Hello cohorts, In the spirit of the "getting better" aspect of MinnMax, I'm wondering if you have ever looked into effective altruism. Essentially, it's the practice of giving to charity in a way that maximizes your resources (dollars, time, etc). In a phrase it's about "doing the most good you can do." This means that while local, state, or home country charities here in the US are a worthy cause, they're statistically much less effective than giving to destitute people elsewhere in the world. Since we can all only give so much to charity, effective altruism is literally min-maxing with your donation. Just something to consider as your platform grows and you're able to do more. No doubt giving games to local Minnesotans in need is a heartfelt move, but it's exponentially more effective to work to correct big picture stuff like climate action or worldwide social injustices. I'd love to hear your thoughts and please don't take this as me poo-pooing any charity work as it's almost always better than nothing.

Hey Kyle and co., do you agree that the proprietary memory expansion announced for Xbox Series X (and likely PS5) is a cunning way to keep the original console cost down (with only a 1tb internal provision) when we all know extra memory purchase is going to be mandatory, given the size of games these days? That way they can have a lower RRP as a selling point, knowing full well we will all have to drop additional cash on at least another 1tb anyway... they’re not fooling me!

Hey Ben and the CLC’s, Jon from Salinas. I’m a teacher and though our schools are shut down, I’m still at work in my empty classroom working on online lessons. During my lunch and breaks I’ve found myself diving into Blitzball from FFX again. I remember devoting 50-60 hours into Blitzball the first time I played FFX. My question is, what is your favorite mini-game from a JRPG that you’ve sunk an absurd amount of time into?

Derrek Helmin

Hey fellas, every time I hear people discussing video game adaptations, such as the upcoming Uncharted movies or The Last of Us TV series, why do gamers generally only look at it from the lens of “why would I want this”. What I don’t often hear discussed is how something like a Last of Us TV show would drive interest in a franchise from someone who has never engaged with the series at all or would never play the game. Take Game of Thrones as an example. There are millions that would have never given that story or those books a minute of their time if not for an incredible run of seasons and the massive amount of hype around it. Sure, I will know the broad strokes of it, but the fact that large groups of people may get to experience an amazing work of art like TLoU who could/would never pick up a controller makes me very happy.

Hey y’all! Lately I’ve been finding myself consuming a ton of different types of media. Jumping from game to game with gamepass, catching all the movies, and reading a ton of comics. This got me thinking, what would your goto item be if you could make it real? Lightsaber? Batmobile? BFG from doom?? What’s that item you want hanging in that brand spanking new studio?? Keep up the stellar work, Ben P

Ben Cooper

Hello fellow Ben and crew! Really enjoyed your latest "movie commentary"/ podcast discussion with your friends as the movie played hehehe! In it the question was asked what game you were most excited for. I would like to hear how the others would answer with the added caveat that it is a game they were most excited about that turned out to be a disappointment. Mine personally would be Deus Ex: Invisible War. The original is my all time favourite game and I ate up every nugget ot info that came out and ultimately was let down with the final product when it finally released.

Hello Cohorts! With Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing coming out on the same day, it's making me think about other disparate games that have come out on the same day, and how their names could easily be jumbled. So here's a very low stakes "game" where I've swapped some titles around. Pick whichever you think would be better! There is no winner, because we're all winners (except I win more when you pick me for QotW?) 1) Animal Eternal or Doom Crossing 3/20/2020 2) Fire Emblem: Cyberpilot or Wolfenstein: Three Houses 7/26/2019 3) Battlefield: Infinite or BioShock: Hardline 3/17/2015 And just because they're dumb: 4) Rayman Revelations or Assassin's Creed: Origins 11/15/2011 5) Super Mario Origins or Assassin's Creed: Odyssey 10/27/2017 Thanks as always, Nick from Atlanta

Hello MinnMax crew! As technology has moved forward, file sizes have become larger. Using image files as an example, higher resolution image files take up more space than their predecessors. My question is, do you think at a certain point, will file sizes stop growing? On an infinite timeline, is there a future where we see a 1 million gig photo file or larger? Or will we eventually get all the information we possibly can from an image file in a finite amount of data? Thanks and keep up the great show, Jacob Shoemake

Neil Brown

Salutations fellow gamers, what's the most satisfying attack or ability to land in any game? Hitting the final blow on a colossus? Sticking a sticky grenade on someone? Nailing a sick ass 360 no scope headshot? Or maybe ( a bit of a stretch) getting a gigantic harvest in Stardew Valley. Would love to hear your thoughts! Cheers!

