Hello, Minnmaxers! With little to no knowledge of what Bluepoint’s next remaster is going to be, I thought I would take this time to ask “What do you hope Bluepoint’s next game is?” Personally, I would love for it to be Demon’s Souls as that is the only Souls game I have yet to play and I absolutely adore the others. Also, do you think whatever this game is will be a launch title for the PlayStation 5? If so, do you think it’s going to be a must-have day one? Thanks!

spelldragon

Hey CLCs. Turn based RPGs aren't for everyone. Let's change that. You get to pick either a specific game (ie Chrono Trigger) or a new entry in a franchise (ie Dragon Quest). Now make it better, completely change the genre for your new, modern release.

Nordley

Hey team! These are some crazy times we’re living in, and I just wanted to know how you guys deal with an existential crisis. In particular, when gaming, I realize that a year from now I’ll never remember any of these multiplayer matches, and I start to think that maybe gaming isn’t a “fulfilling” way to spend my time. Do you guys go through this? How do you find that spark again?

Recently I had a conversation with a friend about Kingdom Hearts 2 and reminisced with him about all the great levels. Shortly after I self reflected to remember that I have never actually played the game; I just knew so much about it from watching videos and friends play it. I have been lying to myself and others for 14 years and thus believed I had actually played that game. So are there any games you’ve never played but that you have told others you’ve played so many times that you have come to believe it?

Thomas Deranek

Hello Hanson and the CLC's, I had an overlooked item in the industry to provide per your request. Though I'm not sure it is the type of prompt that you are looking for, it feels like a big deal to me. In this age of remasters and ports, there is one company that is setting up shop on top of the biggest gold vein in the earth's crust. The company is Nintendo, and the game is The Legend of Zelda. Which game? ALL OF THEM! With the success of Breath of the Wild and how it single-handedly propelled the Switch's successful launch, it baffles me that we haven't seen, at least, a port of all of the older 3D Zelda games. Think of how lucrative it would be if they packaged those up together or even sold them individually. It is a guaranteed success. Personally, I've wanted to revisit Twilight Princess and Windwaker, but don't own a Wii U to purchase them for. I know that there is the rumored Mario games being ported/remastered this year for the celebration of Mario's 35th anniversary. If I'm not mistaken, next year is also Zelda's 35th anniversary. I am hoping to get a similar remaster situation for the Zelda games next year. I'm just surprised that I don't see this talked about way more often than it is. Love the show! Keep up the good work! - Thomas from Kansas City, KS P.S. On a previous show you mentioned surprise that Kansas City, KANSAS was considered Midwest. Something along the lines, of this was said, "I could understand Kansas City, MISSOURI. Kansas City, KANSAS though?!" I just thought that I should let you know that those two cities are right next to each other, on the state line. They are basically the same city, just in different states (and weirdly, with very different governments too). I realize that you might know this and were just having some fun, but this is the first time I have written in since then, and I couldn't resist.

Hey CLCs, I've been playing PSVR now and again since launch. I must have played over 25 games, maxing out most of them and writing guides and/or reviews for them. I feel like I know my way around the PSVR ecosystem. However, there is one thing that I can't wrap my head around. Why are PSVR games so expensive? I just finished a FORM. It has amazing graphics, some cool puzzles and a forgettable story. I think it costs $15 and it can be beaten in... an hour. And you don't need to be a genius to solve the puzzles. They are pretty standard for PSVR puzzlers, even though they are implemented really well. For the same price I can get Cosmic Star Heroine, an RPG in which I can spend dozens of hours. I'm not one to judge games on their price/length ratio but PSVR is notorious as far as this goes. The Room VR (another puzzler) costs $30 or $40 and is maybe 3-4 hours long. On top of that, PSVR games rarely go on sale and as most of them are not available at retail the price barrier is pretty high. Is developing VR games really that expensive? I would imagine that once you have the tech down, adding more puzzles, more content, doesn't scale linearly with the cost. Do they need to be priced so high because the hardware is not that widespread? Then it boils down to the chicken and egg problem. People will not buy the hardware if they are expected to but 1-hour doses of experience for tens of dollars. And prices won't go down because people won't buy hardware. Any more ideas? Have you heard devs talk about this issue? What is their take on it? What can we expect with the tech moving forward? I love my PSVR and I'm lucky enough to be able to play review copies of some of the titles. It pains me to see such a great source of entertainment be stopped in its tracks by economic reality. Have a great week! Paweł

Hey CLCs, Escape From Tarkov pre-wipe event is happening right now which means the wipe will be coming within a week. The wipe is something the developers do where they reset everyone back to a completely fresh account to test large changes since the game is still in beta. Is there any chance Ben might try the game again after the wipe, where everyone is on the level in-game skill and gear wise? Also shout out to the Summer of Soulsborne channel in the discord, we're going to play all the Soulsborne games starting with Dark Souls 1 this weekend! Your freshly minted Twitch mod, KP

