I would be fine with pretty much anyone asking me if I can grow a mustache, but: a) I can, so it's obviously not embarrassing to say 'yes' b) I am white, so even if I did have to say 'no', it wouldn't come with any feelings of "oh man I am reminded that being Korean makes me less stereotypically masculine, now I am sad" or whatever. This is the big reason I would hesitate to ask anyone I'm not already 99% sure can grow one. Ben would fall into that category though, you can see it when he has a beard.
