What game surprised you the most in 2019? I do NOT mean plot twists or mechanics. I will give you an example I played Luigis mansion 3. And I was blown away, it surpassed expectations in how much I enjoyed it and I expected to like the game already. What game gave you an “oh boy” moment while playing so to speak. Lol 😏

Hey MinnMax crew, What’s your most anticipated game of 2020? I’m sure there is no shortage of love for Final Fantasy 7 Remake but are there any other games holding the top spot for you? While few details have been released so far, Halo Infinite is my choice. A Halo game hasn’t launched with a new Xbox console since 2001 and it will have been 5 years since Halo 5 released. I’m really curious to see how 343 shakes things up going into a new generation. Justin in Alexandria, MN

Apex was definitely prematurely dropped. You guys shouted out the game design which was incredible but oh my lord the sound design. The sounds of hit markers leading up to the cacophonous shatter of an enemy shield was endlessly addictive.

Thom Blackburn

Hi Ben and the minnmax crew, You were raving about the Watchmen series (rightfully so) so why weren't those video games any good and does that ip have another shot at having a good game? Who should make it?

Tony Arlington

Who's cuter: Baby Yoda or FlaminQueso?

James Smith

Hey Hans Benson and the Cookie Flippers (yes I'm trying this one again), What's the weirdest place you've played a video game?

Tony Arlington

What type of huggers are you? Hanson admitted in the Discord that he was a pick-up hugger and some of us had a debate about the rest of the crew. I have a feeling that Suriel is averse to hugs but secretly wants one. JeffM gives warm lingering hugs. And Kyle gives pat your back hugs. What is the truth??

Tactical Dreamer

Hey Crew! The new DLC for Borderlands 3 has a mission that takes place in an impound lot and it makes the classic joke of "Hey, look how long it takes to get anything done in these government buildings!" It reminded me of a similar quest in The Outer Worlds that had you trying to pick up a package at the post office in Byzantium. I think it's a mildly funny joke, but I'm already pretty sick of it with just those two examples. So my question is this: What is the most tired joke or gag in video games? Thanks for the great year! Chris Bartlett

Bob Buel

Simple question to the computer loving cohorts, What's the absolute worst thing about your absolute favorite game ever?

Clark Hardaway

Hey Ben and Crew, As a new-ish Dad, I’m coming across more and more games on my Switch that I will want to share with my kids a few years down the road. With Microsoft leading the charge in providing FULL-LIBRARY backwards compatibility for Series X on Day 1, do you think Nintendo will follow suit and allow our Switch digital catalog to carry forward to their next console? Will this become the norm moving forward? Thanks for everything you guys do!

What is a personal resolution for each of you for the year 2020? And, separately, what is a resolution each of you would like to set for MinnMax?

Brandon Fream

I’m about a month behind on listening to podcasts, so this is a bit of a throw back, but ... During an email section on the Game Informer show a weeks or two before you (Ben) left – Kimberly Wallace mentioned that she was filled with anxiety making sure she didn’t mispronounce words when speaking on the podcast. Then later in that episode Hanson mentioned Nier Automata (he said “Auto””Mata” vs “Ah”Tom”Ah”Ta” as corrected by Kato). In the current gaming space, most VO will pronounce names and words for you, but back in the old days (or playing text heavy games) – you had to figure out the names yourself. I remember the NES version of Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV in Japan) when I was 10 years old and the shock of learning I was messing up the names so bad when I finally heard them said by industry people and future installments in the series many years later. Here are my most notable: Name: My Pronouncing “Correct” Pronouncing Bahamut Bay-Hah-Mutt Bah-Hah-Met Chimera Chim-Err-Ah Ky-Mer-Ah Behemoth Beh-Heh-Moth Beh-Hee-Muth Cecil See-Sill Sess-ill Do you have any names you’ve long messed up? Brandon from Blaine, MN

Let's pretend the Wii Vitality Sensor pulled a Palpatine and came back to life. Who can come up with the best pitch for its existence?

This time of year is about getting better and self-reflection, that said, who has been the most influential person in your career up to this point?

God's Garage

Hey y'all, Scott here (not really) With 2019 behind us, next year already looks to be a busy year for games. The first quarter alone is chockoblock full of major releases and it'll be interesting to see what the rest of the year fills out with. That said, knowing what little we do now , what's you're pre-2020, 2020 game of the year? Joel from Batavia Ohio

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the GOTY episode. It was great listening to all of you defend your picks and see the list get shaped from start to finish and just how the whole debate played out. I'm so going to pick up some of these games now that I wouldn't have touched otherwise, especially because of Suriel's pitch for Disco Elysium. Thanks for the great content and I hope MinnMax will continue to set itself apart from every other 'guys who play games' channels.

What is your favorite game to manipulate your character to appear to be performing a sex act!

