Alongside the THPS1+2 remaster, there have been a lot of playlists devoted to those games' iconic soundtracks. I was confused at first why none featured Jurassic 5's "Jayou" or Black Flag's "Rise Above"... but I think I was actually remembering the soundtrack for Grind Session, a THPS competitor I hadn't thought about in years. While looking it up, I saw that its developer, Shaba Games, was later purchased by Activision and worked on porting several Tony Hawk games to different platforms. Are there other examples of developers that started as direct competitors to a reigning franchise, only to be hired to work on said franchise?

Chree McGee

Hey guys! Listening to Hanson get incredibly defensive (in a funny, self-aware way) about the Final Fantasy VII Remake whenever someone has something remotely negative to say about it got me thinking: what's a game that you are inordinately defensive of? For me, the answer is Skyward Sword. After seeing the Washington Post rate it as the worst Zelda game, I was fuming for a week. Thanks for the great content.

Nordstrom has a cafe and two restaurants inside, is it considered a food court? Is it strange that food is served inside this clothing store?

Thomas

The new Digital Foundry video on THPS 1&2 called it the best activision game of the generation. What are each of the big publishing house's best games this gen? EA's for me is definitely Burnout Paradise remastered, but this question doesn't ONLY apply to remakes, it's just...that's what formerly great companies are best at?

Rory Sublett

Greetings MinnMax! Help settle a debate, which is the superior dessert, pie or cake? (Ice cream cake is excluded from cake as that would clearly win) Thank you!

Victor Pham

How much of a role should nostalgia play in determining the best games of all time? With all of the quality of life improvements seen in modern games, can we really say that the best games of all time are still mainly from older generations? (SNES, N64/PS1, etc.)

Tactical Dreamer

Hello friends, So the Xbox Series S is officially a thing and is only $299, considerably cheaper than even the Xbox One X is right now. My question is what does this mean for next-gen games? Are all 3rd party games that want to be on Xbox going to have to be playable on this thing? If so, is this generation of consoles going to be even less of an upgrade than we initially expected? I guess we need specifics about the console and Microsofts plans before we know for sure, but it does have me concerned. Thanks, Tactical Dreamer

Howdy MinnMax, With the crash bandicoot remaster and the newest UFC adding slimy microtransactions and full on ads post release to avoid getting dinged in the reviews, is it time for games that choose to screw over their playerbase later to be re-reviewed based on the new content? Some outlets will happily push out a new review for early access games and games-as-a-service games, so why not? Thanks, Thom

Hello all! I have a game for you. The following are all pop brands, but some are from video games and some are just generic knock offs of real life pops. Your job is to guess which is which. Extra points if you can name the game. (Also after watching last week’s episode I changed soda to pop as to not confuse you Ben) 1. Dk pepper-Steins;Gate 2. Fatty Cream Soda-State of Decay 3. Hey friends, I think I have a serious problem. I'm too good at Tony Hawk! I genuinely win 99% of the games I play online and the streak is honestly addictive. I was playing Wasteland 3 before the game came out but I am finding it hard to pull myself away from my ability to beat almost everyone I come across on THPS. Have you ever felt this addicted to a multiplayer offering where it significantly ate into your single-player game time? Was it because you were so good at it?

Nick from Atlanta

Hey Cohorts! This weekend, after months of hoping the problem would go away, my Right Bumper on my Elite 2 finally stopped working. Fortunately, after looking at videos online for a bit, I was able to safely pop off the front faceplate and fix the problem. No issues so far, knock on wood. Have you ever taken apart any electronics yourself and fixed them? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Brian W

If you could re roll your career path towards working on games what roll would you pick? Designer? Programmer? Animator? Environment artist? Etc.? Don’t over think it, no weird rules. Just what area would you want to work on in making a video game if you could.

