Hey guys! What game do y’all currently have as your GOTY? PapaDrewBear from Richfield, MN

Adam Issa

Which game from 2020 that you have seen nothing from are you most excited for?

grimmfeather

Have you ever been the lone champion of a game for GOTY or for a Top 50 list? Alternatively, what's the strangest thing you've ever done to stay warm in the winter, or cool in the summer?

NikkiNSane

So, I have a running list of all games I've ever beaten, categorized by consoles from oldest to newest (and PC). I tried to convince a friend of mine to dig deep and remember all the games he had beaten to make his own list when he took issue with how my own list was made. If I played a game and beat it on multiple consoles, be it simple re-releases or 'remasters', I count it separately on my list as another game that I've beaten. I also count some games that don't really have 'ends' as being beaten, such as seeing the credits at the town tree in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or 'prestiging' in a multiplayer only shooter. He thinks that both of these are 'technicalities' and shouldn't be counted. Obviously, it's subjective, but I'm curious what your opinions are on what would or wouldn't "count" on a list of games beaten. P.S. - If you're curious, my current list is at 313 with repeat titles, and 294 without.

Hey Maximizers! I wanted to suggest a section of the podcast or discord dedicated to celebrating personal bests. Part of the launch of MinnMax is celebrating getting better and I think that encouraging people to hit personal milestones fits perfectly within your mission. It could be getting to a certain ranked level on Hearthstone or finally finishing a retro game that has been sitting on the backlog (if you believe in that sort of thing). I think that it could be called "high fives" or something like that. This is the first Patreon that I have supported and I am excited to see what you are all able to accomplish. Thanks, Brian from Oro Valley, AZ

Dunder

Hey MinnMax, Simple question: do you have a Halloween costume this year and if so, what is it? My 3 year old son is going as Captain America so I’ll be dressing up as Iron Man.

MessySketch

Hi there MinnMax crew. Gaming merchandise is everywhere. From shirts to life size props! I own these Titan Fall figures from ThreeZero, that are my favorite. They have great detail, lights and make me more attractive to females. Well, at least that's what they tell me. What is your favorite piece of gaming related merchandise that you own?

CANAS1AN

when you play Civilization which leader do you play as and what sort of victory do you prefer?

Supersnake

Hey guys! Congrats on the new show! What is the best and worst candy from a video game you could receive on Halloween?

KendrickLuck

Hey MinnMax crew, Just wanted to wish you guys good luck in your new venture! I've been a Game Informer fan for years and was crushed to see you guys get on hard times but I hope that with MinnMax you guys can grow to new heights. Excited for the years to come. -Kendrick

Saturn

What outdated game mechanic/trope do you dislike the most, and why is it the "lose all your gear for some reason partway through the game"?

Thom Blackburn

Do you plan to review multiple versions of Monopoly? They're all the same, right?

Bruce The Genetic Jackhammer Rando

Hey Minnmax crew, Minnmaxers, Minnmaxians however you self identify. I am all about that gaming lifestyle and keep up to date on almost all the news surrounding it, about two years ago I got into a disagreement with a mate who isn't into gaming at all, he claimed the PS5 was already out in China and it was coming to Australia later that year because he saw a picture of it on facebook and no matter what I said he stuck to his side of the argument. At one point I had to say "do you know who you're talking to?" as my obsession is well documented among my mates. Have any of you ever had such a ridiculous argument about gaming with someone who was 100% wrong and also not that knowledgeable on the subject?

Joe Zwak

Control, the outer worlds, astral chain. Is this the best year for new game IPs?

Krista Knudsen

I’m excited to see you all tackle tabletop games! I’ve seen a lot of board game content targeted towards “bringing people into the hobby.” Board game Youtubers often discusses crafting positive introductory experiences for other players. But I’ve rarely heard anyone pitch video games in quite the same way. What experiences do you have introducing video games as a hobby? Or maybe just introducing your favorite game series or genre?

Richard Tweedy

Hey, y'all, I recently finished Minit and really enjoyed it, partially because it wasn't any longer than it needed to be. With the recent release of the most recent Jackbox, it occurred to me that a similar collection of bite-size single-player games could be neat. Do you think this would be a good idea?

Nognaught

Hey gang, Double Fine's Seventh 'Day of the Devs' is underway and it got me thinking. Now that double fine is owned by Microsoft, it's still been able to run seemingly autonomously. That being said, do you think there's a future for the "Double Fine Presents" publishing line? My hope would be that it could become an indie label of Microsoft Game Studios, it would certainly help game pass if every month or two it had a wholely unique, exclusive game. Cheers, Max from Canberra, Aus

StillGotGame

Hey guys. Hope you are well. I've been a MinnMax fan since day one! Whilst there are some major releases planned on XBox & PS4 next year, there hasn't been much mention of potential new games coming to Switch (other than Animal Crossing). Do you guys have any insight into any possible games that should be on our radar? If not, do you have any predictions of possible titles? Realistically what are the chances of Breath of the Wild II or a new Mario being announced? Personally, I would be surprised if a new Mario v Rabbids doesn't appear.

