Jeffm bringing the heat but im with him

Vilis

54:00 Naw, I've only heard positive feedback from cat people I know 😆

Vilis

57:30 they did something similar in Massive Chalice.

Vilis

1:17:00 there is a Bomberman MOBA called Bombergirl. It's just as gross as JeffM wants.

DigDuggy

Thank you JeffM for speaking the truth about Horizon. Development cycles take far too long these days to be making all these offshoots that may or may not work. Guerilla needs to wrap up the story.

Joshua Turner

Sorry, JeffM, but I disagree. I am a Horizon fan & I love the art style & am very much looking forward to Hunters Gathering.

Leif Dion

Jeffm is correct lol

beargrub

tbh had to skip the horizon bit because it got so heated and gave me flashbacks of my parents getting divorced lol

Tom Brien

Haha I love the positivity of MinnMax, and also I love JeffM shutting down Horizon immediately!! On the art style: Janet is right that it's communicating the type of gameplay they made, and also there's a 2nd reason. F2P games design artwork that can run on low-end computers because they need to reach a wide audience to succeed. Fewer blades of grass, fewer strands of hair, fewer small details. Like World of Warcraft, Team Fortress and Fortnite, not like Horizon Zero Dawn. I think this'll be a wide release on PC and PS5

The early Mewgenics conversation was pretty funny given what we now know: 90 critic score + 85k concurrent players on PC, on its way to becoming more popular than Isaac. Ben mentioned the game taking at least 100 hours while reviewers are estimating 200–300. Edmund's brand of humor really isn't my vibe, but I'm willing to put that aside and acknowledge he makes some of the richest experiences out there. It sounds like he and Tyler really poured their all into this one.

Beau!

The start screen to Romeo is a Deadman is best thing of 2026!

I have not played Horizon, but from what I have seen and read, which is to say what I perceive the vibe to be, is JeffM is right. Horizon is quickly getting as tired of a franchise as Last of Us. It's all Sony seems to have, it'll be a big part of defining the PS5 lifecycle in Sony's history. We need more variety, and if all Sony has to launch year in and year out is live service games and a new port of Last of Us/a new Horizon spinoff, who is going to keep wanting them? If they were also putting out more Uncharted games, more Jak games, and more interesting new IP, that'd be something, but people see Concord as a failure, and All the game cancelations, and it feels like there's nothing else. This new Horizon could be good, but it's easy to see why people are cynical.

David Edgar

I think PS6 delayed and a new PS handheld that can play PS4/5 games.

Dylan Malcher

Ben asking Jeffm, “are you out of your mind?!” like it isn’t him with the wild Horizon take… Sorry Ben but that was really painful to listen to.

Braulio Martinez

Team JeffM. Idk if Hanson is playing devil's advocate for discussion or to try to maintain relationships (not that I really think that after the way Jacob dunked on his free Quest 3) but what is Ben's point? That fans of the mainline games need to be on board with all the new crap? That it's ok to lose the soul of a franchise if you can get new fans? The Star Wars comparison was spot on. Horizon was a great game that has lost its lacklustre and is now being exploited (maybe because the ex-Sony head made the poor franchise)...

Brian

I love JeffM

Jeremy Stasyszen

JeffM's totally right here. Cuz what I want out of my single player franchise is another multiplayer hero shooter.

Devin L

Mom, dad, please stop fighting

CookieCutter

Love the art style; the shading, textures, animation, but I completely despise the cartoony characters. It’s entirely possible to have a non serious look without Fortnite characters please, studios.

jess wins

"while i was reviewing Reanimal i threw on a podcast" ???

Lilly S

Team JeffM all the way, keep fighting the good fight!!!!

Sorry for the following wall of text. I urge anyone who is on the fence or negative about McMillen and his work to listen to any recent interview with him (I want to point to the Post Games interview in particular with Chris Plante). He finds what makes us all unique the most interesting and explorable part of humanity. He understands and wants players to understand the levity and serious consequences of him naming it what he did, and the disorders - superpowers and detriments - to stand out and become part of everyday conversation. Does he make gross-out and "immature" jokey game content sometimes? Sure. But I think most people are missing the personal context on why he does this. I'm autistic and I joke about my autism all the time. His child is autistic. He himself has multiple neurological disorders. He's trying to bring all of this sh*to to the forefront of conversation. He's not just naming the game out of left field. The level of intention is mind boggling and so far past welcome and necessary. Not only is he not poking fun at these things, he's openly celebrating what makes us unique as humans like no other developer has ever done before. He understands that while these things - mental and physical - can be absolutely crippling and debilitating - that those of us who live with these circumstances every day often find it absof*ckinglutely hillarious about the cards we've been dealt. (He also touches on the sociopolitical implications of Eugenics, because of course he does.) The pearl clutching must end. Not only does this miss the point, it denies those of us with neurological disorders our own voice to speak about how we feel and what we want. We're begging you to talk about these things out in the open, d*mmit! /rant

Ben is great and I'm a huge fan, but that argument with JeffM wasn't it. Just seemed like he was being oblivious or creating heat where it didn't need to be. It's not about how good Guerilla is, it's about how bad Sony is, or hey sometimes really good studios miss.

Josh Lambert

Excellent horizon discussion

If Square Enix put out a FF7 multiplayer shooter with a completely different art style than any of the the FF7EU games previous where all of the characters do Fortnite dances when they win a match would Hanson think it was a great entry into the FF7 universe? I think people are sick of every company trying to come up with some new online multiplayer game. The veneer is wearing thin and people are starting to realize that these games are not being made at the hands of people who are passionate about making the best online multiplayer game they can, they are being made at the hands of people who want to sell as many skins and emotes as they can. Hunters Gathering is the same way. It doesn't have the feel of a game made out of passion by people who love the world they've created, it feels like a game made at the request of some trend chasing MBA who probably couldn't tell a PlayStation 5 from a PlayStation 4. People are getting tired of free to play whale chasing slop even when it's not tied to some existing IP, so it sucks even more to see a franchise you like go down that route like Horizon is doing now.
