I cannot think of another game I have so desperately wanted to get into, and yet be unable to, than Outer Wilds. I think it's a work of staggering ambition and creativity, with a truly ingenious Swiss clock of a galaxy to explore on carefully-timed intervals. That said, I couldn't hang with it. The depth of the puzzles was just beyond me. I watched every minute of a Youtube playthrough of the game, though, constantly in awe... and constantly aware that there's no chance in Hell that I'd ever have figured some of that late-game stuff out. Do any of you fellows have a game like this, that you're forced to merely admire from afar?

Hello, MinnMaxers. I've had this thought roiling around in my head ever since Death Stranding dropped. But since this is probably nonsense given that I initially thought about this first in the shower, feel free to disregard. Regardless, here's my question to the experts in Kojima and all things Kojima related. Is Death Stranding just a really bloated version of Shadow of the Colossus? You've got large swaths of land to traverse with little to no interaction. You've got big "monsters" to "fight". And you've got a narrative that you have to draw conclusions about at the end of the game. Anywho, keep up the great job. P.S. Have Suriel munch on these next. https://shop.paqui.com/haunted-ghost-pepper-7-oz/p/paq-002621&c=paqui@tortillachips P.P.S. They're really not that hot, but I think I'm a freak when it comes to spicy things.

Hello MinnMax crew, I have a game for you. I am going to list off the names of different locations and you have to guess what game it’s from. I hope it’s difficult enough for you 1. Armadillo (Red Dead Redemption) 2. Rocket Town (Final Fantasy 7) 3. Radiant Garden (Kingdom Hearts 2) 4. High Hrothgar (Skyrim) 5. Kara Kara Bazaar (Breath of the Wild) 6. Kaer Morhen (The Witcher 3) 7. Pacifidlog Town (Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire) 8. Anor Londo (Dark Souls) 9. Sniflheim (Dragon Quest 11) 10. Onett (Earthbound)

What Indy developer do you want to do their take on a giant franchise? For me it’s Celeste developer Matt Makes Games/MiniBoss making a true 2D, sprite based Mario game. Mario maker has proved people will stream the hell out of a masocore Mario game, so it’s begging to be made.

Elliot Tawns

hey fellas. With Halo as a series coming back into the limelight with its release on PC, do you think it could have a resurgence that brings the franchise back to the forefront similar to the halo 3 days? Many fans of the series gave up after halo 3 as they thought the pure essence and soul of the game had gone. Others like me have always loved the game and for me its all perfect and i hope it reaches its max potential again. Do you think it will? Do you think there are any other games that could have a reemergence? Anthem2.0 etc P.S Keep up the good work. You're podcast is the thing i look forward to every Friday (Australia time)

Enough of this GOTY talk, what are a couple of your favorite films of the year?

Adam

First time, long time. I have been reading about games since I picked up GamePro # 1 for free at my Toy's R' Us check out line. Remember when games were a "mixed bag" or had "fans of the genre rejoicing"? What are some of today's writing (or descriptive) cliches that need to be put to rest?

I've heard the subject come up across various podcasts lately about losing saves, or otherwise having to replay content in a game, and how that makes some people quit the game forever. It makes me wonder, if we don't want to play it again, was it ever fun in the first place? Games like Diablo or Destiny are built on doing the same stuff over and over, because of both the carrot on a stick, as well as fun and engaging gameplay. Folks will replay RPGs fully knowing the story, or get all the stars in a Mario game they've already beaten once. But some games, the idea of doing something again, or that "Ugh, I hate this stage" feeling creeps in. How often are we playing through games not because they are enjoyable game experiences, but because we just want to see the next story beat or maybe unlock an achievement? Why do we keep going? Should we take a moment during a game to consider, "If I lost my save, would I really want to keep playing this game?". How many questions is John really going to keep cramming into this already way too long post? Should he just trust Hanson to cut this down, and believe that he gets the essence of my thoughts here? Why is my dog barking at me? She already went out. (Alright, I'm done. Sorry.)

