Hey MM, I was at Disney World recently and looked at the map in the Disney World app looking for an exit. After realizing that I was halfway across the park from my target destination, the thought came through my head, “I’ll just fast travel”. My question is: do I play too many video games? Do you ever play something so much that it bleeds into your life? Thanks!

Travis in Fargo

When was your last sleepover with friends? Do you still do that kind of thing in these, your twilight years?

That's Mildly Raven

On Brendon Bigley's podcast Wavelengths, he brought up how he had recently been on the MinnMax show. This really stood out to me, because in all my years of listening to way too many gaming podcasts, I don't think I've ever heard someone say "hey, I was a guest on this other podcast, go listen to it." No one ever mentions it on their own shows! What things do you wish people in games media would do but for some reason they don't?

Neal McMahon

Hey all, Do we need to see more (working) mirrors in games? I remember the first time I saw a dynamic mirror in Duke Nukem back in the 90s and thought it was so cool. We see it a bit more in games today but not nearly enough in my opinion. Is this still a technical limitation of some kind? What are your favorite mirrors in games?

Channing Potatum

Hi crew - please predict Jacob’s ability to get Silksong into the upper 10 at the end of the year.

Jacob Mazanowski

What’s your favorite Fall activity before spooky season starts? Or is fall and spooky season just one and the same for you?

RickyWinterborn

Is an Indy game developed by 2 people 50% less impressive than a game developed by 1 person? I feel like everyone loves a one developer game but 2 developers and the praise falls off a cliff.

Victor Pham

Are cats the perfect predators?

Arturo Perez

hi minnmax! I recently sprained my thumb playing FF City of The Wolves and I feek so silly😂, have you ever had a "gamer" injury? Have a nice day!

Boondock-Bandit

Hey everybody, Whom amongst the MinnMax cohorts and guests has your favorite podcast setup? (Camera angle, settings, background, etc.) For some reason Dan Ryckert’s set-up on the Metal Gear Solid Delta Deepest Dive is very aesthetically pleasing to me, all things considered. Please discuss, thank you!

Mike Lynch

What's the biggest lie an NPC has ever told you? I.e. you did terribly in a mission and an NPC says "Great job back there! You're a real pro!"

Christian Fagre

Hey minnmax, Suppose the entire world was entered in competition to drink a liter of liquid the fastest. You get to pick what the drink is. Considering global demographics, what liquid would you pick to maximize your chances of winning? For example, I would pick heavy cream because of my extreme lactose tolerance.

Adam Castellanos

With Jacob and Kelsey being nonfiction book authors I was wondering if any of yall have ever thought of writing fiction? If you were to write a fiction book what might they be about. Thank you.

Kelsey Sims

Hello minni maxers! I recently played through Ghost of Tsushima for the first time in anticipation for Yotei coming out, and I think it may be one of my favourite games I've ever played. I can't wait to see what Yotei has in store! What's a game that you played well past its release date that left an impact on you?

Jerry Young

Minnmax I need m a hype check here! I feel like I’m shouting as loud as I can about the upcoming release of dispatch in October snd none of my friends have even heard of it. Played the demo and it was amazing. Super hero game written by telltale alum, great voice cast and art style, please tell me I’m not alone in being hyped about this game.

SuperThisWay

Hey cool cats! What’s your favorite game you played because of a recommendation from your fellow MinnMax cohorts? I also wanna say thank you y’all for so many games recs!

Stay At Home Gamer

Hey! So I recently started taking notes when I game. Started with Expedition 33. I’m a bit flustered on what notes I should be taking. Have any note taking suggestions?