Direful

Hello, Fellows! I'm so proud to see you guys out on your own in this big, wide world. I've been wondering: what are your perspectives on traditional journalism now that your in the "new media" space? Is it dying? Still alive? What do you miss the most about the institution you left, and what do you look forward to the most in the platform you're on now?

Piet van Rosmalen

Hi all! With Blizzard losing a big sponsor over their Hong Kong controversy, and with Blizzcon coming up this Friday, do you think Blizzard will be able to repair some of the damage? What do you think they need to do to? Cheers, Piet from Rotterdam, Netherlands (is there still a big board?)

Mark Polley

Is it wrong that my biggest recurring thought with the MinnMax show creation, is that maybe I can start getting my emails read on the Pod? But my real feedback - is lots of audio content please! I don't get much time to sit at a computer/youtube these days. But I will listen to you guys during my commute all week if possible. The sweet spot would be 7 hours of audio content per week :D

Bradley St Clair

Congrats guys on what your setting out to do. Loving the thought put into everything so far and excited to be on the journey with you! My question...what is the one single game each that you think you have the maximum amount of nostalgia for, to the extent it has taken a bad or average game but in your memory made it great. Mine is Extreme G 2 on the n64 (a wipeout clone of sorts) that blew me away at the time but on reflection just doesnt stack up, especially in gameplay!

Karl Ruben Weseth

Given that you've chosen to emphasise your location in the name of your new venture, I thought it would be fitting to ask a Minn-related question for your first podcast: To those of you who didn't grow up in the state, what is your favourite thing about Minnesota?

Robyn Jones

Hi Ben and The Boys. Robyn from Swansea, UK here. So glad you've all started on this collaborative content creating company. I'll be listening/watching every week as well as the GI guys. The GI Show has been my favourite podcast for a while now and this just means I get twice as much great sounds in my ears. I hope to ask/comment alot more here but for now just wanted to give you all best wishes and thoughts for the venture and to suggest a name for your thousands of fans. How does MinnMaxMates sound? Anyway cant wait for the weekly content and looking forward to seeing the studio all done up and ready to go. Thanks everyone x

Philip Sullivan

Hey Lads, Would you be interested in games for the MinnMax Show? I love podcast games, and am wondering if you would be keen for some?

Donnie

This is the first thing I’ve supported on Patreon and I am so excited for your plans! I appreciate that you intend to make a show that maintains an upbeat attitude, but that makes it tricky for me to figure out how to ask you about Fallout 76. Maybe you can find the humor in how a company with Bethesda’s reputation has gotten to where they are now? In less than a year? Haha?

Tim Lorow

I enjoyed the live stream of Dreams from this week, but I kept thinking “if I wanted a bunch of mediocre games, there are more free games on PC than I could possibly play out there”. How does Dreams justify its $30 price point? Or is dancing Joker worth it alone?

Dan Willey

Dan W. from Boston here! No doubt you've all stumbled across the popular Can You Pet The Dog Twitter account. Its surprising success has me thinking, are there are any details you find yourself obsessively looking for in games (destructible fruit, secrets behind waterfalls, etc.) that could make up a similar account? Personally, I now find myself instinctively looking for a way to increase text size, particularly in games like Outer Worlds and Control.

GreenMountainState

Hey Ben and the MinnMaxers, Lots of questions here so far! I don't know how you read through them all for selection and think that Andy M. will probably go crazy trying to do the same. Question: What are your thoughts on Microsoft's console upgrade program they just launched? As someone who is still rocking the day one Xbox One, is this a good move for me in the long run? I didn't read too much into the All Access program... Cheers

Zachary Pligge

What is y'all's most memorable game? Not top game or favorite game. But most memorable? The one game that comes to mind most often? Be it awesome/terrible memories. Moment from the game. Something going on in your life while playing the game.

Katrina Weixlmann

What is one area of "expertise," outside of gaming, that you would love to talk more about or that you would feel comfortable creating/sharing content around?

Andrew Cantillo

With Death Stranding, Dreams, and other PlayStation first party games now coming to PC in one way or another (like Xbox did before it) and the idea of "walled garden" platforms no longer being only possible through hardware, what reason is there to only make first party games available on ones own closed hardware? Nintendo is now the last console manufacturer keeping their first party games on their own hardware only and while that makes sense from a control standpoint, it's become more and more apparent that a platform holder would benefit much more from having their games anywhere they can have a player sign into their respective service on (Xbox Live, PSN, Steam, EA access, etc.).

