Hey CLCs, with RE9 out and Leon back, I’ve been thinking about how it relates to the series. It’s clear that Leon in 9 is a continuation of the 2+4 remakes, not the originals. How do you feel about a series rewriting its own history via remakes to the extent that the newest mainline entries only work because of the remakes? Are there any other examples of this?

I don’t know about you all, but I’m incredibly nostalgic about the games I play. Each one feels tied to a specific season of the year—and a specific chapter of my life. Sometimes I’ll catch a random smell and instantly be transported back to that spring when I spent three straight months playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Or I’ll think about 2018, stuck inside during that massive ice storm in Chicago, playing Resident Evil 2 Remake while the world outside was frozen over. As gamers, nostalgia might be one of our best—and most powerful—traits. It’s amazing how tightly games can anchor memories, sounds, and even feelings in time. But that brings me to my question: how hesitant are you to revisit those nostalgic games out of fear they won’t live up to the memory? I find myself doing this all the time. Part of me wants to preserve those experiences exactly as they were—locked away in a corner of my mind, untouched and perfect. Sometimes that means not replaying The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 for years, just to protect what they meant to me in that moment.

I’ve been playing and loving Returnal. Not to get into spoilers, but a thing I was not expecting to hear in the game was a licensed song. The moment I heard it, I thought it was cool. But it also made me think how a lot of games get pulled off of digital storefronts due to expiring licenses. I’m guessing Returnal is going to be one of those games in the coming years. What do you think about licensed tracks in games?

Hey Minnmax, What is it that motivates you good folks to play many hours of a multiplayer game? I've always struggled to stick with these kinds of games for longer than a few days. I find it difficult to feel motivated to come back to them because of a lack of real progression or end in sight.

Do you guys think that the moral of Monster's Inc is flawed? In the film, the Monsters come to realize that laughter generates more electricity than screaming, so they switch to making kids laugh instead of scaring them. But do you think it would've been a more powerful message if screaming still produced more electricity than laughter but they decided to still switch to making kids laugh because it's the more ethically correct choice?

In light of Pokémon Pokopia becoming the highest rated Pokémon game of ALL TIME on MC, I took a look back at how the series has performed in the past and I was BAFFLED by how wrong reviewers had it. Universally beloved entries like Emerald, Platinum and Black/White 2 got much harsher scores than some of the weaker ones like X/Y and Sun/Moon. Hello Minnmax. Ok you got to explain to me why Bloodborne gets so much love and why everyone wants a remake? You know, a PS4 game. That you can play on your PS5. The drama over this weekend on its cancelled remake from Bluepoint was my tipping point. The way people talk about this game sounds like it’s as important as an Ocarina of Time, a Mario 64, or a Final Fantasy 7? Because I don’t get the hype for this game. This is from someone who is not a big fan of FromSoftware games.

I have another friend who's like the biggest cinephile but admits that she doesn't really care about music. I am definitely a mixed medium enjoyer, but I read much less than I play games or watch movies (I'm also not that big into theater). What's a medium that you've struggled to get into? Have you tried getting into it before? How did that go?

On the most recent Pew Pew Bang episode, they looked at the first commercial for Pokémon Go that came out a decade ago. Although I watched it back then and was super excited for it, I had completely forgotten about it all this time later. The only commercial/trailer that I can remember is the Gears of War Mad World trailer from 20 years ago. Why is this? What game trailers or commercials stay in your mind after all this time?

I’m playing Resident Evil Requiem and I am loving it. I’m a horror movie fan and like most fans of the genre, I think jump scares are a cheap way to add tension to a movie. Do you feel the same standard should apply to games? I’m only a few hours into Requiem and feel like there hasn’t been too many jump scares, but I find that the scenarios that keep me on my toes the most are when there’s a long hallway or quiet moment where I’m anticipating a jump scare.

After lots and lots of hours, this podcast I’m listening to now is one of the first ones I’ve been in time for in 8 months, and I was able to catch up on everything! Even though I was only 17 when Pokemon anime came out, I have never played a Pokemon game or owned any cards. These cute bastards have finally won me over and I want to play my first Pokemon game. It's down to Arceus or my leaning choice, Pokemon Snap. I think it makes sense. I want to really get to know them visually and by name, before getting into the whole gameplay aspect of it. Hey MinnMax crew! What's your favorite spinoff of a franchise that isn't like the original franchise? Mine has to be Pokémon Pinball. I don't even like pinball on its own but the Pokémon twist of catching and evolving Pokémon made that game so much fun. It's pretty much my default "what's your favorite Pokémon game?" when asked. It seems like a slam dunk of a game for Nintendo to bring back.

Does anyone else actually like Pokémon's short, low-budget cycles? It used to bring me great joy to know that every three years, I could jump into a new region to explore. And if I didn't enjoy a release, the wait between games wasn't long. With so many other series having such long gaps between releases, Pokémon was a breath of fresh air. (Also, I know the Legends titles exist, but they aren't as big or supported for as long as the proper headlining games for each region.)

Hey MinnMaxers, I just finished playing through Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and it was a fantastic game (#KyleWasRight). However, it's setting, a dilapidated hotel, went from feeling eerie to downright claustrophobic and nightmarish. Although I knew its layout intimately by the end of the game, I couldn't wait to get out. What games did you really enjoy, but had a setting that really turned on you by the end, and left you longing for the carefree rolling hills of an open world game?
