What’s going on Bennie and the Jets...love the new show and still support the GI show and the MinusMaximus Show...anywho...my questions for the week are as follows...what is the best trip for the GI show you went on? What are the top 5 most gaming moments of all time? How many of you think EA access is a complete SCAM...and finally...Will you be doing an email of the week? I have always wrote in to GI Show and never got featured so I guess I suck but love all of you guys and hope my email gets read on podcast as well as drink a beer with you guys when I visit Minneapolis sometime

Aidan Tatman

I was never able to actually get "shipped something nice", what were the prizes for winning the old GI best question?!? I've been dying to know for years

Hey minty Maxers! Now with The Outer Worlds released what do you think will happen to the Fallout franchise? TOW is probably what Fallout should be, they couldn’t do a better job with that! In hindsight, Fallout 76 was actually not such a bad idea. Going exactly in the other direction that is focusing on an open world, crafting, building etc and less on story (who would want that after Fallout 4 anyway) is maybe the right move? Just a shame that they didn’t double down on that game and instead made all the wrong choices.

During the last MinnMax show you talked about more Playstation titles releasing on PC. The most common take on this is, that Playstation does not see PC as direct competition, and that this will probably happen more often in the future future. I think the more likely scenario is, that nobody will buy a new Ps4 at the end of the life cycle. They can boost sales by also selling on PC AND they can show PC only gamers the quality of PS games to convince them to buy a PS5. I think this will slow down, and not speed up, after the PS5 is released. What do you think of this take? Thanks for all the great content and all the best from Aachen Germany

Terry Pierson

I’m pretty sure I like Sayonara Wild Hearts more than anybody else on earth. What game have you felt like you appreciate more than others and to an irrational degree? P.S. From St. Louis, MO (bring back the big board).

So, I was once in a game store, let's call it GameBlop for anonymity, and overheard a customer ask the employee for a suggestion on "a good real-time strategy game for the PS4 for my boyfriend". The employee then guided the customer to their game wall and pulled off XCOM 2 and convinced the customer that would be a good choice. I agree with the employee that XCOM 2 is a good game, but it's also blatantly a turn-based strategy game and not a real-time one. The customer re-iterated to the employee that her boyfriend didn't like games that take turns while he was pitching it to her but the employee insisted it was a good choice. Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to correct someone in their line of work? Did you do it, and what happened if you did? The obvious right answer would have been "There are no good RTS games on PS4." right? Nick Brewer from Searcy, Arkansas (I wonder if you remember how to pronounce my city's name.)

Just stopping by to let y‘all know I love your new show!

Wes Bates

Hey MinnMax Crew, On last week’s podcast during the Link’s Awakening discussion Ben mentioned that playing the remaster has had a negative impact on his feelings for what he once considered one of his favorite games. That got me thinking – I often choose not to replay games that I hold near and dear to my heart, for fear that they may not hold up to how I remember them and could ruin my perception of them as a whole. The Last of Us stands out as a good example of this and I haven’t gone back to it since my initial playthrough worrying it doesn’t stand the test of time. Does this ever happen to you? Do you ever actively avoid replaying games you hold in high regard to avoid tarnishing your memories of your initial playthrough? If so what games? Thanks and good luck with the new podcast! ~ Wes Bates, Woodland, CA

Wes Bates

Hey MinnMax Crew, What is your GOTY so far this year? Do you have any expectations for any other titles to possibly overtake your current GOTY? Thanks and congratulations on the new podcast! ~ Wes Bates, Woodland, CA

