I’ve been playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for the past couple of weeks, and I’m completely hooked. Somehow, I’m more addicted to picking flowers than doing almost anything else. It’s such a smart design choice—every time you pick one, your Strength XP ticks up just a bit, dangling that perfect little carrot on a stick.

Jacob Mazanowski

No question this week, just wanted to say thank you for showing me and everyone else how we can show strength and unity in what feels like a powerless situation.

Stevelution

Hey MinnMax crew and Jeremy! What’s the weirdest game you’d love to see get a remake or remaster? Ive always wanted to see Viewtiful Joe get a glow up and a release on modern platforms.

Seabass

How do y’all prioritize podcast listening? With so many amazing shows going, I can barely keep up even with an hour commute each way. Do you pick a couple and listen religiously? Skip episodes when you fall behind? 4x speed and earbuds in at all times?

Victor Pham

What keeps you up at night?

Jump On Everything

Hey minnmax crew, Why don't all video games have chapter selects available from the start like how movies have a scene select option on dvd? Also one of nintendos weirdest games that I think nobody else will mention is Dillon's dead heat breakers. Strange post apocalyptic racing tower defense game with amiimals.

Jaketrix

Hey MinnMax! Thank you for helping raise all that money for Minneapolis! What is your favorite iteration of the Super Mario Bros. theme? Is the original still the best? Or has the orginal or a different composer improved on it with a new arrangement? My personal favorite is the version to that plays on the Special World Map in Super Mario World.

mapleviolet

Can you rank the following at kissing: the T-800, Jake Sully, the xenomorph, and Jack Dawon?

Zae

Hey minnmax, montages have been used in movies for probably decades. I am sure there are more examples of montages in videogames, but I can’t think of any other than the beginning of Cyberpunk 2077 with Jackie, which i genuinely think is bad. Id rather have played through some of those scenes with jackie to develop a relationship with him. What are some of the best or worst montage scenes in movies or video games you can think of?

Nate Voris

There are plenty of people with great/memorable laughs but Haley MacLean has arguably mastered the art of the chuckle. What are some of your favorite chuckles? The only prominent one that comes to mind to me is Muttley from the old Wacky Races cartoons

Mahmoud Hakim

Hey MinnMax, What are some of gaming’s red flags?

SenttheProphet

I am addicted to Cairn, what a beautiful game What other enthusiast/hobby game would you love? Instead of climbing, what about a kayaking survival game?

Catpurrnicus

Ben, I recently stole a joke from you. I had a minor procedure done on Monday and when the nurse brought my partner into the recovery room I screamed 'I dont know this woman!" It feels good to get that off my chest. Has anyone else ever taken credit for a joke that wasn't their own?

Volunder

What’s a niche version of a game you prefer to the “original”? The GBA/DS version of Urbz: Sims in the City has got to be mine, with branching dialogue options and a left-field story completely missing from the “main” PS2 counterpart!

J.Vaso

What would be your ideal video game themed hotel? Think that weird Star Wars hotel where you as the guest and the staff role played being victimized by a fascist empire. I think a Monster Hunter themed hotel could be pretty cool. While obviously you couldn't hunt monsters during your stay, it would be cool to be surrounded by people in various armor sets carrying the weapons in game and eating dishes themed after the ones in game at the hotel restaurant!

Kate Bishop

If you could play a game as an animal, which animal would you choose and what would you be doing in the game?

Cameron Hall

Every time I hear the phrase “this is” in every day life I can’t help think of the song Absolutely (Story of a Girl), all thanks to Delayed Input. Are there any common phrases in life that have been irreversibly altered in your mind from something or someone?

Swansonge

Here’s a combo get-a-load-of-this and question. Get-a-load-of-this: Game Poems is a free zine of interactive game poems. It’s really cool! https://www.gamepoems.com My question: similar to game poems, what kinds of artistic forms do you wish were expressed more often in video game format? Personally, I would like to see more video game albums, like Sayonara Wild Hearts.

Matthew W

Elite Beat Agents is certainly weird - largely in tone and appearance, but also in gameplay, at least to some extent. Much of the DS catalog is weird to me looking back - using two screens and a stylus made for some odd experiments.

