Who has the most famous “waka waka”? Fozzie Bear Shakira Pac-Man

Hey MinnMax, Let’s play a game. Think about everything you’ve bought throughout your life, especially things you barely used or eventually stopped using. Excluding things like houses and cars, if you could pick one material thing you’ve spent money on and magically get all that money back, what would it be? For me, I’ve probably spent tens of thousands on video games and technology, and thousands on shoes.

Question: You are thrown in jail. You can either get a 5 year sentence OR you have to stay in jail until your mom beats Elden Ring. No help, no substitutes, no online guides. Which sentence are you going with?

Guard Scorpion in the original FF7 has 800 health, in FF7 remake it has around 9000 health. How much health should the first boss in an RPG have? The normal amount is in the hundreds or thousands, but i can’t think of any game where the first boss had 10-50 health that wasn’t good.

Thom Blackburn

Are community created genre names impossible to change? Fighting back against "walking simulator" and "friendslop" seems like a waste of time

sandeezy

so we’re getting a ff7 revelation deepest dive right? and we’re getting maximilian dood on the show finally right??

Sjors Boomschors

My son is now 6 years old and starting to get into gaming, so I'm exploring how to share my hobby with him without being pushy about it. So my question (for the parent gamers out there, sorry): what was the best parent child gaming experience/memory you remember?

Hello friends, Given the cavalcade of poor decisions and direction coming from Xbox and Microsoft, it got me to thinking…. Could Xbox be run any worse by any number of fictional corporations that were known for being cartoonishly bad? The best I could come up with was Kabletown from 30 Rock. I’m positive if you swapped Asha Sharma for Jack Donaghy you’d accidentally end up making Xbox better through shenanigans and buffoonery.

What’s your go-to appetizer order?

Hello Minnmax, a couple weeks ago British pop icon Charli XCX released her eighth album "Music, Fashion, Film" with an art cover featuring Welsh singer John Cale, American fashion designer Marc Jacobs and film director Martin Scorsese in a photo together. The other day I saw After math's Gita Jackson made a post playing on this title "Music, Fashion, Film, Video Games". My question to you, who would represent video games on this hypothetical album cover? Once youve all answered Kojima, who would be you other pick? Gita's post: https://bsky.app/profile/xoxogossipgita.bsky.social/post/3ms7qkj55vk2g

Hey MinnMax! If you could be a detective in any time period, which would you choose?

JHerb

Hey Cohorts! Now that we've got a big game about walking and talking getting rave reviews, what game would you pitch based on a normal, everyday activity? Big Handshake? Big Wave? Big Bike Ride? Bonus points if you can infuse some existential meaning (even grief, for Janet).

Christian Hall

Hey MinnMaxers! Do you have a go-to question you open with to start conversations with strangers? I’m trying to get better at going to local meet ups and meeting new people. From your experience, what general questions tend to start good conversations? Also, loved the Big Walk video! Fun seeing so many MinnMax folks in one game!

Fossil Arcade

Do you have an embarrassing gaming memory? Mine is going to buy Twilight Princess on launch day with all my friends ... after walking two hours from home to the store I realised I'd left my wallet behind. I had to watch everyone buying TwiPri while I went home empty handed. I did not receive much sympathy.

BEEFCAKE

With the imminent downfall of Xbox and the amount of Playstation hate for dropping physical media, do you think Sega could release a Dreamcast 2 and be mostly successful? Oh man get Atlus to make the console UI 🤤

Hey MinnMax, If you had a chance to gain mastery (with no effort on your part) over one non-professional skill, what would you choose and why?

Dominic Lee

How will you organize the deepest dive on Fire Emblem when there appears to be 4 different paths?

Hi team, I’ve had a hot few weeks where being inside has been mandatory and finally cracked into Baldur’s Gate 3. The systems in this game are a miracle. I cannot believe the game lets me do the things that it lets me do. It’s crazy that 2023 gave us 2 sets of game systems that felt like miracles: Baldur’s Gate 5th edition dungeons and dragons combat and Ultrahand in Tears of the Kingdom. On one hand, I’m sad we haven’t had a game since then that has felt miraculous. On the other hand, I don’t think games like these happen that often. Mario 64, world of Warcraft, and guitar hero come to mind. What are your favorite moments of “I can’t believe this works so well” systems in videogame history?

Shoes

Game Pass used to be the best deal in gaming. What's the best deal now? I've been pleasantly surprised with Amazon Luna and am playing Dispatch.

