Hello Ben and Cohorts, 2 months after release, are you still thinking about Final Fantasy VII: Remake? I loved that game and I loved playing it alongside the community for the Deepest Dive, but I find it has not stuck with me the same way the original did. After playing the original I immediately replayed it and did not shut up about it for 20 years. About a month after beating the remake I've played several other games and I'm barely thinking about it. Is it just that I'm not 12 years old anymore, or we have "too many" good games now?

DarkFishDays

What historical figure or time period would you like to be adapted into a game?

Mr Pop

Hey Ben and the CLCs - We’re only a ways into it, but I’m a little adrift on whether or not Geoff Keighley’s “Summer of Games” and IGN’s other.. “Summer of Games” (among other initiatives) are effective platforms. Announcements for things like the PS5’s upcoming slate or anything Nintendo were always going to cut through the noise - have you tried Nintendo’s new Jump Rope Challenge game yet, btw? - but I feel like a lot of games are falling through the cracks without those larger tentpoles giving those smaller titles visibility. This is coming from someone who has a lot of these presentations marked on their calendar too. I’m always feeling like I’m missing something. What do you folks think?

Hey CLCs, You know what I miss? I miss the good ol' lock picking mechanic that was used in TES IV Oblivion. Ah yes, I can hear all of the moaning and groaning. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I loved the more intricate skill of unlocking a door in that game and prefer it over what they switched to in Skyrim. My question is, do any of you love any minor game mechanics that were eventually discarded by game franchises or just made an appearance in one game? Thanks, Dan from Fitchburg, MA

IanTClark

Have you ever been in a fist fight or general physical altercation? If so, when and why? How’d it end up?

Jose Gabriel

Hi MinnMax crew, One thing I am excited for next gen is Sony and Microsoft's dedication to make the consoles quieter. The unique form factors of the new consoles, which have mixed responses, were probably designed to address the fan noise issues. I personally think its worth it as my launch PS4 can get pretty loud. (Not as loud as Ben opening a pepsi can during an interview. jk). Was the PS4 and Xbone the loudest generation?

Hello Ben Hanson (two Ns) and the Computing Lover Cohorts! You have just been given the chance to take an older game (i.e. anything from before 2006) and give it the Final Fantasy VII Remake treatment: super expanded story with tweaks, fully modernized gameplay, and the most talented team you can possibly assemble to make it. The catch - you will have to split it into 2+ parts with a minimum three-year gap between entries. What old game would you choose to remake from the ground up, and why is it Sonic Adventure 2?

Doreen Ford

I know y'all talk about tabletop games so would The Cohorts ever consider playing D&D? 5e is one of the most accessible versions of D&D in years and I think it'd be really fun to see everyone try on silly voices (if they want), strategy and cooperatively creating a story. And on that note who do y'all think would make a good Dungeon Master if y'all ever did this? And as always, "Endure and Survive!" (Ellie, TLOU1)

In the vein of keeping with one of the staples of MinnMax; getting better, what are the best ways that you see that game developers and publishers can work together to not just improve the quality of their game experiences in general, but the overall structure and implementation of innovation on their platform?

Donnie

Hey friends! Have any of you picked up new hobbies during quarantine? Right before it started I began my first DnD campaign and love it. That led me to an interest in minifigures so I’ve started painting them! It’s surprisingly relaxing and once I get enough practice in I’ll be painting custom figures of my own characters!

Joe Kafchinski

I love it when games let you approach a ladder from either direction and automatically swing you around to the proper side if necessary. Even better if they do it with a flourish, like Batman's cape or Ezio's robes. What are some meaningless touches in games that make you irrationally happy?

ThomasC

I've heard a lot about brutality in the Last of Us 2. Do you guys think killing is too well done, too brutal, for your tastes and has it affected your opinion on the game?

Ben Cooper

Hey fellow Ben and group. What is an obscure game from the past that you would love to see remade? I would really enjoy Parasite Eve getting the remake treatment or far more obscure getting one for the NES game Rad Gravity.

printcrowd print

What is something that took you be surprise while in voice that with randoms during a game. Example once while playing Sea of thieves this woman started singing a sea chanty in a Irish or english accent that would put a spell on you it was so professional sounding and she was like you dont mind if i sing do you.

The_Smak

Hello MinnMax, I recently finished Jak2 and while it was a fantastic game it has some of the worst checkpoints I have ever experienced in a game (sorry Kyle). Sometimes this involves going through a 45 minute mission only to die and be put back at the start of the level. My question is: What is one game you can think of with awful checkpointing and has it ever dissuaded you from continuing to play the game? Also, would you make any changes to checkpointing today to make gaming a more enjoyable experience? Thanks everybody.

Hello Ben and the Cohorts! When I was younger, I didn’t have the luxury of owing a bunch of games so I had to play Mario 3 so much that I knew where every secret and shortcut was. Same thing for the original Donkey Kong Country. What was a game from your early days of gaming that you knew where every secret was and had completely mastered? Thanks!