Dennis Cortes

What are some of your most memorable guest moments on MinnMax that you still think about? Could be because it was funny, heartfelt, relevant, etc! I’ve been listening for a while but a recent moment that’s etched into my brain was the Metal Gear Solid bit about Umamusume and Charles Harte saying “horse game” just like Snake over and over again 😂 it’s a joke my wife and I reference at least once a week because we were crying laughing about it

Travis in Fargo

Do you think actors who play doctors could actually help people having a real medical emergency?

Matt

Not a question just wanted to say thank you for speaking out and raising money to help people.

Jeeo Banogy

Hey Minnmaxers and Jeremy! Maybe one of Nintendo's oddest sequels: Starfox Adventures? Bonus odd fact, for whatever reason my sister and I had a tough time saying that name and it became "Starfox Temperatures" in my house! Hope you guys are staying warm and safe!

JTDenton

In the upcoming Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Lara Croft will in theory be older than we've ever seen her in a game before. What is the maximum age that you think she will ever be depicted as in a video game?

Travis in Fargo

What special power that only worked in your own home would you choose: flip your personal gravity so you could hang out on the ceiling, OR shrink down to the size of a Borrower (TM)?

Jimmy

How has Nintendo not rolled out DLC for Mario Kart world? I'm shocked that since launch that has not been a single new track or character, which seems to me like that absolute easiest thing to add to keep the game relevant. Can you think of another example of a company leaving so much money on the table?

MarriottPlayer

Odama - released in the spring of 2006 as one of the very last Nintendo GameCube games, came with a microphone, used the microphone, was a tactical pinball game set in Feudal Japan. Now that’s weird.

David M

Anyone ever got into Geist?!

Douglas Bryant

Hello Maximum Miniatures! With the explosion of odd simulation games in the last decade like Schedule One, and with Cairn getting resounding praise from people across both gaming and rock climbing, what hobby or interest area would be your pick to make a really immersive and cool simulation-style game if given the attention to detail, accuracy, and level of writing that Game Bakers have given their game?

Hello, everyone! I'm curious how much responsibility do you think video game review outlets have to make sure their employees have a working knowledge of gaming history, even if they don't play many old games? Many people in the field are great and I'm not trying to call out anyone in particular, but I've seen a few people call Tomodachi Life on 3ds the first one in the series when it definitely is not - there was a Japan-only DS game before that. Granted, we can't expect everyone to know everything and there's only so much you can keep in your head at one time, but facts like these are easily googlable. What's your take? It was a fantastic charity stream and I'm so proud of y'all for what you did. Fuck ICE - go MinnMax! -Dominic from Chicago

Infinite

Hello friends! Has your “favorite game of all time” changed much throughout your life? Mine has only changed twice, from Super Mario 3, to Final Fantasy VIII, to the Mass Effect trilogy. Love the show, love the Ice Out drive! Fuxk ICE!

kajmo

Inspired by Rebecca Sugar's Giraffe Song from to a t, what are some favourite memorable opening lyrics to songs?

Kevin

Were there any weird gaming/industry fads that you stand by as great at the time or wished became mainstream and stuck around? Things like unconventional control schemes (like motion/touch controls or different controller layouts), unique required hardware, or even retailer exclusive tie-ins

SlyCut

Hello all, Please settle something for my family; if your tongue is sticking out between your lips, is your mouth open or closed?

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, I recently took my family to a local Steakhouse and they had a "Beefeater Challenge" that requires you to eat a 3 pound steak, a salad, and a baked potato in an hour. Have any of you ever attempted a local food Challenge in your cities? Who do you think would be the most likely to succeed in a general food challenge among you? Thanks!

Luca Alberti

Hello MM crew! For the weirdest Nintendo game I gotta nominate Find Mii and it's semi-sequel Miitopia. The unhinged humor of those RPGs is delightful.

J Bot

Mystical Ninja Goemon for weird Nintendo games!

