Hello Ben Hanson and the CLC's (That's the Camelot Loving Cohorts). I joined the patreon just now because in last weeks episode, Kyle made an offhand reference to the 1995 Disney movie "A Kid In King Arthur's Court". Specifically the scene where the hero blinds (and also implicitly kills) the secondary bad guy with the impossibly powerful laser from his portable CD player. I write in because, despite that being a childhood staple movie for me, that's quite literally the first time I have ever heard another human being outside of my family acknowledge that movie existing at all. It genuinely flabbergasted me to hear a reference to it on a podcast in 2020. So I ask a question: Do any of y'all have a piece of media like this? Something that had been a staple in your childhood, or even in the present day, that you have never once heard another person mention or reference in any context? Thanks for all the great content, and I can't believe it's something this weird that finally pushed me to sign up. - Brent Johnson

Hi Cohorts!! Some of us patrons in the sports channel of discord have started a MinnMax Fight Club where we pick fights from upcoming UFC fight cards and at the end of the year we see how everyone did. I thought it would be fun to have the cohorts as a group submit their own picks. The rules are pretty simple we submit picks for the main card (usually five fights but sometimes four), we also submit a condition like X-fighter wins via submission, KO or decision and that is about it. To keep things simple the cohorts can skip the condition part and just pick a winning fighter. Picking fights really is a crap shoot so no pressure in being wrong at all. Here are the fights for this weeks UFC Fight Card with each fighters record in parentheses with the first two being the main and co-main event. I've also added the weight class. Byyyyeeee, alex ^___^ Bantamweight (135): Frankie Edgar (22-8-1) vs Pedro Munhoz (18-4-0) Light Heavyweight (205): Ovince Saint Preux (24-14-0) vs Alonzo Menifield (9-1-0) Light Heavyweight (205): Marcin Prachnio (13-4-0) vs Mike Rodriguez (10-4-0) Women's Flyweight (125): Mariya Agapova (9-1-0) vs Shana Dobson (3-4-0) Welterweight (170): Daniel Rodriuguez (12-1-0) vs Takashi Sato (16-3-0) P.S. I'll write in the following week to let you guys know how you did and how you are overall doing for the year!

What fictional world or place would you want to visit?

Hey team! Tell us about the dumbest enemy idea/character in a game. Spoilers ahead for dead space three fast forward 15 seconds. The big bad, the final boss in Dead space 3 is ridiculous! It’s the moons! the moons were hungry and wanted to eat you so they created a device called the marker that would send you up to them to be eaten!

As an original producer for g4 back when it launched I watched a channel be totally mismanaged and run into the ground by executives that had never touched a controller while the few of us that were gamers were looked at like lunatics when we came up with weird and wacky gamer ideas. Now that it is coming back in some form do you think that television or tv like formats work for gaming or should this live with the twitches and shows like yours?

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! As you may recall, I love Monster Hunter an almost unhealthy amount. This past week, I finally got the extremely rare Guard Up Jewel after 1,431 hours of play. This is definitely the longest period I can recall searching for an item, as the next closest is probably my Gjallarhorn (pronounced yahl-lar-horn) drop at 935 hours in Destiny. Have any of you gone an exceptionally long time without a drop that you can remember? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

What are your plans regarding buying the next-gen consoles?

Taylor Owens

Are people sleeping on Baldur’s Gate III right now? It seems to be getting overshadowed by Cyberpunk 2077 and new consoles, but I have a feeling that game could be big. A well liked studio coming off a string of critical darlings to make a long awaited sequel in a beloved franchise seems a recipe for success. I believe there are a lot of people like me who wanted to get into Baldur’s Gate II or Divinity II, but couldn’t get past the isometric camera. I think making this game look and feel more like a Dragon Age or Mass Effect could launch it into the mainstream similar to The Witcher 3.

Howdy there CLC'S, Got a couple follow-ups to last weeks salad controversy: 1) are hotdogs sandwiches? 2) is a poptart a ravioli? 3) is cereal soup? Thanks for clearing this up!

Sean Mason

Hey guys! If you could reexperience eating a specific food for the first time, which would it be and why? -Sean M

I forced myself to stop playing Destiny 2 after about 400 hours because I realized that I was literally losing sleep from thinking about it constantly. I ignored all other games, only read and listened to Destiny-related content and nearly let it consume my life. My question is, what game(s) have you quit playing for your own well-being?