Travis Manick

Hi cuties, As a new podcast on the scene full of veterans from another unnamed established podcast (we'll call it...Game Informer Snow), what are your expectations and thoughts around the inevitable comparisons to your previous work? Are you hoping to do more-or-less the same type of content but on your own? Is there any specific features or content types that you are excited to do now that you don't need it approved by a big bad boss man? Will there be SWEARS?! Looking forward to future of this group, Travis Manick Lino Lakes, MN

Bradley Bellman

With massive open world/games as a service becoming the norm in the past few years do you find it harder to keep up with all the big releases? Personally I find myself preferring smaller/more linear experiences nowadays because a lot of the large releases feel overwhelming and I know I won't have the time to experience everything they have to offer.

ARob

Hey guys! First off, I'm so happy to see everyone still together after recent events. I've been listening and watching your content for years and I'm really glad not only to be able to keep listening but to support you guys directly through patreon. Question: Every storytelling medium has its own unique qualities. Books allow the reader unmatched insight into the inner thoughts and feelings of their characters, movies can convey story and emotions densely and efficiently through cinematography and audio design, and television series benefit from long-form character development and world-building. In games, stories can be told through interaction and gameplay mechanics in a way that other media can't. What are your most memorable storytelling moments that could only exist because of the unique aspects of gaming as a medium? I always think of that section in The Last Guardian where Trico leaps to save the player character from guards, despite the stained-glass eyes. I think it shows just how much these characters have come to mean to each other by subverting established game mechanics. Thanks for creating MinnMax, I can't wait to see what you guys do next! - Adam PS: Would definitely fly to Minneapolis for a live GOTY debate.

Rob Brammeld

How can I as a Patreon supporter get the audio of the first deep dive episode ? Thanks in advance.

Tanner Hoisington

How does this compare already to the number of emails you got for the GI show? - Tanner from Charleston, SC

Mike Sweet

I was trying to think of a good question but I couldn't think of anything so I'll just ask what you had for breakfast this morning.

Cooper Murphy

Opinions on sex scenes in games? I'm playing the Witcher 3 on switch right now and dang I think they're so tacky!! They look like two chuck e. cheese animatronics boinking. Do you feel like this adds anything to the game or do you feel like its just in there to be *edgy*. - Cooper from LA

Chris Kochon

How difficult is it to slip up in videos and pods and say "GI" instead of "MinnMax"? It's become so second nature for you for the past 10 years I imagine you have to stop yourself sometimes.

Wes Bates

Hey MinnMax Crew, For your first podcast episode I thought I’d submit a fun game I call “Notable Quotables”. See if you can guess the game character from the following quotes. The first three are a bit tough. The final quote is a softball if you can’t get it from the first ones. Enjoy! ~Wes Bates, Woodland, CA 1. "Man… you guys are the best, stupidest group I could ask for." 2. "Well, everybody wears a mask deep within their heart." 3. "At the very least, I’m more admirable than some carnal blonde monkey!" 4. “Don’t call me a cat!” - Morgana (Persona 5) 1. “Fate is another lie told by the gods. Nothing is written that cannot be unwritten.” 2. “The cycle ends here. We must be better than this.” 3. “Dwarves are resourceful creatures. Annoying, but resourceful.” 4. “Boy!” - Kratos (God of War 2018) 1. “He who controls the battlefield, controls history” 2. “I’m just a man who’s good at what he does. Killing.” 3. “War has changed.” 4. “I’m no hero. Never was, never will be” - Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid Series) 1. “So, you want a piece of me, literally. Okay bro. Come and get it, if you can!” 2. “Flock off feather face! Or you can stick around and find out the hard way!” 3. “I should have saved you. I should’ve been the one to fill your dark soul with light!” 4. “Let’s rock, baby!” - Dante (Devil May Cry Series) 1. “Hee-hee… Nothing beats the sweet music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison!” 2. “Self-control is something for which I do not strive.” 3. “Son of a submariner. They’ll pay for this…” 4. “Life… Dreams… Hope… Where do they come from? And where do they go…? Such meaningless things… I’ll destroy them all!” - Kefka Palazzo (Final Fantasy VI) 1. “You know, all that ever mattered to me was loyalty? It was all I knew. It was all I ever believed in.” 2. “Just do one thing or the other. Don’t try to be two people at once…” 3. “We’re thieves in a world that don’t want us no more.” 4. “What is going on Dutch? What is happening to us, what’s happening to you?” - Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2) 1. “You really are fond of chatting with me aren’t you? If I didn’t know better, I’d think you had feelings for me! Oh, no. Dear me. Pretend you didn’t hear that! Hah hah hah!” 2. “This pleases me greatly! Well then, take this. We are amidst strange beings, in a strange land. The flow of time itself is convoluted; with heroes centuries old phasing in and out. The very fabric wavers, and relations shift and obscure.” 3. “…Ahh, it’s over… …My Sun… it’s setting… …It’s dark, so dark…” 4. “Praise the sun!” - Solaire of Astora (Dark Souls) 1. “I’m sure you boys didn’t just tag along so we can sing Kumbaya together at some boy scout bonfire. Then again, maybe you did.” 2. “Well I don’t really give a damn – rain or shine, you’re going down.” 3. “I don’t ever remember being a part of your crappy script.” 4. “Used to be a cop myself, only for a day though.” - Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil 4) 1. “Yeah, good luck pal, that’s almost impossible to – oh, you did it. Nice.” 2. “Oh no, it’s not that bad. Look, I have my own bucket!” 3. “Great, power’s out, and a girl’s trapped. I swear to God, if there’s a zombie around the next corner…” 4. “Nonononononono!” - Nathan Drake (Uncharted Series) 1. “We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one.” 2. “Unbelievable! You, Subject Name Here, must be the pride of Subject Hometown Here.” 3. “You’re not even going the right way. Where do you think you’re going? Because I don’t think you’re going where you think you’re going. Hello?” 4. “Okay. The test is over now. You win. Go back to the recovery annex. For your cake.” - GLaDOS (Portal)

