Hey Ben and the CLCs, Taking a classic game and giving it a modern remake is all the rage these days. RE2, RE3, and FF7 are just a few examples. To flip this notion on its head, what’s a modern game or series you would like to see get a retro or 16 bit treatment?

DarkFishDays

Did anyone see the teaser for Atomic Heart that came out last week? From what I understand it’s set in an alternative Soviet Russia with killer robots and a hallucinating main character. The teaser is eerie in the best way possible. It surprised me to find that the game was originally advertised with a 10 minute trailer back in 2018. Yet until last week I had never heard of the game. Have you guys ever experienced that type of blind spot, where an interesting game completely passes by your radar until it’s released?

Hello Minnmax crew, Do you often find yourselves going back to games that you've completed for reasons other than nostalgia? Personally, I almost never go back to games that I've already finished, often opting instead for new and novel experiences. However, as of recently, with the slow Q1 release schedule, I've found myself going back and playing through games that I completed several years ago. I've replayed through Abzu and am in the process of replaying broken age. I've found that replaying games after they've left the game industry zeitgeist really helps distinguish the game from the news and hype surrounding it, and can help clarify and solidify my opinion of a game. Do you often find yourself going back to a game to help inform your opinion after several years removed? Thanks! Gabriel Logue Pronounced Low-g

Hey guys! I know you guys are technically computer loving cohorts, but can you spare a second to maybe show some love to this mobile game that I'm really digging right now? It's called Void Tyrant! It's a rogue-like adventure game where fighting mechanics are tied to a black-jack like system. You draw cards from a deck containing cards numbered from 1-6 with 4 copies of each card in the deck. You try to get as close to 12 as you can, and the player with the higher amount after standing gets to hit the other player a number of times equal to the difference between totals. Go over 12, and your bar gets sent to 6 or 1 below the other player's current total. I'm having a blast with this game, and it has earned a coveted "Really good toilet game" comment from a lot of the friends that I show this game to. If you guys end up checking it out, hope you really enjoy!

I recently moved into an apartment with a backyard, and playing switch in a lawn chair is more satisfying then it should be. My friend and I were reminiscing about running an extension cord out to a tent and setting up an xbox and playing halo in the great outdoors. Why does playing video games outside feel so MAGICAL?

RickyWinterborn

Warzones 1v1 duals to respawn sound sooo nerve wracking. How do you think it will technically work though? Will it warp to to a separate game instance? Will the 1v1s be in some type of cage real time on the map? Alive players could watch there teammate win back a respawn, thats gonna be epic.

Hello Cohorts, in the name of getting better what are some of the hardest obstacles outside of gaming you’ve had to overcome to actually participate in this hobby of ours? For me it has been overcoming my anxiety disorder to play any multiplayer component in a game. It takes some work to calm myself down, and several coping techniques, but I am able to jump in and enjoy myself, hence why I even bother in the first place and it’s good to push myself out of my comfort zone to get better. Thank you for all you do.

Hey cohorts and co. I'm going back to school (UofM) and I've been riding the bus to campus lately, and as such have been spending alot of time revisiting some of my old handheld consoles to enhance my commute. The switch is fantastic but wont quite fit into a pocket comfortably. The Gameboy Micro has been my go to system lately with great games like advance wars and superstar saga and it easily fits in my pocket. I do also love my vita for all the Psx classics I have on it, but while smaller than the switch, it is notably bigger than a gameboy micro. The switch and vita however have the advantage of having many many games downloaded on them without me having to carry extra cartridges. What are the things you folks consider when figuring out which portable to bring with you? Any particular favorite portable consoles/games? Thanks.

MickManga

I really enjoyed doing the Chrono Trigger Deepest Dive. And while I hope that Chrono Cross will be covered one day, it's one of my favorite games ever. However I was wondering if the deepest dive might cover some other classics even if they are short. Like the original Super Mario Bros?

