Hey howdy hey Hanson and the 'horts AND LEO! Quick, if JeffM, Kyle, and Suriel are Computer Lovin' Cohorts and Ana is a Pikachu Lovin' Cohort, what kind of cohort is Leo?! OK real question. Next week, there is a good chance we will see new games from the long dry series Fable AND even Perfect Dark! What do you want from those two games? And do you even want them? Thanks, Queso

How about a Deepest Dive on RDR2? @jeffm :)

So i was a big 360 fan back in the day, but switched to PS4 after seeing the initial xbox one announcement. Their stances about always online, no used games, and requiring the kinect seriously turned me off and made me lose confidence in xbox as a brand. Today, i have my ps4 always connected to the internet, i never buy used games, and i am always watched by my playstation camera since i also own the psvr. So heres my quesion: am i am idiot

I finished The Last of Us Part 2 and loved it. I know it will be a long wait but I can't help but think about what Naughty Dog might do next. I think about what I'd do in that situation, presuming it's a new IP. I pick up a whiteboard pen and write 3 rules on the whiteboard; 1. Not open world; 2. Not post apocalypse/not a bleak world; 3. No sneaking up behind people and pressing triangle to take them out. My question is, what rules would you give for a studio's next big game?

Matt Robinson

Hey cohorts. Awesome to have Leo Vader in the mix and my question is mainly for him. How stoked are you for the announcement of Skate 4? But a bigger question, with Skater XL, Sessions, and the THPS remake coming soon do you think EA are going to be too late to the party and do you think the skate game market will just get overly saturated again and we’ll have another point where we have to wait ten years to get a good skateboarding game?

Brian Schutta

I might be too late to submit a question, but.... Hey MinnMax hosts!! I'm starting up Red Dead Redemption 2. I challenge Jeff M to beat the game start to finish before I do. Winner gets a prize of some sort (I'll let Ben decide what said prize will be). Jeff, do you accept this challenge?? Best of luck and may the odds be in your favor, Brian from Minneapolis

Hey King Leo and the four other less important people on this podcast! Which Hamilton song did you have stuck in your head when you woke up this morning?

Greetings Ben Hanson, the CYCs, and the Pateron Posse, My family has an inside joke that we play on each other that all started back when I was in fifth-grade. The only thing that I wanted for my birthday that year was Mortal Kombat for the Sega Game Gear. My mother, having gotten tired of hearing about it for months on end, decided to prank me at my birthday party. I was opening all of my gifts, looking for game-sized boxes as I did (there were none), and politely thanking everyone for each gift I got. I finally got to one of the last gifts, a taller box, and ripped it open to find a box of Captain Crunch: Crunch Berries, my favorite junk-food cereal at the time. After that, I opened the last gift, a Nerf gun, and felt my heart sink slightly, feeling that I just wasn't going to get the game that year. I looked over at my parents: my mom had a static, unreadable face, but my dad was trying to keep from shaking with silent laughter. Finally, he said, "Hey son, don't you just love the toys that come in cereal boxes?" As it turns out, my mom had sliced open the cereal box and the bag inside from the bottom and placed the game inside before resealing them with glue. Since then, the tradition has stuck, and we wind up placing game and console boxes into the boxes of other things to surprise family and friends. I most recently did this by tricking a friend into thinking he was getting a WiiU instead of a Switch. Do you have any pranks/traditions that you do when gifting a console or games to friends or family?

Juan Cabrera

Hello Minnmax! Quick question. If there is an E3 next summer can we make a patreon goal of "Get Leo to his first E3"? Oh and Ghost or Mario this weekend? Byyyyyyyye!!!

Christopher Reardon

Now that Ghost of Tsushima is coming out, I'd love to get your thoughts on the best new IP of this generation. I think I'm still leaning towards Horizon.

SIDEWINDER17

Hey MinnMax crew! I've been catching up on Minntrax and was curious if there are any thoughts on doing any game-centric music segments (similar to those you've done on the GI show) in the future? I personally enjoyed the formula of going around the table to hear a segment of the track and the mini discussions about each one. I recall it mainly consisting of Ben, Suriel, and Kyle but naturally, Helgeson could participate in the segment too!