Kelsey Sims

What's the most memorable reason you've walked away from a game? Baldur's Gate 3 has been my game to play while we wait for things to come out. This is I think my 4th or 5th attempt at getting through it (never left Act 1), and I'd really picked up steam this time, just shy of 21 hrs last night. However, I didn't realize that having mods enabled made it so that you couldn't unlock any trophies, which to me is a big deal. I understand why, but I was only using ones for cosmetics and there was no indication that it would interfere with my trophy hunting. I was so upset as I was hoping this would finally be the run where I'd at least get to new content if not finish completely, and now I feel like I'll just put it down until next January.

L Stockler

It might genious, but can we agree that Smash Bros is iconicly weird? All the family friendly Nintendo characters duking it out until they are blown away into oblivion, wasn't something ppl could forsee back then. Thinking about the franchise as a whole, who could bet that Cloud, Snake, Pac-man and Sonic would ever fight above princess peach castle?

thejjuan1

Hello Minnmax crew. Congrats on the Ice out charity stream. Jacob asked a great question there so I’m asking it here too. If you have the money to have the Game Awards Orchestra to play five songs from games to perform for you which will it be? ( you know the way they do it for game of the year, tracks that flow to each other)

Jack Seage

Was listening to Bonus Pod (the companion podcast to the MinnMax show hosted by Haley MacLean, which patreon supporters can access at that $5 tier, now with great new outro music) where Ben mentioned what he would do if he was the most evil business man alive, which got me thinking: Can we talk about WinnWax - The Wario to Minnmax's Mario?? What do you think your evil doppelganger is like, and how do they further WinnWax's goals of "Business, Enemies, and Getting Worse"? As for weirdest Nintendo games, I have two nominations: 1. Donkey Kong Jr. (not really that odd, just very strange in retrospect to see this side of Mario) and 2. Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland (is actually that odd, why don't more people talk about this?)

Obruni

Godard’s Breathless (1960) is considered a film classic for upending much of the conventional film making wisdom that preceded it. What game do you think has most overturned perceptions of what a game can or should be/do?

Chris Pelley

What's a gaming mistake you knew you were making but you did it anyways? (I just bought a PSVR2. used, but deep down I think I know it's just a bad choice before I've even tried it. But bad choices are ok sometimes.)

Fachasaurus

Has a video game ever unlocked a new level of appreciation for everyday life? Only after seeing the rain physics in DriveClub did I really start to notice the rain while driving IRL. Now I find myself mesmerized by how water beads pool up on the windshield or swishes away with the wipers. Something so mundane in our day to day that you wouldn't have thought about without experiencing a version of it in a video game!

Will K.

If you had the ability to, with their consent, swap places with any Minn Max cohort at anytime, and the ability to swap back (NOT a body swap a la Freaky Friday, just teleport/swap places). Who would it be? Personally I would pick Janet so I can escape the Canadian winters once in awhile. (hi from Vancouver!)

Luis Pérez

If we're talking about Nintendo's Weirdest Games, the Gamecube has a ton of them; famously Eternal Darkness, but I was always flabbergasted by Odama! Nothing says weird like using a bad microphone to control a pinball and order an army around.

Brandon Milligan

Hey clc's, in the past, AAA game sequels were iterations on their previous entries in smaller ways, but the games were released much faster. A good example being the mass effect trilogy released on one console generation. Obviously things are much different now in game design, both in scope and complexity. I guess my question is where do your expectations lie when it comes to video game sequels nowadays?

Vilis

Dear Cohorts, Will the first AI religion feature a self aware Hatsune Miku as it's figurehead? And will they go on an epic quest to retrieve the Satellite engraved with Hatsune Miku from Venus? Thank you.

Limp Bizquick

If the ps6 had a practical way of adding smells to games as a feature of the console would you buy it? I think I would

Alex McMillan

Hello MinnMax and associates! Just wanted to submit a BetterQuest achievement from this week. I’ve been working on my stand-up comedy for a few years, and on Monday I performed my first full hour-long show to a crowd of 70 people. As someone who submits annually to the Thanksgiving Joke-a-thon, it was really nice to actually write something that made people laugh for a change. (If you’re interested, I perform under the pseudonym Ceili Rae Minogue, and the show was titled Emotional Rollercoaster.) All the best, Alex McMillan in Northern Ireland P.S. Ben, can we get your thoughts on Survivor 50? I wanna hear who you’re excited is returning.