RynaGoGo

Hey what’s cooler, being able to backflip on flat ground, grind a skateboard or shred a guitar solo? I’m not talking about what’s more impressive. I’m asking what makes you say “…cool”

Hi MinnMax, Considering 2006 was 20 years ago, the video game industry has changed a lot, fall of Xbox, rise of indies, colossal development budgets. What do you predict the video game industry will look like in another 20 years in 2046?

Benny Jackson

Hello hello, What song from a game soundtrack has no business being as good as it is? Mine’s “Too Much Is Never Enough,” the original Florence and the Machine track from Final Fantasy XV. Absolutely epic. Oh also, we walked out to their “Stand By Me” cover (the game’s main theme) at our wedding. First time writing in, longtime listener since before MinnMax existed.

p9xm

Hi MinnMax, Marvel has tasked you with casting the new X-Men reboot from a shortlist including all MinnMax cohorts, Luigi from Mario, Cole from InFamous, and Saga from Alan Wake. You must cast for: - Professor X - Beast - Magik - Colossus - Storm - Magneto Get on it!

Alex

Hello, MinnMax crew! What’s your favorite animal/nature cam live stream? I’m a new-ish Patreon subscriber and on the very first episode of bonus pod I listened to in June, Haley casually mentioned the Vancouver aquarium sea otter live cam. Little did I know how life-changing that would be. My wife and I are now obsessed.

Jacob Mazanowski

Microsoft comes to you and says here is $10 million. Write us a campaign story so good that it saves the Halo franchise. What do you write?

Hayden Williams

Hey cohorts! You’ve bought a zoo! But not any old zoo, a video game zoo. And now you need to pick the best creatures in gaming to fill your exhibits. The categories are broad and up to interpretation. What would you pick to best represent games in each of the following exhibits: Aviary - Reptile House - Monkey/Gorilla- Big Cat- Aquatic - Large Land mammal - Wild Card (any weird or special creature to make your zoo the best)-

whitemex

Are there any insignificant dumb purchases you seem to never make? For instance, I always see fun license plate frames on cars and I always think to myself that I want one and will buy one. This has been a thought of mine for like 10 years

What’s a movie you love you are absolutely sure no one else on the panel has ever heard of. I’ll start: The Voice of Grass

Has watching media influenced your game taste at that time? After watching The Odyssey twice. I began replaying Hades 2, God of War (2005), and of course Assassin Creed Odyssey. To get more Ancient Greek in my life. This happened again when I finally watched the Sopranos. I played GTA 3,Mafia remastered and Old Country.

Galexzzz

Hey MinnMax, I think one of the most defining traits from a good and memorable sequel is how big of a leap it’s able to make over its predecessor. Sequels that elevate a good or “just fine” 7/10 to a 9/10 experience are far more impressive than near masterpieces that improve a 9/10 to a 10/10. With that framing in mind, what do you think are the best sequels that have the largest jump in quality?

Jeeo Banogy

Hey Minnmaxers! Any fun conversational bits that you've picked up from any new Video Games, Movies, or Shows recently? I've still been rocking the "That's my secret cap..." bit personally from the first Avengers movie! Help me expand my repotoire! Thanks!

How and why do the new fire emblem characters have magic guns? Has there been firearms in any prior fire emblem games? Why does the gun in the direct look so sci-fi, is this a time travel thing?! I'm more interested in the game now. I'm also hopeng for magic sniper rifles.

Mike Lynch

The recent release of Toy Story 5 reminded of a question I had about another Disney property: Doc McStuffins. Doc is a young girl who magically brings her playroom toys to life and gives them medical care. When Doc is not there, the toys are not sentient. In season 4, Doc's Grandma magically transports her to McStuffinsville, where the toys live while asleep in the human world, and they run the local hospital. Bases on the logic of the show... When Doc and Grandma are in our world, are they just lifeless bodies in McStuffinsville?

Matt Van Boeyen

Hi MinnMax, Which real life historical figure's life do you think would make the best video game? Genre can be whatever you want to make it the best fit.

It's Hugo's Nook

Hi there MinnMax! What's the weirdest way you've ever consumed a piece of media? My first experience with the film classic "The Godfather" was through the Nintendo Wii game "The Godfather: Blackhand Edition". It interspersed some footages of the movie usually as a way to kick off or cap off a story mission. I remember watching the movie for the first time years later and going "hey, I cut that horse's head and put it there!"

Jeff Britton

In honor of Big Walk, what's your most memorable experience being lost outside?

SlyCut

Hello all, I just hooked up a hot tub and have learned way more about water and electricity than I expected to. What seemingly simple task ended up being a huge learning experience for you?

Jay L

Big Walk is going to draw comparisons to friend “slop” games like Peak, even if it might not be one itself. Where do you draw the line between “slop” and “non-slop” games? What do you think makes the difference between a well done and poorly done “slop” game?