What's everyone's favorite game adapted form a book or book series? Bonus question: What book would you like to see adapted?

Hi Leo and the cohords. This question is for Leo specifically as i know he is a huge fan. What feature do you most want Hitman 3 to add that the previous two games didn't have?

With Ghost around the corner, is there a Studio Ghibli movie would anyone like to see adapted and in which format? It could be the movie, or the world they exist in. It also could be fun to toy around with one of the ideas in Unreal 5 when it comes out.

Hey Ben, hey cohorts, welcome Leo. I have a question aimed towards Mr. Hilliard, as the dad of the group. As you likely have to share your TV time with your daughter. I've been watching Cartoon Network recently, because nostalgia. There's a show on the channel called Craig of the Creek that I adore for the way it presents friends, support, youth and other wholesome themes. It's one of those shows that I'm happy this current generation of kids are able to grow up with. So, Mr. Hilliard, I was wondering, what currently airing TV shows are you happy that your daughter gets to grow up with?

The_Smak

Hello MinnMax, I have a little game for you. You guess the name of a pokemon based on the given clues. To make it easier the answers will only be from the original 151. I call it: Not Quite This, Not Quite That - Not quite squirrel | not quite turtle = Squirtle - Not quite charcoal | not quite lizard = Charizard - Not quite electricity | not quite another name for a vulture =Electabuzz - Not quite another name for marajuana | not quite needle = Weedle - Not quite something a pirate says | not quite bok choy = Arbok - Not quite another name for squid arms | not quite freezing = Tentacool - Not quite a great distance | not quite a dog retrieving a thrown stick in past tense = Farfetch'd - Not quite a tortoise | Absolutely 100% cyborg = Blastoise

Hey Ben, Kyle, Suriel, Jeffum, and newcomer Leo Vader: This is a longish story, but I'll try to keep it condensed. Over the last several years, I have been dealing with major OCD and Depression. Finally after my second year of college, I got medicated properly and have been having a lot less OCD thoughts and I've been overall happier. However, my motivation to do anything really gaming related has taken a nose dive. I absolutely LOVE video games and want to be in the industry at some point in my life but my motivation to play games has been sapped. I recently got The Last of Us Part II and got about an hour or two into it and quit and haven't picked it up since. That was almost a month ago. I just.... don't want to. The last game that I played and beat to completion was at the tail end of March with DOOM Eternal and DOOM 64. I don't want to play Smash which I used to frequently. I don't want to play games with my friends which we use to all the time. Now, I just blow em off and say I'm not feeling good or something. I don't want to do anything gaming. However, with that said, I have no problem WATCHING people play games though as I am CONSTANTLY watching old Replays and Super Replays. Am I alone in feeling this way? Have any of you felt this way before? Anyway. Love the shows you guys produce. Keep pumping them out and I'll keep listening/watching! Much love! DylanDuranged

aManNamedBabs

Hey there cohorts, do any of you have a particular fondness for a song from a video game you've never played? For example I've never played Gitaroo Man on the ps2, but after watching Kyle Bosman's playthrough of it I absolutely fell in love it's track "The Legendary Theme". Thanks for everything you all do and welcome aboard Leo!

Hey MinnMax - Long Time First Time Super Smash Brothers Survivor has whittled its way down to the final 8 contestants and it turns out it's the original 8 from the N64 days (Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu). Who's going home with the million? Bonus question: Who would most likely have found a hidden immunity idle? Ben from Ohio - bleasure on Discord

Hello Been, Cereal, Geoff, Kyler, and Leonard: Is there a game mechanic or major part of a game that ruined an otherwise perfect game for you? For me it would have to be the Batmobile from Arkham Knight, I found the car to be boring and too essential to the gameplay. Thanks!

Brian W

The Ubisoft forward pre show had a segment about a new trackmania on the epic store. Loved the original back in the day and was happy to see a return to form. I went and instantly downloaded it and had a ton of fun. Trackmania is secretly the best racing game out there. Check it out people!