Hey MinnMax Crew, here’s a fun game I call “Notable Quotables”. See if you can guess the game character from the following quotes. The first three are a bit tough. The final quote is a softball if you can’t get it from the first ones. Enjoy! ~Wes Bates, Woodland, CA 1. "Man… you guys are the best, stupidest group I could ask for." 2. "Well, everybody wears a mask deep within their heart." 3. "At the very least, I’m more admirable than some carnal blonde monkey!" 4. “Don’t call me a cat!” - Morgana (Persona 5) 1. “Fate is another lie told by the gods. Nothing is written that cannot be unwritten.” 2. “The cycle ends here. We must be better than this.” 3. “Dwarves are resourceful creatures. Annoying, but resourceful.” 4. “Boy!” - Kratos (God of War 2018) 1. “He who controls the battlefield, controls history” 2. “I’m just a man who’s good at what he does. Killing.” 3. “War has changed.” 4. “I’m no hero. Never was, never will be” - Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid Series) 1. “So, you want a piece of me, literally. Okay bro. Come and get it, if you can!” 2. “Flock off feather face! Or you can stick around and find out the hard way!” 3. “I should have saved you. I should’ve been the one to fill your dark soul with light!” 4. “Let’s rock, baby!” - Dante (Devil May Cry Series) 1. “Hee-hee… Nothing beats the sweet music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison!” 2. “Self-control is something for which I do not strive.” 3. “Son of a submariner. They’ll pay for this…” 4. “Life… Dreams… Hope… Where do they come from? And where do they go…? Such meaningless things… I’ll destroy them all!” - Kefka Palazzo (Final Fantasy VI) 1. “You know, all that ever mattered to me was loyalty? It was all I knew. It was all I ever believed in.” 2. “Just do one thing or the other. Don’t try to be two people at once…” 3. “We’re thieves in a world that don’t want us no more.” 4. “What is going on Dutch? What is happening to us, what’s happening to you?” - Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2) 1. “You really are fond of chatting with me aren’t you? If I didn’t know better, I’d think you had feelings for me! Oh, no. Dear me. Pretend you didn’t hear that! Hah hah hah!” 2. “This pleases me greatly! Well then, take this. We are amidst strange beings, in a strange land. The flow of time itself is convoluted; with heroes centuries old phasing in and out. The very fabric wavers, and relations shift and obscure.” 3. “…Ahh, it’s over… …My Sun… it’s setting… …It’s dark, so dark…” 4. “Praise the sun!” - Solaire of Astora (Dark Souls) 1. “I’m sure you boys didn’t just tag along so we can sing Kumbaya together at some boy scout bonfire. Then again, maybe you did.” 2. “Well I don’t really give a damn – rain or shine, you’re going down.” 3. “I don’t ever remember being a part of your crappy script.” 4. “Used to be a cop myself, only for a day though.” - Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil 4) 1. “Yeah, good luck pal, that’s almost impossible to – oh, you did it. Nice.” 2. “Oh no, it’s not that bad. Look, I have my own bucket!” 3. “Great, power’s out, and a girl’s trapped. I swear to God, if there’s a zombie around the next corner…” 4. “Nonononononono!” - Nathan Drake (Uncharted Series) 1. “We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one.” 2. “Unbelievable! You, Subject Name Here, must be the pride of Subject Hometown Here.” 3. “You’re not even going the right way. Where do you think you’re going? Because I don’t think you’re going where you think you’re going. Hello?” 4. “Okay. The test is over now. You win. Go back to the recovery annex. For your cake.” - GLaDOS (Portal)

Mark Polley

Hi MinngleMaxers and Party Animals. Mark Polley from Cardiff here (Still shooting for that big board!) My 30th Birthday is coming up next week, and I am planning on throwing my first ever house party - and i'm a little anxious! I want to make it a gaming themed party, setting up a bunch of screens with consoles plugged in, and maybe have the demo reels running to draw people in - Im thinking Halo 3, THPS2 Horse Mode, Mario Kart, Jackbox etc. Going to put a few board games around the place too (Easy ones like Codenames, carcassonne) Do you have any experience hosting parties like these? How do you get people to break off and play games without feeling awkward? Or do you find it just naturally happens? Do you have any recommendations to throw a killer gaming themed patty?