Juan Cabrera

Hello Minnmax! Hope all are well and enjoyed their holiday weekend. Obviously, no spoilers for TLOU2 but after the leaks there have seemed to be somewhat of a backlash for the spoiled plotpoints (e.g. gaming subreddits/ YouTube videos). If TLOU2 were say a TellTale game, I can see maybe skipping it at launch, but wouldn't the graphics and gameplay alone merit paying to play TLOU2. I mean weren't graphics and gameplay alone factors in determining whether you would buy a game or not? Love the content guys!!!

Jason Wojnar

Hi Folks, what do you want to see Naughty Dog do after Last of Us Part II? Those games are so grim it is hard to see them shoot for something even darker without becoming gratuitous or exploitative. Do you want another narrative drive third-person adventure game or a whole other genre?

Grizzled Gaming

Hello Benjamin and the Mainframe Admiring Associates! Piggy backing off Dunder’s question last week about your “most embarrassing text message”, what’s your most embarrassing work moment? I once sent an email to a client which was supposed to end with “I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” I mistyped it, corrected it with spell check, and fired it off. I immediately realized the last line of my email was “I’m sorry for the incontinence.”

Crayter

So, hypothetical question: Let's say you were running a podcast and were going to give away the cuphead soundtrack from the fine folks at Iam8bit to the person who wrote in the best question that week. Let's also say there was a big fan of cuphead who really wanted to win it. What kind of question would you suggest they ask? Do you prefer personal get to know you style questions? opinion or news related question? Or perhaps the more elaborate effort involved "this is actually a gameshow I submitted in the form of a question" type of question? What qualities help define a good question for you? Just curious, Thanks!

Victor Pham

Does Sony take enough risks with their first party games? Do they make too many cinematic third-person action-adventure games? What would you like to see them make instead?

Jason Kelley

If you could take control of a video game character and then go back in time as said character, what advice/warning would you give your younger self?

Alex Payne

Howdy minnmax crew I recently just beat Persona 5 Royal (it can be done) after 150hrs of minnmaxing my team I was done. When I got to the final dungeon I did everything I could to beeline it to the last boss skipping mobs running away and using items like they were going out of fashion. It had me wondering what makes you decide to stop minnmaxing and just start focusing on the story/stop doing side content? Also Jeff RDR2 totally worth going back to just started that up after Persona thanks you guys keep up the dope content!

Jason Dafnis

What little games do you play with yourself, like counting cows or not stepping on sidewalk cracks? Are you any good at them?

FlaminQueso

Hey howdy hey Hanson and the 'horts, What is the best mode of travel? Both in video games and in real life? Thanks, Queso

AnAttackCorgi

Hey there MinnMax and the CLCs! What're the worst and best gaming gifts you've been given?

Tey Peryie

Hello MinnMax, With the global sports scene on hiatus, I’ve picked up both NBA 2K20 and NHL 20 these past few weeks to get my basketball and hockey fix. And it got me thinking - you guys don’t talk about the traditional sports games much - so I wanted to know if there were any you play regularly or liked playing back in the day. Ben and the CLCs, what is the greatest sports game of all time? For the sake of argument let’s not count extreme sports games (as we all know Skate 3 is the GOAT!). Peace and love, Tey from Cambridge, UK

Richard Mortensen

Hello MinnMax, I've just dived into Final Fantasy 15 (shout out to xbox game pass!) I'm really enjoying the game, and having played only a couple of other Final Fantasy games I've asked myself the question: What makes a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game? There's some music, characters, spells and weapons that reappear throughout the games, but they change up a lot between each game, and they don't even connect storywise. I've been interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Nick from Atlanta

Hello MinnMax! On the Great GOTY Hunt this week, Hanson seemed a little confused about something for the state of Georgia popping up in the opening credits for Maneater, and I thought it would be the perfect topic to discuss for the new "overlooked in the game industry" segment. Tripwire Interactive and other game studios in Georgia, e.g., Hi-Rez , Adult Swim Games, enjoy tax breaks for having their business here. Georgia is doing similar things for the film industry as it tries to make both bigger here. It's a reminder that as much as we enjoy games for the artistry or the experience, some of that is dependent on the business side of things. Maybe that's where a studio is formed, which influences the people they attract, which changes they game they make. Something to think about! Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Neil Brown

Hey MinnMaxers, what do you consider to be the best feat in gaming you've pulled off?