ThomperPippin

Hello MinnMax! My question is: What are my favourite podcasters' favourite podcasts? (That's you guys, you are my favourite podcasters, it's not meant as a dig I swear)

Seneca Kier

Hey gang, what non-video game activity/task/chore/work did you do this week that made you more appreciative to get the time to sit down and game? Or even made you enjoy the game more? For me, it was getting a flat tire about 30 minutes outside of Albert Lea (Minnesota heads get it) on a 4 hour drive from Sioux Falls. Suddenly, getting to go home and enjoy some Fields of Mistria felt much more meaningful

RynaGoGo

Howdy MinnMax! Whats the most disrespectful thing you’ve done to someone in gaming? I 360 no scoped my buddy Scott in Halo 3 back in the day. It was the final kill in a 1v1 death match to determine the champion of gaming. His candy ass is still mad about it. Hi Scott!

AnAttackCorgi

One sunny day, a gleaming alien spaceship lands gracefully to the shock and awe of the world. Aliens descend an extended ramp and gather at the base of the ship. Once news crews arrive, the alien leader walks forward and exclaims “Take us to your leaders…OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY!” You don’t know if this is a peaceful request or a hostile command. The UN reaches out to MinnMax for recommendations. Who do we send?

Elizabeth Fort

Hey gang What is the sound of your alarm in the morning! Mine is the queen’s blood theme from ff 7 rebirth it is a delightful way to start my morning

Seth

Haley - Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a Metroidvania. Prove me wrong. Furthermore, metroidvanias are a great opportunity to get out the ol' pad and pen. In conclusion, you should like metroidvanias.

Parker Aden

I have been catching up on Bonus Pod in the tractor while farming and request to hear another Haley diary entry. Any chance it triggers a teenage memory for Ben or Leo in the process?!

Loud EEL

Thanos Snap time; would you rather delete all AAA games from existence or all indie games?

Sleeksaber

Hi Minnmax, I recently saw that Blooper Team made a post congrulating Techland on the release of Dying Light: The Beast. Unlike when Bethesda congratulated Sandfall for E33, or when Sandfall congratulated Team Cherry for Silksong with their own custom art, Blooper’s post just photoshopped Kyle Crane in front of The Traveler from Cronos. It didn’t feel as authentic as those other examples. Do you think this could be a more common marketing approach where a less successful game tries to gain attention by associating itself with a bigger release through congratulatory posts?

Palo

Hey all, when do you decide to treat yourself to something nice, and what does that end up looking like?

BEEFCAKE

Has anyone ever been insulted by the phrase "Smell ya later"?

Travis in Fargo

What villain has the best hideout, secret lair, or otherwise evil base of operations?

Limp Bizquick

Howdy Minnesota Maximum 👋 What’s an accessory you wish you could pull off?

Swansonge

What do you think is the most underutilized instrument in video game music? Playing Silksong has made me wish that more video games utilized harps.

resnet

Hi MinnMax! Once the game industry has satiated their appetite for making walking bad and clunky to control in video games, what basic mechanic do you all think they'll move onto next? Will turning the camera now be met with resistance as the character refuses to look a certain direction? Where will this stop?

MarriottPlayer

When you bend down, do you bend your knees or do you bend your back? I bend my knees whenever possible but I worry too many people only bend their back.

Chris Pelley

Does a three person podcast feel different than four person? Do you feel like you have to expand/contract your roles like how a national broadcast of a baseball game is different than a local broadcast? Or does it completely not matter?

Nathan

Last week’s episode with Brendon Bigley was excellent and my first exposure to Brendon and Into The Aether. For those at MinnMax who have made guest appearance(s) on other podcasts, video game related or not, which was most memorable for you and what did you talk about? Plug the episode!

Phelix Diaz

I recently saw a Mega Man X speed-run concert by Bit Brigade. The band played the soundtrack and a guy played the whole game front and center on stage. Very surreal experience to see a band restart a song because the player failed a stage or see the player sit there as the credits rolled while the band kept playing. Megan Man X being my #1 childhood game, it was an amazing show. The band leader at one time described the speed runner as another musician. Do you think a non-music game can be a music instrument in this scenario?