Shubhankar Parijat

Let’s play a game! I will name some franchises that aren’t doing too hot right now, and you have to name a developer who would be a better fit for that franchise. When I say these franchises aren’t doing too well, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re NOT doing well. They could also just be dormant franchises, or just not have much of a presence in the video games space. The idea is to name developers that these franchises would be better off with than they are currently. Purely hypothetical, of course. So for example, I might say Castlevania, and you could say FromSoftware; I might say Mass Effect, and you could say CD Projekt RED. Let’s begin: 1. Star Fox 2. Burnout 3. Harry Potter 4. Game of Thrones 5. Silent Hill 6. Dead Space 7. Metal Gear Solid 8. Fallout 9. Deus Ex 10. Ninja Gaiden 11. Chrono 12. Suikoden 13. Jak and Daxter 14. Lord of the Rings 15. Star Wars (Fallen Order looks cool, but, you know… EA)

Nicholas Marrano

A friend of mine just passed away and I was recalling when he would go in my room and play red alert 2 on my computer while he waited for me to wake up. Do you guys have any gaming memories with family or friends that have passed away or you haven’t talked to in a long time that you’d like to share? Sincerely, Nick in Atlanta

Mitch

Hanson I didn't know you grew up on an asparagus farm! How upset were you when asparagus wasn't a crop in Stardew Valley?

Remy Bach

Ok, so hear me out... Back of the box trivia, but with random items from around Ben's house (not necessarily game related - kitchen items for example)!

william hittle

I'm not very tech savvy, so is there one place to check for updates, posts, videos, etc? If I just check the youtube page for recent videos, what would I miss? If I just bookmark the patreon page, will old content be locate-able without scrolling down through months of posts? If I'm logged in to discord, is there a user friendly page/channel with links to everything? Is that all going to be streamlined to a single website, or some kind of central location? Or do I just feverishly keep tabs on every individual outlet?

arcticsounds

Hearing all these reviews for Desth Stranding about being a Post apocalyptic mailman story has me heartbroken; since I already am one! By the way love the show and the length provides me about half a day of work which is awesome. Keep it up! Great Job Bennie and the Jets!

Sam Wright

Oh man, I thought finally I would get an email read and I get here and there are 154 comments/questions? LOL You guys are too popular.

Eric christensen

Hi guys! In reference to your "how to make a decent video essay etc" you mentioned the importance of music. To tie this in to games, I'd like to bring up an observation and a couple of questions closely related therein. First, the hot take. Most GREAT games (read GOTY candidates) require a great soundtrack. I would argue that a game CANNOT be great, or even GOOD if the music isn't memorable. In light of this, two questions: 1.) Do you agree that a games soundtrack is as important as gameplay or other factors, and is often overlooked as a major determinant of a quality game/experience? What is everyone's favorite video game track and/or composer? (Mine is the soundtrack from Raptor: Call of the Shadows - an amazing DOS game from ages past!) Thanks very much, Eric from Rochester, NY, not Minnesota.

Hey guys, Real boring question from a new dad and lifelong gamer. What were/are some of your favorite games to play with kids (yours or someone else's). Ours is only 3mo so still a ways to go, but I can't wait to get him into gaming. He seems to really enjoy watching me play Outer Worlds as a non-violent dum dum so far - I wish I could say the same about my wife. Congrats on the new adventure, happy to contribute. Nick from LA
