Hey CLCs I don’t know about you all, but I’m incredibly nostalgic about the games I play. Each one feels tied to a specific season of the year—and a specific chapter of my life. Sometimes I’ll catch a random smell and instantly be transported back to that spring when I spent three straight months playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Or I’ll think about 2018, stuck inside during that massive ice storm in Chicago, playing Resident Evil 2 Remake while the world outside was frozen over. As gamers, nostalgia might be one of our best—and most powerful—traits. It’s amazing how tightly games can anchor memories, sounds, and even feelings in time. But that brings me to my question: how hesitant are you to revisit those nostalgic games out of fear they won’t live up to the memory? I find myself doing this all the time. Part of me wants to preserve those experiences exactly as they were—locked away in a corner of my mind, untouched and perfect. Sometimes that means not replaying The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 for years, just to protect what they meant to me in that moment.

It seems like a particularly difficult biome to build in a game given the amount of moving parts needed to make them feel lively, busy, and realistic.

Hey MinnMax, Is there a TV Show that you either recently watched or watched many years after it initially aired that you wish you had watched growing up/at the time of it's initial airing? For me I wish I had watched Deep Space Nine growing up as a kid in the 90s, I watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and was blown away with how good it is. Sure I wouldn't have caught what made it so great as a kid but it would've turned me into a fan of that era of scifi shows.

Every videogame sequel is put into a bucket based on their number in the series (all 2nd games in a series are in the 2 bucket, a 3rd games in a series is in the 3 bucket, etc). Which number bucket has the best videogames? I would argue 4, with games in the bucket like Resident Evil 4, Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, Call of Duty 4, GTA 4, Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag, and so on.

Has a video game ever unlocked a new level of appreciation for everyday life? Only after seeing the rain physics in DriveClub did I really start to notice the rain while driving IRL. Now I find myself mesmerized by how water beads pool up on the windshield or swishes away with the wipers. When I was a teenager, no one I knew could afford their own PlayStation except for one older friend who had a real job and could. He brought home the first Resident Evil one day and we were all dying to play it, but he never let us touch it. We could watch him play it as much as we wanted but it was off limits to us….and I have absolutely (and undeservedly) loathed that despicable, piece of garbage series ever since. Hello MinnMax crew! Following the disastrous closure of BluePoint from last week we're currently 2/2 for games studios that were founded by former Retro Studios staff in 2026. Armature studio was silently killed by Meta in January. Retro has put up job listings for open positions showing solidarity for the difficult state of the industry. Can you think of other studios that spun off from an established game company that closed while the original company kept their doors open?

I just read in the last issue of A Profound Waste of Time that the widespread rumor that DK64 was shipped with the Expansion Pack due to a bug found last minute is false. The real reason was Nintendo forced it on them to move the packs and they actually struggled to find a use for it (the main payoff was improved lighting). How good are you at spotting fake leaks/rumours outside of video games? In this space, I can always spot the BS a mile away like I feel a lot of us can. A leak announcing 15 things we all really want? Yeah that's fake. But I am not a Magic TG dork, I've dabbled and actually won my 1st and only ever game, but never found a set that screams to me so just never got into it. Cut to the fake, Zelda Magic The Gathering, it wasn't some etsy fan made thing but an announcement and I knew so little about MTG that I didn't immediately spot it as fake and my wallet started fearing for its life, but thankfully within an hour I'd debunked it and had it confirmed to be fake from others too. Also Nintendo please don't do this crossover, I can't afford this kind of vice in my life right now.

So MinnMax, I just finished NieR Replicant, perhaps the penultimate "Wait, the game gets good at the end! Also there are multiple endings, so just keep going, trust me!" game. I've heard some people say it's a bad model for a game to only be worth playing for the ending, but I think NieR, and more recently Silent Hill f, prove that it can work extremely effectively and in a way that I think only video games can truly tell a story. What Say you? Are we too precious with our time if it means the pay-off can be incredible? Should games front load the good stuff? Or shall we take Sarah's admonishment of the game's industry that they all should have learned this lesson from Chrono Trigger 30 years ago? (i.e. a game is good from the start, never really wastes your time, and has banger multiple endings)

Hey MinnMax, I'm probably in the minority, but I think exclusives are a net positive - they encourage console makers to want to make great games in order to sell more hardware. To keep Xbox as a console alive, would it be a good idea for the Elder Scrolls VI to be a timed console exclusive? The most anticipated game after GTA6, and for the first 12 months you have to own an Xbox or PC to play it.

