Grizzled Gaming

Hey, gang! What is your favorite “guilty pleasure” movie? One you know is objectively bad, but you still love it. Personally, mine's "Mac & Me".

Donnie

Anyone excited for next gen yet? I know we haven’t seen a lot from either Microsoft or Sony yet but it seems like we should have. I definitely get if output needs to be delayed due to current events but wouldn’t it be a big hit with the community to get exciting news through the year?

Toby Martin

I don’t remember if you mentioned it last week but did you talk about the AC “gameplay” trailer? Do you all think that was gameplay? To me that seemed more like an in game trailer. Hope everyone’s staying sane and safe!

Jeorin

Salvé, Minnimus Maximus. After playing FF7 Remake and falling in love with the voice acting for Marlene, I honestly think it may be one of the best performances in any game I've ever played. What is everyone's favorite voice performance in a video game?

wittynicknamehere .

Hello, Hanson and the Electronics Adoring Acolytes. Regardless of your feelings about the games themselves, what are your favorite game TITLES? A few examples I'm quite fond of are: Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime Sins of a Solar Empire Guacamelee No Man's Sky ...and of course, the poetic lingual dance that is Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below. I unironically love it, even though I know I'll never play it. How about you fellows?

Geoff Enright

Hello MinnMax'rs I have only recently discovered a gem among media, and was inspired by this movie to ask the question, "How long have you ever gone not knowing about a pivotal creations in one of your favorite hobbies?!" I've lived over 30s on this planet, almost as long as the movie Mac and Me. And I am astounded I have only recently been exposed to the magnificent Mac and Me. It is so important to soo many people, obviously including you all, that it baffles me to not have heard of it earlier in my life! Groffles

Adam W

Hey guys, Would you consider doing a commentary track for Mac and Me? MinnMac and Me perhaps? I mean you guys like sci fi stuff and Mac and Me practically filled the great empty void between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. Look it’s a great idea. Thanks Adam Walker

Hiya Harry and the Hanson's Since we went on shelter in place, some friends from high school and I have dove back into Overwatch almost every night, some of them for the first time. It's been really cool being able to reconnect with old friends while playing a game we all love. As the most experienced player in the group, I've been able to train some of the newbies in how the game plays, some tips for the characters they like and often times hilariously leading our ragtag team to victory. Do you all have any experiences like this, where you've been able to help a group of friends learn a multiplayer game, and what kind of hilarity insued? Did you win more often than you lost? Are you still playing that game? Thanks, Joel from Batavia Ohio

Travis McGaughey

Hello y'all, Growing up playing MC Kids, I always chose Mac because he had cool hair. Are there any things that make you automactically choose to play as a character? Are you drawn to hairless freaks like Mac from Mac and Me? Thanks, J.WalterWeathermen

Jt

Hello Ben and crew, What hobby do you think has endless potential for a full fledge game? I don't mean a game like the neverending list of "'Insert word here' Simulator" titles. I'm talking high-budget, scripted campaigns and/or vast multiplayer suites. What hobby do you choose to make a game out of and what do you name said title? Extra imaginary points if you can avoid the "Hobby name 2021" nonsense.

DarkFishDays

Hi all! In your mind, what type of gameplay would clearly show off the power of a next generation console? Personally, I’d be sold if I saw more complex procedural interactions. Something like the original No Man’s Sky video with dozens of animals interacting with each other.

Derin

Hey Minnmax, Do you think Assassin's Creed Valhalla will embrace more of a BoTW type of open world experience; or will it stay closer to traditional Ubisoft open world design, since the company is already developing Gods and Monsters, which seems very inspired by Zelda? I'm just surprised more games haven't copied Breath of the Wild's formula in the years since the games release. Thanks, Derin

Lewis K

Hey team, After beating the FF7 Remake I bought the OG on Switch as I’ve never played it and I went back to the old GI game club and in the first minute of the conversation Joe Juba says, and I quote: “...really crossing our fingers for an apocalypse so they stop producing them [games] to really work on that backlog”. got me thinking though, what predictions have you absolutely nailed? Or have came back to bite you in one way or another? I know you love making bets Ben, what’s the juiciest score you’ve settled? (Also I noted Ben mentions Minn Maxing re: Joe trying to finagle the romance options in order to get that Best Bromance achievement later in the conversation which was also pretty amusing.) Cheers, Lewis PS every single mini game in FF7 so far: NOT GOOD

Devin Rardin

Hi! In honor of the new Minnmax interview show, which was really good by the way, I was wondering what preparation you guys do when conducting interviews? Do you have pre-planned questions?