Hello MinnMax! What is your favorite minigame in a video game? Personally I love Triple Triad, and have restarted Final Fantasy VIII many times just to play Triple Triad (I did not enjoy FFVIII). Welcome Leo! -ZPG

As you know, Paper Mario: The Origami King comes out this week. Looking at some people's comments, where they look at the new features and changes of the game with skepticism and yearn for a direct sequel to The Thousand-Year Door, it inspired me to create a game. I will tell describe a new version of certain, well-known games, where their perceived "gimmicks" has been removed, and your job is to find out the objective truth about how much better or worse the new version game would be. I'll describe the new game and you will say whether it is much better, a little better, about the same, a little worse, or a lot worse. 1) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword >In this new version, motion controls have been scrapped in favor of a Arkham Knight-style dodge/ counter system. a) A little worse. The motion controls aren't perfect, but they're a unique addition that feel really satisfying when they click, which is much more often than not. 2) Death Stranding >In this new version that we've made without the consent of Kojima-san, you still deliver packages, but now you must overcome waves of enemies with classic Kojima stealth combat (again, we did not ask his permission to do this). a) Much worse. Kojima feels deeply betrayed, by the way, that you would even try anything like this, and he ends your misery in a field of flowers. 3) Resident Evil 4 >Finally, the remake rolls around and we've finally removed those pesky QTEs. Instead of choreographed cut-scenes with timed-button presses, we've implemented a choose-your-path system, where one wrong choice could mean your doom. a) About the same. The QTEs in RE4 might be a bit too heavily used, but you're replacing apples with apples by replacing them with a choice system. 4) Tony Hawk: Ride >Instead of having players use a skateboard peripheral to perform tricks, we just up and made yet another straight-up buttons-and-sticks skateboarding game. a) MUCH better. No one has ever needed anything more than the delicious meat and potatoes of a traditional skateboarding game.

Hey Guys! On our weekly zoom call, my friends and I discussed what we would sell in an inconvenience store. The rules were simple; the item had to be usable and not cause harm to the user. We came up with some pretty creative stuff ranging from slightly warmer than room temp single water bottles to gasoline in a plastic bag. What would you guys sell at an inconvenience store? -Sean in Bridgewater, Massachusetts

Nick DeFeo

Hey Leo, Why do you think people like you so much?

Jared Buffington

Can you talk about pronouncing foreign words in video game journalism? I know this has been a beaten dead horse, but I do not understand why no one can say Tsushima correctly. I know that very few people in the press understand or speak Japanese but if the title of a game is mispronounced shouldn't that be something that video games journalists strive to fix? A simple way to pronounce Japanese words more correctly is by focusing on syllables and not saying the word as one single unit. Ya-ku-za for instance, if i have to hear Yahkuhzah: Like a Dragon mispronounced as well when it comes out later this year I will cry. Keep getting better by keep getting better.

Matt Corrado

Hi Minnmax crew! I've got a question that's a little off topic from video games. I wanted to ask if you've heard of [or maybe already watched] a Netflix show called "Dark". It's off topic, but only slightly, as this show is a crazy ride from beginning to end, and like a good video game, it's well worth examining and dissecting. The story starts off as a pseudo crime drama thriller but wow! does it go places. With the most complex, well written narritive I've seen in a very, very long time and brilliant acting that brings the whole cast of characters alive, this is a must watch. In fear of spoiling anything, I'll just say that there are multiple paradoxical situations involved. The third and final season was released last month and because this show was conceived from the start to be 3 seasons long, there is no sloppy exposition to try and cover plot holes and new story directions between seasons. In the vein of The Twilight Highlight Zone, I think this show would be perfect to hear you all analyze and maybe even watch along with. My only word of caution is that this show is like it's namesake and is quite dark. You won't finish an episode feeling "good" but moreso just downright compelled to keep watching. However, with games like The Last of Us, we should be used to that kind of thing by now. Anyways, keep up the awesome content!! And stay healthy! Matt

Hey MinnMax and welcome Leo! Way back when I was in 5th grade, I was home alone during summer vacation playing Brain Age on my Nintendo DS. Brain Age, super peaceful game, right? WRONG! I had one of the scariest video game moments of my life while playing this game. Out of nowhere, the touch screen on the bottom of the DS started drawing random shapes and squiggles. My young mind was convinced that there was a ghost trying to play my DS, and I wasn't having any of that. I threw my DS on the couch, ran out of the house as fast as I could and went to the neighbors until my parents eventually came home from work. I want to ask, what is the most unconventional/irrational way video games has scared you? Keep up the great work! -TheFarmerJosh

