Hey guys, With the news that MLB: The Show is coming to other consoles, we're getting another round of pundits saying, "This is an obvious move. Sony has been closed off for far too long. Now more players get to play and Sony makes more money!" First off, it's impossible to know whether Sony will make more money since this may hurt console sales and Sony probably makes most of their money from the 30% cut they get for all games sold on their console. Second, why doesn't Nintendo get more flack for continuing to be closed off in terms of exclusives? Nintendo is probably the most exclusive-focused. Thanks, love the show!

DrVaider

Howdy guys! What creature from a video game would be the worst thing to bring into the real world?

wittynicknamehere .

Since this is mathematically my last chance to belabor the point and make mountains from molehills, I ask you gentlemen this: even though he would NEVER admit it, what do you think are the odds that Geoff Keighley is DESPERATELY hoping Death Stranding DOESN'T win at the Game Awards this week, just to head off the unwanted controversy? A lot of heat comes off of him immediately, if it goes to Control or something...

Dakota Salmeron

What's up MinnMax Crew? Dakota Salmeron here. Since we're all about positivity here, regardless of recent circumstances. I want to know everyone's proudest moment in their careers thus far. Anything you're especially proud of writing/ producing regardless of its exposure or how well it was received? As always, great job guys!

Many games these days are very long, and people usually only plays the starting part of it before judging the whole game. And often games' quality drops or raises in later parts, many players will never know, like the Outer Worlds, Astral Chains and Days Gone. So should critics put a game on their game of the year lists without finishing the game? And if there is a 'best game if you only play the first 2 hours' award, which is a normal length for a movie, what game should be awarded this year?

Tim Lorow

Hi Ben and his computer-loving cohorts! Keep up the good work on that internet podcast!

Hey gang, thanks for all the great content so far. Loving everything My question is... Based on what we know/can guess/speculate, if you to choose only one platform now for next gen, would you choose PS or Xbox? Take into account hardware, online infrastructure, services and, (most importantly), exclusives. The only thing not to consider is what platform your friends will be playing. Assume they will come with you. Feel free to edit the question as needed. I’m pretty torn as I plan to choose one due to a very busy schedule. Would love your thoughts. -Rob from Long Island

How does “game of the year” work in your brain. Like, is it tied to the year? My problem- the most fun I had with a game this year is Shovel Knight on the Switch. It’s my game of the year (and one of the best games I’ve ever played!). So is it my 2019 game of the year or is it my 2014 game of the year? Have you ever played a favorite game “late” and thought “man I would totally change my ranking for 20xx”? Thanks and byyyyyyeeeeeee

Nick Reed

Has anyone used Minnstrels yet? Anyway, PAX Unplugged was this past weekend and now that you all aren't tied to video-game-only functions, would you ever consider traveling to a board game convention? Has anyone been to anything similar, like GenCon?

Brett Yanoski

Piggy backing off what Rob said above, I’m curious your thoughts on next gen consoles. With streaming showing more or less its worth next year and all the subscription services we have currently...what are the standout features you expect Xbox and PlayStation to rely on for their consoles? I’m concerned graphics are so good now, it’s harder to sell “revolutionary graphics”. They promised fast, almost non-existent load times but I’m worried about what could be the set of features that will make us rush out and buy it? Will PlayStation embrace PS Now more for next gen? Maybe we’ll see some advanced applications of machine learning in games? Thanks! -Brett from Fort Worth

Minn max is getting 10k ish views per pod at 10k subs while game informer gets similar 10k ish per video podcast with...600k subs! Congrats, those are very encouraging early numbers.

Howdy Folks! Just thinking about something pretty simple. How long does it take for you to lose enthusiasm for an upcoming game? I feel like I've been waiting an eternity for Mount & Blade II, Bannerlord to come out. Earlier this year I felt super pumped for it to come out, and was excited each time I found a new developer blog detailing another feature of the game. But now, when I see those crop up in my feeds, I just feel kinda drained. Well, I hope it does come out eventually and wow my anyways! Thanks for the hours of entertainment on my drives around, hope you guys enjoy the holidays!