All- I think that the most important issue that in games right now is accessibility, and I am floored that this isn’t a bigger conversation. I have a bad wrist injury from a workplace accident, and God of War allowing me to swap the “STAB THE X BUTTON REPEATEDLY” for “just hold the x button” in QTE really made the experience for me. Why isn’t every game like this?!? I’m happy to see things like expanded control options and the Xbox adaptive controller, but there is still a ways to go. What are some ways to improve accessibility for games? Thanks and byyyye

Hey MinnMax Crew, It’s not uncommon for video game fans’ overly zealous love of their favorite franchises to take a toxic turn, either in defending the game in conversation with peers or shamelessly promoting it to the point where people are sick of hearing about it. This kind of behavior has frequently left a bad taste in my mouth and has somewhat negatively skewed my personal feelings for several franchises including Smash Bros, Pokémon and Kingdom Hearts, at no fault whatsoever to the game itself. My question to you - has the fandom of a game or series ever changed your general perspective on the franchise, either for worse or for better? I’m sure there are probably instances where a great community has contributed to a positive outlook on a game as well. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for considering my question. Wes Bates, Woodland, CA

Wes Bates

Hey MinnMax Crew, Simple question – what game has your favorite UI or HUD and how would you like to see games utilize their UI/HUD differently than the standard, boring life bar, ammo count or mini-map? Thanks and stay awesome! Wes Bates Woodland, CA

Hey minnimaxers! Over the last month (after completing trails of cold steel 3, seriously you guys should play that series). I have started the process of learning japanese so that I can play more JRPG that are not localized to the west or the wait is too long (looking at you yakuza 7). So with the idea of making yourself better, have any of you learned a new skill or done anything to better yourself for any form of entertainment? Please continue being awesome! Jared from Indiana.

Hey team! I really liked your Minn 20 and Max 20 format for 2019’s releases. What would you say, out of all the games you’ve played in your life, is your #1 Minn and #1 Max? My #1 Minn might be Shadows of Mordor. I love LOTR but not when every fight gets interrupted every 2 minutes by yet another nemesis going “haha I’m back!” My #1 Max might be the latest God of War because that was the first game where I was completely happy with both the gameplay and the writing. That story was more engrossing than a lot of films I’ve seen. Maybe I need to see better films though

Hey MinnMaxers. I hope Jeff M is having a wonderful day. On the MinnMax show and back on GI you guys will regularly bring up how dreams is a wonderful hub of weird games and creativity. I wanted to point out that this kind of experience still exist on PC with the website Itch,io. It is a platform for indie developers to load their games onto for free. My friends and I have put out 3 free games under the name Digital Daydream, but you can find tons of free games made with all different engines and many are playable completely free online. So if anyone is interested in being able to play a variety of small to big experiences they should go check it out! Justin Raleigh, NC

Physics defines the multiple world theory (MWI) or "multiverse" theory as an infinite number of parallel universes which contain within them all possible outcomes of quantum interactions. Essentially for every decision you make that boils down to quantum variations of chemical reactions inside our brains leading to one outcome or another there exists a universe or multiple universes where you made every possible outcome in those universes. So out there in this multiverse which contains every possible versions of ourselves I ask you, does there exist a universe where Ben Hansen passionately defense pop-tarts against the toaster strudel stalwarts as passionately as he does the reverse in our universe? One where Ben Hansen would have mercilessly mocked toaster strudels with zingers like "Toaster strudels? More like poster noodles!" or "Adhesive bandages taste better!"

Nordley

Hey MnnM’s! For the rest of your life, you have to choose between only being able to play games that have already been released, or only playing games that come out after today. Which do you choose?

Bob Buel

Howdy Kyle-less cohorts, A quick game, based on a roadtrip game I used to play. Taking turns going through the alphabet, can you name a video game character whose name begins with every letter?

Adam Cohen

Hello Ben and [Insert clever nicknames here] Who would be on each of your own personal "Mount Rushmores of Gaming"? No wrong answers. Mine would be: Gordon Freeman Solid Snake Link Mario This doesn't even have to be limited to video games. When I posed this question on Facebook, my mother-in-law included the Queen of Hearts and the thimble from Monopoly in her choices. P.S. I have lived in Florida my whole life, and I'm not sure why, but the state Floridians hate most is definitely Florida. And I don't know about NC being the favorite of Floridians, but my wife and I did go to Asheville last year and there were a lot of Floridians there.