Jordan Brown

Hey MinnWaxers, I've been playing through Trails of Cold Steel for the first time and absolutely loving it. It feels like a long lost PS2 classic RPG in the best sense. When was the last time you guys played a game (besides FFVIIR, Hanson) that made you feel a sense of nostalgia while still being completely new to you?

Bob Buel

What's a mini-game that is better than the main game it's included in?

Hyperlight Blossom

People keep talking about a Ghost of Tsushima "State of Play" Umm don't they mean "Summer Game Fest" exclusive?

Matthew Paxton

Hey MinnMax Crew, I never judge anyone for their tastes in video games, and we have a great community that just doesn't do that (it's just tacky, after all) but has there ever been a game that you were secretly ashamed of liking? I'd say a video game equivalent to Mac & Me, but as everyone knows, that is a cinematic masterpiece.

James Smith

Hey MinnTaxers, We all know the era of licenced movie video games is bygone. It was full of awful cashgrab attempts, but there were some gems in there too! What movie would you have wanted a video game of that never got one? Was it the 1988 classic 'Mac and Me'?

Jim Blubello

Hello Friends, have any of you guys ever bought a collector's edition of a game? I've considered it in the past but recently did it for the first time for the THPS remaster (I couldn't pass up that skateboard). Thanks,

Maniac

Maniac here, I've just finished rearranging my office, which included displaying all my numerous gaming collectibles. From a dozen Fallout vault boy bobble heads, a Doom Slayer helmet, a half-dozen Assassins Creed statues and a massive stack of poker chips from the obnoxious amount of games set in Las Vegas. What are yours and the teams favorite collectors editions or special editions. Anything super unique from your GI days?

Danielle3487

Hi Minnmax! I was recently reminicising and thought back on how much I miss video game midnight releases. My first midnight release was Skyrim. I remember 2 of my best friends and I begging our parents to take us. At this time, we were all around 14-15, had no license, and couldn't even get the game ourselves since it was rated M. Somehow we were able to orchestrate with all of our parents and we got the approval, but my dad pulled the short stick and was stuck waiting in freezing cold weather in November for a couple hours with us. I vividly remember the first person in line getting his special edition and screaming as he ran out of the store as everyone cheered for him. We all went back to my house, moved 3 TVs into the bonus room, played till about 11:00 AM the next day, and yes all of us got grounded for skipping school that Friday, haha. Worth it! So with that said, what was your first midnight release and do you have any that stick out as super fun or meaningful to you? P.S. Love what y'all do and couldn't ask for a better community to be a part of.

Antonino Laberdee

Hey all! What's your favorite game you have never finished? Love the show, Tony

Tim Lorow

I just finished playing The Outer Worlds alongside the archive of the Deepest Dive. I’m a fan of accompanying media with my games. For example I binged on mob movies (Goodfellas, Casino) while playing through Mafia II and I read through a book about Crete while playing Assassins Creed Odyssey. Can you think of a time when a game got you branching out to other mediums of the same genre or subject?

Aidan Vilchis

Hey MinnMax crew, I have a game for you to play. The premise is simple: I calculated the exchange rates between seven video game currencies and the modern U.S. dollar. I did this by taking an item from each series that has a clear real-world equivalent, and dividing the two numbers. It's your job to guess how many of each currency fits into one dollar. Obviously your guesses won't be exact, so whoever is closest gets a point. Also, for each series listed I took the currency from the most modern entry to account for inflation. Okay here we go! Q: How many Fallout bottle caps fit into one dollar? A: There are 5.03 caps per dollar. Q: How many Animal Crossing bells fit into one dollar? A: 109.65 bells Q: How many Elder Scrolls Septims fit into one dollar? A: 3.95 Septims Q: How many Rupees fit into one dollar? A: 2.94 Rupees Q: How many gold coins from the Witcher fit into one dollar? A: 3.45 coins Q: How many Credits from Mass Effect fit into one dollar? A: 10 credits Q: How many dollars from Grand Theft Auto fit into one U.S. dollar? A: 28.44 dollars per dollar. Bonus: Q: How many dollars from 'Mac and Me' fit into one dollar? A: .46 dollars.