Howdy Leo and other couple-a fellas, It’s time to play America’s fastest growing game show sensation - Megaman X enemy or house music DJ! So in every matchup below, one option is the name of an enemy character from a game in the Megaman X series and the other is the name of an electronic dance music DJ. Can you find out which is which? (Note to Hanson: the ones with ** after them are the Megaman characters) Bamboo Pandamonium** or Infected Mushroom Bad Boy Bill or D-Rex** DJ PP or Rangda Bangda** Notor Banger** or Blasterjaxx Dr Doppler** or Sunscreem Phats & Small or Soldier Stonekong** Screen 2 or Eagle G** Deee-Lite or Sole Solar** Scrap Robo** or Whitenoize Omid 16B or Disk Boy 08**

Reading reviews of Ghost of tsushima one thing many reviewers mentioned that the open world seems repetitive and been there done that. Here is my question, do you think there is a evolution in open world game design coming? Game developers are really smart but their has not really been a real evolution in that design in a long while. Is it possible open world games are what they are and it is really about how well the devs hide that design so you don't think about it like in games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Witcher 3?

RevRando

Hey Bennie and the Jets, I have been listing since the good ole' Episode 0 days, and finally wanted to join the community. Just wanted to say thanks for all the content and positivity during the stressful state the world is in right now. My question is, where is the N64 classic? A few years ago, after the release of the SNES classic, a n64 classic was assured. With a lot of major gaming media outlets talking about what their choices for the consoles pre-installed line up would be. Do you still think that this is on Nintendo's radar? What games would like you to other than the obvious choices like Mario and Zelda? Also, Leo leaves GI right after Skate 4 is announced? Is it a conspiracy!?? Welcome Leo! All the best to you all and your families.

Cameron Logan

Hello MinnMax cohorts and welcome to the crew Leo Vader! I'm super stoked to see what awesome creative energy and overall fun you add to the great MinnMax formula! I've been having a bit of a life crisis as of late and would love some insight from you guys. I'm currently enrolled in college and have been pursuing a degree that I'm realizing a couple years in, I might not be as passionate about it as I hoped. Did you guys ever experience this? Did your parents push you to pursue something safer or were you guys set on journalism as soon as you enrolled (barring Kyle, I know he has the great story of his wife convincing him to pursue his passion)? Also to add, any other fields you think you'd love to study in as well? Thanks for the constant amazing content :)

Hello Ben Blap and the Blip Blops. This my be a week out of date but if you have a artificial heart can you call yourself a cyborg?

Jason Wojnar

Hey, I went on a first date walking in the woods of a Ukrainian Village and we decided to swim in the lake. Me being a city boy who has never swam in an unguarded body of water foolishly did not wring out my underwear after swimming because I was too shy to get naked in the woods and proceeded to have a wet blotch around my groin and buttocks area for the rest of the day (pro tip, nobody cares if you're naked in the woods). The next day we went out dancing and I ripped a whole in the back of my pants big enough to fit your fist through. Not game related; I'm just in awe at how two embarrassing things happened in two consecutive days during the a time when you desperately don't want these things to happen (i.e. first dates, getting to know someone). If anybody wants to share similarly embarrassing tales we'd be all ears.

Chris

Hello everyone, and welcome Leo! I am so sorry for doing this again, but I am requesting another virtual group hug!<3 Bring it in everyone! -Hug as comfortably as you can, don't pull any muscles!- Thank you! and stay wonderful!