Hi twonners (I don't love that either). The first episode I ever heard of the Game Informer show was Ben's second to last episode. Before Ben's last episode I went back and listened to some of the backlog and when that last episode came out I was really bummed because I liked the vibe. Happy to have found this and good for you all to step out and try something bold. During MinnFaq you discussed community engagement being lower than you expected. Thought you might be interested in someone who hasn't been too involved yet. I'm new to Patreon and Discord and have generally been a lurker in any internet community I've felt connected to. I think there's an intimidation factor with new apps/websites. It might be worth doing a one off on youtube taking people around and talking through what's going on where. The hardcore people will just skip over it, but it might increase engagement for your fans who just haven't kept up on every new thing. Unrelated: the movie podcast should be called CineMinn, or not. I'm not the boss of you.

Braden Summers

Hey guys, what was the hardest decision you've had to make in a game?

Sophie

Last week Trevor wrote in asking about a time when you forgot or neglected to use a game mechanic, making the game difficult or frustrating. Here's my example ... I got stuck and just could not defeat the final boss of Kingdom Hearts 3. It's a looong, multi staged fight that took like 20 minutes every run and I kept failing during the ending section where you can't use your healing ability for some time. I spent HOURS trying to beat it. Cut to a few weeks later at GDC, I met up with a friend who happened to be a developer on the game, and told him about my struggle. He asked if I had upgraded my keyblade. ...I had no idea you could even do that!!!! I played the entire game without interacting with that system at all. So I went home, upgraded the keyblade, and beat the boss immediately. But boy did I feel dumb. :\ ~ Sophie from Boston

Hello Minny Maxy Boys, The last Minnmax Show was one of the best I have listened to, possibly because of the soundtracks but that got me thinking. I don't play a huge variety of games due to time/ moolah restrictions and without you all coming up with a list of tracks from games you all have played I wouldn't have heard them otherwise. Could a soundtrack of the week be something you all be interested in sharing on the show? Hope you all enjoy the holiday season love from New Mexico

Chad Provencher

With the current zombie trend hopefully at and end, any predictions on what the next big trend in games will be?

Potato-smash7

Have you ever noticed how much yourself or others use the word "like" nowadays? People today like throw it in so much unnecessarily. Like they seem to like not be able to like not say it. They don't even notice it. You get my point. Am I the only one who has noticed this? Are people's speaking and vocab getting worse with time? Thanks, Bill

Cory S

Do you ever really like reading the story in a video game? I love reading books (as well as gaming) but I often find reading exposition or backstory in a game feels clunky. I typically appreciate the effort to expand the world and story, but by the time my eyes adjust and my brain is zoned in to reading the excerpt, it's over and back to gameplay. Is it just me or do any of you share that?

Pearse

What's up M annd M's? (yup...that's terrible.) I'm really enjoying the show so far. After the talk about Patreon subscribers who are lurking in the background and don't contribute questions I thought I'd pop in and add something. Which of the following games would you all be more interested in playing: A Jonathan Blow produced Turok game or a Witness-style puzzle game taking place entirely in Dan Tack's mind? I don't know either of those people but I think they would both turn out eerily similar. Thanks - Pearse from Boston.

Hey MinnMax, what all cars do you drive? What do you love and hate about them? What would you want your next car to be? Just morbidly curious since I work in the auto industry as an engineer for seat and interior design quality for an oem. All of the content has been great and I can’t wait for my minnmax merch to come in! Glad you guys shared the tweet or I would have totally missed you putting merch it.

Leafeonn (Josh K)

Whaddup Twonns, Shovel Knight's final stages approaches!! Shovel Showdown and King of Cards come out on Dec. 10th! The studio just put up job listings as well for positions on a "3D team". What kind of game do you guys might think it could entail? What kind of 3D game would you guys expect from Yacht Club? Is a rare platformer too predictable?

Dave Yannetty

Hey there Minntenbros, if you’re anything like me, you spend a lot of time playing video games and wondering “is that character a good kisser?” I’ve listed 7 characters below whose kissing credentials I have strong opinions on. Please discuss: 1. Solid Snake 2. Claire Redfield 3. Luigi 4. Ms. Pac-Man 5. Kratos 6. Princess Zelda (Any version over the age of consent) 7. John Marston XxxXXxxxx, -Dave

I'm currently working my way through the archive of GI's Extra Life stream to see what I missed. Ben, can you tell your side of the "Carrie Hanson" story?

