Hi MinnMax. My son and I recently got to tour our first video game studio; a friendly site known for their unique work model, never making a 3rd game in a series, and their boat based president. We got to see many amazing things like hardware prototypes, a 20 ft snack bar, and a beautiful view of the surrounding city. I was especially happy to see all the art all over the offices though. Most of it was concept art, but also there seemed to be some amateur art that looked more like love letters to their subjects. The whole place was amazing. What are some of your favorite details or specific moments from studios you have been to?

Maybe it’s not the most scientific metric, but of all MinnMax’s Two Tens since its founding, no game released past the Fall Equinox has cracked the #1 spot.

Hey Minnmax! I recently got into the third closed playtest of Airframe Ultra, which is a hoverbike racing/combat game developed by the people who made Rain World. I had so much fun with the playtest that now I'm genuinely sad I can't play more for the time being. Has a preview or beta in recent memory left you feeling this way? Does grief counseling work?

In the ridiculous slew of half baked baseball analogies in a recent New Show Plus episode I came up with a question based around a baseball analogy of my own. Can you name a game franchise that has hit a Grand Slam? That is, three games in a row that were singles, followed by a HOME RUN. I honestly can't come up with an example. I was very happy to see a new video in the Better Quest series this week as I've dedicated a lot of this summer to overcoming bad habits and picking up good ones. My question is this! How do you balance work, self improvement, and social/family obligations, while still finding time to play video games?! Two of my favorite games in the past 5 years (Mario Kart World and Death Stranding 2) dropped this summer, and I've found it very hard to find space for them while picking up new, healthy hobbies like running and playing guitar. I don't even have kids! How do you find the time to play through all the games you do while living a balanced life?

Happy for the return of Better Quest. One goal I recall Kyle Bosman taking on a betterquest goal of a different name years ago when he wanted to get arms like Cloud Strife. Hi Minnmax crew. Is game length a spoiler? Last week when you guys talked about Shadow Labyrinth. Jacob said it was about 30 hours. The other cohorts got scared from playing more of the game after hearing the length. Would games be better if you don't know how long to beat it? Would more cohorts play a Xenoblade or Persona. If they didn’t know it’s over 100 hours to beat?

On the subject of BetterQuest, why are so many exercise games subpar? I have had a consistent run on Hatsune Miku Fitness Boxing, because I like the character and music, but the unlockables kinda dried up fast. If something like this existed that was an RPG with Idle Clicker levels of exponential growth as you kept playing, I know I at least would keep up with workouts more. Anyone in the crew know any exercise games that are as good on the GAME part as they are on the Exercise?

For me one that resounds especially strongly was when I was like pre-teen and playing for the first time the original Diablo - early on, me and a friend playing on his PC late at night had to confront the nightmare fuel (long b4 we were familiar with the term lol) that was… The Butcher *shudders* I can sometimes still hear him in my dreams “Fresh Meat, Fresh Meat…” That ambience and hellish picture Blizzard painted… oof. 👏👏 #chefskiss

During the direct they kept talking about how much better it performs than the original Switch, but all I could think was “ok but what does Mortal Kombat 1 look like?”. That game was easily one of the worst looking games on the Switch so showing any improvement would be an easy win right!?? Not a question, but I'm listening to the episode where Jacob's Get a Load of This is about the Mummy trailer uploaded without the correct audio. Just wanted to shout out my friend, Ryan, who was the one working on editing movie trailers for Universal at the time who uploaded that clip. He was absolutely mortified and almost too embarrassed to fess up to me that he was responsible. Love you, Ryan!

Who do you think is the most under appreciated character in video games? My pick is definitely Pixy from Ace Combat Zero. It’s a niche game about fighter pilots which is a big part of why I think he’s so overlooked but he’s probably my favorite all time character. (SPOILER ALERT) He starts off as your wingman and is one of the best NPC partners from any video game while he watches your back. But even better, later on in the story he defects to the enemy country and becomes the final boss in the story. Plus he is voiced/played by an actual person who plays him not only over voice but through live-action videos and the actor who plays him is *VERY* good. Stellar performance, stellar acting.