Joseph Stanichar

Hey everybody! With Nintendo announcing Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Mario 3D All-Stars and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity through Twitter, and Xbox doing the same with the recent Xbox Series S reveal trailer, it seems that most big gaming companies are shying away from pre-announced, flashy showcases and only make announcements when they're months or even weeks away from coming out. This obviously is because of the pandemic making any long-term plans tenuous at best, but when (if?!) the dust of the apocalypse settles, do you want to go back? I have to say, the idea of not needing to stress out over covering another million press conferences sounds appealing, but I might miss the fun anticipation and excitement of collectively gathering to react to all the hottest gaming announcements gathered into one place. Thoughts?

Chuck Emmett

hey gang, quick question. If you could give any game series the "All Stars Collection" treatment, what series would it be? Do you think this is a good way to keep older games relevant or are games better in their original context (ie: their original system, original controller, original place in time, etc.)

Nathan Wallack

Hello Lady and Gentlemen , With the new consoles looming on the horizon do any of you have any end-of-console-generation rituals or loose ends to tie up? Games still on the backlog you'll try to knock out before you're tempted by newer, prettier alternatives? Hold a viking funeral for the old hardware, or just take it out back behind the barn?

Noah D.

Hey y’all! Microsoft dropped a bomb by announcing the series s at such a low price. Personally, I don’t think there’s a way Playstation can match it. That combined with the insane value of gamepass and backwards compatibility, did Xbox just win the holiday season? Especially considering the financial instabilities brought on by the pandemic? All the best, Noah D - Los Angeles

TheName'sPug

Hey everyone, I don't know if you are familiar with Boss Fight Books, but they are super interesting. The basic idea is a person chooses a game that had an impact on them and pitch it as a full-length book that blends criticism and personal narrative. My question is - if you had the chance to pitch a book for this series, what game would you choose and why?

Joe Kafchinski

Hey MinnMax, while queueing up the new trailer for The Batman for at least the 15th time, I started wondering about my most-watched YouTube videos. As far as I can tell, there's no way to find out for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's John Mulaney's Airport Sushi (aka The Phantom of LaGuardia) SNL sketch from earlier this year. What are your most watched YouTube videos and what do you think that says about you?

Tim Lorow

Do you think 2020 will be the year of no movies? Or do you think big releases later this year will make up for the losses so far? I’ve enjoyed some such as The Assistant and Guns Akimbo but it’s slim pickings, folks.

Kris Calkins

Hello Ben and the cohorts, Has there been a game released on your birthday that you felt was a game made just for you? Mine would be Destiny 1 released September 9th, 2014.

DylanDuranged

Hey MinnMax Crew, I was wondering what your opinion was on Cinematic Trailers for Video Games. Obviously everyone wants to see Gameplay and that's totally understandable, but if you REALLY pay attention to Cinematic Trailers, they give away hints, clues, and details on how the game plays. My overall question is, do CG trailers get a bad rap? For example, Mortal Kombat 11. It debuted with a Cinematic Trailer and it gave away tons of clues about gameplay and story beats.

IanTClark

Well, they finally did it. The MinnMax community convinced me to play Bloodborne. During Monday’s movie marathon on the MinnMax discord, several members ot the community were also playing Bloodborne while they were watching. So I caved to the peer pressure and downloaded the game. Turns out if you’re playing while hanging out with a group of people that know what they’re doing, that game is actually kinda fun. I think I’ll keep going. No question this week, just another shoutout to the MinnMax discord. Next Movie night is on the 12th and looks like community will be watching Gremlins 2. Bye (claps).

Donnie

Hey friends! So along with the leak and reveal of the Series S there were several memes immediately that teased the design. It happened with the PS5 and Series X too. There’s been some strong reactions to the designs of next gen and my question is how much if at all does the design of a console affect your excitement? What’s the most ridiculous console design? For the record no design has ever lowered my excitement but I do love the memes making fun of them.

Sincerly, Eric

It's that time of year again, and I'm curious. As a simple question. Are you guys a Pumpkin Spice bunch? Yay or nay? What's the thoughts on it? My Wife found Pumpkin Wine a few years ago...... It was not good.

Doreen Ford

The release of Tony Hawk Remaster has introduced a problem for streaming services: Banger soundtracks. How should streaming platforms handle it? Should they leave streamers alone and let them blast those tunes or is some level of censoring legitimate or at least sensible? I lean towards no but I'm curious on yalls take.

