Tactical Dreamer

Hello friends, Cold or hot desserts? No cheating with something like apple pie a la mode. Thanks, Tactical Dreamer

Kris

Hello Hanson and the crew. I recently just finished The Last Campfire usually I don’t buy or play smaller games. I loved the art work and the story it told. Is there any other Indy games, or smaller games I should check out?

Brian W

Hey remember that kart racer that was supposed to be coming to Xbox? It was announced as a big deal coming to Xbox one during an e3 showcase and then it’s just been totally forgotten about. What are some games that have been announced and forgotten you wish would have come out? P.s. apple pie is so much better than cake i can’t even believe what I was hearing last week.

GreenMountainState

Hey MinnMax Panel, I was hoping JeffM could give me a recap of good 2 person board games. I know you guys have been running through some over the summer but it's been difficult looking back and synthesizing them. Cheers

Brian Ventura

Hey Minnmax 😃 Now that a a few months have passed since the release of The Last of Us Part II, have your feelings changed about the game overall?

RushingSomewhere

Hi MinnMaxxers, I need some help. I’m coming up on an anniversary with my SO. And I’m thinking of getting her a Nintendo Switch Lite. She’s not really into gaming but she’s dipped her toe in a few times. She’ll never really ask to play any games herself. The only gamer-ass game she’s ever fully played is Dragon Age Inquisition. She made her own character, played on the lowest difficulty and asked me to kill the dragons for her. I think she liked being able to customise the experience. She didn’t do crafting or anything. Just ran in with a giant sword and never gave the other characters any commands. Getting a Switch is a big leap, but I think she’d enjoy it. I’m just not sure what game to get her. I know they can’t really be gamer-ass games. Have you ever had an experience like this? Need some help please. I’m think ACNH, but it might be too much of a chore for her. She likes a game that ends I think.

Hey guys, If you had to erase all the art produced from one decade in the last 60 years, which decade would you choose? I'd choose the 80s because I find so much 80s music cloying, especially the overuse of gated reverb, I don't care for a lot of classic 80s movies like The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, or The Shining, and I don't like pixel art because it's ugly and outmoded.

Tim Lorow

Which controller is easiest to play with your toes? My intuition says NES since it has a small number of buttons. Atari would be difficult to handle the joystick. Gameboy introduces the issue of not being able to see the screen.

Grizzled Gaming

Hey, gang! Ben, tell JeffM Grizzled Gaming says "hello". He'll know what it means. My question: Is Wu-Tang really forever?

Tadatoo

Howdy cohorts, With Undertale turning 5 years old this week, what are your thoughts on the game? Personally, I love the gameplay mechanics, enjoyed the story immensely, and it has one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time. Thanks!

Chris Hodge

I would like to see the minnmaxers dressed up like the fall guys beans running around minneapolis. That’s all. Who looks most like a fall guy?

Devin

Hello. First time writing in, as it's my first week as a Patron. I've been playing a lot of RPG's lately, and one of the things I struggle with the most is naming characters. I'm just terrible at it. I'll just sit there and stare at the screen forever, and then eventually end up naming it after one of my cats. I'm playing Wasteland 3 now, and I've had to name 4 characters, and I just hate doing it. I don't have 4 cats, so I'm stuck. Why can't the game just name the custom characters for me, or give me random name generator? Anyway, just wondering; What is a non-skill based thing related to video games that you are bad at? Thanks!

Tyler Carver

Hey y’all, One of the community members got me thinking about the unification of screen names between platforms of social media and gaming, and I wanted to get your thoughts. Do you prefer to have the same screen name / gamer tag on all platforms, or do you like to mix it up? Also what makes a good screen name in the first place? I use Itsmajorpanda for pretty much everything, but some people have different tags for Twitch, YouTube, Xbox, PS4 and so forth, it’s wild! Hope this finds you all happy and well. Regards, Tyler

Hey yalls! There has been a weird new trend in franchises to go back and start fresh after a certain entry, but ignore the sequels that happened after that point. Halloween did it, ignoring most of the sequels, and Terminator did it, pretending 3 and on never happened. Now apparently Black Ops is hitting the refresh button..? So heres my question: if you could pick a franchise and select a point in it to erase everything that followed and start fresh, what would it be and where would you be starting over? (For example, i would love it if volition went back and made an alternate version of Saints Row 3, before it got too focused on being zany)

Why has Metroid never taken off as a “big time” franchise? It has a legacy, it’s a cool space game about a bounty hunter...seems like it should be one of Nintendo’s top franchises yet it’s sales and overall popularity say different. What gives?