An Pham

Hey cohorts! What's a game you'd love to see a behind-the-scenes look at? Like the actual game development or design, the concept art, the marketing, or even the brainstorming sessions they had, whatever. Like if you could have noclip make a documentary about any game, what would it be? Thanks and keep up the good work! Btw it's An like on and Pham like Tom

The last couple of weeks have been challenging for us all. Please share with us your ULTIMATE QUARANTINE VIDEOGAME PLAYLIST! In addition to the name of the game, I'd like to know what makes it a great quarantine game. Thank you for all the great work - love MinnMax!

CANAS1AN

Hi CLC/DBZ loving cohorts. I have been enjoying character brackets as of late, so I made a quick/simple one for the MinnMax crew based on DBZ characters. Only 16 characters overall. Please consider all of that character's transformations when considering that character. I would say just consider who is the best character best on the group's criteria. Most likeable? best fighter? Who knows what you will decide? here is a link to the bracket in the minn max discord. https://discordapp.com/channels/633448765533192232/633448765533192234/689573784436736005 Love the show. Be safe and healthy everyone. (especially Jeff M's wife who just became a nurse)

Hey Max-Winners! Recently on long car rides, when a song comes on I ask whoever is riding with me to classify the genre of song that comes on. One day while driving with my girlfriend in the car "Path to Glory" from Pyre's soundtrack came on. Turned out to be a real zinger for her, cause she couldn't put a genre to it! My question is thus: is videogame music its own genre, or can it be put into other existing genres? Hope the virus wave hits you soft!

Faraaz

Hi Team! Do you have health insurance ? Please take care

Adam Cohen

Hello forward down, forward up crew! What old favorites have you returned to recently having extra time being at home?

Ben

Hello guys hope u are well during these worrying times. I was wondering if you had any ideas or plans for a literature focused pod on the network? Every time you have Javy on and he name drops Thomas Pynchon I feel a deep sense of satisfaction and given how cool and fun MinnTraxx ep 1 was I was hoping for maybe some kind of similar thing for books? Maybe a limited series? Thanks for all your work and congrats on 11k again

Tactical Dreamer

Hello! Who is your favorite video game protagonist? Like many people, I've been making my way through the Yakuza series and honestly Kiryu might be my favorite protagonist ever. He's often goofy, but also a serious badass when he needs to be. Throughout the games he stands up for gay rights, beats the crap out of would-be rapists, runs several successful businesses, and just does kind things for everyone he meets, often at his own expense. He's the best. How about you guys? Thanks, Chris Bartlett

Hugo Aguilar

Hey Cohorts, With all these remakes of classic games coming next month. It got me wondering which game would you guys want remade? I personally would love Legend of Dragoon. Thanks for everything you do!

Christopher Reardon

Hi Imran and cohorts, I've been playing Control because it was released on PSNow. In the options, you can swap the functions of the left and right sticks. Anyways, what's the weirdest gameplay option you've ever encountered?

Caleb Weisgerber

Hey Ben and the fantastic Ben'ets! I'm almost finished with my 6th playthrough of the Resident Evil 2 remake and I've noticed an interesting shift in the game. When I first played Leon's and Claire's storylines the game was a really suspenseful and scary horror game. But after playing both scenarios and the 2nd runs, the game feels more like an action/ strategy game. Is this just me min(n)-maxing or are there other games that change genre the more you play them? Do fighting games feel more like strategy/rythem games to Suriel? Love the show, keep up the good work, Caleb from Cincinnati PS, I finally finished Chrono Trigger because of the deepest dive. Thanks for motivating me to put down RE2 long enough to finally play the best J-RPG of all time.