Juniper Cain

Queen lost their frontman, Led Zeppelin lost their drummer, The Beatles lost their co-vocalist. They were all forever changed, never again reaching the same heights, their glory days behind them. Minnmax may only temporarily be reduced down to three, but after this, will things ever be the same again?

Catpurrnicus

At what point do you feel its okay to start razzing friends/acquaintances? Do you just jump in immediately even if you don't know them that well? On a side note, was Janet able to get out of the well she recorded the cohort hootnanny in?

mapleviolet

I watched Jacob’s video on late title drops in games that contain their own sequels, and thought of a 2025 game with a great late title drop that arguably contains its own sequel. I know Jacob will probably never play this game but I also don’t want to spoil this moment in case he does. Have any of you ever had a situation like this?

pork bun powered

Hi MinnMax! I enjoyed listening to the Bonus Pod with Haley's Michael this week. I remember Michael from your podcast, Game and Make Up, where you "force" each other to play certain video games. My question for the group is, what's a game that you've convinced a partner or a friend to try (that they otherwise would not have played)? Did they love it or hate it? Has anyone convinced you to try something you wouldn't have played otherwise?

Cath

Hockey season is back! Can you tell me why there is no good hockey games? I can’t stand NHL2025 ect…

Neal McMahon

What’s the strangest place you have been recognized?

Catpurrnicus

I was thinking exercise cycles would be more enjoyable if I could travel through them in VR. What worlds would you like to exercycle through? You may not be able to simply walk to Mordor, but you could bike there.

Hugo Sinclair

Hello minnmax! I feel like most of this year there wasn't a ton of stuff coming along that I was that interested in and now suddenly I want to play Hades 2, Ghost of Yotei, Baby Steps, Mafia The Old Country, Borderlands 4 and more all at once. Despite this, I've always stuck to committing fully to one game at a time and never playing multiple at once and I don't think I'll change that. Obviously in your line of work playing multiple things at once is essential, was that something you had to get used to? Do you ever worry it affects your ability to fully engage with games? Do I just need to get over it and embrace chaos???

David Dubs

Hey Gang! I had to take a break playing Silksong because I was smashing the buttons so hard that I messed up my thumb. Does anyone else have their own gaming related injuries? I've tried pressing lighter, but I just can't. Bilewater is just too stressful.

Badmonsterman

Hey y’all what is you’re favorite day of the week? Mine is Saturday probably cause of nostalgia but also I just like how it sounds!

Random Oil Man

If you could remove any year of games from history, which year would you pick?

Daniel Doran

Hey, have y’all picked up any Jacob-isms you catch yourself saying? because I catch myself saying “or whatever” all the time…are there any “-isms” you’ve picked up from other co horts?

Vilis

Did anyone else get a kick out of Kojima launching the trailer for his new Horror game, the title and some of the early vibes of which are meant to illicit PT, at almost the exact time Silent Hill f was available to play? I thought it was a great move, but are there any other game industry grudges which have played out like that in the past?

Dylan Caudill

There was a game on the Xbox 360 indie marketplace called Cursed Loot. I absolutely loved that game. It was a run based dungeon crawler that had auto battling, random events, and was essentially a precursor to my love of Roguelikes. I have checked, and I don't believe there is any way to play this game today unless you have an Xbox 360 with it already installed. Does the crew have any "lost" games like this that they wish they could play again?

Infinite

Hey gang! What would you say is the greatest game of all time that you’ve never played? Personally for me, i haven’t played a Zelda game since Ocarina, which I never beat. Thanks for everything!

whitemex

What's an invention you think you can actually replicate if you were to be transported back in time , like medieval times?

Cody A

Hey minnmax We started seeing Halloween decorations around our neighborhood and my 3 and 5 year old got in a heated debate on weather ghosts and skeleton were dead or not. What are your takes? Both we assume came from the death if another thing but are they themselves 'dead' or just a new alive thing?