Swiggity Swoo

With sony being forced to cut production of the PlayStation 5 by approximately 4 millon units. Will we see a price higher than series X? And with the promise of only a few exclusives on the horizon, is it possible that with a limited supply and high price point for playstation 5, Microsoft could win the console war after all?? If not, why?? Thanks! Love the show, Dan SwiggitySwoo White

Leafeonn (Josh K)

Hello Ben and the Cohorts of the Computer Loving Variety!!! What are some gripes you have with your favorite game? Recently in an interview for a job in the industry, I was asked to name my favorite game of all time, then talk about its worst parts. Personally, with A Link to the Past being mine, I think I would try to make navigation in the final dungeon more streamlined. A lot of the difficulty in that final dungeon is being artificial difficulty with just making tasks tedious rather than actually difficult. So what are some improvements you would make to your favorite games of all time? Your frie

Nick Ransbottom

It's safe to say that Immortals: Fenyx Rising seems to be a mash-up of Breath of the Wild's aesthetic and puzzles with the setting and combat of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. If you could mash-up any two games, what would they be, and which specific elements would you take from each of your choices?

Dennis M.

Heya! CD Projekt Red recently announced that owners of The Witcher 3 will receive a free next gen upgrade for the game. Since it's one of my favorite games of this gen and I haven't played it since it came out, I'm actually looking forward to play it again and finally check out the DLCs. I might even try to tackle the platinum trophy. Is there any game you would replay if it would receive a substantial next gen upgrade? A game you would normally not replay anytime soon? Greetings, Dennis (two Ns!)

Hola Ben & Crew, I watched the God of War (2018) documentary, Raising Kratos, this past week and loved going behind the scenes of the game’s development. It made me boot up a new save with a new found appreciation of its creative process. However, I must admit - I now feel somewhat guilty. When asked what personal sacrifices the team had to make during game development, some couldn’t bear to even answer the question. My heart sank. Cory and the staff at Santa Monica Studios neglected their personal lives in order to bring us a piece of entertainment. They were adamant that the outcome made it all worthwhile, but what about games that don’t receive the kind of praise GoW did? How do those workers feel after laboring over something for years only to receive a chorus of, “MEH 🤷🏼‍♂️”. I guess my question is, how can we as a community properly support the workers in the game industry given the lengths they go to feed our hobbies? Hope everyone is in good spirits and getting better every day. Cheers.

Matt Robinson

Hello all! Is there a game or movie that you love but the soundtrack ruined it for you?

Terry Pierson

What is your most vivid memory of a video rental store (like Blockbuster)? It could be getting a game, seeing cover art or a movie poster, or whatever other magical moments are enshrined from that era. Thanks for everything. Wonderful to see MinnMax doing so well!

Thom Blackburn

Can we have a Slumdog Millionaire deepest dive?

Lachie James

At the start of the year there were some rumours that the new Xbox was going to be able to play Steam, is this something that any of the cohorts had heard and would want? Personally I've gotten really heavily into Total War Warhammer 2 this year but my PC can only play it on the lowest settings, despite this it has quickly become one of my favourite games ever. What are some games that you all love that the graphics look very average but are still incredibly fun?

Sincerly, Eric

Hey MinnMaxers! With the Crash Demo. And Ana's comment last week about Mario Kart Live Circuit (that she hopes a Family member buys it just so she can try it) this has me wondering. What game or activity do you wish there was a Demo of? Something that you are really curious about but hesitant to put down the money for. With Demos becoming less and less frequent I feel like it is a missed marketing strategy in general.

Bucket of Jello

When's the last time you played a console emulator?