Taylor Clark

Hey Guys! Taylor Clark and my question is what do you guys listen to when you game, music and podcasts? please be specific.

Nic Fontaine

How do you do, fellow gamers? Have you ever been slapped in the face with nostalgia? That happened to me recently when the hotly awaited Tony Hawk remake released last week. I must've spent thousands of hours playing the first two games growing up. Did anyone else play Tony Hawk 2 on N64 besides me? Whenever I hear people reminisce it was always played on Playstation. Anyway, I'd love to hear about a time you were slapped in the face with nostalgia, whether it be a video game, tv show, movie, what have you. Love the show, keep up the good work, I hear Ben Hanson will read anything, SERENITY NOW!!

Crayter

Back in July we got a puppy (rather popular guy on #pets nowadays) and my kids decided to name him Yoshi. If you got a pet (not necessarily a dog) and were to name him after a videogame sidekick/pet/companion/etc. What name would you chose, and for what type of pet?

Mack Dack

With the announcement of the 3D Mario Collection and next year being Zelda’s 35th Anniversary, what 3 games would you like to see in a similar collection for the Legend of Zelda?

Shawn Mills

I was recently watching the movie Yesterday which is about a world where the Beatles never existed. This got me thinking, What video game would cause the biggest change to the world if it had never existed? Would there be no FPS genre if Halo had never existed? Would video games exist at all if Super Mario Brothers had never existed?

Justin Dale

Little spin on the Bang game for upcoming releases, but this is for the ability to play a retro console or it’s rereleases (such as the NES classic)! Slight rule change to up the stakes, if you bang and don’t get it you still used your shot. Each person gets 5 bullets. Here is your list, it is short so people play a little more aggressively. Nintendo Entertainment system Sega master system Commodore 64 Sega genesis Turbo Grafx-16 Super Nintendo Entertainment System Sega CD Atari Jaguar Sega Saturn PlayStation Nintendo 64 Sega Dreamcast PlayStation 2 XBox

absurdziggy

Hey minnmax: what's the best revolutionary mission in gaming? Im replaying mass effect 2 and the suicide mission has so many different checks for upgrades and loyalty. I can't think of a better example.

Ben O'Donnell

What was a Nintendo 64 game you really enjoyed but think others wouldn’t remember until they heard the name? One of my most enjoyable games was Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M.

Bob Buel

Ahoy hoy to the 24 Hour Party Cohorts, Have you ever regretting buying a video game console?

Jaketrix

Hey Ben Solo and the Minn Maxian Falcon Crew, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Collection of Mana, and SNK 40th Anniversary Collection are just a few of the many compilations on Nintendo Switch. Compilations are nothing new, but to have them on this delightful and portable console is fantastic. They are often a great way to introduce newcomers to a series. Which series do you think needs a compilation (on Switch and/or other platforms)? Personally, I would love to see a Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon collection! Be safe! Jake Illinois

TommenDotGif

Hi gang Do you have a favorite companion from a video game? For either gameplay or personality? I loved HK-47 from KOTOR, he was hilarious to high school me and I've always wanted to go back to see if he holds up.

Jake Standley

While I understand that development costs are rising, I also think the decrease in distribution costs to publishers is not discussed nearly enough. In the past, publishers had to press & package a physical product and ship worldwide, an expensive task. In addition, they were forced to split margin with retailers like GameStop, Walmart, etc. who typically generated 20% gross margin (aka they bought the product at $48 and sell at $60). TDLR - nowadays some of these large publishers have their own digital direct-to-consumer stores (Nintendo, Epic, Sony), potentially saving on all of the above costs. Yet price to consumer for games still looks to be rising with next gen. Is this a warranted increase? And is it possible that a publisher/digital store may avoid taking the price increase to maintain a competitive advantage? Thanks!!

MickManga

I really enjoyed that name sonic game from last week. So how about a round 2 of the same game only this time for games that with Pokemon or Donkey Kong?