DarkFishDays

Do you look at in-store reviews? Instead of showing an average star rating, would you prefer a method like the Netflix DVD rating system which shows a predicted rating based on your past reviews? I know I’m crazy for still using Netflix DVDs, but that rating system is so useful for finding new titles. I wish there was something similar for games.

Trey

I'm an avid motorcyclist, and unfortunately my history of crashes and injuries are favorite stories of my group of friends. My question is, what's the worst injury you've had, or your best injury story?

Scott Castro

Hey Ben, Ana, Kyle, and Leo I was playing an end-game mission in Destiny 2 this week, and was genuinely struck by quality of the art direction, creativity, and world-building for a piece of content that I'm confident less than 10% of people who play Destiny will ever access (the most hardcore of the hardcore). It was better than anything you see in the base campaign and required an experienced team to complete it to the end. This made me think to ask: What's the coolest / most striking thing you've seen in a game that, if you had to guess, maybe less than 10% of players found or experienced?

Tommy Carver-Chaplin

Hey computer lovers. What's your proudest piece of work in or out of MinnMax (be specific!)

Tanner Hoisington

I have found that I tend to bounce off NES and SNES games pretty hard as someone who grew up with a N64. This is the same for the games offered by the Switch online service. But to my surprise, I have really enjoyed my first true Kirby game with Kirby Super Star on the Switch. The game looks nice and there is a pretty big variety of powers Kirby can access. What is the game that has hooked you the most on the Switch's online service collection, and were there any big surprises?

Tadatoo

Good afternoon cohort, With a new Arkham game and Rocksteady’s new game being shown off for the first time this weekend, which Arkham game was your favorite? Mine is Arkham City, I loved the story in that game and it was incredibly satisfying to soar through the skies. Also Arkham Knight was incredibly disappointing with the dumb bat-mobile.

RevRando

Hey BKLA! So I went on a Float Trip with a few people who are all non-gamers, and I had the great responsibility of being the designated DJ. After a few hours I changed things up and played, “Last Surprise ” from the Persona 5 soundtrack. Everyone fell in love with it and we ended up playing the entire album. My question is have you ever recommended video game music to non gamers? Also, what’s your favorite video game to recommend to anyone that loves music? Thanks!

IanTClark

I got an email from LinkedIn telling me that I’m being noticed. What should I do?

Adam W

Hey Hanson and crew! Long time no...uh podcast submission.. MinnMax Community PSA! Community Game Nights are back after a long hiatus! It returns this weekend, Friday and Saturday night! Halo: Combat Evolved is the game we are playing as we prepare for Part 3 of the Deepest Dive! Should I have submitted this for Part 2 of the Deepest Dive? Probably, but I forgot! We have members of the MinnMax discord lined up to play on Xbox and PC! If you want to get in on the fun, stop by the community gaming channel! Adamwalkertexasranger

Fabled Ursa

Hello four cohorts of the apocalypse. Which video game have you spent the most money on in game, be it a monthly or yearly subscription, DLC, loot boxes, etc. I’ve spent WAY too much money in Rainbow Six Siege. Gotta get all them operators and their flashy skins!

Brian Paradis

Hey Cohorts, I recently picked up Control on PS4 in anticipation of the Alan Wake DLC. I really like the game, but the game is ROUGH on my launch system. I watched a Digital Foundry analysis of the game and it seems like there are performance issues on all consoles. I wanted to know what you think, if anything should be done when games have performance issues depending on the version of the console that you own. PS: My last name is pronounced Pair-a-dice Thanks, Brian Paradis

Adam Cohen

Hey MinnMax crew! Everyone is talking about this game of chicken between Sony and Microsoft about the price, but do you think it's more about release date? Being first is important, especially without many major exclusives at launch. Is that why Microsoft dipped a toe in the water by just saying "November"?

Jaime Victor Negrón-Serrano

Hey MinnMax! What’s your favorite video game franchise lore? Also, what’s your favorite type of lore? Do you like deep “god-level” stories with reality altering stakes(e.g. WoW), or do you prefer less fantastical stuff like Halo or Fallout, that although deep with history, are mostly about people and their conflicts?