Travis in Fargo

I got a job! I’ve been a full time stay at home parent the past few years, but now in addition to that, I’m working part time for my favorite local coffee company. It’s flexible, I work with a good buddy of mine, and the best perk is: free coffee! My questions are: how do you like working with friends, and what’s the best perk of your job?

Travis in Fargo

What video game are you looking forward to playing this spooky season? Bonus points if you’ve never played it before (maximum of 3 points may be awarded at Leo’s discretion, which you have to agree, is pretty generous (in this economy)).

SlyCut

Hello all, I don't think I can handle scary games like Kojima's OD Knock the way they should be played; solo, in the dark, with headphones on. But I really want to play them that way. Any tips for getting through a scary game the way they should be played?

McGreevy

Watched anything good lately?

OneArmedWolf

I don’t love Silksong now as a boring adult but I couldn’t help but think about the effect this game would have had on me as a kid (art, music, overall vibe) and possibly my taste overall. It got me thinking that we don’t really get to choose what shapes our taste - it sort of happens to us. My question is: what if you could choose? If you had the very specific ability to go back in time and make sure your younger self had to experience ONE specific piece of art - games, tv, film, whatever - that you ‘missed out on’, what would it be? And what sort of impact (if any) do you think it would have had on your taste overall?

Tom Brien

Do you think Konami could release a new Metal Gear game with 100% new characters? And then everybody loves it? Is this possible?

L Stockler

Hey! I know this one goes mostly for Hayley, but I'd love if everyone chipped in. In the other week, on bonuspod, Hayley gifted us with more comments and not legal advice regarding Nintendo's patent strategy. I'm also a lawyer, but I've only dipped my feet into IP law and I'm not even in a common law country, however some of the things you said got me thinking... How does all this shenanigans from Nintendo hold internationally? Cause I seriously doubt some of this patents would be upheld in Europe or wherever. Also, regarding the legal costs of facing Nintendo, do you guys think it is possible that medium and small sized studios could band up together and set a fund or something in order to fight Nintendo over this?

Luis Pérez

Just like Ben and Janet never finished Bayonetta Origins, what's that one title you left right at the finish line? Do you regret doing so? (Bonus points for Ben if he names another game that suffered the same fate)

Rikimaru

Hey MinnMax! I just played through Silent Hill 2 Remake and noticed a detail that when James gets close to certain objects in the world, he subtly turns his head. It helped me find a note I would have otherwise missed. It wasn't too obvious or anything and just felt like something naturally caught his eye. What is a small detail in a game that you appreciated recently?

Travis in Fargo

What genre of video game is real life? It’s got platforming, pay to play elements, ability/gear gating…

Joshua H.

After listening to pew pew bang! I thought of how every time I think of food being cooked in a game I think of Zelda BOTW/TOTK sound. Which sound do you hear first for the random sounds of video games? Maybe it’s drinking a potion or pulling up the menu screen sound. Thanks and hope you’re all having a great day!

Lilly S

It seems no one is talking about the recent update to Gamepass (or Gamepass PC), where all downloaded games on Steam and Epic now visibly listed in the Xbox app. Any Cohorts see anything weird from this merger?

Travis in Fargo

What’s your sock situation? My dad just bought me several pairs of socks with lifetime warranties that you only need to wash once a month, apparently.

Nick deVries

Hey MinnMax, What specific period of your life do you have the best gaming memories? I’ll always remember being in middle school and not having a summer job yet. My twin brother and I put hundreds of hours each into Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire which was leading up to a linked-battle at the end of summer. I don’t even remember who won but the memory of that summer is still one of my favorites. Thanks, love the show!

Sam Hookom

When considering discussing spoilers, people often use something along the lines of “it’s been out long enough” when deciding if it’s ok to spoil something in a public forum like a social media post or podcast. In your opinion, how long should a game, movie, book etc. be out before it loses spoiler protections?

