Topic : 2020 Plans before COVID19 Hi Ben and MinnMax Crew, With half the year done and COVID19 hampering everything life’s, I wanted to know what were the crews 2020 plans/goals and how have they transformed with the pandemic? Thanks

Thom Blackburn

Hi CLCs and the Ben! I have a bold claim: The concept of "replay value" dies off with gamepass. "Replay value" contradicts the value of being able to play lots of games because any extra time spent in one game reduces the amount of time you can play another! So my question is how does gamepass change game design in the future? Thanks, Thom

FlaminQueso

Hey Howdy Hey Hanson and the 'horts, At this point, are the expectations for Halo Infinite absolutely unreasonable? Current demands from gamers. Halo Infinite MUST be/have: 1. A reboot to the series that reinvents the franchise and simultaneously appeals to long time Halo fans while bringing on waves of new fans. 2. A cinematic, engaging, and interesting lengthy single player campaign 3. A fun and varied multiplayer that works flawlessly with crossplay between Xbox and PC. 4. A continuously updated and supported experience that will keep fans coming back for new content. Oh and also, it better look amazing! Cutting edge graphics across the board with flawless 4K/60 performance. All of these expectations added together seem unreasonable to me. What does Halo Infinite need to do to be deemed a success in your opinion? Thanks, Queso

Brian Brown

Dear Ben and Minnmax Crew, With the pandemic raging on in the US, I was wondering if you had any recommendations for online co-op games that I could play with others to be able to keep in touch with my friends who game. Brian Brown from St. Louis, MO

Taylor Owens

Hi there. Lots of officially announced games on the far horizon, which do you think will release first? Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3? Bioshock 4 or Skate 4? Project Athia or Pragmata? Starfield or Dragon Age 4? Breath of the Wild 2 or Horizon: Forbidden West? Final Fantasy Remake Part 2 or Fable? Hellblade II or Elden Ring? Overwatch 2 or Diablo IV? Avowed or Elder Scrolls VI? Beyond Good and Evil 2 or Star Citizen?

Rushdan Majumder

How many hours a day do you play video games? What is a healthy amount?

Shakenbake67

Hey MinnMax crew, I’m currently enjoying Jurassic World evolution during this pandemic and I have noticed that it really scratches that OCD itch. Do you think there’s any correlation with OCD and Management Sims? And also what are some of your favorite management sims?

Chris Lopez

Hello Ben and the Cohorts! With all the talk about removing loading times and being able to instantly jump into the game world, how do you see this affecting fast travel? Would you miss the short cutscenes like Spider-Man riding the subway or things like that? Do you anything is lost, like map exploration, if you can just instantly teleport all around the map? Thanks!

Donnie

Hey friends! If you were to design your own Smash-type roster, who would it have? Let's say 10 characters and you can choose from any consoles/games. Feel free to mix up how the game would work if you don't want the side-scrolling of Smash, I don't care go wild

Thomas

What’s a candy you like with a flavor you hate? Starburst orange for example.

Hey crew! After the Xbox showcase, I saw a lot of talk about how Microsoft seems to be heading in a “AA” direction with this next generation. A lot of the games seemed interesting but there wasn’t that one huge title that screams “THIS is the game to get you to buy an Xbox”. Even Halo was underwhelming for many because it just didn’t seem to be the polished, huge blockbuster that people want that franchise to be. Maybe I’m just dumb, but what exactly does it mean for a game to be AA vs AAA? I always associated AAA with high profile first-party games, but recently I’ve even seen some people refer to games like TLoU 2 and other wildly expensive first-party games as “AAAA”. What do all these letters mean?! Please explain it like you’re talking to a 5 year old, because this is all just becoming too many letters for my tiny brain. Thanks!

Aaron Capo

Hello! The mention of PlayStation Allstars on last week's cast got me thinking about my ideal roster for a new edition, if the series were ever to return. What would everyone's 5 person/thing roster be, pulling from only PlayStations IP. For me, although I know it's multiplatform, I'd love to see Cayde-6 in a fighting game. Thanks! And love the cast!

Braden Summers

Hey guys, How are you all? Are you finding this year tough? Hope all is well. Take care.

Jonah Abraham

Hello MinnMax crew, After years of putting it off, I finally jumped into Final Fantasy XIV. I’d heard the story and music was among the best in the series, and wanted to check it out. So far, I’ve been essentially avoiding most of the multiplayer components, and mainlining the single player quests, and have really enjoyed it! My question is - what MMO do you think has the best single-player content? (Best story, etc)

Zach McCoy-Davies

Hi MinnMax Crew I recently just bought an Oculus Quest and I'm wanting to fill in my library of games. Superhot VR, Beat Saber and Half Life Alyx have been fantastic but I WANT MORE! I have a link cable with a beefy PC ready to go so fire away, what games do you suggest?