Something I've been wondering in light of the Horizon Hunter's Gathering conversation is why do you think Zelda is so amenable to a variety of styles in a way that other franchises aren't? Hey MinnMax crew! Do you have any memories of being terrible at video games? As in, before you had any experience, those days when you were still learning the basic vocabulary of gaming? I'm always surprised by often I revisit games of which I have fond and seemingly complete memories from my early childhood, only to realize that I only played the same stage or two over and over again because I just could not progress past the first boss or a tricky platforming section. My sister and I have been recently exchanging YT videos of our earliest games (on the GameGear) and learning that we sucked so bad at, say, Return of the Jedi or the Lion King that we just sort of bounced around the very first level, never seeing the majority of the game. That was just sort of normal for us, so much so that we just would "play" as the characters in those levels instead of progressing. Just sorta strange to think how normalized it was for us to not progress, and be totally fine with playing around in one stage rather than getting frustrated or giving up! I wonder if anyone else has similar memories.

Hello all, This is kind of heavy I apologize; I recently found out one of my best friends from high school has sadly passed away from suicide back in November. We are all in our mid 30's and don't have as much contact because some of us have moved away or gotten married and started families. When we found out All of our old group of friends got together to reminisce about all the incredible games nights we had back in high school between midnight smoke sessions during Rock Band or getting together and doing ridiculous Halo 3 forge custom matches. All that being said, what are some of your fondest gaming memories with friends that you grew up with? Howdy MinnMax! One of the headscratchers that I'm hearing from gaming outlets and podcasts in the lead up to the release of RE9 is the seemingly revisionist history in regards to how popular RE6 was. One metric that they always reference is the game's high sales numbers, which as of September 2025 was more than 15 million units. Am I nuts? I feel like I'm on crazy pills because I distinctly remember it -- when it was released in 2012 -- being lambasted by fans and critics alike and questions of whether or not the Resident Evil franchise would survive or if it had forever lost its identity. My question for you, to each of you, what's one of the more memorable instances where you feel like you've been gaslit with gaming (i.e. being told something was good when it's bad, being told something is bad when it's actually good, etc.)?

Is it just me, or has Resident Evil Requiem had the most goofily dishonest marketing campaign? From the ad at SGF stating they weren’t ready to share in about RE9 45 minutes before the reveal, to them straight up lying about Leon’s involvement, I haven’t seen a company throw out such inoffensive dishonesty about their upcoming game. Are there any other games where the publisher or developer did this?

What gaming opinion of yours goes against the grain the most? For example, I really dislike Pokémon Legends: Arceus. When I catch a Pidgey, that's my special little guy. No need to catch another, even if it has bad stats. The fact that you have to catch multiple Pokémon of the same type in Arceus to fill the Pokédex gives me hoarder vibes that I'm not looking for in a Pokémon game. It waters down the special connection I have with my team. And I don't think there are a lot of people thinking like me, according to review scores 😅

Hey minnesotamaximum! I’m in a tricky predicament and could use your guidance. I think I’m gonna call it quits with Blue Prince. I rolled credits a bit ago, and I’m at the point now where I’m starting to get diminishing returns and am eager to look up spoilers. I’ve got fomo pulling me in too many different directions. Hello Minnmax! Question for Haley, what do you think of the new additions and characters to Overwatch? I really like the drop of five characters because it was so easy to get into a game and try at least one without waiting for 10 minutes to play. The story they are adding is not pulling me because I don’t find motion comics fun to watch. All in all I think the game is still fun to play even though the cat is not fun to play against 😆

Hello Minnmax, Star Wars Outlaws recently went onto Gamepass so I decided to finally check it out. 50 hours later when I rolled credits (and even completed both DLC's) I thought dang that was a good game. So I started doing some research since I remember the game not getting the best of reviews when it came out. Turns out they did a lot of quality of life fixes to the game, so much in fact that it seems that the game honestly should have been given an extra year of development. Cyberpunk 2077 is another example of this where the version played at release is not nearly as good as the version a year or even 2 years later. My question is what games have you played or checked out that you thought dang I wish this version of the game is the one that was released. Thank you for all you guys do, -Quinn