MouseRat

OK, so I have a game for you guys. The question is, Did the following 90's movies have a licensed video game made for them? Speed - NO Men in Black - YES (PS1) Wayne's World - YES (NES, SNES, Genesis) Face/Off - NO Days of Thunder - YES (PC, NES, Game Boy) Goodfellas - NO The Rock - NO Cliffhanger - YES (Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, NES, Game Boy) Point Break - NO Total Recall - YES (NES) The Fifth Element - YES (PS1, PC)

Hello MinnMaxers! Story time! Last Christmas, my lovely wife bought me Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I have been an AC fan from the start, am way into Ubisoft's open worlds and loved AC Origins, Needless to say I loved the game--150 hours, all question marks done, platinum trophy, the whole 9 yards. Fast forward to this past Black Friday and the DLC was on sale. I snatched it up and, after finishing Gears 5, downloaded everything. However, after 3 days of downloading, deleting, restarting, authenticating and redownloading, I could not get the DLC to work. After tweeting with PlayStation Support, that's when I noticed the rating for the game--PEGI 18. This is weird because that's a European rating for a game and I live in Edmond, OK (God's country?). Turns out Amazon accidentally shipped my wife a region 2 copy of the game, and although you can play a disc from any region on your PS4, DLC from different regions won't be compatible. Long story short, there doesn't seem to be any way for me play the DLC without spending at least $40 more and playing the entire game over again. As a dad of 3, that's both time and money that I don't have. Looks like I'm just out the money I spent on the DLC. Lesson learned, right? So here's my question for you: To make me feel better about mine, what's your biggest game-related heartbreak? Lost saves, dying at crucial moments, parents selling stuff off in garage sales, whatever it is. Just make me feel better! Thanks for all the content. You guys are the best!

One One

Followed you guys from game informer, enjoying the new shows. Hope everything is going well with MinnMax. I havent started my own business, but it reminds me of Mad Men. I would be curious to hear more about the adventure of starting MinnMax and how its all going.

Eric Seal

What was your first M-rated game? Why was it M-rated? Mine had to be Myth: The Fallen Lords by some hack developer named Bungie or whatever. But I have to give a special shout-out to Unreal Tournament for making my dad utter the phrase: "'Bloodsport of the future,' huh?"

Thomas Hoster

Hey Minnmax, have VR on the mind due to today’s big release for the Vr community. You all seemed decently interested in half life Alyx, but have you seen Boneworks. Came out today and in my opinion is massive step for VR. Many rumors that early in the project there was some interactions between boneworks devs and valve. The game is awesome and really does have a very valve vibe. That portal/half-life vibe for sure. The interactions are crazy. Anything you think you can pick up you can. The puzzles are fun and remind a lot of half-life and portal in that respect as well. Do you think any of you will give it a try? Here’s a link to the launch trailer. https://youtu.be/oP8C2nmv3Ag

Duderado

Greetings Minnsters, what's your split like between singleplayer and multiplayer games? Do you generally prefer one over the other? Is it different when you're actively reviewing or covering certain games? Suriel has referenced a ton of singleplayer games alongside his healthy obsession with DOTA 2; whereas I feel like I rarely have time to play singleplayer games as most of my time is spent on multiplayer titles like WoW Classic or a FPS like PUBG. My split every year is probably 80/20.

Nognaught

Heya Hanson and the handsome bunch, what, do you think, is the most important aspect of a game for it to stand the test of time. I originally would have said the art style, because of games like wind waker and borderlands which still look stunning today. But I've recently been playing through the metro games and, even though it doesn't look that great, the lighting goes so far to immerse yourself in the world and makes stealth sequences incredibly suspenseful - in spite of aged gameplay. Have any of you found something similar that makes going through your backlog a little easier?

Patrick Polk

For me, one of the highlights of each year of your podcast (both at GI and now MinnMax) is when you do your best video game music of the year. I love getting exposed to soundtracks I might not have otherwise heard, and Emily Reese was an amazing guest. I was thinking, wouldn't it be fun to combine that with your Best Game of the Decade debate by deciding the Best Game Soundtracks of the Decade? I realize this is actually a tremendous amount of work and might be even MORE challenging to do than putting together the Best Game of the Decade, because you probably don't have best soundtrack lists for each of the past ten years, so it probably won't happen. But if you did this for an episode I would listen--like at least twice! (Here's my stab at a list: 1. Undertale by Toby Fox https://open.spotify.com/track/0xeDaa5RD48c59YGHim78S?si=yRkG_ZHBRQ-3aM7wGwMkbA 2. Crypt of the Necrodancer by Danny Baranowsky https://open.spotify.com/track/0wydxbEaB3KSKJstJVhTG5?si=y0MpJzM8T62-K7LY55OmJw 3. Ultimate, Cadence of Hyrule, Rez Infinite, and Katamari Damacy Re-roll.) Thanks and keep up the excellent work!