MarriottPlayer

Howdy Cohorts! Remember The Godfather video game? I had it for PS2. I remember liking the GI coverage and the eventual review that made fun of Al Pacino not being in the game. What’s the weirdest licensed video game you’ve ever owned? All the best,

Brady Easter

Hey MinnMaxers, Jeff, how are you doing? No... I mean really. Anyway, I was recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. (It was so bad, when the test results came in, the doctor literally said, "I know we were probably looking at severe sleep apnea but... WHOA.") Turns out I just have a smaller airway than most people and it's been this way literally my entire life. To fix it, about a couple weeks ago I got a BiPap machine (a machine that forces air into your lungs at night to keep you breathing) and quite literally for the first time in my life, I got a good night's rest. I honestly had no idea that this is actually how sleep is supposed to feel. It's like seeing a new color for the first time or something because I'm experiencing something I never knew existed, which I'm finding is a weird thing in your mid 30's. All this got me thinking about experiencing dramatically new experiences and I wondered about you all. What is the biggest new experience you all have encountered in adulthood, especially one you never realized was there? Thank you for all you create and the community you've built! ~Brady Easter Edmond, OK

Hello! With game franchise revivals becoming more and more common, what is a series that would be better left in the past? For example, a Manhunt reboot would probably not be accepted into today’s society. Other examples would be franchises that have such outdated game mechanics that they would not bring anything new to the table.

Jordan Holmdahl

Hello everyone! So I've started playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time on Vita and I have been thoroughly enjoying the game. However, one sequence stood out to me as rather baffling. Early on a clown poisons the water supply for an entire castle, and almost everyone inside dies terrible deaths; then, 25 minutes later my character literally suplexed a Ghost Train. Such a dramatic shift in tone really made me laugh. Do you have any hilarious or bizarre stories where you experienced such dramatic tonal whiplash with a game? Keep up the excellent work, Jordan from St. Paul, MN.

Mrlopez333

Ok Ben... I think i have the edition of "Does it have a colon" that you've been waiting for. 1. Remnant: From the Ashes 2. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. Rayman Legends 4. Nier: Automata 5. Assassin's Creed Syndicate 6. Worms Battlegrounds 7. Monster Hunter: World 8. Star Wars Battlefront 9. Dragon Age: Inquisition

The_Smak

What is one game that you have played and enjoyed that you feel no one else has? Mine is Azurik: Rise of Perathia for the Original Xbox. It's a 3rd person action adventure that is also a collectathon and includes several huge open words to explore. It was received with mediocre to bad reviews, but I loved it and still love it.

Tey Peryie

Hello Team, What’s the most you’ve ever won on a bet? To clarify, doesn’t have to be money - just what’s the win you’re most proud of! Cheers, Tey

Jeorin

I've got a quiz for you! This quiz involves strange and silly dialogue from RPGs on the original Playstation. I will give you the quote and the name of the person who said it. See if you can name the game these odd quotes come from: "Hmm. 'Plan' huh? Now, let me tell you my plan. My plan is to get a hot prize from you. Tut!" - Lenus the Wingly Answer: Legend of Dragoon "Hey! Hey! I haven't finished my introduction! There's the four of us. Odessa's Special "Cocytus" Corp. We're broadcasting clandestinely! Since we didn't have contact, let's at least do some bold propaganda. Ha. Ha. Ha." - Ptolomea of Odessa Answer: Wild Arms 2 (after stabbing main character with a sword) "Is he dead?" "Oh... I'm not afraid of a dead zombie!" - Balio and Sunder the Horsemen Gangsters Answer: Breath of Fire 3 "Chaaaaaacooo!!!! I'm gonna eat you!!!!!" - Sid the Winger Answer: Suikoden 2 "Yeah, baby! I'm gettin' hard! So hard for you, baby!" - Gilbert the Centaur Answer: Legend of Mana

sup MinnMax crew, longtime fan here.. first thing- thank you for all the great stuff! and welcome Leo. now, i have something fun: create the utlimate video game meal! (Pick one of each to build a Tastey Game!) • beverage = type of game • vegetables = setting/ location • starch = art style/ theme • meat = character(s) • sauce/ seasoning = music beverage- • coconut water (3D action platformer) • cashew milk (first person horror) vegetables- • brussel sprouts (Cyberpunk city) • broccoli (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) starch- • mashed potatoes (dark, realistic, dramatic) • corn bread (colorful, cell-shaded, anime) meat- • roasted herb chicken (Samus Aran) • smoked salmon (Geralt of Rivia) sauce/ seasoning- • creamy garlic (chill lo-fi Zelda beats) • tangy bbq (THPS3 soundtrack)

My question is about Cuphead coming to PS4. In an interview Ben did at GI a few years ago, with Marija Moldenhauer from MDHR, when asked about exclusivity, she definitively answered that it would be an Xboxconsole exclusive forever. It's great that Switch and PS4 owners now get to play this great game, but do you have any idea what could have maybe changed after such a certain answer? I think comparing developers usual answer being something like"we'll see what happens", it's just an interesting shift to me.