Florian Jonas Kraemer

Hey Ben and the CLCs I recently listened to the Outside/in podcast featuring Ana on the topic of open worlds and specifically Skyrim (fantastic episode Ana!). The world of Skyrim has always had a tremendous appeal to me as an avid hiker/backpacker. That got me wondering, which video game world would you most like to explore IRL, assuming you're save from its inherent dangers. Thanks for the great shows!

Fred Dinovo

Hey all, Let's hash this out, which fast food restaurant has the best breakfast sandwich? My money is on the croisannwich from Burger King, but I haven't had one in probably five years. We'll talk breakfast burritos next week, Fred

Sam Morrow

Good day Ben and friends! Recently I’ve been playing Ghost of Tsushima and while I’ve been enjoying the aesthetic and overall presentation, there are little to no consequences for playing poorly. Dying costs no resources, no lives, and with short load times, I find myself being more careless while playing. Do more games need to implement some kind of punishment for dying or sloppy play (Dark Soul) or is this type of game design antiquated?

Mason Cowell

G'day minnmaxers! Simple question today, what is your favorite spot in an open world game? Mine is a little area in BotW, in the northeast corner of the map, that is a valley full of trees that are perpetually fall colored. A beautiful and mostly peaceful spot, if you can avoid the very territorial Lionel that also lives there. What about you all?

Hugo Aguilar

Hey MinnMaxers! When’s the last time a game ruined another game for you? My example is Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima. Coming off hot after getting all the achievements in Sekiro I was still pretty hungry for some samurai goodness. So I picked up GoT and while it was definitely fun at first. I’m now finding myself unable to play it, due to its uninteresting story and repetitive gameplay. Anything like this happen to any of you?

Bucket of Jello

Hey MinnMax, I've always wanted to engage further with the community but I haven't had the time due to sheer amount of youtube channels I'm subscribed to and follow (and having 3 kids under 3 yrs). If you had to cut 2 of these channels out of your feed to free up time which would you choose? H3 Podcast, Game Theory/GTLive, MrBeast, Philip Defranco, Game Informer, Bellular News, or Twitch streamers highlight reel channels

Nicholas Marrano

From the other Nick in Atlanta Hey Minnmax crew, Can we all get real here? Cyberpunk is going to be the game everyone is playing when these new consoles release. I’m not going to be playing Spiderman on PS5 or Flight Simulator on Xbox (or whatever else they cook up). I’m going to be playing Cyberpunk, and it’s going to take up all of my time. Why aren’t more people discussing this? Anyways I’ll get off of my soapbox. Thanks for all content. You help me get through the week and I really appreciate it!

Tanner Hoisington

Hey Cohorts, as I write this I am walking the streets of Venice. A few hours ago I saw St Mark's Basicila and Campinale (the tall red tower) and my mind immediately went to climbing it in Assassin's Creed 2. Have you ever seen a location in a game and then visited it in real life?

Claudi

A bit late I think, but if you still look here before recording today, just wanted to mention that Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning came out this week! Would love to hear thoughts from you all on the idea of this remaster and whether any of you will be checking it out. Thanks!

Jonathan Anderson

Hey Cohorts, my question is specifically for Ben: how fast are you planning to binge Camp Cretaceous? Remember, I pay (a small part of) your bills so don't you lie to me now.

Quinton Crowe

Random question- how much do I need to donate to get a Snake Eater "Super Replay" from you guys!

Jesse Joxstrap Brown Baldock

Howdy bors long time listener first time interactor. I've been listening to a lot of podcast content and found that no one is talking about this, maybe no one cares! righto so not much of a question just wanted to get your thoughts on the semi confirmed switch pro. Whats the bet that it it can only be played docked. Nintendo aren't shying away from calling the switch lite a switch even though it doesn't actually switch between handheld and docked mode. So how about it, would taking away the portability of the switch turn you guys off from getting the new pro. Personally I would like it if Nintendo were to do this. Everyone has a switch now anyway so why not ditch the portability and hone in on a foreign concept for Nintendo.. PERFORMANCE! Sorry for yelling. Have a good day guys