FinalSin

Hey all, would you say you put in more hours now, or more when you had a normal 9 to 5 job? Cause let's face it, lots of people think oh podcast, what's that, 2hrs worth of work out of the week,Guess that's cause no one sees the turd you polish into a diamond for us to hear each week! Think we need a video of what a podcart week is really like.

mapleviolet

do you think it is possible the rapture did actually happen, it’s just that god decided none of us deserved to heaven?

Mike Fab

Hi CLCs. I would normally be pretty excited about the upcoming Arc Raiders, I like a good extraction shooter well enough, and some in my gaming group like them too, and have mentioned interest in Arc Raiders. But, while watching trailers and gameplay, I’ve noticed there are a lot of flying enemies, and there are giant spiders. I don’t like fighting flying enemies, and I am terrified of giant insects/arachnids, so Arc Raiders will probably be a pass for me. Have you ever had a very specific problem with a game you would otherwise like or is very popular? Thanks, love the show!

Fancygraham

How often do you use back buttons? I don’t like the feel of clicking the sticks on steam deck, but I’m fine with mapping them to L4 and R4. Also on the switch 2 pro controller, I finally used GL and GR with Silksong. GL is mapped to down on the d-pad and GR is mapped to Y. That way I have another reliable option to do a downward strike.

Bob Buel

What’s the newest game you’d consider “old”?

Jimmy Fabrigoli

Hey all! In last week's Borderlands discussion, a few cohorts mentioned turning the dialogue volume all the way down to make the game more bearable. As a longtime Borderlands fan, I was reminded that many hardcore fans found a way to remove all the dialogue in Borderlands 3 by just deleting a specific set of files in the game's directory on PC, resulting in all story sequences automatically advancing and character models teleporting around to where they're supposed to end up by the end of the cutscene. I also bounced off of BL3 initially, but after doing the dialogue removal "mod" I ended up like 600 hours deep into it and it became my new favorite in the series at that time. The question I'd like to pose is: is there a piece of media you consider one of your favorite things ever despite having experienced it in an objectively incorrect way, or specifically because you removed something completely fundamental from it?

Oliver Watts

What theme at a local trivia night do you think you would win easily? Bonus points if it isn’t video game related.

Nathan Ryer

Hey MinnMax! When are they going to make WNBA Jam?!? I want to play as Napheesa Collier and the Stud Buds and hear the iconic She’s on fire! A Genesis version on cart would be amazing.

Duderado

If you were an enemy in a RPG what would be your rare drop upon death?

FelixA

Any thoughts on Blippo+? That ;pmg awaoted Playdate exclusive? Oh wait, there are too many games!

Brennan Pendrake

I've been playing Little Goody Two Shoes, and I'm in love with the unique aesthetics. It uses a hand-painted Bavarian folk art style for the UI, 90's anime for the cutscenes, and gorgeous pixel art for most of the gameplay. What are some other games that mashup contrasting art styles in a cool way?

Wajora

Hey y'all! Do you have a favourite game trailer of all time, one you sometimes revisit even after the game has been out already? For me it's a toss-up between the BotW trailer from the Switch presentation and the Death Stranding release date trailer (the one with the Apocalyptica song) which I probably rewatch like once a year

Kevin Kuper

Hello MinnMaxers! I've been really enjoying my time with silk song but am feeling I got my fill and want to start Hades II this week. How do you usually leave a game you dont finish? Intentions to go back but get distracted, or put it down knowing you won't come back?

LlorchDurden

I already posted on Discord but posting here hoping the crew and Leo can comment on this. Looking at steam.db info for skate https://steamdb.info/app/3354750/charts/ sitting on mixed reviews, but hitting 100K players everyday. People are playing, hating and coming back tomorrow. To me this looks like Monster Hunter with the community playing while complaining about the state of the game. Very tough love. For comparison, REMATCH community left after a very solid start https://steamdb.info/app/2138720/charts/

Jason Wojnar

I have about 80 hours in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4. 80 percent of that time has been trying to beat my high scores in 2-minute runs. Are you still motivated to play games by chasing high scores?