Josh LaBaw

I want that Cup Head for my Wall, but I also want your thoughts on X Cloud. PSNow is way up, Stadia is trying really hard to get us to join by giving it away. Even thought Skype, MS Teams, and video call services like this are seeing huge increases in Microsoft Traffic, not a peep has been heard on X Cloud since the BETA earlier this year. Isn't now a great time for XBox to say like playing games with friends on Skype, try it with X Cloud integration.

Hazal Mohammed

Thanks for the suggestions regarding what to shove into my Switch last week. I also agree with Suriel and Kyle that Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore got released in a window where people weren't looking for games at the time. I ended up starting a fifth playthrough of Fire Emblem Three Houses because I never saw the Jeritza stuff that was added to the Black Eagles' route. But for my question, what Switch game do you regret not getting around to play so far this year? Thanks.

Cody Hester

I like to get games physically. I use Game Pass for the multiplayer component of games I play with my wife together with the two systems in the house. Do you use any services in a strange way? Shared Nintendo accounts, that weird remote co-op thing the PS4 does? Thanks!

UmamiUnagi

Inspired by Ben and Producer Jason thinking Van Morrisson and Morrissey were the same person, do the cohorts have any similarly embarrassing mistaken assumptions they can share?

Beau Bakken

Hey Ben 'n Horts. Will the game you know classify as your favorite ever be dethroned for the rest of your life? Link to the Past is my favorite. I've played a lot of great games since then and will continue hopefully to play many more, and yet I don't see a day i give a different answer to that question of which is my favorite. Similar feelings?

Beau Bakken

Years ago I remember setting a sports video game up with both sides being played by the A.I. and I'd have that on in the background like it was a real live game to halfass watch while doing artwork or whatever. With our current absence of sports situation, I kind of want to do this again. Is anyone else thinkin about buying older cheap sports games to do this?

Bob Buel

Afternoon cohorts! It’s time to play America’s fastest growing game show sensation - Suda51 Character or Indie Pop Band. So in every matchup below, one option is the name of a character from a Suda51 game and the other is the name of an indie pop band or solo artist. Can you find out which is which? (Note to Hanson: the ones with ** after them are the Suda51 characters) Dimitri Nightmare** or Youngblood Hawke Talulah Gosh or Nutberry** Bryan Scary or Jaco Checkbox** Kid Canaveral or Dr Juvenile** Orange Juice or Kevin Smith** Thunder Ryu** or Sun Kill Moon Blitzen Trapper or LOVE Wilcox** Kess Bloody Sunday** or Zero 7 Last Shot Smile** or Ugly Casanova Moon River** or Boy Pablo The Handsome Men** or The Ruby Suns Letz Shake** or The Remains of Brian Borcherdt

Alright, I've got something overlooked in the game industry... What the hell is going on over at Asobo. They went from making weird licensed Disney games (WALL-E, Ratatouille, up) and eventually Kinect Disneyland and Disney rush. Now, in 2013 - with their knowledge of the Kinect and relationship with microsoft, they made the ever mediocre launch title for the Xbox one: Zoo Tycoon. So, before too long Asobo was a core Microsoft support studio; doing some Hololense games (most notably, young conker), supporting Quantum Break, and being one of the many studios that was working on ReCore. Sooo, what's the future look like for this studio? Well, after doing support on The Crew 2, in 2019 they released the critical darling A Plague Tale: Innocence. Alright, so they're doing the ninja theory thing. Run support for major studios to fund a personal passion project which ends up being one of the best games of the year. But the weird thing is, whilst they where finishing a plague tale - they where also working for Microsoft on Microsoft flight Sim - which is coming out later this year. But... Microsoft still haven't bought them. When Flight Sim was first announced, it was even hidden that Asobo were working on it - wasn't revealed until a few months later. Asobo is one of the weirdest dark horses in the game industry that seemingly came out of nowhere last year. So, remember to keep an eye out for Asobo, whether it be a future acquisition or future games because it seems like they're finally out of the 3rd party support hell and they don't plan on going back

Hello Gang! I am thelassophobic, which means I am deathly afraid of open water and the terrors that could possibly lurk within. This never affects my everyday life, but it does however make certain parts of games nearly unplayable for me. I'm currently playing through AC Odyssey, and there are large parts of the game I simply can't play because I just freeze with anxiety before I even take the plunge. This isn't the first game where my irrational fear has slowed my progress, pretty much every game that has had underwater sections for the last 20 years has had those sections ignored when possible. My question is, do any of you have phobias or fears that have halted or hindered your progress in a game? Do any of you have any advice on how one can overcome a phobia that translates into games? Thanks a million - Brandon A.

Kane Dietzel

It's cool to see MK4 get some love with the character Fujin coming to MK11. Do you think they'll ever go back to trying a 3D fighting space?? Haha how crazy was that??