B M

Hey guys, Purchased "Just One" and had some friends over to play. Unfortunately, when playing as a unified group there's really no stakes, no winners no losers. We changed up the rules slightly, 45 second time limit per round, 10 rounds, and we have to win 8 of 10. Before the round we would find someone completely random on Venmo and if we hit 8 out of 10 rounds we would all donate a dollar to them. It had us yelling and chanting random peoples names and it was hysterical thinking of people randomly receiving 1 dollar from 9 different people who they've never met. Cant wait to play again.

Mike Vogt

You read a lot these days about how a given game would make a great Switch port. Are there any specific qualities that make a game a good fit for the Switch, or did Nintendo just tap into a new, fun way to play video games? Are there any games that, barring any hardware shortcomings, would make a bad Switch title?

Merlin Price

Good evening from Australia MinnMax wielding maniacs., Your most recent video, Ape Out, mentions it was co-created by Bennett Foddy. I feel like this man has contributes such a rare uniqueness to the game industry over his career. My question for you and your cracker jack team of investigative gaming enthusiasts is this: Which specific game director/designers are you most curious/interested about or interested in seeing more from in 2020 or beyond and why? also, what was the game that made that made you first remember their names? Chrz for all the hard work and variety you bring to the gamescape. Under an orange moon, all fat and festive, Merlin Price.

Hey fellas, I got a question for ya; a real thinker, the question to many -if not all- of life's great mysteries... Why is Tetris 99 being snubbed in goty discussions, I haven't seen it anywhere, is this some industry conspiracy against what is clearly the best game of the year??

Hans Kleinenberg

Hiya! Patrice Désilets recently said that one of the reasons Ancestors reviewed so badly, was that some reviewers didn't actually play the game. They – the reviewers – even went as far a making stuff up that wasn't in the game, he said, with one example being a reviewer saying that he enjoyed "riding a horse" with no horses actually in the game. Do you think this happens a lot in the industry and should reviewers be called out for it, or would it simply amount to too many people because it's so commonplace? Maybe the reviewer made a joke about Caesar in the "Apes-trilogy" and it went over Patrice's head. No idea, but I think reviewers should definitely be called out for making stuff up, because it has an effect on the success of someone else's work and the reputation of the outlet you work for, to name but a few. Would love to hear your thoughts. Best, Hans

Hey guys, this is something I've actually been thinking a lot about recently as I'm doing a little blog post regarding it. The topic is what are some of the biggest fails of the decade in the video games industry. My head jumps straight to that E3 reveal of the xbox one, set the tone for this whole generation I personally believe. What are some other big ones? What kind of effect did they have or will have on the industry? Best, Acornhead Gaming

MickManga

MickManga from Maine. I just wanted to say I loved the thankful episode. Anyway as a question if you were a gym leader, what type of pokemon would you use?

Jordan Shaffer

Hi everyone! I just played all of Life is Strange 2 over the last few nights and that game absolutely crushed me. I teared up at one point or another in every episode and was balling for the last 20 minutes of episode 5. No game has ever come close to hitting me this hard, so I was wondering what game gave you the most emotional reaction? Could be happy or sad or hyped or whatever. P.S. Please someone else play this game, I feel like people don't even know it exists, and it's easily my game of the year (and it's on game pass!). -- Jordan from Fairfax, VA

Brady Easter

Hey M and M's, So glad you all are still making content and I love your commitment to building such a positive community. You guys are the absolute best. Anyway, a lot of us know the games or genres you all really love, but what are the ones that just aren't your cup of tea? What descriptors that, when used to describe a game, let you know immediately it's not for you? For example, if a game is described as a "turn-based, procedurally-generated roguelite," that's 3 big strikes for me. I'm out. Again, thanks for all the content you put out. It's incredible. (P.s. Please tell Kyle thanks for the recommendation. Iconoclasts was great!)

Chris Kochon

Just wanted to say thanks to JeffM and team for the suggestion on Just One. My friends got together this weekend and it was quite possibly the most fun we've ever had playing a game. We played for hours and as we kept playing more and more we were so inside each other's heads that it was impossible for us to get through a round without bursting into laughter.

Nejin

Hey guys, you're officially through your first month! What lessons has this month taught you? What weren't you prepared for? What were you prepared for?

Travis Manick

Hi Friennds, In the year 2021, where do you think or hope MinnMax will be? Will the discord still be trying to come up with pun-based names for everything? What percent of your followers will be aware of your history with Game Informer? How many insects will you have to kill in the studio each week?