Machine Gun Keeley

Hey Ben and crew, I just finished Death Stranding and turns out it is possible to make package delivery fun and addicting. So my question to you — what mundane activity / job should Kojima gamify next?

Kane Dietzel

Hey guys hope all is well! I am an avid reader as well as an avid gamer. I've been reading Salem's Lot by Stephen King and had myself thinking of way I could gamify this phenomenal book. My closest idea would have Bloober Team who did Blair Witch this year take a crack at creating a slow burn first person horror game with a narrative focus. My question is what book or book series would you like to see made into a game and what type of game?

Dale Roth

Hey dudes. Yes I said dudes. I’m finally gonna write and hope I get heard because my email sucked so bad at GI. So to start off thank god you don’t have a table cloth or whatever it was at GI on MinnMax. I hated and still hate seeing that thing. What’s the reason behind it? Just to hide wiring? Any backstory to it? Would love to hear history or I hope funny story. I get it but a eye sore to look at. Enough of that though. First thing I want to ask is favorite video game of all time!!! You guys pick the one that if tomorrow is your last day on this fucking earth what will you play and appreciate til your last breath!!! Also I got a game for y’all. But will test your movie knowledge also can’t use phones use your brains guys. Ok here we go. So I’m gonna give you each two actors you have to connect them only through movies. No shows or games or whatever else. So example for starters is um Will Smith and Shia Labeouf. So they are in a movie together but to make it challenging I’ll do it in less than six but more than one. So Will was in Bright with Joel edgerton, Joel was warrior with Tom Hardy, Tom Hardy was in Lawless with Shia. You have to win with less movies as possible. Good fucking luck. B:Jeff Goldblum and Will Ferrell K:Alan Tudyk and Alan Rickman J:Joe Pesci and Edward Norton S:Brie Larson and Jeff Bridges Sorry so long but can’t tell ya how many movies but will say less than six. Good luck quick too you can always help each other out to make it co-op. Also help create a name. At blockbuster RIP we called it Six degrees but that was lame but the game was fun so hope you guys do. Also stop spoiling shit!!!!

Nicholas Marrano

Has anyone seen the Xbox creators collection? It’s in the Xbox live store. There are some gems in there. Check it out for a good laugh.

Rocketgirl. Check it out on YouTube. You’ll thank me later

I recently re-watched the G.I. super replay of Resident Evil 4, and the episode where Dan Ryckert pretends to be a soundboard got me thinking: What quotes would you select for a soundboard of the other people at the MinnMax table? Is there some specific thing you think they say a lot? Is it something they don't realize they say a lot? Or is there some quote that you WANT people to say and think of you? What's your MinnMax catch phrase, I guess is what I'm asking. It's been a couple months, now; surely you've all come up with one.

Mike Vogt

Does your online gaming group know you work in games media?

Sincerly, Eric

I saw during Ben's live reaction to Ghostbusters Trailer that he is excited for it to be kids going up against the Ghost. To me that is my favorite kind of story and it made me wonder, do any of you have a favorite (in any medium) story setup that isn't actually considered a Genre. For me and as an example it is Kids Vs..... from Stranger Things to IT and even His Dark Materials or that one Harry Potter movie.

GreenMountainState

Hey MinnMax, Here's an easy one: favorite holiday beverage? Peppermint mocha? Stouts? I was never a big eggnog fan until a friend of mine shared his homemade version and it was amazing. Cheers

Guy Incognito

Finally finished The Last Guardian! I started playing Death Stranding and was not into it. The few hours I put into Death Stranding reminded me of the displeasure I had playing The Last Guardian which then had me popping that game in and finally finishing it. Have any of you been in a similar situation where you stopped playing a game you didn't like only to go back to a different game you previously gave up on?

Ben Pilaczynski

What’s up MinnMaxerz! Ben Pilaczynski (Pil-ah-chin-ski) here! With Halo Reach coming out on Xbox One and PC it brought back a flood of memories. One being blown away by the ending and how it connected to the rest of the Halo universe. What game had a huge impact like that for you? Also, the community meet up was super rad. Shout out to everyone who showed up and thanks Ben Hanson for coming around to our table just to say hi (even if you were unsure if we were there for the community or not)

Nejin

Hey guys, what game world do you think is perfect for a game of a completely different genre? I would love a Mushroom Kingdom management sim.