Shane G

Have you ever fallen in love with how a game feels to play? I missed out on Jak and Daxter as a kid but finally played them a few years ago and within a minute of controlling Jak I knew I was gonna have a good time. His snappy animations and the assortment of different jumps and spins he can do, and how useful they all are, it felt so right... I fell in love that day.

Brian W

Seeing those beast of reincarnation review scores make me want to play it even more somehow. Like if it was a 7 or 8 I’d probably be less interested than it getting straight 6s. It’s like the score has the opposite reaction to its intention! Why do I feel this way?

Stevelution

Hey MinnMax, what’s your favourite game soundtrack? I think Persona 5 Royal is the one for me. That game could have been 200 hours of walking simulator and I would have rolled credits on the soundtrack alone.

Alon Zwick

Hi MinnMax, Throw your mind back to the 00s when movie tie-in video games were common and imagine a world where that continued to today. What would the Odyssey video game look like? Who would make it? What would you be doing in the game? Would you need to play it on a 70mm IMAX screen?

Chris Pelley

Odds that there'll be a Minnesota meetup before winter?

Cody Collins

Hi ho Minnmax crew! If you could get gifted a collection of ANYTHING(and let's also assume you have the space to display it), what would it be? Insects? Amiibos? Stamps? Thanks for all you guys do!!

saibher (cyber)

Hey Cohorts! As you all know, Halo Campaign Evolved does not have splitscreen co-op on PC, but neither does the Master Chief Collection (without mods) nor Gears of War Reloaded (2025). If the next Xbox just plays PC games, is there still a future for good ol' splitscreen? With the rise of living room PCs and industry-recognized splitscreen co-op bangers like It Takes Two, Split Fiction, and even Baldurs Gate 3, do you think devs/publishers should make that a higher priority in the future? I'd love to play more big games on the couch with my partner. Cheers!

Luca Alberti

Hello MinnMax crew, we're in the mids of yet another heat wave in Europe, which means only one thing is on my mind: Showers! How many showers do you think is too many to take in a day? No cheating, stop googling as scientists have made studies about this topic (the answer is almost always "It depends" anyway) just give the number your gut says is too much.

Thomas Deranek

It has been a while since MinnMax produced new merch. Do the cohorts ever talk about introducing new T-shirts, stickers, hats, mugs, or patented pancake-making machines? Just a curious shopper, asking around. Thomas from Raleigh, NC

Nick deVries

Hi MinnMax, My brother and I have a continual reference to certain media, that upon its release date, we would take the day off from work to celebrate and dive into. The poster child for this reference for both of us is The Winds of Winter (come on George!), but I also would include Last of Us Part 3 for myself. I know this may look a bit different for you all since you're in the games space, but would any media fit this criteria for you? Thanks!

Graham Jones

You must replace each of the founding members of Minnmax with other cohorts who have play them and convince the audience that nothing out of the ordinary. Who plays Ben, Kyle, JeffM and Suriel?

Graham Jones

Ben, what is the best seltzer brand and flavor?

I literally just moved to Japan this past weekend— please say the first sentence that pops in your head so I can use to practice my translation skills into Japanese!

Hi MinnMax! How close to the end of a game have you gotten where you decided to just stop playing and why? I was going through Forza Horizon 6 and just got the 6th out of 7th wristband needed to "beat the game". However, it turned out the only way to get the final wristband was to beat tons of "optional" non-racing challenge that I had basically been ignoring up until then. 30 hours in and I decided I'm done without rolling credits.

Jacob Mazanowski

I’ve heard stories/rumors about Nintendo holding finished games for later releases. How often does MinnMax hold content before you release it and what is the longest you’ve ever held something? (Not including content under embargoes)

sandeezy

hi gang, no question, just a fun fact. the word “factoid” does not mean small fact, or at least it didn’t used to. it means a lie that is repeated so often that it becomes commonly believed as true.

Colin Luton

Hello cohorts, I have an activity for you I was recently thinking about newspaper comics strips and licenced video games and how with the exception of Garfield, there aren't that many games based on the Sunday funny pages, Here's the game; I'm gonna list some newspaper comic strips I grew up with and one by one I want you guys to come up with a genre of game for each to be adapted into, to make it a game let's say you can only use each genre once, so if you say choice based narrative adventure for the first one, you can't use that genre on any others. Apologies if some of these are regional, if you don't recognize it just skip it. Hagar the Horrible Denis the Menace Family Circus Cathy Zits Doonsbury Beetle Bailey Pearls before Swine For better or worse Bloom County The Far Side Blondie Prince Valient Calvin and Hobbs

What's your least favourite thing about your favourite game?