Sean Mason

Greetings Ben and the crew: Here's a hypothetical, you're favorite video game character shows up at your front door asking you for help; who shows up, and how do you react? -Sean from Bridgewater MA

Hello cohorts, my question why do so many games of a similar genre release in the same year? For myself I love life sims games and boy does 2020 deliver, Rune Factory 4 Special, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Story Of Seasons Friends Of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon One World. Will I play them all, you betcha. But did make me wonder how so many similar games from 3 different developers all launched around each other.

Noah D.

Hi MinnMax crew! I'm super deep into Halo hype right now and I've started playing a lot of 1v1 games with friends again. So i'm wondering, if you could go 1v1 with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be, and what game? Noah- Los Angeles

Kris

Hey MinnMax crew, hope you are all well today. I asked this in the discord but I’m curious on your opinions. What’s the hardest choice you had to make in a video game. I would say one of mine was in mass effect three when I had to choose between the Geth and the Quarians. Obviously I had to pick the Quarians because of Tali. Hope you all are having a wonderful day.

Mason

Hello from So Dak cohorts. I was really excited when you were talking about old RPG's last week I thought I was gonna hear mention of my favorite The Legend of Dragoon, but oh well. My question is with the new consoles having a launch version with no disc drive do you think companies are going to have to start changing their collectors editions of games since there is a possibility that more and more people will need digital copies instead of hard copies?

Joe Dean

Hey Ben and everybody, Do you guys think that in the universe of The Last of Us people still eat mushrooms? Or do you think that cordyceps have made people so afraid of fungus that they won't touch the stuff? Maybe they're only put on pizza or mushroom and swiss burgers? Please I need the answer. Thanks, Joe Dean

Hey gang! This year I've played both Ape Out and Untitled Goose Game, and I felt that they were both excellent encapsulations of the spirit of being an ape and a goose, respectively. I wanted to see what kind of game genres you would assign to these specific animals, then give your game a funny name, and Hanson will give one of you a point depending on whose game sounds the best. The winner will be deemed the Beastmaster of Minnmax. 1. Giraffe 2. Angler Fish 3. Owl 4. Sloth 5. Aardvaark Love, McGooch

Fred Dinovo

Silent Protagonists! I think they have worn out their welcome. They had a certain charm back in the 16 bit era, but now they seem so out of place with how common voice acting is in games. Having said that, what are your favorite and least favorite examples of a silent protagonist? For me, the best would be Wander in Shadow of the Colossus. Who is he going to talk to anyway, a pile of rocks? Makes since he would be silent. Worst recent example is the Luminary in DQXI, you don't experience any character development in an 80 hour RPG because the guy has no character. "..." Fred

Hey guys, What Next-Generation game has you the most impressed on a technical level? What I mean is, what game (so far) has made you think "Wow, they couldn't do this on a PS4/X1!" For example - The Medium on XSX. Being able to shift from one version of the world to another in The Medium is awesome! We see it a lot in 2D games like Guacamelee, but now we have consoles powerful enough to do it in 3D environments with The Medium sets future games up for cool unique world ideas.

IanTClark

If you could add DLC to any game of your choosing, what game would it be? What would be the theme/focus?

Dunder

Hey MinnMax Crew, No question but more of a PSA on this Xbox-focused show: anyone interested in the Xbox ecosystem should check out Microsoft Rewards. It’s one of the best rewards programs out there. Points are earned by making purchases, completing Game Pass quests, earning achievements, completing Bing searches on PC and mobile, and many more ways. Insert your Bing jokes here but you can just make a bunch of quick random searches to get your max daily points and they can be redeemed for Game Pass codes, Xbox Live, Microsoft gift cards, and restaurants just to name a few. I’ve been banking points for years and will be getting a Series X for free later this year.

Matthew Weatherley

G'day Minnmax team What is the most dangerous. Green or Red barrels. Also as a follow up what is your favorite application of explosive barrels in a video game.

Cameron Logan

Hey there MinimumMaximus, I've been playing through Ghost of Tsushima and revisiting Halo 2 recently and noticed a really fun parallel both games have. The main player character in both games are referred to as a "demon" and have an aura of intensity when the npcs talk about them or reference their actions. What are your favorite nicknames in videogames that just ooze badass?

Morne

Hi Leo and the Vaders What obscure film franchise would you like to see adapted into a videogame?