Hello Ben and Cohorts! I have a game for you! It could be much fun, but maybe it’s poo. I’ve devised a series of four-line rhymes. ABCB is the chosen rhyme scheme just buzz in with your name and if last say the thing, then fill in the blank and try not to daydream. Each of these rhymes is about a game studio but only the head is what you must discern it will contain a few facts and the rhyme may be slant give Ben the right name and a point you will earn. For example I'll give you a quite easy one: If I said that the firm was anything but teeny and that their biggest title was Fortnite you score a point by answering, “Sweeney” Best out of 7 becomes the victor. I don’t have a rhyme for this one. we can’t all be perfect, but wait, what’s this here? a rhyme has shown up, isn’t that fun!? ————————————————————————— These people make games that are full of adventure. To finish each one, you must be sharp as a razor 2 Player Prod make it fun to see how they’re made. The most candid boss really must be ______ _________. (Tim Schafer) ————————————————————————— They were owned twice and now they are free. Became indie again without kerfuffle or arson. A few times a year they top twitch charts with raids. Few interviews are granted with this boss, ______ ___________ (Pete Parsons) ————————————————————————— Their games are extremely tough and unmerciful. I don’t get my friends who play them, and boy are they cocky. The lore is sure awesome, I learned it on YouTube. Philosophist and optimist, this sadist is ______________ (Miyazaki) ————————————————————————— Prolific as ever, these people seem crazy. Buying up other studios like some crazy game dispenser. I don’t get their strat, but they’ll show me I’m wrong. Do I need an Xbox?, please tell me, ______ __________. (Phil Spencer) ————————————————————————— Family friendly games but everyone loves them. Many cute animals, but no protagonist chihuahua?? Maybe one as a neighbor on an island in March.. I didn’t know this, but google said his name was _____________. (Furukawa) ————————————————————————— This one’s a freebie, so buzz in real fast. The last one was harder, would’ve made me say “Wowzer” Have you not buzzed in yet? I’m super surprised. The American partner of the last answer: ____________ (Doug Bowser) ————————————————————————— Again, I’m surprised, didn’t know Layden retired. My current console of choice, feels to me like pure Zion. I do wish more of their games would come to PC though. I’ll just look to the HORIZON and plead with _____ ______. (Jim Ryan)

Jim Blubello

Hey Gang, What Next-Gen feature are you most looking forward to for the new consoles? Is it the SSD, improved graphical potential, the potential of complete backwards compatibility, or something else that I'm not thinking of? I’d say it’s the SSD for me. Since I’m not a PC guy I’m looking forward to the possibility of playing a big open world RPG without the long load times. Thanks.

Hugo Aguilar

Hey MinnMaxers, When’s the last time you raged quit a game? What embarrassing thing did you do? Did you break your controller or maybe your TV? As a kid I remember getting so up and bursting into tears because I couldn’t get past the Spider-Man level in Spider-Man and X-Men Arcades Revenge for the SNES. I don’t remember if it was related, but I remember cutting the SNES power cord with scissors.. I was a dumb 6 year old. Nowadays I just turn the game off and do something else to cool off.

Kane Dietzel

I absolutely cannot listen to "All I Want" by The Offspring without recalling fond memories of Crazy Taxi on my Dreamcast. Are there any songs or bands that give you a nostalgic gaming flashback?

AnAttackCorgi

Hey MinnMax Creww with two Ws, Blizzard just delivered news about an animated backstory TV show that'll deliver background story and universe tidbits. I'm pretty excited and want to know how the panel's feeling about it. Also, what's your favourite animated (or live action if animated is too difficult) TV show adaptation of a game series? Cheers, AnAttackCorgi with spelled with one Corgi

Hey Ben & The Mighty MinnMax Multitude, I really enjoy my current job but I'm only allowed 32 hours a week. I basically have one Friday a week too do whatever I please. I'm curious if You can think of any work in the game industry that would only require 8-10 hours a week of work. I would love to start up a little side hustle. Thanks for the great show.

RickyWinterborn

Someone brought up crazy taxi, my friend and I got obsessed with on of the mini games where you had to drift and jump across these giant blocks in the middle of the ocean. It became the only thing we did in the game. Have you ever became obsessed with a tiny side portion of a game and ignore the main content?

Georgie Hinojosa

Hello all, I'm curious if any of you have a video game experience that helped you to work through a very tough part of your life? Maybe it was cathartic, therapeutic, or just distracting?