CP Severence

What’s the most overlooked game, or games, in each of the following franchises? Games that range from good to great that just don’t get the recognition other games in the franchise get. Silent Hill Castlevania Final Fantasy Resident Evil Assassin’s Creed Legend of Zelda Star Wars

betoq92 .

Hello friennds I was trying to get my girlfriend to play telltale walking dead game. As soon as you have to kill the zombie cop she was grossed out and didn’t want to continue. It made me realize how desensitized I am to gore in videogames and it got me thinking when was the first or last time a game made you feel icky?

Thom Blackburn

Hi minnmann (two n's), Is this patreon the first time you've had complete creative control over your content? Did you ever do blogs or zines? Feel free to reminisce about weird old projects you did when you were a younger minnmann. Thanks, Thom

Joe Kafchinski

I'm playing Final Fantasy 15 and, at the end of Chapter 8, 30 hours in, one of the characters says to Noctis, "learn how to use magic" and hands him a Magic Flask. It was the eighth one I had found in the game and I had been using magic since literally the first hour. What's the worst example you can remember of an open world game tutorializing an existing mechanic long after you had already figured it out? (I remember Watch Dogs 2 did something similar. By the time the drone tutorial triggered, I had completed entire infiltrations with it, never setting foot in the target area as Marcus.)

Hyperlight Blossom

I've long had a theory that certain games are so overrated, they become underrated, meaning: if said game wasn't so beloved, less people would feel compelled to be contrarily negative towards it. Examples of these games include The Last of Us, LoZ: Breath of the Wild, and Final Fantasy VII. What games do you think are so overrated, they're underrated?

Chris Lytikainen

I was just thinking why don't good Gundam games exist outside of fighting games or come to the U.S. for that matter? For such a monolithic franchise it seems ridiculous that we can't get something along the lines of Armored Core or Zone of the Enders. I mean it is in American pop culture, recently in Ready Player One, as well as one of Del Toro's main inspirations behind Pacific Rim. It just seems silly to me that all we get are Dynasty Warriors reskins. Hopefully, it is looking up as SD Generations came to the U.S. this time. It gets me thinking. So this is my question. What series have you just been begging for a good adaptation of in videogame form? (Something that is obviously popular but nobody seems to get it just right).

Michael Moran

To what temperature do you set your thermostat?

Travis Brinkley

Hey MinnMax, I don’t have a question this week, but an overlooked thing might be the Wholesome Direct that happened yesterday, which featured 50+ indie games. I also wanted to point out that Inside Xbox did a similar thing about a month ago and nobody mentioned it. So many cool looking games coming.

Karl Ruben Weseth

Hey, Ben and the gang! I I loved last week's decade chat, and thought you did really well to spotlight your own various perspectives on, and experiences with, the games of the decade, without getting too bogged down in "this game is objectively better than this other game" shenanigans. Dan's presence was even more delightful than I could have reasonably hope. I only have one piece of feedback, in form of a question: Why do y'all hate Demon's Souls? All the best, thank you for the words, and keep on making things better; Karl Ruben W. (somewhere in Norway)

Aaron Hannah

Hello MinnMax team, My question is what was the most satisfying game for you all to beat, whether it was something sitting in your backlog for years or not? I just beat Persona 5 Royal, and after owning the vanilla game since launch and having it as a "I'll get to it one of these days" type of things, beating it feels so good, especially since I loved every second of the 152 hours I put into it.

Travis McGaughey

Hello Cohorts! What is the largest group of words you can communicate using only 2 words? For example, saying 'Mom's spaghetti' communicates the first verse and chorus of Eminem's Lose Yourself.

Fred Dinovo

Howdy! Do any of you have random self care life hacks? My example: I do the dishes when I'm using mouthwash, keeps your hands busy and you get two things done at once. Efficiency. Thanks!

Cameron Wardlaw

Hello Ben, Ana, suriel, Kyle and guy who hasn’t beaten red dead! I’ve been thinking about game reveals and announcements from the past that absolutely shocked me (the reveal of Spider-Man PS4, the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, stuff like that) What game announcement, good OR bad, do you think would genuinely shock you?

Sean Mason

Hey Ben and the Crew Are nachos an appetizer, snack, or a meal?

Jim Blubello

Hey MinnMax, other than gameplay what aspect of a game is most likely to draw you in? Is it the music, art style, narrative, or something else?

hypnotowed .

It seems that all/most Indie games are of the 2D early days of videogames NES, SNES, etc... Is this mainly due to budget?? my favorite games come from the PS2, Dreamcast Era of videogames. Will we see a time when Indie games reach this level of design and graphics? will this era become cheaper for devs to recreate?? I hope its soon if it will. I need lots of Survival Horror games in this fashion! Thank you guys from St. Louis! cheers...