Brady Easter

Hey, everybody! Hope you guys are doing well! (How's your week specifically going, JeffM?) Thanks as always for all the content. And specifically for this post, thank you for your recent discussion on the FFVII Remake Demo! Your excitement for the upcoming game, love for the look and sound of what we've seen so far and especially enthusiasm about the combat helped me finally decide that I am 100% definitely not getting this game. I've always been intrigued by the Final Fantasy series but never played one. I thought this might be a good entry point and so I downloaded the demo, played through it and thought, "Eh, doesn't really feel like it's for me, but maybe it was just a bad demo?" Then, hearing from you guys how NOT bad of a demo it was, I now know that--though I easily recognize the game is shaping up to be an amazing one--it's just not a game for me. So thanks, MinnMaxers, for helping me with my 2020 gaming budget! All this got me thinking about a question that I'd love to hear your responses on: What is the game or gaming series that you respect the MOST, but enjoy the LEAST? Thanks, guys! Be good. Have fun. Let's gooooooooo! ~Brady E. Edmond, OK

James Knight

Hey Computer Lovers, Well it’s official, Kyle Bosman is leaving EZA at the end of April. Any fave memories? And does this count as a victory for Toaster Strudel over Poptarts?

NanookOfThePrairie

Ben and friends, my family benefited from an early spring break this year and spent a fantastic week at Disney World at the beginning of March, before the world ground to a halt. The new rides at Toy Story World and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge are awesome! What video game series would you like to see inspire a new area in a theme park?

John Richards

oops... anyway, here’s a classic question with a slight variation. Can everyone at the table take a moment to share what super power they wish they had? ...and then everyone else at the table psycho analyze what they think that superpower fantasy says about that person, their suppressed psychological fears and personal ID? Thanks guys! You’re all awesome! Also, wash your hands! -John, Windsor California

Derek Jackson

Dearest Ben and the Bad Boyeezz, You guys crushed the new design of the logo for merch, definitely deserves more plugs! I was wondering what your personal takes were on why video games are so difficult to translate onto the big screen? It baffles me how bad of a track record video game-based movies have considering the number of games out there with rich narrative and memorable characters. *Seinfeld voice* I mean really, what’s the big deal? All my love and support, Derek from Charlotte, NC

McCracKenway

To my dearest asymptomatic carriers, here's a quick one. Given the crisis we now find ourselves in, stuck at home, working and learning on line, I've suddenly found myself with a lot more time to play games. So I'm wondering what games are either thematic, therapeutic, or good for taking your mind off things at this moment. I for one have been wondering about Mass Effect 3. I think it is both thematic (an all encompassing crisis with massive stakes) and therapeutic (you take the crisis head on, changing lives and making virtual friendships along the way). I also think Spider-Man or Assassin's Creed (for me right now Unity) could be good for vicariously going outside and traveling to places we can't right now. What are y'all's thoughts? Oh, and I took Ben's advice and finally got drop mix cheap. It came just today and it's super cool.

Zane Dukes

Hey there CLCs. Everything is so nice on the podcast... Let's hear your best Seinfeldesque really? REALLY?

RickyWinterborn

What wine pairs well with the apocalypse?

Jeorin

I've been playing through the original Final Fantasy 7 again ahead of Remake. I've encountered some stuff that I just can't see making it into Remake. I thought Wall Market would be the worst, but Rocket Town is... well, let's just say not acceptable by today's standards. So my question is: What is the most likely thing to be cut from Remake from the original?