Luca Alberti

Hello MM crew, have you ever had pizza with fish as a topping?

Andreas Jensen

What is the best piece of media you never hear anyone talk about? Alternatively have anyone of you heard of or watched the show Rectify? I don't think I have ever heard anyone talk about it ever... In spite of it being extremely good.. And it's 4th and final season is still sitting at a 99 on Metacritic, which is higher than every other show on Metacritic, at least when you check their "Best TV Shows of all Time" list ( https://www.metacritic.com/browse/tv/?releaseYearMin=1910&releaseYearMax=2025&page=1 ) which I guess only looks at season 1 of shows, as it doesn't include Rectify.

Duderado

What's the scariest door in a video game?

Geebeesee

Hey MM, I was listening to a podcast over lunch at my local mall when one of the hosts mentioned that her mom had been a model in a commercial for that very mall back in the ’80s. Have you ever been enjoying a piece of media and been surprised by a local connection?

Josh Lamm

Speaking of Ghost of Yotei... Any y'all believe in ghosts? Storieeees!

Luis

If your everyday life suddenly operated under Baby Steps-style physics, what would stand out in your day as being the most difficult or fun to try and accomplish?

Michael Dorle

Seeing as Baby Steps strips down the gameplay to just manually controlling each of of the legs of your character separately, what is the one aspect of a game that you haven’t been able to control manually before that you would like to?

Hank

What does everyone think the secret unlock for maxing out the Kojima credit card is?

Emmett Watkins Jr.

You know how in Edge of Tomorrow Tom Cruise wakes up at the same exact point in time every time he dies? Think of that as a permanent checkpoint you've respawn at until the end of time. At what point of time would each of you set your checkpoint? At birth? At adulthood? On a specific historic day? Interested to see what yall pick. For me I'd pick birth just to be basic, but I think it'd give the best opportunity to Minnmax life into the best it could possibly be.

Sky Fellowship

Have you ever beaten a video game whllst beating a video game? Wind Waker and AA Link To The Past GBA dropped at very similar times and without changing topic, personally not a fan of Wind Waker and part of that is because the sailing sections are so long and drawn out, that I actually started and finished ALTTP in full before even finishing Wind Waker. Everytime a long sailing section hit, would simply set course, set sail and then pick up the GBA. Everytime I reached my destination would then put Zelda into sleep mode (One of the few GBA games to have this feature) and resume WW. So was just wondering, in todays age of games that kinda run themselves at points like Loop Hero and Satisfactory, has anyone managed to beat a video game whilst beating a video game?

Ewie

This is a question I have wondered about ever since I have played Prince of Persia The Sands of Time: If you have one opportunity to rewind time to a specific point in time, while keeping your memories and knowledge, how far in time would you go?

Axeloy

With games like Silksong and Hades 2 making waves right now, I want to ask: What is your favorite game sequel format? Do you most enjoy a direct story continuation, or do prefer a new take on the same IP?

Neal McMahon

What percentage of your phone notifications are worthless to you? For me I would say probably roughly 80% as I get notifications from YouTube Spotify, junk email and so on. Because of this, I probably spend way more time than I need to check in all these notifications. Do you guys have this problem?

Neal McMahon

Have you ever thought about how most games made from Japanese developers have usually most of their cast as American characters? Konami with Metal Gear and Silent Hill, Falcon with Trails, Capcom with Resident Evil and Street Fighter, Square with FF, the list goes on and on. I know there are outliers like the recent Silent Hill F, but what is it about American that they love? Do they make more money this way? Love to hear your thoughts.

Neal McMahon

For those who have partners who they live with and sleep with, do you share a comforter or do you have your own? There’s no way my wife and I would ever be able to share. She has hers. I have mine separate worlds.

Neal McMahon

Do you prefer to wait until all of a games DLC comes out before playing it? I have a hard time going back to games even if it’s DLC. I think the truest way to experience a game is without breaks. What do you say?