Connor

Hey crew! I’m currently playing through the Batman: Arkham games for the first time and loving them. Specifically, playing through Arkham Knight right now is kind of blowing my mind. Without spoiling it, there is a specific event early on that has crazy lasting effects on the way the narrative is presented. It’s a really interesting, bold story choice that feels like it must have been a huge topic of conversation at the time of release. However, I had never even heard whispers of this part of the game until experiencing it while playing the other day. My question for you is, have you ever played a game long after its release that contained a very surprising element you were shocked hadn’t been spoiled for you beforehand? Thanks!

Marcus Ault

Hey CLC's - Do you think that game journals are more forgiving of flaws in Japanese games than they are of Western games? I feel like the past few years have given us multiple examples of problems in Japanese games that are readily forgiven, but similar issues in Western games get criticized ad nauseam. For example, The Last of Us Pt. 2 was criticized for being too long or having pacing issues while Persona 5 Royal received almost no criticism for having thousands of lines of dialogue that were not important enough to warrant recording voice over for. Thoughts? Thanks!

Doreen Ford

Given the absurdity of Fenyx Rising and the story behind it, what's the biggest time you can remember a corporation changing or otherwise ruining a perfectly fine game title?

Reid Conley

I recently discovered that my wife finds it unacceptable to lend games to even friends and family. She says you might as well give it away. Despite the fact that I now question her moral compass, I did realize that most games I lent to friends over the years never found their way home. I have also, numerous times, discovered games that I borrowed from friends years ago and still haven't given them back... Are we terrible people with terrible friends, or is this just how lending games to friends works? Also, are these games mine now, or should I give them back? Help!

Chris Van Buren

I just want to say I’m new to your podcast, and this group is amazing! That’s it. #IhaveSpoken

Donnie

Hi friends! Who’s a comedian you’d suggest people check out? One I’ve watched recently who has a great quirky style is James Acaster from England. He has a 4-part special on Netflix called Repertoire

Rickfromatlanta

With the recent announcement of HW AOC I'm wondering what are your thoughts on prequel games? Is playing the game still worth it even though you know it's going to end badly. Halo Reach is another example of this phenomenon. Thanks for everything.

Matthew Weatherley

G'day CLCs I have a challenge for you all. Can you come up with definitive top 10 games with numbers in their title. You need to list from 0 through to 10 without using the same genre or series. For example number 7 will clearly be final fantasy 7 and number 4 might be resident evil 4. Number 1 can be any game as long as it has a sequel. Games selected should be games the CLCs would be willing to play and enjoy. Good luck.

Aegis of the Grail

Hello Minnimum Maximums! I just recently graduated from college with a journalism degree. I want to get into the games journalism industry, but I'm having trouble finding where to start. Most job listings I see require experience in the industry that I simply don't have yet. My question is: how did you all get your start, and what advice would you give to someone trying to get their start writing about games? Thanks for reading! Love all the content you all put out!

The Diddler

As we get older, do you find certain games to be a waste of time? I recently finished Xenoblade, but for the last 5 hours or so, I just put the game on casual mode. Bosses were about 5 levels above me and it was tough, or battles took too long. The solution would be to grind and go up about 3 levels, but I don’t have time for that anymore just to finish a story. Why grind an hour to go up a level or two? In fighting games, I don’t mind spending hours in training mode. I don’t mind spending 30min+ on a single boss in Nioh. I don’t mind because I’m gaining skill as I do those things in other games. In Xenoblade, all the skill didn’t matter because at the end of the day, the higher numbers win. In my opinion, if I have to go far out of my way to raise those numbers, it’s a waste of time. I’m not getting story information. I’m not gaining skill. Just increasing that number to fight a boss with the same exact strategy. So now, these “traditional”JRPGs feel like a waste of time to me. It may have hurt my gamer pride a little to lower the difficulty, but I wasn’t gaining anything keeping the difficulty up.

Everyone has FOMO moments and most of the time missing out doesn’t make a difference. Have you ever had the opposite happen? Have you missed out on something and it actually was a huge deal?