Fancygraham

I just stepped into a president role for a non profit organization for the first time in my life. I want to serve this organization the best I can. But there’s a part of me festering away that is constantly making me think I’m not qualified enough. How do you do it? How do you do what you do without constantly thinking you’ll let people down?

Charlie F.

As an adult gamer, the one constant problem we have in our lives is time. Time to do all we need to do as adults and still be able to sit down with the controller of your choosing at the end of day and relax with a game. Another problem I tend to find I have is that I only ever seem to want to play one game at a time. Which seems to cut into my gaming life even more. So my question is how do you guys find a balance to do all you need to do during the day and still find the time to sit down and play through, I assume, multiple different games during the week?

Adman117

Hello MinnMax! Now that video games as an industry are old enough, we see a pretty constant influx of remakes, remasters, reimaginings, ports to modern hardware and everything in-between. Everyone has their personal preferences with regard to how these games are updated for the modern era. I’ve been thinking about this recently as I’ve had the urge to play through Ocarina of Time again and was overwhelmed by the amount of different ways there are to play the game and a big split on which way is “best”. What do you all find that you value most when experiencing an older game? Updated visuals, quality-of-life, a reimagining (à la Halo: Campaign Evolved) or do you usually find yourself preferring the original, warts and all? Sincerely, Adman117 from Davis, CA

KayBree

Hello! Are there any "perks" you miss from old jobs? I'm not talking money, or health insurance but any small or unique aspect of a job you miss. In highschool, I worked at a Bob Evans restaurant and regularly could snag a biscuit on slow days.

RynaGoGo

Last week on the podcast JeffM said “The handwork is phenomenal. Any crack she’ll slip her fingers into.” No one said anything. It seemed like a layup. My question is do you think that “That’s what she said” will have a renaissance? “My Wife” is having a bit of a comeback and I think it’s possible.

Tokyo Game Life

My nomination for weird Nintendo game: Nintendoji. It was a DSiWare game exclusively distributed to gold and platinum Club Nintendo members in Japan, made by the Sakura Samurai devs. It’s a dungeon crawler that includes items from other Nintendo games. I found it strange that so much effort went into making something that was given away for free to a select few in one country.

Joey Trujillo

With the new FromSoft game Dusk Bloods being a Switch 2 exclusive, do you think there’s a chance we’ll see a character from it added to Smash Bros? And more broadly, what non-Nintendo character would you want to see join Smash?

Alex Ruby

Hey cohorts! Longtime listener first time Patreon supporter here. I want to know what makes a game age well in your opinion? Is it the graphics? Controls? Just nostalgia? What else? What makes a game age poorly? Keep on keeping on!

Nathan Ryer

Hey MinnMax! Back in April ‘06, I imported an Enamel Navy DS Lite and a copy of Ouendan from Japan all the way to Florida. That game is proper Nintendo weird and I still play it on that same same DS. While we did get one sequel and one English spinoff, when will Nintendo bring back this amazing series? PS I miss 1up and I still love listening to Retronauts. The Shanoa shadowbox that came with the Dominus collection is the best piece of video game merch ever. I also still love playing my original copy of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (perhaps the greatest game of all time) on that same Japanese DS Lite

Tom Brien

Which game has been the biggest net positive for humanity? (I mean like doing benevolent good for mankind) And I always liked Face Raiders for weirdest Nintendo game.

Hovercow

Have we hit the ceiling on controller gimmicks? I personally leave the adaptive triggers on if a game takes advantage of them but I get if not everyone is a fan of the feature. A similar point can be made for the switch 2's mouse feature or even the new steam controllers trackpads. Im curious if y'all have any guesses for what could be the next "game changer" whether that be from Nintendo, Xbox, or Sony.

Travis Manick

Hello, MinnMax has always stayed pretty quiet on politics until recently. I’m curious if you’re willing to talk about how your business has changed since becoming so vocal. More or less Patreon subs? Viewer/listener number changes? General tone of comments on social media? Thanks! Manick T

Jeorin

Greetings MinnMax crew! First off, I want to say how proud I am of you all, the community, and Giant Bomb for raising so much money to help people. My question this week is: What is the weirdest word you think you could work into a complete normal conversation?