Sean Mason

Hey MinnMaxers Long time listener first-time writer, what is one video game series everyone loves that you hate and cannot understand how others love it? -Sean M.

Eric Reitz

Hey Minnmax crew, What's a genre of game that you used to love but can no longer get into? For me I used to be a big a RPG fan and multiplayer gamer as a kid and teen but as an adult no more. I don't think the big games in those genres are bad or anything I just don't have that same type of enjoyment as I did when I was younger. Love the show and I look forward to all the future great discussions! - Eric R

Swiggity Swoo

Dear CLCs: is this joke funny?? I need to know. I was at a friend's house playing jackbox and the game honestly escapes my memory but the premise was "what's something really scary a newscaster in a tornado could say?" And my response was: "there's going to be a 4th Indiana Jones movie" and nobody laughed. Am I funny? Also did I steal that joke? I need answers

Michael Moran

Hi Minyu Force, What's your favorite Tony Hawk Pro Skater trick?

Mark Ramirez

Hey Ben and the cohorts, It’s a hypothetical world. No new games are coming out this year but you have the power to make one game have a single player expansion, what is that game? (This will be in the same engine, not a sequel, it is DLC) PS please let JeffM’s mom go

Shuffleguy

Ha Ben and the colleagues of Gaming, What artist have you discovered while playing video games? For me, I discovered Alt-J while playing the second episode of the first Life is Strange game. And recently, I have fallen in love with Low Roar, one of the bands in Death Stranding. ps for Kyle: Sam Porter Bridges not shaking hands is maybe the most "Corona-thing" I have recently seen in a game. Keep doing what you doing!

Hans Kleinenberg

As you know by now, Cyberpunk will have customizable genitalia, butts and breasts and have first person sex scenes. Do you think it risks losing out on the GOTY nod because some more prudish reviews might think they went too far? I'm not sure how much a GOTY title means to a dev when its sales will probably exceed 20 million. And I'm definitely not saying they shouldn't include it to increase their GOTY chances, but I wonder if you guys think it will even have an effect? Cheers P.S. Do a Deepest Dive on Red Dead 2, JeffM will never see it coming.

SalopianDweller

Ben, Kyle, Jeff, Suriel With the Xbox ‘Series X’ 3rd party gameplay event kind of falling flat on its face with the dearth of gameplay and that which we did see could easily be mistaken for current gen hardware. The games could all be 10s but did anything shown ‘sell’ anyone on next gen hardware? Can next gen gameplay really sell next gen, is 4K, HDR, and raytracing a tough sell via streamed videos, would showing someone playing current gen games and jumping into and between games quickly with 1/2 second loading, ‘sell’ next gen hardware better? If Xbox or Sony show me the console turned on playing a game and the fan is whisper quiet, I’m sold.

MickManga

I have been catching up on the Goty hunt. It was so funny to watch you guys be the Joker in Disaster Report 4. Will the Joker return one day?

R0CK3T5YNT5T

Hi MintyMaxxers! I was wondering if you ever had a moment in a game where the music led you to beleive you were truly part of the experience. For me, it was when I used to run Sword for Crota raids in Destiny. The music would build to fever pitch and it really felt like you were a god killer. The music in Destiny has never been truly appreciated - it is friggin awesome! Keep up the great work and much love! Keith from Toronto, Canada

Hayden Hodge

Hey! Sometimes music can describe a mixture of emotions better than words can. For me, some games also evoke emotional states that just aren't easy to pin down. For example, if something is a mixture of spooky, campy, creepy, charming, and somehow cozy, its just a little bit "Resident Evil" right? Or why can't I say I'm feeling a little bit "Nier: Automata" today and just have everyone understand??? What are some games that just hit you in a way that is difficult to describe? Try your best to describe it!

Christian Haines

What next gen features besides (maybe) better graphics are you looking forward to? More complex enemy AI? Quicker load times? Tighter integration of streaming? What else?

Christian Haines

FF7 Remake is the first JRPG I've ever finished, and I'm wondering what JRPG I should play next. What's a good one that's available on current gen consoles, even if it was ported over from earlier ones? I liked the combat and character development a lot from FF7 Remake, less so the ending admittedly.