Adam_CW

Hello to the "Beatles of Gaming"! For years now video game news has been touching on the rumors of a Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster release. Do you guys think there's any credence to these rumors? If they were working on it, would it benefit EA or Bioware to just tell us it was in production? Thanks!

Spider_Dan

Heyyy MinnMax!!! Last year when I heard the Halo: Infinite Creative Director departed I believed it spelled doom for the game. Now that they have delayed the game's release until next year they will have Infinitely more pressure to deliver. Do you think the delayed release will raise the standard expected by the consumer to an unrealistic level and cause the game to crash and burn? Sincerely, Spider Dan

Aaron Waltz

Hey guy, I'm just about to finish final fantasy 7 remake, and having no experience with the franchise i can safely say, this is one of if not the best games of the year! So now that I'm going to have to wait 3-6 years for the next entry, what other final fantasy games should I try? I didn't really care one way or the other about combat, I just fell in love with the characters and environments. P.S highly recommend anyone who hasn't played this yet to please give it a try. There's a reason why hanson mentions it every episode. P.S.S Wikipedia defines a salad as- a dish consisting of a mixture of small pieces of food, usually vegetables or fruit. So no a bowl of lettuce is not a salad

Austin Stock

Hey guys! With the announcement of Neural Link coming August 28th, they promise it will allow full control of avatars using the part of your brain in charge of motor functions. Combined with better VR headsets, they say we will be fully jacked into the matrix by 2030 if somebody develops the software to go with it. What do you think? Are you ready to Jack in or will you jack off? -Stock Bros.

Super_DAC

Hey there people! What’s the most satisfying Nintendo sound effect?

Jeff (GazpachoManRandyCabbage)

Only throwing in a second question in case no one else asked about it. I'd love to get the MM crew's opinion on the Control next gen upgrade controversy. I've heard a lot of takes about it and I truly cannot understand the outrage. There's a lot of bad business things that happen in gaming, and I understand maybe it would be better to say if you own current gen you can upgrade it for a smaller amount, but this also kinda feels to me like people are mad that CDPR announced a free upgrade for Cyberpunk and now there's an unreasonable expectation that all games should do this even if it is coming at a cost for developers spending time to upgrade the tech. Should I be mad????? Are you????? It seems like Cyberpunk is just doing that because their release window is so close to the new console launch anyway.

Ben O'Donnell

Can you have too many, "and this game will release... later today" moments? The Nintendo Indie World Showcase on Tuesday diluted the excitement of that type of announcement for me.

Juan M

Hey Ben and crew! In honor of A Short Hike being released on switch, I wanted to know, what do you love the most about hiking? I'm mostly in it for the big meal I give myself as a reward afterwards. Thanks! -Juan M

Mike Vogt

Hello MinnMax! Why does Samus forget all of her abilities between mainline Metroid games?

Jesse Sousa

Hey everyone! One of my favourite things about video games is the music, my question to you guys is are there any standout moments in games where the song in the background gave you goosebumps because of how good it fits and sounds? The boss music kicking for FF7R during the airbuster fight, the battle tune when you fight monsters in The Witcher 3 and the beginning of the Halo 3 mission The Covenant are my personal favourites!

Christopher Wells

Hey Minnmax! I've had this patreon for a while now and haven't been able to just commit to a fun question. I see the pop up and I think well all my great ideas happen when I'm away from my phone! So my question is why don't game companies love money? There are obvious examples of money printing ideas like the long fabled Pokemon MMO that just seem too obvious to not have happened by now. I have always dreamed of a League of Legends Clash Royale hybrid. (Btw Suriel it's better than DotA) What are your obvious duh! That's a great idea for a game games.

MickManga

I can't believe I'm am saying this but I think Fall Guys is a real contender for Game of the Year for myself. My 3 favorite 2020 games so far are, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Final Fantasy 7 remake and Fall Guys. Also Ben A Short Hike is on switch. It's amazing spread the good news about A Short Hike once more. XD

Morne

Hey Minners and Maxxers What is the weirdest dream you have ever had?

Spencer Botine

Hey gang - I know some people listen to podcasts at 1.5 or 2x speeds, but have you ever listened to them at 1/2 speed? It makes everyone sound like they’re wasted and it’s hilarious. Try it out on one of your prior episodes if you need a laugh.