Matthew Hornyak

Hey minnmax! What musical artist would you want to randomly be in the next Mario game? Could be anyone! Could be a total tonal clash! For me the weirdest Nintendo game has to be wario world, such a strange 3d platformer with a somewhat unhinged vibe that I think a lot of people have forgotten about (even though it’s on NSO now)

DigDuggy

Hey MinnMax, How talkative are you with your pets? Just an occasional "good boy!" or would you tell your pet about how stressful your day was? My cat can't understand me, but he does meow a lot so it's funny just to have a back-and-forth with him. So... am I crazy??

Victor Hensley

Howdy y’all! Listening to last week’s show — where you guys mentioned Mega Man Legends, Fable Legends, and Apex Legends — I realized just how many games have “Legends” in the title. What are some other overused words in video game titles? Are there any that have reached their quota that we should ban from further use?

Kyle Silva

Weird Nintendo-published game submission: Tokyo Crash Mobs It plays alot like the Popcap game Zuma, only the objects you’re throwing and matching are scanned FMV people. One half of the levels are built around you matching people so that you can get in the front of a long line, the other half of the levels are about preventing the people from pressing a button that opens a trap door into outerspace. Honorable mention: Everybody! 1-2 Switch! https://youtu.be/2SAVIrVgc4I?si=PJJ0zNJPThtSTgpB

Hi MinnMax and Jeremy! As an amateur rock climber, I've been really impressed by how well Cairn is simulating the minutiae of climbing a mountain! Have you seen your hobby represented in a video game? Was it done well? What hobby do you think you could build a whole game around? Sincerely, Scrambling in Seattle

CaffeineDad

Hey gang! The two weirdest Nintendo games for me are: Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on N64: 5 year-old me thought I was playing a Dragon Ball Z game because this spiky-haired character could transform into a golden version of himself. It looked like a reskin of Mario 64, but I don’t remember it being nearly as good. Wayne’s World for SNES: As an even younger kid playing this at my cousin’s house, I remember dying frequently in this game, and every time you die Wayne gets on his knees, faces the player, and screams “we’re not worthy!” It was kind of nightmare-inducing and to this day my only interaction with the Wayne’s World franchise.

Virgil B

If a game comes out that’s in a genre you don’t play are you still interested in knowing if it’s good or not?

Steve Bellegarde

Hey MinnMax and Jeremy, I listened to retronauts a ton when I was younger even though I had no frame of reference or access to the titles being discussed. Have you ever enjoyed a discussion regarding media you have never experienced?

CaffeineDad

Hey gang! Question time: last week Ben talked about his late night snack and mentioned eating Cheerios + honey. As a new dad, I felt so seen by this because this has also become my go-to late-night snack for a similar reason: plain Cheerios for the baby with separate honey for me. When was the last time you all felt seen or validated by media? Thanks for always having a great show! From a serial cereal eater in Texas!

Joseph Stanichar

Do you ever sit through the credits of movies, shows or games? If so, is it all the time or only sometimes? And if you do, are you actively watching the credits or are you doing something else while they roll?

Oliver Smith

If we're talking Nintendo's weirdest games, not sure we can have that conversation without talking Pikmin. Now, tiny plant creatures controlled by tiny alien spacemen besieged on all sides by bug monsters is already a wild concept, but what outwardly looks like cute garden hijinks quite often gets dark in the earlier games. For example, there was a sentient frog on concrete rollers that could murder your whole squad in a matter of seconds, that you didn't know when was going to show up, and that was invulnerable whenever it did. Terrifying to a 9 year old. Anything from Nintendo games that really frightened the Minnmax crew?

Memory Card

With St. Valentine's day rapidly approaching: what's a video game romance you love?

Christian Jimenez

Hi! Went skiing this weekend, so very relevant for this week. Bring back Snowboard kids Nintendo !(NSO when?) I'd say it is kinda weird but lots of fun. Thanks.

Joe Dean

When I eat string cheese I don't peel it, and instead consume it as a stick. I find it much more satisfying. I find the peeled string so thin that it barely registers that I've eaten it. My siblings think that's crazy and you can only eat string cheese by pulling it apart. In this false binary I've created, who is correct?