Thomas Hoster

With The recent inside Xbox The Dirt devs actually highlighted that along with 4K 60fps they will have a 1080p 120hz which is odd wording but I belive this means 1080p 120 FPS. This is a good step for racing games. Do you think we will have even more options for performance presets for games? Do you think the wording with Valhalla being MINimum 4K 30fps could mean there is a possible 4 options? Or something of the sort Maybe: 4K high/ultra 30fps 4K medium 60fps 1080p high/ultra 60? or something 1080p medium 120?

Greetings Ben Hanson, Kyle Hilliard, Jeff Marchiafava, Suriel Vazquez, and perhaps a special guest or two! I’m staying with my family for lockdown and managed to convince my sister to play Telling Lies with me after listening to MinnMax’s interview with Sam Barlow. She hasn’t played a video game since playing licensed Harry Potter and Monsters Inc. games on her Nintendo DS but she loves it and it’s been a great game to play together, with her taking notes while I control the game. The beauty of this is that she can still be engaged with the game’s mechanics and story without having to learn controls or assumed video game knowledge (e.g. X to jump). So I guess my question is: what are your favourite games that are engaging even when you’re not on the controls?

Edgar Vazquez

Hey CLCs, would you rather: Have to buy the most expensive version of a game to play it at launch or have to wait till you can get it for half off?

Carl Grenier

Heya MinnMax crew! With the upcoming release of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, I've been hunting for an EU version of the collector's edition because it's so good compared to the NA one and that made me return to the classic question: Why does Nintendo always make widely different collector's editions per region? What would be a potential good reason as to why? In the case of Xenoblade Chronicles: DE, what could have possibly led Nintendo to decide to only put an art book for NA while EU has a vinyl, a steelbook case, a code for the full soundtrack,a poster and an art book? No to mention that Japan and Australia also have widely different versions.

Guy Incognito

Get a load of this, the outgoing head of Poland's Supreme Court said the country has been moving towards an authoritarian state under the control of the ruling nationalist party. This has me even more interested in Cyberpunk 2077. Media is social and political, it is not made in a vacuum and living in an increasingly authoritarian regime is poignant in the cyberpunk genre. Do you not only like seeing the sausage get made, but are you also curious about the kitchen? Fight the power, CLCs!

Jonathan Dinh

Hi Ben and the CLC's After watching your reactions to the Xbox Showcase last week, an article I saw on IGN stated that Ubisoft claimed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will run "at least at 30 fps" and it got me thinking. With Uncharted 4 being 4 years old and me seeing a lot of tweets about the anniversary praising how damn good it looks still, I think people might be looking for next-gen graphics in the wrong places. Personally, I would love for next-gen graphics to focus or have more detail in these areas: hair, lighting, shadow, physics, and probably most importantly, FPS. I think we are at a place graphically where more subtle graphical improvements or improvements in gameplay would be beneficial in the long-run rather than increasing polygons and resolution. What do you guys think?

Jason Wojnar

Don't know if I'm too late, but I love Tony Hawk and was wondering if the game introduced you to any bands you currently love. Project 8 was the first time I heard Dead Milkmen and I adore them to death. I feel like the series as a whole had a big impact on my music taste growing up.

Travis Brinkley

Hey MinnMax! I thought a lot about how the past generation features a lot of games turning themselves around after a rough launch (Rainbow Six Siege, No Man's Sky, etc.). With the recently rumored Mafia Trilogy being remade, I think this could be the perfect time to fix what kept Mafia 3 from being great. I'd never played a game that started so strong yell fell flat so fast. I guess my question would be, is this the perfect time for a Mafia 3 redemption story?

Mike Lynch

Dear MinnMaxers, with some fans already grumbling that the graphics for the new generation isnt a big enough leap forward, what do you think it will take to blow everybody away again? Will games have to look like a controllable movie, or will it be something we haven't even considered yet? Thanks, Mike from Maine

Ian Switaj

Hey Ben Hanson and the SOLDIER First Class wannabes! During the Deepest Dive on the Final Fantasy VII Remake (which was very well done, BTW) one criticism that kept popping up was how iffy some of the textures were (especially the view of the slums in Chapter 5). I don't know the veracity of these claims but allegedly someone on Twitter (https://twitter.com/necroalx/status/1260587848471908355) hacked the files from the game and lo' and behold the texture files are gorgeous! Could this have been an issue with the Unreal Engine in rendering it out? How common do you think issues like this are in modern AAA games?

Fielding

What is your opinion of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg? Definitely my favorite egg themed platformer.