Jay

Hello MinnMax! Kyle mentioned in his Gaming Ride Home podcast about how he was happy to hear that Ringfit Adventure is selling well. However, I'm not sure if he was aware that this was largely due to Chinese citizens looking for a way to exercise while in quarantine. With the US about to get coronacharged, are there any non-gaming activities you are planning on doing to remain sane? Happy Quarantine, Jay from Boston

Fred Dinovo

Howdy Quarantine Loving Cohorts, What's the first game in a game series that you beat? My example would be Resident Evil 3, I played 1 and 2 but didn't beat them. Same goes for Super Mario 3 ..maybe it has something to do with 3s.. Side question: How are ya doing JeffM? Thanks!

Riley Autumn Logue

Hey Ben and crew, Do you think E3s cancellation could actually be a blessing in disguise for E3 overall? A lot of talk that I've been hearing is that this is the end of E3 as we know it, but I think this years cancellation could cause the show to come back stronger than ever next year. For one, I think the public demand for the show is going to go through the roof next year. Also, the cancellation of the show this year could be a huge financial hit to the ESA. I could see a situation where negotiation terms for floor and convention space could turn much more in the publishers and developers favor, in order to attract Sony and other companies back to the show. I think it's really going to test the video game market, and I think many publishers and devs as well as the ESA are going to realize that everybody needs E3 more than they thought. Cheers! Gabriel Logue

Hey CLC's, I love behind the scenes documentaries and inside scoops about the development of my favorite films and games. Sometimes it spoils some of the fun or magic of the experience when I rewatch or replay them later. It got me thinking... Have you ever had insider knowledge about the development of a game that spoiled a moment or broke your immersion when you were finally able to play the final version? Thanks! Stay safe and healthy out there. Ryan Wilkes-Barre, PA

Ryan

Cohorts, everyone is excited about the FF7 Remake and we’ve gotten a deluge or action scenes from trailers and the demo that look amazing. What I really wan to know is what will downtime look like? What does just walking around Midgar look like? There’s that squatting mini game teased in the trailers but is there more? Am I wrong for wondering about the duller aspects of the year’s most anticipated title?

Keenan Horrell

Hey everyone! With The Last of Us TV show announcing they will be covering the plot of the first game, I have to admit I'm slightly disappointed. I would much rather have a different perspective. Maybe from the Firefly's POV? Which leads me to my question. What movie, or peice of media, would have been better from a different point of view? My favorite example is National Treasure from the point of view of an FBI agent. The movie has a very serious, down-to-earth tone. Some maniac has stolen the Declaration of Independence claiming it leads to treasure. You risk life and limb to stop him only for the big reveal to be the maniac is correct. There's a crazy amount of treasure. The audience is left dumbfounded about how stupid the movie is (in a good way).

Ahoy hoy gentlemen, and welcome Imhran! I bring you a scenario that I have not been able to conquer in all my years of gaming. You're playing a first person shooter, and your character is on the roof of a building. You know there's fall damage, so jumping is not an option without facing certain death. So you find a ladder leading down. Let's assume no prompt appears on screen that allows you to press a button grab the ladder, what do you do? Because for some ungodly reason, in 30+ years of video gaming history and advancement, there is no consistent answer to this situation. A ladder going down that is placed at your feet can be a game ending scenario in first person shooters, and I have died to them possibly hundreds of times. I died to this exact scenario in COD:Warzone just the other day! Trying to just run at the ladder and the game assumes you just want to run off to your death. Trying to turn around and back into the ladder is sloppy and usually just leads to you staring at the ladder as you plummet. Seriously, how is going down a ladder in a video game still a problem in the year 2020!?

Mark Garcia

Greetings Menn of Max, When I first got my N64 I picked up a copy of Pilot Wings and, shortly thereafter, san arcade racing wheel complete with pedals. Why you might ask? Well as it turns out I had seen my dad show interest in the Gyrocopter levels of the game, but he often felt overwhelmed when I tried handing him the N64 controller. I got the racing wheel so that he could fly and pilot the gyrocopter, which I found him doing almost daily. My question to you is: What have you done to make a game more accessible to a friend or loved one who maybe wasn’t great at gaming, especially when you found a game, or a portion of a game, that you knew they would enjoy? PS: Kyle you have to share a story about someone other than your daughter. Just kidding.