Christopher Reardon

When are we getting the Sokoban Digital Eclipse collection, already? Seriously though, what would you like to see them tackle next? Chris, New Bedford

Michael Nickley

Hi MinnMax! I just started grad school in the fall and will be spending the next six years training to become a psychologist. My question: If you had unlimited time and money to go back to school just for the joy of learning, what would you want to study?

John

Working back from current, which year is the first where you cannot name every first party Nintendo game released in that year?

Luis

Jeremy, as a historian, do you have a 'white whale' that remains tantalizingly out of reach. In your decade of chronicling the NES and Game Boy, what is the one mystery or story you’re still desperate to solve or delve into before you close the book on those systems?

Travis in Fargo

Would you want a life-sized statute of ANYONE?!

What lessons should more video game developers learn from board, card, and tabletop games?

What is the most hopeful video game?

What was your first M video game, your first R movie, and which one was better?

We got Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2's launch day, Star Wars Outlaws three months after that, Assassin's Creed Shadows another three months after that, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Dynasty Warriors Origins on the same day two weeks ago, and now this week, we got pretty glowing impressions on the Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 9 and Pragmata (as in both of them either run at 60 fps or within the 40-60 fps VRR window https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xEBbE7912A0&t=808s). With all that in mind, and with the current state of the industry making it unlikely for game graphics to advance much more than what they're at right now, how many more of these home run third party Switch 2 ports do you think we need before the system's capabilities stop being treated like an SEO-friendly topic among games media?

Hisham Berro

What game holds a special place in your heart not because of how good it is but because of the memories attached to it? For me it is Outlast, I played it with my brother and sister, we spent the whole time screaming and laughing at everything, one time we screamed soo loud our mom came running and gave us a scolding when she found out it was because of a game. And I know that I wouldn't have liked that game as much as I do had I played it by myself. P.S. we weren't kids when this happened, we all were in our 20s haha.

Bryden

Modern games have largely settled on an agreed-upon control scheme per genre, but is there a game with control implementation outside this norm that you're particularly fond of?

Gabe Brandolino

I've watched Sam Raimi's recent Send Help twice now, and I'm wondering with Ben being such a big Survivor fan, has he seen it and what are his thoughts?

Alex K.

Weird game submissions: you have heard about excitebike but what about Excitebots: Trick Racing. The surprising arcade racer sequel released for the wii. It has animal themed robotic cars, terrain altering race tracks, and motion control minigames you play mid race.

Rikimaru

Hey all! There has been a recurring joke online for games without an immediately recognizable character and adding "John" to it. Like play as "John Highguard" in Highguard. But why John? And who is the most famous John?

Random Oil Man

What is the most Nintendo game that isn't a Nintendo game?

b_wood

In the latest episode of Pew Pew Bang (Video Game Crushes and Online Boyfriends), Kelsey said protagonists in JRPGs are never 1 of the 2 most interesting or coolest characters in the game. I disagree since I think this is more of a problem in western RPGs while several JRPGs avoid this issue (FF9, FFX, and Yakuza LaD to name a few). Is Kelsey wrong about JRPG protagonists? Can you name some RPG protagonists that are the most interesting characters in their game? Also, what RPG has the most interesting protagonist?

Hi MinnMax and Jeremy! It's late and I'm hungry. What's your favorite or go-to mid-night snack?

Jason Wojnar

When was the last time you had a really long and fulfilling conversation with a complete stranger? It happens to me quite often because I live in Ukraine and on long train rides people will see my US passport and hear how good my Ukrainian is and immediately be intrigued.

Yo Adriaaan

As a weird point of comparison, Nintendo adult/sexy games used to be a big no-go and obviously were never published by the company itself. However, there are a few rare bootlegs from Japan/HK/Taiwan that I've heard of through "controversial game" videos and such (no really!!). Nowadays I swear the Switch holds one of the biggest libraries of adult games of any console outside PC. Looking at homebrew/romhack directories I often see piratable roms for these games and good luck finding anything starting with H! - Naked in Northeast

Do you computer loving cohorts care about the Superb Owl?

Hey MinnMax Cohorts! With some controversy over Dragon Quest 7 coming out in more of a diorama art style, what game, if any, were you hesitant to play due to its art style, but ultimately enjoyed?