Matt Robinson

Hey Ben and the crew! I was thinking about Mario games and what technically does and doesn't count as a Mario game, and I think I came up with a good system. A Mario game must meet at least two of the following requirements: 1) "Mario" must be in the title, 2) Mario must be playable, and 3) Mario must be the main character. So for example, Mario Power Tennis would be a Mario game, but Luigi's Mansion is not. Using this logic, I'm hoping you can answer the age old question: is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island a Mario game?

Jason Wojnar

Hi everybody, Ghost of Tsushima question, how often do you accidentally swipe down on the touchpad and start bowing at the most inopportune moment. I swear it happens to me about 5 times a play session. Is it just me? Maybe I move the right analog stick with the bottom part of my thumb instead of the top. In a more general sense, has a game ever made you closely analyze and/or change your controller technique?

Tadatoo

How are you and what's your favorite colour?

Guy Incognito

Howdy CLCs. Not counting podcasts, you ever put something on in the background to enhance the vibe or atmosphere of another medium you're consuming? I' ve been doing this a lot this year. I've had Samurai Champloo on while running through Ghost of Tsushima's filler content and I've been listening to the Nier: Automata soundtrack while reading the Automata short story collection. Before that, I put Midnight in Paris*** on in the background when I was in the homestretch of The Sun Also Rises, I read the last short story of Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies in an Indian restaurant. You folks doing stuff like this or is that information overload? ***Woody Allen's a creep

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey cohort! Do any of you have any "meta" game competitions going between friends? Like do you intentionally try to beat each other's scores on anything or something? For example, my brother and i have been competing with who can get the most platinum trophies (i am currently down by 2 😭). Thanks, and welcome aboard Leo! (And loving your personal channel so far!)

LaRay M. Hare

Hello MinnMax (2 Enns), With the 9th Generation bearing down on us, when are we going to get MinnMax (2 Enns) predictions? How does a digital game ownership shift how we view/play/develop games? Will we see more DRM hidden as “Games As A Service” (I.e. Destiny or The Division)? I’m curious to hear what the Panel predicts going into the 9th Generation. Also, welcome Leo Vader! -LaRay M. Hare aka BluMayhem

Christopher C. Castillo

Hey, Ben and the Jammin's, I really enjoyed your discussion of this generation's new IPs. I hadn't realized just how many there were! However, I found it odd that there wasn't much discussion about one of this generation's largest new IPs, No Man's Sky. While it may not seem like a game that needs a sequel, and thus not a new franchise IP, it has been regularly adding new content since 2016. In that time it's added base-building, fleet management, crossplay multiplayer, a 30-hour story campaign, full VR support, weekly multiplayer events, procedural dungeons, and thousands of other gameplay features and enhancements. While sales numbers haven't been released publicly, it's concurrent players on Steam, its cyclical placement at the top of best-sellers lists, and various re-releases on different platforms demonstrates its selling power. It was estimated to have sold over two million units when it launched in 2016. Sean Murray said that the numbers surrounding the release of NEXT were comparable to that of a AAA release. This is backed by information that shows their studio's cash increased by over 70 million dollars between launch and 2018 when NEXT released (1). Additionally, in the month since it released on Xbox Game Pass it also gained over a million new players through that service alone. In a recent blog post Sean states "It’s been a real surprise too to see No Man’s Sky sitting above the likes of Red Dead as the most played game on GamePass." (3, 4) As a final point, I do think it is an IP that will continue onto the next generation of consoles, as Hello Games still seems interested in adding even more to the game. Also, a next-gen version or sequel could generate things the PS4 couldn't dream of. What do you think? Is No Man's Sky one of this generation's best new IPs or am I just biased? Thanks! Chris from Texas P.S. If you're still skeptical because of how it launched, check out Internet Historian's video The Engoodening of No Man's Sky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5BJVO3PDeQ It's genuinely funny, yet honest, take on the whole debacle that really adds context to the whole thing. Hello minnmax crew! First time writing in, long time listener. To follow up yesterday conversation about Battleborn, I'll tell you my amazing experience with the game. Started with beta until launch and immediately fell in loved with the characters and how it was played. Overtime on Xbox, some community people made up a xbox battleborn league for about 5 seasons long. Me and friends was in every season and made incredible friends along the way also! If it wasnt for battleborn community on xbox I wouldn't met over 100 friends on friends list to date. As far battleborn game itself, gearbox didnt treat it well after launch with alot of microtransactions with DLC character and operations that was over price as well cosmetics. My question is what game you made the most friends on? Thanks for everything you do and much love. P.s. Gigantic was my favorite new IP of this generation. Rest in peace ❤

Skyler Denning

What's Up Minnmax! I just wanted to say thank you. I use your content a lot to decompress and relax after work. You guys make a big difference in my everyday life. Thanks again and keep it up.