Mark Garcia

Hello Ben Hands-on and the Social Distance Practicing Cohorts, I play both first and third person games with the Y axis inverted. Starting any FPS or game that has camera controls means that I have to jump into the settings first and invert the Y axis. I wish that there could be a default console settings for this. Perhaps consoles could have a base settings API that devs could include in their game builds that would autoload some of the standard user preferences into any new games that are played under each user’s profile (camera inversion, subtitle languages, subtitles on/off). Is there a feature or setting that you have to constantly toggle on or off that you wish could be set as a console “default?” Many thanks for all the great content!

Brian W

I’m just gonna say it. We need E3!!! This sucks. We got half a presentation from Sony. Microsoft’s is so far away and who even knows when Nintendo is going to reveal anything. This is a very unexciting slow drip. How do you feel about this “summer game fest” so far?

Sean Mason

Hey Ben and the Crew, During the quarantine, my friends and I have had a Weekley game night via zoom. One game we've been playing is What's More Likely? In this game, one person yells out "What's more likely __________ or _____________." After, each player tells the rest what their answer is and explain why he or she is right. I have a few matchups for you: "What's more likely, Nintendo releases a sequel to Mario Odyssey in 2021 or Breath of the Wild 2 in 2021?" "What's more likely, the PS5 price is greater or equal to $749.99, or less than or equal to $449.99?" "What's more likely, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part Two releases by the end of 2022, or Metroid Prime 4 releases by the end of 2022?" "What's more likely, Master Chief is added to Smash Bros., or Sora?" "What's more likely, GTA VI releases by 2023, or Elder Scrolls 6 by 2023?

Hey podcast host and co-hosts! What is your preferred method of eating an Oreo? 3/4 dunk with fingers, full dunk with fingers, fork stabbed into the white filling, custom made Oreo dunking utensil or something different?

Matt Robinson

Hello Ben and the cohorts! Just joined and super happy to be here and be in this amazing community. I’m currently on my second play through of Breath of the Wild and would have to say Zelda is my favorite franchise. But I realized ever since the original NES title, it has absolutely ruined waterfalls in games for me. Every single game I’ve played since the original, as soon as I see a waterfall I have to inspect to see if there’s anything hidden behind it and 9times out of ten there isn’t. Just wondered if any of you are the same or if there’s something similar you run into. Thanks! And keep up the good work!

Taylor Owens

Hey is Apple Arcade still a thing? I haven’t heard anyone talk about it since the first month. Can we deem it a failure? Are any of you playing it?

Cade Mead

Hello Minnies! Just curious how the pandemic has changed each of your work lives as games journalists/freelancers. Only based on how it affects work, are you looking forward to getting back to normal some day, or are you enjoying the possibly new home-focused lifestyle?

Bob Buel

Howdy to the mainframe admiring associates, What's the best impression each of you can do?

David blessman

Finally watched the 2016 Warcraft movie. Should blizzard make a Starcraft one or an Overwatch next?

Hello Jeff and your sidekicks, what's a game that set the bar too high and negatively affected future games? Thanks to Etrian Odyssey, my fiancee is now slightly disappointed when RPGs don't let her draw her own map.

Crayter

Hey there CLCS do you think the ps5 reveal event was the last nail in the coffin for the rumored full backwards compatibility from the ps1 onward? Not only did they not mention it at all, but the release of an all digital edition is a bad sign to me. Why make the hardware fully backwards compatible if a significant number of system won't even have the disk drive to take advantage of it. What are your thoughts? Is the dream dead?

Steven Vella

What AI improvements would you like to see in the next generation of games? Is there a recurring thing in video games over the past few years that you would like to see improved? Red Dead Redemption 2 set a high bar in terms of how NPCs react and I hope we will see more of that in the next-gen.

Chris

Hello, sorry if this is a suggestion (or if somebody already asked), but when this "thing that's spreading" stops; and when you all return to the studio, can you all give each other a group hug? (Only if it's really safe!) But, right now, a virtual group hug will be fine. You all are lovely people <3

Jason Wojnar

Hey folks, Does outside noise bother you when playing video games or watching a movie? My roommate consistently leaves the door open to their room and talks on the phone and I always have to tell them to close it. Additionally, my room is right next to the kitchen and I can hear them chatter when they are in their even when the door is closed. Noise from the street is not as bothersome, but for some reason my roommate's noise irritates me to no end. Maybe it is because it feels like something I could control or could be made easier if they just had a little more consideration.

Someone tell jeffum that corn is not a vegetable.

Hello friends! Have you ever went back to a game and had some new revelation/ new idea about it?

Matthew Weatherley

Hi CLCs. When has a demo completely changed your opinion of a game almost immediately. I remember playing the global test fire for splatoon and I went from Meh to day one purchase in about 2 minutes. Sometimes game feel can convey way more than PR. What examples come to mind for you?