Bruce The Genetic Jackhammer Rando

Hey Minnmax-ians! I got my first platinum trophy on PS4 last year in god of war and since then I have planned to platinum games that I hold in high regard. My most recent accomplishment is platinuming the Witcher 3 (my all time favourite game) and it took effort. I was just wondering if any of you care about trophies/achievements or at least have one that you're proud/semi proud of

Simon Milich

Hey Minn-ions! Just wondering what your thoughts are for the recent announcements at BlizzCon, specifically Diablo 4? It looks like the game will be a lot darker and more serious this time around. Do you think this is a good move forward for the series, and what else would you like to see before release? Thanks dudes.

Tyler Carver

Hey guys, I’ve been dabbling with Game Pass on PC and man is that service great! I’ve downloaded so many fantastic games to play for a freaking $1 for the first month. How is Microsoft able to do this and do you guys think it is sustainable for them to continue this trend into the next console generation? Thanks y’all,

Swiggity Swoo

Will there ever be another Ben Hanson and Jeff cork podcast? (He types as "girls not grey" by afi is playing in the background)

Austin M Jones

Hey guys this is Austin from Cleveland, you may remember me as one of MANY Zune owners that wrote in to GI. My zune has unfortunately passed on, but on that topic: is there any archaic or outmoded technology that any of you guys still swear by? Any body still rocking a ipod shuffle or flip phone with no internet? Thanks

Nick M

Are there any games, movies, tv shows etc. that stood out to you for being partially or entirely set in the town/state/region you're from? For example ***minor spoilers for late-game Breaking Bad*** but the entire New Hampshire story in the final season was mind-blowing for me and just about anyone else living in the state who was watching (which was just about everyone, remembering the hype level in the culture at the time). While it definitely wasn't the most action-packed storyline in that season and wasn't necessarily representative of MY New Hampshire experience, it was definitely cool to see my underrepresented home state play a part in one of the biggest shows of all time. Anything for you guys from where you grew up that made you point at a screen and say "hey, that's like me!" Nick, Newmarket NH (ps I've never understood the "NEW HAMPSHIRE???" thing Hanson does and at this point I'm not even sure I want to know)

Dan Willey

Hey guys! Curious to hear your thoughts on the Overwatch 2 business model. It seems the new game mode will be released as a standalone “sequel” but that certain improvements to visuals, UI, etc. will port backwards to Overwatch 1 PvP, which the studio will continue to support. In this day of living games, does it make sense to brand this new game mode as a sequel? If gamers pony up, could you see other developers taking a similar approach? What do you think this means for loot boxes?

Tyler Reinelt

Hello Minnmax crew! With the recent announcement of diablo 4 and overwatch 2 Im once again asking myself if its morally right for me to support a company that i believe has done something wrong. What are your feelings towards supporting bad companys that make good games and should the community consider a companys ethical standing when purchasing their games? Love what you are doing and keep up the fantastic work!

FlaminQueso

Hey Ben and the Former Informers (name?) Let's talk about Kyle (and Suriel's) streaming for a minute. When the layoffs happened, it was a great to see Kyle wanted to start a daily stream of off-beat and lesser known games. No surprise, he quickly found success, with regular viewership and gathered almost 1,000 followers. The stream is always enjoyable to watch and its been cool learning about these obscure games. But I have to say, the very best part has been Kyle's Twitch chat. The regulars, The Untitled Kyle Crew (UKC) as we call ourselves, are some of the very best people. They have all been very loyal, immediately supportive, subbing to the channel and giving out bits like crazy. The chat has been amazing to be a part of and I feel like these folks are my best buds. Untitled Kyle Crew!! Suriel started streaming a little after Kyle and its a repeat success story with a lot of the same UKC folks engaging and subbing on his channel. Shy Guy Squad as we sometime call ourselves. Of course, all the UKC folks are now part of the MinnMax community (M&M's?) following Kyle and the former Game Informer crew. Its been great to engage with the UKC folks on the Discord as well. Anyways, keep up the great work streaming y'all! I continue to look forward to it every day! Thanks, Greg (FlaminQueso) from Houston

Brand'n Byrd

You can only choose one. The other is erased from existence. The MGS 3 ladder climb or the MGS 4 microwave crawl. Which one do you choose?