Greetings from Kansas City! (Missouri) With Christmas only days away I wanted to ask the panel about your favorite Christmas Gaming memories. For me the highlights include getting the N64 with Super Mario 64 on Christmas and having my mind blown by just how good it looked. I also have some very fond memories of getting the Gamecube on Christmas, despite being let down at the time that it wasn't a PS2. The Gamecube turned out to be an amazing console for my brother and I. There's also a great home video of my brother and I losing our minds when we got the original Smash Bros on N64 while my two sisters looked at us like we were crazy. Good times. What are your favorite Christmas Gaming memories? Jared Barzee

Ben Pilaczynski

Hello everyone! Is there a game/movie/book that you have made a ritual of playing/watching/reading every year? I know of people who like to watch Die Hard every Christmas or playing Bioshock at least once a year. Thanks for the great content! Ben PS would love if you guys did a news roundup podcast some time. There’s so many stories that come out through the weeks that I miss and I would love to hear your opinions on things!

Sincerly, Eric

Hey JeffM and Mystery Team. Jeff, how was the Lasagna? What are some buckwild or Hot takes for the Gaming Industry in 2020?

Jake Johnson

Hello MinnMax Crew, I have a game for you. You need to guess if the name is a character from Battleborn or a prescription drug. Thanks for all of the great content you guys make! Keep up the good work! Battleborn or Medicine Aurox BB Ambra BB Paxil Drug Antidepressant Reyna BB Femara - drug lowers estrogen levels Alani BB Prolia - drug monoclonal antibody Tricor - drug reduces cholesterol

Antonino Laberdee

Hey Jeff and guests, During the goty discussion Kyle remarked on his experiences with a game (I don't remember which one) but Suriel said "you played on switch right?" As if this invalidated Kyle's feeling for the game. My question is should this distinction be made? These game companies are choosing to put out a product on the switch why should they get a pass for publishing an inferior product?

Hans Kleinenberg

Why are the Game Awards not at the start of the year? I can literally think of no reason. Perhaps I'm missing an obvious one, but it makes no sense to me. Have a great Christmas!

Lewis K

Why in “It’s a Wonderful Life” is Mary wearing glasses, a nice cardigan and going to the library, one half of which George admits to doing earlier in the film, the worst possible fate for her? Really makes me think. Compared to a few of the other people in George’s life I feel she really got out alright and Capra phoned that one in a bit.

AnotherRobot

Hi all, Controversial opinion: I’d argue Dreams isn’t a game, it’s a tool. It shouldn’t be on a “Game of the Year” list. It would be like saying Unreal Engine should be on the list because there are so many cool, interesting experiences and games made in Unreal Engine. Even if you include the campaign Media Molecule made in Dreams, it likely doesn’t stand up against any of the other games on either list. Also, I felt Kyle got railroaded regarding Control. Control should have remained at #3.

Blake Kibby

Hello MinnMix, first of all, I'd like to wish you Happy holidays and a great 2020. Do you guys have any plans for Pax East ?

Brady Easter

Congratulations! You've just gained the one-time ability to make one type of thing either larger or smaller. You pick the item, you pick the size! Want cats the size of horses? You can do it! Is baby corn not small enough for you? Shrink 'em! How about apples just slightly larger so as to be just a bit more filling? Yum! The choice is all yours, but remember! You can only change one type of thing. So, what are you going to do? (Love all the content. You all are the best. ~Brady E. from Edmond, OK)

Hey howdy hey Ben, JeffM and Two special guests! Last time I submit this game, I swear. Game Time! This game is called: “Super Worth It?" The rules are simple: I’ll present you with three scenarios of “super powers” with terrible downsides, and you have to decide one option that sounds best. You must choose one option. 1. Super Power: You can fly! You can go as high as you want, for as long as you want! Downside: You have to be completely naked to fly and you can’t fly very fast (15 mph is your top speed) 2. Super Power: Super Strength. You can be as strong as superman any time you want. Downside: Any time you use your super strength (even by accident), you are super weak the entire next day. You will be unable to lift more than 1 pound for that day. 3. Super Power: Invisibility! You, and whatever you are wearing, can go completely invisible any time and anywhere you want for as long as you want. Downside: You have frequent, audible, and extremely putrid flatulence any time you’re invisible and 5 minutes after you reappear. Thanks, FlaminQueso

Hey Ben, I think I missed the window for questions for the last podcast, so apologies if this is a repeat: any thoughts on possibly cutting commentary tracks for the MCU Infinity Saga? I know 22 movies is a large ask, but your Star Wars commentaries were a fun listen and I'd love more. Thanks :)

Neil Brown

Hey MinnMaxers and the diddly dodats, i think you guys have been too nice recently. I want you to recreate the time a game pissed you off the most and have the others guess what game you were playing. Happy holidays!

In 10 years, what game will be more discussed/more highly thought of, “red dead redemption 2” or “death stranding”? -rob from NY

Kezia Darling

Hey friends, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your game of the year discussion. The format was great and the conversations were substantial. Thanks!