Karl Ruben Weseth

Hi all! With the imminent arrival of super-quick-to-non-existent loading times, the loading screen tool-tip will soon be a thing of the past. How will tomorrow's increasingly complex triple-A games work to disseminate the kind of granular information we can find in loading screens today? For instance, I'm playing Assasin's Creed Odyssey right now, going on 90 hours in, and I just learned from a loading screen that I can stop or choose a different sea shanty with the d-pad. How the heck would I have learned something like that – a helpful mechanic, but obscure enough its existence would never have occured to me – without that loading screen?

TimeBombTom

Hello CLCs, here’s a question for you, of you could pick any 8/16bit game you would like remade and in a different genre vein, like Golden Axe redone as a tactical rts or Zombies Ate My Neighbors as a survival horror game or cyborg justice as a FPS what game would you choose and which genre would it fall in?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! My wife, who has no interest in gaming, watched part of the Minnmax community Q&A with me last week. Besides thinking Hanson was a great host and really enjoying the banter between you all, her only other comment was that Kyle, and I quote, “seems like he could be British”. The truth is out there now, Kyle. Can we get you to say something in your native British accent?

Josh LaBaw

Howdy MinnMaxers, Can Kyle talk more about Stadia? What speed connection was he playing over (upload & download), what controller he was using and how was it connected to the PC, did he try tablet of phone? Did he know how far the data center was from his location (latency type of question there). Any one tried PSNow?

FlaminQueso

Hey Howdy Hey Hanson and the 'horts, *quick aside: If Kyle, JeffM, and Suriel are Computer Lovin' Cohorts, that makes Ana a Pikachu Lovin' Cohort, right? Official Title? Ana Diaz, PLC* If each of you were a Ninja Turtle, who would be who? and nooooo Ana doesn't have to be April by default. I mean, she can if she wants to, but she doesn't have to. Also, which mentor from your past would be Master Splinter? Thanks! Queso

Victor Pham

Was Photomode Snap an omen for the return of Pokemon Snap? Did y'all have some inside information?!

Travis McGaughey

What was the dumbest thing that you honestly believed when you were a kid? I'm not talking some bull roar an adult pulled on you, rather something you thought was a truth about how things work that sprang fully formed from your mind. I will give my examples: 1. I used to believe tiny elves lived in every digital clock, and changed around the numbers. I would stare at the clock for long periods of time, trying to catch the clock elves in the act. 2. I believed there was a series of pneumatic tubes crisscrossing the country, connecting every mailbox, and that's how the postal service works!

Rickfromatlanta

Hi all, with the release trailer for resident evil 8 Village out there do you think they will stick with the weird naming convention for RE9 if so what is the word going to be for that one. I have included some words to help personally I hope for RE 9 appendix. crucifix. intermix. transfix. -Rickfromatlanta

Rickfromatlanta

Has Suriel checked out Warborn it is releasing for switch physically and has an advanced war vibe? -Rickfromatlanta

It's Hugo's Nook

New Pokemon Snap just got revealed, how likely do you guys think it will support the Labo VR Camera? And if you had to pair an entry of a new IP with the weirdest Labo - the VR bird butt one - which would it be?

Joe Kafchinski

Scuttlebutt was that one of Sony's sticking points on price was the cooling system. Do you think the size and ventilation of the revealed console could mean they went with a cheaper cooling option?

Craig Marshall

In the discussions about the new consoles and their various features, one of the things that is frequently brought up is backwards compatibility. I can only speak for me but this is just not that important to me. How much do you care about backwards compatibility and would you not buy a console if it did not have this feature?

Alex Hanavan

In honor of Kyle being so wrong about Pokemon Snap, what's your favorite time you've ever been wrong about a prediction or something you were certain wasn't happening?

Maniac

Maniac from Chicago: Lets do some planning for a MinnMax Videogame, all of you (and any esteemed guests) will be characters and party members in the game. What RPG classes are you? Don't restrict yourself to just fantasy, If Suriel wants to be a Druid that talks to squirrels but also is a techno-mage who weaves nanobot swarms, let him! If Ben wants to reprise his FF7 role as a junk dealer, why not? If JeffM wants to be some kind of cowboy.. well there is already a game he can do that and really should! Kyle can be... a bard I guess?

AxeWieldingGoatMan

Can Jeff spend 30 uninterrupted seconds crafting and eating an imaginary sandwich?

Geoff Enright

Hello there CLC maxing traxxers! Hope all is safe and well, all things considered. Including to my nemesis, JeffM. How do you all feel about spoilers? And be specific. For example, I avoid 90% conversation, speculation and content about something I wish to consume prior to its release. For example, any kind of previews about movies, but I'll be a little more lax about video games since playing the game will also affect your decision. But i also think narrative content based on twists and surprises while fun will not have the same strength as a solid story. Ex: the sixth sense vs star wars new hope. If someone spoiled sixth sense I would lose more than if i was spoiled with a new hope, so the story and experience of new hope maintains I can get spoiled but won't have it ruined. -Geoff aka Groffles