Kyle G

Woo! 26,000-plus views on yesterday’s Luigi GOTY stream! Nice job fellas and MinnMax community.👍🏻

Kieran Robinson

What are some games you guys think are massively underrated and think deserve a second looking (twitch stream perhaps?) Thanks for the great content so far! Kieran from Birmingham, England

Dylan Sawyer

Hi Basement Dwellers. I thought it strange that on last week's Deep Dive for 'The Outer Worlds' you didn't mention how influenced it was by the much-loved 'Firefly' series. My question - if you could play a game based on a hitherto unused IP, what would it be? Thanks, Dylan

Bradley Bellman

Hi Ben and the Hansons! Are there any genres/sub-genres that you think are under-represented in the industry that you'd like to see make a comeback?

Brenton and Meriam

Hey, M and M’s! In the past Hanson has asked listeners to write in with their most obscure videogame trivia, and that got me thinking of all the educational videogames I used to play as a kid. Most of them were pretty run of the mill, but one stood out above the rest. An asthma edutainment videogame called Quest for the Code. All I remembered was a lot of multiple-choice questions, some point and click-esque pixel hunting, and a true or false segment in which some very obtuse FMV children asked if they could catch my asthma by playing sports with me. Also, Cuba Gooding Jr. After some light research and skimming through a very buggy playthrough on YouTube, it turns out this is a real gem. The game opens with Diane Sawyer giving an FMV news broadcast warning everyone that a villain name Mucus Airgon (voiced by Kelsey Grammer) is deploying a device that, when activated, will flood the world with asthma triggers. It is never revealed what asthmatic children did to deserve this. Cuba Gooding Jr then comes on screen, also in FMV, to tell the player that he has chosen them to hunt down Mucus Airgon’s “Evil 7”, each of which holds a piece of the code needed to shut down the device. Here are some of vocal talents you come across in doing so: Glenn Close, Minnie Driver, Whoopi Goldberg, Jeff Goldblum (who voiced Alex Dander the Flake), Funk Masterflex, Shaquille O’Neal, and Gwyneth Paltrow. I don’t know that there have ever been that many notable actors in a videogame that no one has heard of before! What the developers may have overlooked, however, is that the game was aimed toward children in the early 2000’s. I don’t think I was the only kid who had little to no idea who any of those people were, never mind recognizing their voices. I did recognize Cuba Gooding Jr. though, thanks to his appearance in the movie Snow Dogs. I’d imagine that these actors contributed their time free of charge, as the game was developed by a nonprofit and was available free of charge for any child with asthma. The same company made such games as Starbright Diabetes, Starbright Explorer, and Starbright Hospital Pals. I can only imagine they all fall into a similar territory as Quest for the Code. I’ve never heard anyone in the game industry mention this game, and I thought you guys might get a kick out of it. I definitely enjoyed the trip back down memory lane, and it’s pretty cool that so much effort went into helping kids without any thought of profit. Thanks for reading the email and keep up the good work, Brenton from New Hampshire

Nejin

Hey MinnMaxsters, have you ever been in the top 1% of a game?  I was in 3 Call of Dutys. Holy shit, I had no life. Kevin in West Hartford CT

Michael Thurber

Hey Ben, it was super fun hearing you go through the list of possible names you had for what would become MinnMax last week, but are you really telling us you never even considered calling your company founded by ex-GI staff Gamin’ Former? I know that probably has a million terrifying legal consequences but c’mon, Andy Mac would’ve probably been cool about it.