RickyWinterborn

Sup nerds, GOTY chat was great, what a twist that Kyle hates Zelda now. The list was pretty spot on, it was interesting seeing how split ya’ll were on baba is you, because my girlfriend and I are exactly the same. We had the mind blowing moments of discovery at first, but now that were deep into the game, just hearing the music when i come home triggers anxiety. At some point the levels just feel impossible, so I’m afraid to even engage in figuring them out.

Afternoon, Ben and the Hansonauts, Loving MinnMax as a whole and I'm so glad it exists. I'm hoping your vast knowledge could help recommend a game for me to play. I'm interested in getting into the RTS genre but I'm a novice to it at best. I think the roadblock for me is the "strategy" part of the title. I'm not interested in an RTS that demands chess-level strategy and combat where you win or lose by the smallest of margins. I'm more interested in managing or developing a city/society/etc where it's more about progress than conquest. Civilization games come to mind but I hear they can be pretty hard core, I'm sure even more so for a newcomer. Is there a game that comes to mind that fits this description? I play PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC so platform is no object, although I would prefer a game on PC so I can get some use out of my rig. Thanks for reading and keep up the good work! Can you move the Wall of Heroes tv in front of the table? There's some dead space there that isn't used, and the stuff on the screen is slightly obscured by JeffM and Suriel. Or maybe raise the tv at least a couple inches and tilt the camera up a bit?

Thom Blackburn

What 2 IPs would you love to see have a crossover? They don't need to be related in any way if you don't want them to. Thanks, Thom from Redmond, WA

zak wojnar

Hey y’all! I hear that Ben likes Starcraft 2. Is there a story behind your love of that game? If you don’t mind, can you explain how you came to love this game and, I assume, the series so much? -Love you all, Zak Wojnar from New York.

Hi JeffM & the gang, With all the talk around life is strange 2,it seems like everyone has forgotten the first games flaws and I feel like I’m going crazy. Can you Sell me on life is strange 2 and tell me how they improved the game? Key flaws to address. Basic story, generic characters and mismatch of character emotions and reactions to dialogue choices (eg when characters go from sad to happy to sad.) Thanks

How does one became a real gamer boi

What games this year were the biggest letdowns (as far as hype going into the year and the end result of a game you were excited about disappointing you)?

LaRay M. Hare

What’s up MinnMax? LaRay (Luh-Ray) aka BluMayhem in the Discord here. I have a specific question about the future of gaming this week. This past decade has been characterized and guided by the premise of uniting gamers through an online presence walled off by their platform’s ecosystem. Most recently, cross play has been heralded as the pinnacle of this generation’s achievement. This seems to be a limitation of thinking due to this decade’s beginning. I’m curious, what does the panel see as the next great innovation for the upcoming decade?

JRandCheese

How’s it going Ben Hanson and the Minn Maxx crew! Just wanted to say thank you for the show as well as all the team’s work back at Game Informer. I joined the wonderful commuting world of podcast listeners back in 2016 around the time our hearts and minds surrounded Overwatch and Uncharted 4. Since then, your thoughts and opinions have continued to enjoyably encompass my eardrums roughly once a week and I wish you all nothing but the best moving forward. While commuting to your episode with Emily Reese, we were listening to the beautiful score of “Under the Eye of Kibenya”. Towards the end of that snippet, a simple thought ran through my brain, and from utter impulse, I imitated the voiceover work from the mini games in Mario Party, and yelled out, “START” and proceeded to maniacally die of laughter like a HYENA on the 710 Freeway. Just a thought, have you ever experienced a moment in gaming or in life where you knew you were in the middle of something beautifully powerful, only to have the tension wash away in an instant due to an action or thought, yours or else’s? Cheers, J.R. Ancheta Lancaster, CA

Ok ok I know this will get shot down but I have to throw it out there - Red Dead Redemption 2 Online. I knooooow RDR2 launched in 2018 but online didn't leave beta til 2019. I just know I play online way more than story and it's a fun game with friends. Throwing it out there but get it if it isn't a contender bc of the main game launch (or you guys just dislike it a ton lol). Awesome show, love you guys and happy holidays! Carly Los Angeles

Have any of you watched the Witcher yet? Even with its dark and grim world I think it’s the lore i love the most and would like to live in. If you could pick any video game lore to live in what would you pick? Thanks love the show.

Zack

I absolutely loved the format of the Two Tens (or is it supposed to be Two Tenns with two Ns?) discussion and I really enjoyed listening to the episode. This time I have less of a question and more of a comment/feedback: in your discussion Jeffm asked if not playing a game should be weighed against it, and in my opinion, it absolutely should when it comes to the Upper Ten because the stakes there are much higher than any other point in the discussion. Also, someone choosing not to play a game should be weighed much more heavily than someone not playing a game because they didn't have time to get around to it, e.g. Kyle's "I don't play Mortal Kombat because it is ultra-violent" is a bigger knock against it than "I should have played more Disco Elysium, but I was playing Resident Evil all weekend" I don't think it ended up mattering too much for this discussion, and I'm happy with the list overall. But I do think this should be considered in the future. Best Regards, Zack

Adam Cohen

Are you guys tired of saying "two n's" yet?

MickManga