Vasco Marques

Hello Minn of the Maxers, I found the best way to make a decision. I’m the kind of person that, when in need of choosing a place to lunch or a movie to watch, takes hours to make the decision, eliminating options that arise again minutes later. So I’ve constructed a simple system, (1) take all options and order them in alphabetic order, (2) divide them in equal groups respecting the alphabetic order (6 options, 2 groups of 3, the first 3 and the second 3 of the alphabetic order), (3) select one of the groups (the option you really want must be in that group, go with your instincts), (4) take one out until there’s only 2 options, (5) take a luck game, like Rock Paper Scissors, and see which option wins, if you’re not satisfied you will know the option you wanted was the other one. The best way to know what I really want is not to ask me what I want, it is to test me If I don’t agree to what is given to me by something like luck or destiny, I’ll understand what I don’t want and therefore what I want. Sorry, bye Vasco Marques 💛

Hey Giant Bomb! Wait... wrong podcast. Hello Minnmax friends! So recently Shawn Layden made the quote that he would "welcome a return of the 12 to 15 hour AAA game." In that vein, what game or game series would most benefit or like to see trim the fat? I would like to see Far Cry 6 focus on a smaller scope and be more focused. I feel that The past few entries have been throwing quantity over quality at us.

Brian Brown

Hey MinnMax crew, The original Paper Mario is my favorite game of all time. However, I have no interest in the newest Paper Mario games because they all seem to lack any sort of RPG progression, one of the things I loved about the original. It baffles me that the series has diverged so far from its roots to the point that the newest games don't seem to be for fans of the original. Are there any other game series which have diverged this much from their roots? Brian Brown from St. Louis MO

Fred Dinovo

Howdy all and welcome aboard Leo. What is a detail you'd still like to know about the next gen? Outside of price I'd like to know how long the battery is going to last on that DualSense controller. Can you imagine getting 20 hours? What a dream...but with all the stuff they packed in there I doubt it'll be more than 10-12. Thanks!.

JakeTwitchin

Yo Leo! Unlike most around these parts, I didn’t follow game informer very closely, even pre minn max. So I don’t actually know who you are. But I’m very ready to like you, as you’re spoken quite highly of around here. For anyone like me who isn’t quite acquainted with your work, what do you want the MinnMax community to know about you?

Jordan Brown

Hey MinnMaxers, Will we be getting a Special Edition cut of past MinnMax streams with Leo added via CG to help with continuity and keep him canon?

Sam Comiskey

Hey fam: when I think of the twin cities, I think of music. Not just prince and the replacements, but husker du, the hold steady, okkervil river and newish rock bands like Remo drive and Tiny Moving Parts. What’s in the water up there? Is there a ton of pride in the prodigious cultural output? You guys have a favorite local band?

Ben Shively

Hello everyone! After the Ubisoft stream a few days ago, I saw a lot of people online get very upset about what was offered. Of course I would’ve loved a Splinter Cell announcement, I thought the show was about as good as you could expect. My question is have there been any specific events like a year of E3 have generally pleased everyone? I feel like the average online response to any gaming event was “that sucked” because they have unrealistic expectations a lot of the time.

Dakota Salmeron

Hey everyone, glad Leo finally made it.  Quick question, do you think we will ever get to see a recap option become standard in games? I feel like with the length of some games and intricate systems we need a quick option for a recap. There could be one for controls showing you a list/preview of everything you have obtained so far. Same thing for story, just a quick synopsis of what has happened.

Brandon Milligan

Hey there Max Pack, How do you honestly feel about emulation? I feel like working at GI prevented you guys from ever talking about it in a meaningful way for obvious reasons. I want to make it very clear, piracy bad. Stealing bad. However, there are a ton of games that are not only unable to be purchased unless through resale, but will never be made purchasable again due to licensing issues or a number of other reasons. A huge example being Goldeneye. Not to mention a huge library of other Nintendo games that they don't seem interested in redistributing to current online stores. My question is, how do you guys feel about game dumping and emulation for preservation purposes? Thanks, love the content. Good to see Leo takin a walk on the wild side.

Piet van Rosmalen

Ben, how excited are you about JUMPCUTS in the new generation of consoles? With the faster loading times and all, do you expect to see them more often?

Sean Mason

Greetings Min Maxers: In the community discord, I made it known that I'm not too fond of cheese, to the point that if I had to choose to eat dirt or cheese, I would want dirt. I despise all things cheese related, ranging from Cheez-Its to Pizza. My question: is there any popular food item that you absolutely hate? -Best Sean from Massachusetts