JimBoyMeBob

Howdy Neighbors, I've noticed there are some games that I prefer to play while the time of day in-game is night or day. For example, Animal Crossing, Dragon Quest, and the larger of legend of zelda games have Day/night themes, and I prefer the night themes. While other games like the fallout series and Red Dead 2 are too dark, so I prefer to rest in those games until morning. What are some games you prefer the in-game time to be night or morning? JimBoyMeBob from Milwaukee, WI

Robbie Adams

Simple question - can/should a game be eligible for GOTY discussions when half of reviewers hate it while the other half consider it Gods gift to the world? Shouldn't it be a indisputablely great game? I have a feeling Keely will give it to Kojima regardless, but what about other outlets?

Robbie Adams

(I get that it's not a 50/50 split, but I'm just making a point)

Gaimbrave

Hello boi's!!! Simple question, do you remember the first game you ever played? If so what was it? Mine was killer instinct for the SNES.

Bjorn Watland

Hey Benn with two n's, Bjorn from Saint Paul writes: What are you thoughts on motivation and backlogs? Humble Bundles, Steam Sales and an attempt to keep up with the latest releases, but not enough time in life to consume these games leads to backlogs. Old games are still great and there is a ton of value in previous console generations, but I find I have to challenge myself to get motivated to play games I've fully intended to play. Do you just let games expire on the road of progress? Gabba go fast!

Richard Tweedy

Hi all, is there a game, or even better a franchise, that you love but that you also think has a noticeable flaw? For me, I love the Zelda series, but I don't think they've ever gotten the economy right. Either you have enough rupees for what you need, in which case the economy doesn't matter, or you don't, in which case gathering the rupees you need is rarely fun.

Jawarhello

Hey Ben and the 2 N Crew,

Jawarhello

Hey Ben and the 2 N Crew! First of all, great work with Extra Life it was awesome to see the GI team back together again! My question is, when you start a new game (particularly RPGs), do you take time to familiarize yourself with the systems before playing or do you jump right in and learn as you go? I always read through any tutorial, codex, journal, etc, available to me in-game before starting any actual gameplay. It makes the game start slow for me but I find that it helps me build the character that I want right from the start.

Beardy Beerhammer

Hey Max! Have you ever initially HATED a game but stuck with it and eventually LOVED it? For me this was Morrowind. I didn't really understand RPG stat systems yet. The combat was trash. I knew zero Elderscrolls lore. I was new to literally everything and not doing well. My little Dark Elf was slow and weak and sucked at everything. It wasn't fun. I kept helping weirdo NPCs anyway, learning game systems and faction politics. I realized at some point "this game is amazing!" I guess it was my first open-world, stat-based RPG. I remember it fondly even though its painfully dated today. I even held on to the crappy old PC jewel case and Vvardenfel map since the early 2000s. I just can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Jonah Abraham

Hi Maxxers! What is a trend right now that seems totally poised to be the future of gaming, but will ultimately fizzle out? My best example of this would be the FMV craze of the 90s. Is it VR? Battle Royales? Shared World shooters? What’s something that won’t be around in five years?

Robyn Jones

Hello people. I'm so excited for MinnMax. Like Constantly. Anyway I noticed advertising for Death Stranding the at it was 'from the creator of metal gear solid'. This seems a bit redundant to me because if you're a fan of Metal gear solid you probably already know one or both of two things. The creator is Hideo Kojima and what he's known for. I don't think this needs explaining. I'm I thinking too hard on it? Or are fans of metal gear solid not as niche as I think. Aldo wondering how you're all going to pronounce niche so hoping you read this out loud. Best wishes all.