Mason Cowell

Hello m&ms! I've been pretty in love with the battle royale concept for years now, and Fall Guys is really scratching that itch in one way that no other game (that I've played at least) has. And that's through it's currency system. Crowns are awarded for victories, cannot be bought, and unlock the coolest/funniest costumes. That feature alone makes every win so much more enjoyable for me. What do ya'll think though? Is having exclusive currency and rewards that generally only the "best" can get good for a game? Especially one as whimsical as Fall Guys?

Donnie

Hey friends! I was blown away by Sucker Punch’s surprise announcement of Ghost of Tsushima’s multiplayer mode! There are full priced games of just 4-player multiplayer and they’re doing this for free on top of a full single-player experience?? This is the best game news for me so far this year. What’s the last surprise announcement for a game that got you excited?

Eric Seal

Hey MinnMax, are the people in your dreams wearing face masks?

Alexander Mills

G'day from Australia! Recently, Ben mentioned a game that is near and dear to my heart. Be it the MinnMax show or Minnfaqs, he just can't help but mention... Monopoly Deal! And I too can stay silent no more. My friends and I play Monopoly Deal all the time and I truely believe it is a more fun, strategic and refined version of monopoly. This leads to my impassioned request for you to no longer bite your tongues as I have until now. Do the MinnMaxers also have a spin-off they prefer to the original release original? Perhaps final fantasy tactics is the best FF game or Hyrule warriors trumps Ocarina of Time (these are not my opinions). Apex legends? Those Persona dancing games? Thanks for your hard work and positivity, Alex in Australia

Steven Lambson

What is your favorite movie/video game troupe that you know is bad but you still kinda love it? Mine is the character that disappears after a bus or train passes between two characters. I know its dumb but I actually kinda love it.

Matt Carter

Hey Ben and the cohort loving computers, I tell you what it has been a cold dark winter in Australia and recently I felt the urge to jump back into The Witcher 3 and feel that warm Toussaint sun on my face again. I found myself getting hooked on upgrading my vineyard estate which made me think almost all my favourite games have a house or pad for the player to customise, most notably Assassins Creed 2’s Villa Auditore or Links house in Breath of the Wild. Do you like customisable houses for the player in video games? Are there any stand out pads you made your own and hold nice memories? I love wine Matt.

Jeremy C.

Helllllooooo Ben and the cohorts, In regard to last week's conversation about mascots, the only one I can think of as new and for this generation is Astro Bot for Playstation 4 and now the PS5. Outside of that my question is, why aren't there more games that have a section to re-watch in game cinematics? Nioh 2 is the most recent that comes to mind, but not much else. There are times when i want to rewatch the cinematics for different reasons, missed some dialouge, want to rewatch for a detail or to catch up after not playing for a while. You can't always find these cinematics on youtube, especially some of the non-popular games, and it would great to see this option more than we do. Keep up the great work!

Blade Miller

Hey Cohorts, Long-time first-time and all that. Last week Kyle mentioned being bugged by the guy in a movie using the laser on a CD player to wow people. He was right to be bugged. CD players use an infrared laser which is outside the spectrum humans can see. DVD and Blu-Ray players use red and violet lasers respectively which would be visible, but an old portable CD player would not have been. Also, CD player lasers are too weak to damage anything, so even if it was visible, it wouldn't do anything... Movies almost always get science and tech wrong...

Tim Lorow

I’ve been watching board game reviews a lot and it has made me ravenous for more. JeffM! We need more reviews!

Brenton and Meriam

Hey MnMs, The first time I saw a black and white movie as a young kid, my mom explained that older movies weren’t in color. I took this to mean that as a VHS physically aged, it lost its color and became black and white. I started checking our various tapes and realized it must be true when, one of my parents movies went from black and white to color as I fast forward through it! As it turns out, it was The Wizard of Oz. But I though the beginning of the movie had already undergone the change, and I was very scared that MY favorite movies could be next! Any childhood misunderstandings from your lives you’d care to share? Well wishes from New Hampshire!

Hyperlight Blossom

Did ya'll see the Switch and PS4 listings for the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Trilogy Remake? A rumor from back in April points to a Holiday 2020 release w/ potential for delay. It also says Yuri Lowenthal is returning.

Joe Kafchinski

With Epic going nuclear in Apple and Google, do you think Sony's $250 million investment in Epic was protection money?