Aaron Hurd

Hi Cohorts, How does Nintendo seem to get away with everything? I recently picked up a Switch Lite after mostly being a PlayStation player, and I’m noticing a lot of things that are rampant in beloved Nintendo games that only companies get criticized for. Ubisoft is always made fun of for the climbing towers to unlock a portion of the map stuff, yet it’s a key feature in BoTW. Similarly, the game has a ton of generic RPG quests like “go collect 50 plants and give them to me for some reason.” Don’t get me wrong, I love Breath of the Wild so far, but is it nostalgia clouding people’s judgment when it comes to Nintendo? Or are the games so good otherwise that no one cares about this stuff?

Carlos Crespo

Hello, I recently visited the island of Tsushima in Japan and it was a fantastic experience, lots of history and nature. Which real places that appear in a videogame whould you like to visit?

Jaketrix

Hey Ben Solo and the MinnMaxium Falcon Crew! Full motion video intros aren't as common as they used to be. Which one is your favorite and can you describe what happens in them in detail? Ben can watch the FMVs for accuracy while the crew takes turns describing their favorite intro FMVs. Mine might be Soul Calibur II, but I'm not going to describe it for you! Good luck! - Jake from Illinois

Jason Wojnar

Hi Friends What are some stats you'd like to know about your life after all is said done (many, many, many decades from now)? They could be video game related, but they don't have to be.

Haley

Just finished the Sid Meier's Interview (so good!) and it reminded me of a time in my life where I was playing so much Civ 5 the music and sound effects became ingrained in my brain. It got to the point where whenever something inconvenient would happen in my life the "someone built a wonder before you" bwaah sound effect would play in my head. For example, when receiving the wrong food order or when it would unexpectedly start raining. Have y'all (or any other community members) experienced anything like this?

Sam Morrow

Good Day Cohorts. My wife and I recently fell hard into The Boys (I’m getting some Watchmen Vibes Ben) and the premise seems eerily close to the upcoming Suicide Squad game. Criminals or people with questionable morals hunting down super heroes mad with power works well across both television and games. With this in mind, what television show that has not yet been made into a game, do you feel needs to be made? Bonus points for a adding a developer to your title.

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey, Ben and crew! When Sony went quiet in May 2018, John Kodera said that they were “Crouching down to stand taller in the future”. How much of the PS5 strategy was locked in? How much do you think they knew?

Edgar Vazquez

Hey MinnMaxers, if I can call you that? When was the last time you lived up to the single-n name and min-maxed in a game? I have probably spent double the time in Persona 5 Royal than in the original min-maxing my personas and filling out the compendium. 10 damage types, 1 healer, 1 buffer, and 2 new personas per level. Executing them for fusion, hanging them to inherit skills, electrocuting them to turn them into skill cards. All only during alarms. While the process has gotten quicker after the initial setup, it can still take a while to get a persona it's best skills. I have to add that all of this is completely unneccassary since I'm almost one-shotting everything anyway and it's actually making it more difficult to get money from negotiations. :(

CalebMurray

Hello Ben and the cohorts! This week I quit my job and in a few months will be moving out of state and half way across the country to pursue my passion career. I have never made this big a move before and am naturally kind of nervous but excited! Have any of y'all made an out of state move and do you have any tips about settling in a brand new place? Thank you very much appreciated!

Sandshrewd

If you could die and be reborn as a peasant/normal person in any video game world, which would you choose?

Steven Lambson

If you changed the name of MinnMax to the following names what kind of podcast would it be? FinnFax TinnTax SinnSax WinnWax CinnCax

DJ Tommy Pizza

Hey Hanson and fellow MinnMaxers, Last week when you were talking about Crusader Kings, fellow cohort Ana Diaz compared it to the Sims meets Civilization and it opened my eyes to why I can’t stop playing it. I’ve easily clocked over a thousand hours playing each series in my lifetime and Crusader Kings gives me the same vibes. If you could mash-up two genres or franchises to make one super-addicting game tailored to you, which two would you choose?

Jonathan Dinh

Hi Ben and the CLCs My girlfriend has described Breath of the Wild as the game that made her a gamer. I showed her the trailer and gameplay videos for Fenyx Rising and she damn near lost her mind. It made me thing, what was the game that made you a gamer? What was the first game you remember making you excited and diving into gaming as a whole? I think mine was A Link to the Past from the SNES that really made me want to discover new types of games and made it grow into the hobby it is today.