Christopher Hirawady

Hey guys. Have you had any experience with games that are so close to what you think would be the perfect game for you, but that it falls a disappointingly short distance away from it? Recently for me that game was pokemon let’s go. That game has just about anything a nostalgia hound like me could want from a pokemon game (first gen pokemon exclusively, you can battle red, blue, and green, etc2) but the pokemon go influence really rubbed me the wrong way. That pokemon game, more than any other, made me sad because of how close it was to being a game tailored especially for me. Hope the question was clear enough for You guys. -Christopher from Jakarta, Indonesia-

hedar altememee

Hey Guys. Congratulations on launching MinnMax and getting some of the best people in the industry to work here. my question is: how do you think the next gen consoles will differ from each other? will it be services, game genres, or just the UI? - Haider Kuwait

Jeeo Banogy

Hey Ho There MinnMax Crew! So I was recently thinking about the new Final Fantasy VII Remake and how it was going to come out in different parts. Immediately, it made the think of the DotHack series! It was an action RPG series set in a simulated virtual-MMORPG where you played the game trying to resolve glitches that ended up harming the people playing the game. This series was one of my first experiences where you could carry over save data from game to game, kinda like how you could carry your commander Shepard through the Mass Effect Series (only the series didn't go through crazy changes, so items and levels were brought over too!). I thought it was super impressive that games could reach through time and take progress and characters that I had made into the next iteration of the series! So I wonder if the new FInal Fantasy VII will work similarly? It would really be nice if the party that I worked to create wouldn't just reset with new item, levels, skills, etc. What do you guys think? Would you want those things to carry over? Or whenever part II rolls around in 2030, would you want a fresh party? - Athan-Jeed (AJ) Bandoy from Bensalem, PA

StillGotGame

Quick query. Most games have review embargoes but is there an embargo on when you are allowed to disclose the embargo date? Sometimes we hear that a review will be available from a specific date and time but other times there is radio silence until the review is up. Is this simply because a review copy hasn't been received until the last minute or is there more to it?

Aaron Bivens

What is a genre or game you will never play, but love to watch being played? Mine is probably the Metal Gear series, they are totally a hoot to watch, but I doubt I'll ever go back and play them.

Justin Griffiths

Hey Ben and the 2 N crew! What's the most interesting feature of a game that you saw in a preview build, but was cut before the game released?

tbeeks15

Howdy fellas! I just finished up Link's Awakening a couple days ago, and what a jolly little game! However, this got me thinking about the future of 2D Zeldas. Do you think they will ever do an origianl 2D Zelda again or just use that game style for remastering the classics? The oracle games are a common request among fans so I could see that happening but I hope to see an original 2D game because A Link Between Worlds was exceptional. I would love to hear what you guys think! Happy for your guys' successful launch! Love & Respect! -Beeks from Grand Rapids, Michigan

Piet van Rosmalen

Ben! You were saying that you want to keep the podcast fun and positive. I’m all for the jolly vibes (to use EA terms) but what do you mean exactly by it? I hope you guys remain critical and also discuss the darker sides of the industry like crunch etc. Cheers! Piet from Rotterdam, Netherlands

Nick Wright

Nick Wright from Moberly MO here! (that's Missouri!) What's your favorite franchise that got left behind. for me it is "Eternal Darkness". the way it jacked with the player was absolutely amazing and i thought the idea of revisiting the same locations throughout the centuries was really novel as well. i'm still holding out on a PS5 reboot!!!

Jason

Hey everyone! Great stuff coming out of this channel. I went to Jacob Geller’s channel after I saw your interview with him. I enjoyed his discussions of architecture in Mirror’s Edge and of faith in SOTC. But...and I say this as a 33 year old man. I was crying by the end of his Mario Galaxy vid. He’s clearly a genius when it comes to video essays. But at GI, he was nothing but a name on a web page. Are there ways that independent providers and interviewers can open up insights into creativity that bigger companies either won’t or can’t?

Dbrg13

Hey guys! Is there a game you are always nostalgic for at a certain time of year? For me I always go back and play New Super Mario Bros during the winter. It brings back old memories of ski trips with my family where we spent most of our time gaming in a cabin. Keep up the sweet content! :)