LaRay M. Hare

Hey MinnMax(2 Ns) LaRay (Luh-Ray) aka BluMayhem in the Discord. With the end of the generation imminent I had a question about what games were the last you bought in a generation that left a mark on you. (Either good or bad.) One that stood out to me is Remember Me by Dontnod Entertainment. I remember the media at the time fondly writing about this game as an artistic endeavor and a great way to end the 360/PS3 generation. I remember thinking this game was a slog, while I enjoyed the world and the characters, I thought the gameplay was missing something. (A certain Je ne sais quoi...) Any end of the Generation games that stood out to you? (Any previous generation.)

Colin Perkins

Last night I picked up Avicii Invector, a brand new rhythm game featuring the music of the late EDM DJ, and I was delighted that the game is actually rock solid. I'm a big fan of Avicii's music and his death has affected me quite a bit. Being a fan of his music, rhythm games, and also wanting to support his family's foundation that focuses on mental health, I planned to buy this game regardless of its critical reception. What's a recent game that you purchased based on similar grounds? Did the game turn out to be any good?

Travis Manick

Hello from Nashville! A simple question this week: What is the best Christmas song? For me, it has to be Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (any version that includes the lyric "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow" - kills me every time) or O Holy Night.

Edgar Vazquez

Hey Minnions! While searching for the game Suriel was talking about, the "No way..." game, I ended going through four hours of an eight hour youtube video showcasing EVERY SINGLE playstation game. I finally did find that it was Perfect Weapon, but something interesting I saw the multitude of COLORING games. I remember playing some on PC, but had no idea that the PS1 had so many of these. Why do you think we don't see these anymore on consoles? Are these even still a thing? Since Kyle has a Baby Kyle, has he seen any?

AnAttackCorgi

Hello 60 minnutes crew, The panel accidentally touches a cursed Xbox controller and switch bodies. If you had a choice, who's body do you switch with and why. Cheers AnAttackCorgi

Travis Brinkley

Hey Ben and Crew, I don’t want to assume things but I think last week’s show was based on my question for the 11/5 post, so it was awesome to see that turned into a full episode. No question this week, but if you need a joke category for next week, I have one: Best Soulslike of the Year - Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Remnant: From the Ashes - Code Vein - The Surge 2

Brian W

no need to argue it anymore maxomillions, I have the actual real game of the year from 2018 for you. It was Monster Hunter World.

Mark Cruz

Hello minions! Ok easy question, don’t answer if it’s a spoiler or you. the ff7 remake soundtrack track list is out can you speculate how far the game will go based on the tittles

Brian Paradis

Hey Gang! Thoughts on the Nintendo Indie Showcase? I am super excited about Sports Story, which is one of my favorite switch exclusives and Supermash.

Geoff Enright

Hey fellow Maximalists from the cold north, We all have our preference for games, and with industry standards adapting to innovation, what standards would you like to see implemented into games, current or future? Let's focus on the positive rather than negative here, i.e. microtransactions, loot crates Examples: FPS games having a ground slide Most genres creating RPG progression mechanics New game+ on solo experience games for a greater challenge or to unlock what you missed IMO - The older I get, the less time I have for my hobby and instead of the Destiny style of class/doll creation, (a unique path and you must create another to experience others) I prefer what Anthem does (you are the character and have access to 4 "classes" without restarting/recreating)

Mark Garcia

Hey MnnMxrs, I'm sorry if this question is going to get a little darker, but I was curious. I lost a loved one to cancer about two years ago. During the grieving process I really latched on to Undertale as part of my coping mechanism to process my grief. When I needed to feel happier, I would beat the game running the pacifist route. When I was angry and needed to "break things," I would run the genocide route. Have you found that you have gone to a specific game or gaming genre as a coping mechanism when you need to make sense of things that you would otherwise have little to no control over in this crazy journey we call life?

AnAttackCorgi

Hello Minnutemen and women, What's something you've looked for on the internet for a long time yet never found? Could be an answer to a question, a song you heard once but don't know the title of, etc. Cheers AnAttackCorgi

Arturo Vargas

Hi maxxers roaming around red dead 2s southwestern part of the map got me thinking. What are the chances of rockstar making the games next possible dlc just a remaster of rdr1? The world is already there. How difficult would it be to add the story and the mexico part of the game? Keep up the great work Art Vargas from Houston TX (Gods armpit)

David Jake Emery

I am currently half way through listening to this while watching the movie. It' great so far!

Hey Minnmaxers, I have part one of a very serious question...How many trains could a train train, if a train could train trains? I'll be back with the next part once you've had a chance to answer. Cheers from Western Australia (The Golden State)