Jordan Rogers

The Looker is a (fantastic) parody game of The Witness, and I've seen brought up independently in multiple places the idea of an Austin Powers game during discussion around the 007 game. So, question: Are there any other parody games you can think of, or parody games you wish existed?

TekWriter

Hidey Ho, MinnMax! I was so happy when I saw the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave trailer because it meant a return to a world and tone that I loved back in Three Houses. I was not a fan of Engage (the previous FE game) and am hoping Fortunes Weave will be as good as, if not better than Three Houses. In a series a long as Fire Emblem, it is a given there will be great and no so great games, so my question (finally) is this: What game in an established series you love let you down the hardest?

Josh Lamm

Summer always reminds me of visiting the arcade while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. What were your favorite non-video-based arcade games? Mine was "Wacky Gator," that Whac-A-Mole with alligators game.

Titan

Hello! One of the common internet gamer desires you've no doubt seen on social media sites is for there to be more 7/10 games, which also sits alongside requests for AA games (something that's largely arbitrarily labeled on vibes). Do you feel there's a disparity in these requests and people's real intentions of interacting with them? I can name quite a few AA 7/10 games that have come out in the last several years, I can also see the same people making these requests scoff at games like Beast of Reincarnation for getting a meager 76 average score. Do people ACTUALLY want these, or is it just a nice idea?

Travis in Fargo

What’s the scariest video game that’s rated E (for everyone)?

Travis in Fargo

Which cohort would you want to cook dinner for and - maybe even - serenade you?

Sky Fellowship

Are the John Wick films the ultimate Video Game movies? Extremely loose plot that steadily grows through lore as opposed to exposition, constant travel to beautiful locations even when there's no real reason to travel, hell they even include back travelling at times, wacky weapons like pencils and playing cards, huge fight scenes coupled by boss fights, all to a banging sound track. Side characters who are sometimes on your team and sometimes not, with of course a main character who's murdered more men than Ghengis Khan at this point, yet do we see him as a bad guy like Walter White? Or just a guy who just wants to be left alone cause he's old, tired and grieving?

Rikimaru

Hiya MinnMax! The direct for Fire Emblem got me hyped. Three Houses was the last time I was really into Fire Emblem and that was 7 years ago! What is a series that took a dip for you personally but came back or has you excited again now?

Kenjamin

There’s been a lot of discussion on the problematic nature of calling games “friendslop”. This is hitting fever pitch with the release of Big Walk, and it having spent so much time in development compared to many of its counterparts. Perhaps this label is too sticky and simply too late to change. But nevertheless, my question is, what’s a more fitting and less derogative name for this genre? My suggestion: Hangout games

Ghoul's Fold

What’s your “Problematic Brand Picks”? For example, I would rather have Powerade than Gatorade, Red Vines than Twizzlers, and Pibb than Dr. Pepper.

In honour of Blank Check covering the resident evil movie franchise, what is the greatest video game movie franchise?

Hey minnmaximos! We get to play all these crazy sci fi planet settings in galaxies far far away, but which planet besides earth in the solar system would make the best videogame setting?

Hello JeffM and crew, So, Halo, Peaked at 25K on Steam, mixed steam reviews(and only 8K reviews), around 250K copies sold on Steam. Not even a GOTY candidate. What future? Halo 2 on PS5? XBOX starting to look a lot like SEGA

I hope this makes it, it's very fun

What is the best podcast question? P.S. I’ll be testing your answer by seeing if it wins Question of the Week. Good luck!

Hello hello Minnmaxers, With Xbox releasing or shutting down studios, I wanted to speculate on why DoubleFine was spared being shut down. Do you think its because they are one of the most vocal and transparent studios in the industry via 2 Player Productions? I mean, they do have an incredible visual presence with not just fans but anyone who wants to know more about games through insanely detailed documentaries. Two bits for your thoughts (inflation and global economic discord has increased prices from a penny) -Groffles

Hey cohorts! I've recently bought a car and discovered driving is very stressful. Something about changing lanes, figuring out how much space my car takes on every curve and dealing with other drivers just takes me out of my comfort zone. That said, I've found one thing that keeps me calm: listening to the MinnMax Show while driving. There's something about the whole " games, friends, and getting better" that makes me zeny. So, first of all: thank you! You've been keeping me from dying for the past month. Incidently: do you consider yourselves good drivers? Do you get tickets frequently?

BobaFets

Will GTA 6 be the last traditional GTA game ever made? Considering it took a rumored 2 billion and over a decade to make it seems not unlikely that it just lives on as a live service game