GreenMountainState

Hey MinnMax, I was thinking about some of the great plot twists in movies and shows and was wondering what is the best plot twist in a video game? Recently, I loved how the movie Knives Out set up its twist. Cheers

Travis Layman

Hey Maxonistas! Travis from Las Vegas here. Do you guys (and gals possibly) have any stories about being a kid and really wanting a new game but not having any money to do so? I remember when skyrim came out I was so excited to play it the first day it released that I sold my entire collection of 360 games that I'd built up at the time, probably about 10 or 15 rather than wait until my birthday or christmas. Completely worth it. Elder Scrolls for Life.

Sean Burke

Hey guys, first time long time. I've been a die-hard Xbox fan since I was a teenager, mostly b/c it's what my parents bought for me at the time. I had never bought a PS4 until Xmas 2018. So in 2019 I finally got around to all the excellent exclusives throughout thps generation. Last of Us Remastered, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Spiderman, etc. My question is... Any good lesser known PS exclusives you'd recommend since I already blew through the more popular ones?

FlaminQueso

Dear Hanson and the Two N’s, If MinnMax was entered to compete in a Tournament of Champions featuring various Video Games Media outlets, which Cohort would be chosen to represent MinnMax and compete in the following games based on skill. (Let’s assume all Cohorts and extended cohorts are available and excited to compete. Each cohort can compete in more than one game if desired. This tournament is for all the marbles so choose wisely!) 1. Mortal Kombat 11 2. Mario Kart 8 3. Call of Duty: MW 4. Super Mario Party (switch) 5. Fortnite 6. Rocket League 7. Super Smash Bro’s Ultimate Bonus Doubles matches!- Select two Cohorts 1. Smash Bro’s Ultimate 2v2 2. Overcooked 2 If it’s not immediately obvious who is chosen for each game, maybe some future streams are required to determine these! Thanks, The Meltiest of Muensters

Leafeonn (Josh K)

Hello Nurse! Seeing Kyle play Chrono Trigger on his phone with a ps4 controller reminded me of the many times ive played games in a strange way. Are there any games youve played in any untraditional ways? Ive realized recently Ive done it in the past playing Super Meat Boy with mouse/keyboard, Superman 64 with a wiimote/nunchuk on an emulator and all of Bioshock Infinite with the PlayStation Move.

Thom Blackburn

Hi Hanson and the Hansons! I just got a second new dog and can't help feeling overwhelmed by how much better he is making me feel about myself as a person. Anyone with anxiety about bringing kids into this world and the huge financial and temporal burden it can be should think about getting a dog first. For your health. Thanks, Thom

Shakenbake67

Hey MinnMaxers, I’m currently got Soul Calibur 6 a couple days ago and playing thru the Libra of Souls campaign and it is such a slog. With Netherrealm consistently knocking out fighting game campaigns out of the park and I feel like getting great reception from them. Why don’t more fighting games follow suit with this formula? Would love a story mode in the vein of Mortal Kombat/Injustice in the Street Fighter or Soul Calibur universe(or any other fighting game franchise)

Dear Ben and the Koopalings, The third year anniversary of Nintendo Switch is coming soon. There have been some great games and some nice ports that are fun to play on the go! How familiar are you with Nintendo Switch box art? Here is a game that will see if you know which titles had reversible cover art or not (games that have artwork that isn't intended to be reversible are included)! Answer "ART" if you think there is art or "VOID" if you think is blank or contains boring legal/copyright text. ARMS (Art) Axiom Verge (Art) Batman: The Telltale Series (Void) Bloodstained (Void) Collection of Man (Art) Diablo III (Void) Disney Classic Games: Aladdin & The Lion King (Void) Dragon Ball FighterZ (Void) Dragon Quest XI (Art) Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered (Art) Horizon Chase Turbo (Art) Katamari Damacy Rerolled (Void) Mario + Rabbids (Void) Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (Art) Namco Museum Arcade Pac (Art) Ni no Kuni (Art) Onimusha (Art) Sega Genesis Classics (Void) SNK 40th Anniversary Collection (Void) Super Bomberman R (Art) Super Mario Maker 2 (Art) Ultra Street Fighter II (Void) Bonus Question: Which game from the list sticks out like a sore thumb when you look at the spine labels. Answer: Super Bomberman R

Greetings travelers, What toppings go on your ideal burger? Cheese, lettuce, tomato onion? Bacon? Jalapenos? Peanut butter!?!?! I like trying new things but my favorite burger is simple: medium burger, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and bacon. Cheers, Nick Luedeman from Indianapolis

Taylor Owens

The hype is so big it seems assured that the FFVII remake will be a financial success for Square, at least this first installment. Now that you’re JRPG experts, do you think Square would or should remake some other titles, such as Chrono Trigger or FFVI? I like Chrono Trigger just the way it looks on my DS, but I wonder if a remake in the visual style of Dragon Quest 11 might work.

