry

Hey parasocial friends! I just watched a movie called The Blackening. I knew nothing about it before I watched other than it looked like a comedy, and I loved it. What was the last the piece of media you enjoyed without doing any research on?

alex L

Hi!! With the inevitable ubiquity of AI chat bots that can interact with the internet, plus the current popularity of things like iPads, I’ve been envisioning a future where mouse and keyboards are less and less used, where interacting with a computer via typing is considered antiquated or esoteric. Do you think this will happen? And if so, will M+K use dwindle amongst PC Gamers as well? Are the Steam Deck and Switch 2 early signs of PC gaming mice successors?

Waves

Hello hello! In honor of the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, what is the best game with a location-based subtitle? It could just be “the Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim”, but my vote goes to Batman: Arkham City! Cheers!

Christian Jimenez

Hello, inspired by the latest hootenanny. If you could get rid of one grooming necessity which one would it be? Assume it won't every be needed to be done again. Cutting your nails Cutting your hair Shaving Brushing your teeth Washing your face etc.

JorSneezy

What is the perfect amount of people to play UNO?

StudioTJ

With a new Hideo Kojima game coming out, the Kojima is a Genius narrative is in full swing again. "How can this one man make this whole game alone with his bare hands." But in all sincerity, what is the best way to highlight more people from Kojima Productions and make people realize that it takes a lot of people to build a game like DS2. Since the game is staying on the Decima engine, Guerrilla Games is involved on the tech side. Not to forget the various contractors.

Sam Hookom

I just watched Skillup’s making of Clair Obscur documentary, and it’s fantastic. It got me thinking, what game would you want to see a making of doc or which creator would you want to see dive into the documentary format?

FinalSin

Hey all, so we all knew that creepy old person, that played video games when we were young. So at what what point did you realize, you are now that person??

SuperThisWay

Hey cohorts! Recently Kojima talked about disliking how much praise he got for Death Stranding 2 and doesn’t want to make games that appeal to everyone. At first I agreed, but the more I think about it, the more I do feel like his style and influence has become more or less mainstream. People who grew up on Metal Gear are making stuff now. Do yall feel that way about his stuff or is there an essence of Kojima that doesn’t appeal to the masses (yet)?

Jeremy Banks

Hey MinnMaxers - Kyle recently posted on BlueSky the new delightfully weird single from prog metal band Between the Buried and Me, a band from a more niche genre I think more people should check out. What's a relatively recent & maybe niche music release that each of the crew likes that they would recommend all of us MinnMax listeners out here to give a try to?

Jeorin

Hey MinnMax crew, if you suddenly became the wealthiest person in the world, how would use your money for the betterment of everyone? I personally would build/buy housing and make it affordable as well as run a non-profit restaurant.

Josh Lamm

What real life thing are you grateful games don't usually include? For example, I'm grateful games don't have you pee and poop regularly. Could you imagine Kratos crouching behind a bush to pinch off a couple logs?

Emily Webb

What is the best/preferred way to give feedback on Pew Pew Bang's first season? My spouse and I loved the first run and are already looking forward to the second! For the non Pew Pew Bang Gang members: what was your favorite moment of Pew Pew Bang so far? For us it was probably the make-up challenge--everyone was so creative and committed!

Adam

Deepest Dives are always generally positive, just by nature of people only willing to commit to something they already know they'll like. Are there any Deepest Dives you want to do covering something that's known to be bad, to discuss what went wrong or what could have been? Or do Deepest Dives need to be positive to be any fun?

AnAttackCorgi

What game character would you want to be on the cover of Vanity Fair? What kind of shoot would come out of it?

Jake

Yerrr MinnMax, On an old episode of GI's Replay, Kyle shared the hilarious backstory behind his disdain for Scooby-Doo. I'm curious if anyone else on the team has a strong dislike for a beloved franchise. Peace, Jake

Wajora

There is no doubt that Kojima did a great curating music for DS2 again, but how do you think about a soundtrack with lots of licensed songs when doing stuff like the end of year discussions or TGA votes? Does the "Best Videogame Music of the Year" have to be original/sound videogamey for you?

Jonathan Fenn

Hey gang - what's the greatest game that's never been mentioned on the MinnMax show?

landsealion

What mundane thing do you wish more games let you do?

SunniDee22

Deltarune chapter 3&4 thoughts? I loved it and am interested in seeing chapter 5 next year. Also the music is fantastic.

Axel Jrpg

A few episodes ago you guys talked about the idea of hosting a SGF type of event. Which had me thinking, if given a keighley-level budget, what type of event would MinnMax as a whole make? Would you rent out the YouTube theatre for a doc lighting, make your own indie showcase, or award show? Personally I think you guys running a whole event not just hosting would be awesome

Xavier Porraz

Sometimes I'll buy a game and be too afraid to play it right away, either because I know I'll not want to stop or I'm afraid I won't like it as much as I thought. What, if anything, most intimidates you when you start a new game?