GreenMountainState

Hey Team, Found this interesting article today about how PS2 and PS3 consoles were used to build supercomputers for science research. Seems like there was a sweet spot for a handful of years where these consoles were cheaper options for building out a cluster. Here's the link, thought y'all might be interested! https://www.theverge.com/2019/12/3/20984028/playstation-supercomputer-ps3-umass-dartmouth-astrophysics-25th-anniversary If there must be a question: Got me thinking about other technologies being used outside their intended purpose. What are some game examples of this concept? Probably a weapon that was not intended to be a weapon?

Shaun Handschuh

Hey crew, loving everything you guys have been putting out! I'm personally really looking forward to the tabletop coverage and was wondering if any of you have heard of or played Twilight Imperium 4th edition and what it would take to get you guys to play that for a segment. I'm also wondering if there has been any talk of trying to visit Fantasy Flight Games (makers of Twilight Imperium) since they are located in Minneapolis? Keep up the great work!

Dunder

Hey MinnMax Crew, What’s the best vacation you have ever taken? I visited Banff last summer and was blown away by the beautiful wilderness. Justin in Alexandria, MN

Steven Lambson

Steve From The Four Corners Area Hey Minn-Os I just purchased a VR headset (Samsung Odyssey +) for myself as a Christmas gift. I plan on getting Beat Saber, but what else should I get?

Adam Meran

Hey gang, I was curious what's your typical gaming posture and if that changes depending on the type of game or level of challenge. I typically play leaned back with a foot or two up on my coffee table. I somehow have gotten comfortable enough to play this way even if I'm in a somewhat tense scenario like playing Apex or other online competitive games, though I'll still do the ol' forward hunch if things are getting really hairy. Back in the wii days I'd often play leaned back with my arms behind my head for optimal comfort, since the controller allowed for it. Thanks, Adam from Salem, NH

Jake Z

Hey guys, What's your most played game of the decade? Mine is Rocket League. I've probably played it 500+ hours. Thanks!

Yarrow

Hey friends! What is one mechanic in video games that you wish more games would implement?

Thom Blackburn

Do you have a favorite games journalist/content creator/critic/whatever they prefer to be called?

Keaton

Hi guys, Ben has stated in past shows that he's a big fan of Easy Allies. Kyle Bosman recently wore a MinnMax shirt on an episode of their podcast and it makes me happy to see some of my favorite content creators showing love for each other. Have there been any discussions on possible collaborations with them or is that something you would even like to do?

Andrew Cantillo

Hey Minnions, are there any plans to podcast (or even record video) of Minn Max GOTY deliberations?

Thomas

Hay buds, I recently was reminded that Shin Megami Tensei was a series and remembered that SMT5 was announced around the announcement of the switch. The official websight hasn't really changed sence. Do you think it might be a dead or shelved project? What are some games that where announced that seem to have just dissapeard or never got an update that you where excited for? Are you still holding out that it might still be a thing? I know I'm still excited.

Mark Cruz

Hello, easy question non game related to mix it up. I recently moved from California to New York, Can you give me some tips for winter? To give some Perspective on my level for cold weather (novice) a few days ago I saw snow for the first time. Thanks.

Weazl

Simple question:. Buy me a Cybertruck! Ok, that is not a question. The End.

Tommy D

Hello "2Ns" (its pronounced toons) My Q: EVE Online released May 6, 2003... It will never make any GOTY lists but its still living on. How do the older MMOs survive in the this age of live serivce games and do you ever indulge in some older games that still keep on keeping on?

Blake Kibby

Hi MinnMen. I’m listening to your Best Games of the Decade episode, and I’m wondering - for someone like myself who hasn’t played a “modern game” in more than a decade (we don’t have to talk about it), what is the one game that you would most regret having never played?

Styster

What's up, MinnMaxians? With the final installment of the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove coming out this week, what are your guys' thoughts on the series as a whole? Personally, I find it incredible that Yacht Club games went above and beyond and released what is essentially 4 complete games for the price of one. Yet, I don't often hear the gaming media talk about how them. Are these games being overlooked as DLC, or am I just missing all the chatter on them?

Blake Kibby

If you could choose one game that you could continue to play, but doing so would prevent you from playing all past and future games from that studio, which game would you choose?