Bruce The Genetic Jackhammer Rando

Good day Minnisters! Hypothetically one day in the near future King Nintendo orders you all to make a live service game each out of some of his beloved IP, which IP would each of you choose to use and what would the game be like? You can't nominate an IP you don't like to save the ones you do like from becoming abominations and you have a magic wand that makes the game so you don't require any game development skills

Fred Dinovo

We are running out of time to to wildly speculate about the next gen systems. So! What do you think the Series X and PS5 game cases will look like? Are they getting a new shade of green and blue? Will Xbox still keep the discs on the left?! Speculate!

NanookOfThePrairie

Has the best game on each of the current generation of consoles been released yet? I can't imagine anything surpassing Witcher 3 as my favorite PS4 game, but maybe one of the upcoming big releases will surprise me and move to the top of my list. And, what if a launch title (Breath of the Wild), is the best game of the Nintendo Switch?

Zane Dukes

Yo CLCs Y'all continually praise the Minnmax community on being the nicest place on the internet? What is it about our community that makes us not as awful as the rest of the internet? Why is the video game community in general so awful?

Zane Dukes

You have unlimited resources to expose a huge problem in the video game industry. You call in Ronan Farrow. What direction do you point him at and say "chopper. Sic balls"?

Richard Herron

Is there anything worse than the console race influencing articles stating X has an edge over Y because of Z? I know it’s entirely my fault that these articles keep appearing in my news feed because I click on them with zero hesitation, but why is it so many journalists neglect to state that they’re forming an opinion rather than a factual statement? The negativity and fanboy culture drove me to purchasing a decent enough gaming pc just to escape it.

Nicholas Marrano

From Nick in Atlanta Hey two N crew, Just curious, what are your vacation plans for 2020? Everyone needs a break. Also, can we put this idea out in the universe..... The world needs a zombie ate my neighbors remake. I have spoken, this is the way. Love you guys.

Jared Barzee

Hey guys! So I'm a huge fan of the Nintendo Switch. I've been playing it all the time recently, and see so many positives overall. But it also feels like there's so much untapped potential. There are still so many ways for this console to improve and we're just a few weeks away from the 3 year anniversary of the launch. One thing in particular that has been especially bad has been the lack of virtual console, and the manner in which they've released NES and most recently, SNES games. There's no excitement for these, there's no consistent schedule, and as the most recent batch shows, it doesn't seem like Nintendo really cares. This is such a no brainer for Nintendo with their immense back catalog, and consumers hungry to purchase or even have Netflix style access to their content. Despite having so many games to play, it drives me crazy that Nintendo can't figure this out. Should there be more pressure on Nintendo to get this figured out? I feel like this topic deserves a lot more discussion. It seems like most people just chalk it up to Nintendo being Nintendo, or *it's only $20 a year. " We should expect more in my opinion. Are we just forever doomed to deal with the inevitable bad Nintendo decisions we've suffered through over the years in regards to their online and back catalog? Thanks, Jared B.

t00thr0t

Hey Mighty Maxers! What games in recent memory hooked you from beginning to end? Most of the time I get tired of a game in the final stretch and just want it to end. Even with a shorter game like Outer Worlds I felt like it went on a little too long.

Tyler Sticka

Hello, Ben and the Dancin' Hansons! When I was growing up, I probably spent way more time reading Sonic the Hedgehog comics than playing the games in the years between Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure. More recently, I started reading IDW's Read Only Memories mini-series, which I think I might be enjoying even more than the game it was based on. My question for you: What game universes do you think might work well in comic form? Personally, I'd love to read a Psychonauts comic! Thanks! ❤️ Tyler in Portland

Brent Woodroof

Ben, etc. Do you believe that the developer has any right to an expectation that you play their game in a certain way? For example, if someone plays metal gear as a run and gun third-person shooter and hates it, are they doing the game a disservice? What if they love it and hate it as a stealth game? Is it the developer's responsibility to limit the gameplay to those options they want players to explore?