StillGotGame

Hey guys. Hope you are all keeping well and safe. Whilst the general consensus is that this year’s cancellation won’t be the end of E3, what would be a best case scenario for the organisers this year? It seems that most publishers will still get their message out at a fraction of the cost and, if they can find a workable way to demo games, it may actually mean games can get into more hands digitally. What is the best case to make E3 still relevant ahead of next year or do you feel that this will force them to adapt considerably for 2021?

Kevin Robinson

Hey all! Amazon just announced earlier on Tuesday that they would change their focus to fulfill and ship only essentials in this time of crisis, so things like our beloved video games have taken a back seat for the time being. This set up the hard choice of canceling my Final Fantasy VII Deluxe edition pre-order (with that oh so sweet Sephiroth Steel Book case and the physical art book) over to a digital preorder directly on PSN (which still comes with the art book albeit in digital form). I’m just curious what you all think the impact will be, if any, on physical media versus digital in the coming months, and if any of you rely on Amazon for physical game preorders.

Aaron Kuten

I was wondering, do you all have a place you like to go to or a thing you like to do relax/chill out. It might sound strange, but ever since I was a little kid, I loved going in the deep end of a pool and just sitting down there in the deep in silence, thinking about things. I can hold my breath for a long time, about 2 minutes or so, and it's always been a great escape for me. Being in water in general for me is very relaxing. Is there a place or thing that can really put you at ease? Thanks.

Mark Ramirez

Hey Ben & the LCD’s, what’s your biggest gaming purchase regret in the last 2 years? Any games still in the shrink wrap?

Mark Polley

Whats up People of MinnMax. Have you ever noticed the name of the game Sonic Boom is a pun? I had always just assumed it was a random word on the end like "Mania" or "The Hedgehog"

Tom K

Hi guys, with the recent events, what do you think the effect of Remote Working will have on the gaming industry?

Yarrow

Hey Ben and the CLCs! CLC is also the name of a pretty good K-Pop group, so my question is if you were each a member of a boy band, which group would it be and who would be each member? Thanks and keep up the great work!

Nirosis

Howdy fellow Computer lovers, Covid has me thinking about how great Left 4 Dead was, how many hours I’ve sunken into it, and how much I want a third entry. If there were to be a left 4 dead 3, how would you change it? Unlockable character skins? Battlepass? Using real AI for the director? A survival battle royal where only 4 people get to escape and all other players become zombies? Thanks!

FlaminQueso

Hey howdy hey Hanson, the CLC's, and the Former Informer Imran Khan, Imran, come on, give us that juicy gossip on Kinda Funny! Be honest, is Greg Miller silently farting all the time? Tell us something that the general public doesn't know about Kinda Funny, but you've come to learn during your time working there. Follow up question: regarding the announced specifications for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, do you fall in the camp with Kyle, where tech and spec details alone don't get you excited at all, or are these sweet deets getting you pumped for the future of gaming? Thanks, Queso

IanTClark

Can you give some advice for leaving a comment that is a sure to make the cut for the MinnMax show?

Mark Cruz

This may be an unusual question but what do you do to keep your mind off troubled times? Mine is podcasts but all podcasts talk about COVID-19 and I didn’t even want to listen to giant bomb this week. Because of how much it was doom and gloom talk. I live In New York and it’s worse than you can imagine with COVID-19. Ironically this question is making you talk about COVID 19 if you read it

Carl Grenier

Heya! Still sick with my inner ear balance problem! Almost gone though so that's great! Anyhow, with the recent news of the Xbox One Series X and the upcoming PS5 news, I have a question. What do you think of the proprietary storage that Microsoft (and potentially Sony) will use for their next generation? Remember how well that went with the PS Vita back in the day? Especially since it's some sort of custom NVME drive (for Xbox), I don't see how the cost would possibly be low enough for people to be happy about it. What are your thought on that?
