On this week's Bonus Pod, host Haley MacLean is joined by anime fan Janet Garcia and Kelsey Lewin as they discuss all things anime (old and new). Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is the slice of life hotness that you need to checkout. Haley, Janet, and Kelsey discuss what shows got them into anime and what they're watching now.

I see this bonus pod is directed squarely at me. Edit: Watch K-On! It's about girls in high school that start a band, eat cake, and support each other. It's the best.

Kelsey cosplayes Ed from Cowboy Bebop?? Adorable. I need to know if she had an Ein dog companion.

If you want an anime series which basically made every D&D joke people make nowadays back in the 90's, and more, and has a fantastic female lead: Slayers. OP main character who knows everything about the world and she's obsessed with loot? Check Idiot blonde himbo swordsman who actually is good at being a warrior? Check Goody-two-shoes hero for justic princess who does the whole monologue thing? Check Edgelord multiclass guy with BACKSTORY deeply tied to the plot and the main villain? Check And it deftly occilates between hilarious and engaging drama. Oh, and then the second season, Slayers NEXT, it has a character who is basically a DM self-insert trying to give the characters a quest, and all the cast does is give him back talk and push back like a real D&D party would, before finally agreeing to participating in the plot, and the whole show he's just kind of a goofy guy, but you can tell each time he's there it's to get the player characters back on track. Also it's one of the iconic performances in Japanese and English for the main character. Whether it's Megumi Hayashibara (Anime Legend) or Lisa Ortiz (Definitely a legend in this series) you're gonna have a good time.

As someone who grew up eating ube related things (halo-halo, Ube ice-cream, candied, ube buns) it's so weird that it's a trend. I tried the Ube foam not too long ago and it's so artifical. I recommend trying the rest of Filipino cuisine!

It does have some unfortunate fan service at times, but would highly recommend Code Geass. Tight two seasons that wraps up extremely well.. Does get quite dark though in terms of its themes. Very much about fascism and genocide and imperialism, but very good. It is not always dark; it can get very silly also, but the main story arc focus is quite serious. Definitely worthwhile though!
