Hey guys! In your opinion, what games have put out the best collector's editions? With so many games taking this approach to boost sales the years, I was curious to hear which ones are your favorites. All the best!

Jonathan Dinh

Hi Ben and the CLC's I ended up buying Baldur's Gate 3 to get in on the Early Access and I must say I love it so far. I recently read from various outlets that it has surpassed 1 million copies sold and a discussion came up on a reddit thread about how this proves that people are starving for a AAA RPG of this type, following DnD 5e rules and with actual dice rolls ,etc. Do you think that this type of Early Access => Full Release model for games like Hades and (hopefully) Baldur's Gate 3 could be an avenue for developers to take the gamble that these less financially safe games have?

Erik

Hey there! Here's a little game... Smash Brothers Go To The Movies Hollywood needs your help! They want to make movies starring characters from Smash Bros. and have picked you to make the casting decisions. You can pick a character more than once but try to spread the love around. After you pick the characters try to decide if it's a comedy/drama/etc. give a little something about how you see the movie playing out. Movie 1: (BLANK) has been falsely accused of a heinous crime and Special Agent (BLANK) is hot on his trail. Only (BLANK) can clear his name and set things right before the tournament begins. Movie 2: The chartered plane left without them and now (BLANK) and (BLANK) have only two days to get from NYC to LA before the tournament begins. Will they make it in time? Not if (BLANK) of the Highway Patrol has any say in it. Movie 3: (BLANK) has been invited to the biggest, fanciest party Tokyo has ever seen and they need help. They need to find clothes and a date and there's only one person who can help... (BLANK). Movie 4: (BLANK) wins the tournament! A wild celebration ensues. They wakes up 3 days later dressed head to toe in Playstation and XBox merchandise and doesn't remember a thing. They need (BLANK) to help piece together just what happened. Movie 5: (BLANK) has just been freed after 10 years in prison. They've returned home, hoping to turn their life around. Old friends (BLANK) and (BLANK) have come up with the heist of the century but can't do it without (BLANK #1s) help. Will they be set for life or put away for life?

Hello all, We have game remasters that provide the same game with updated character models, a la Final Fantasy 8 for example, do you think we’ll ever see this in CG animated movies? Could we get a Toy Story remastered with character models from 4?

Travis Manick

When it comes to TV shows, movies, and games, I have pretty related interests. I like Action and Comedy and great stories and I don't really care for sports either way. However, while I can watch scary movies and shows without breaking a sweat, playing scary games just WRECKS me. Something about controlling and being in the experience just makes it hit different. Are there any genres of entertainment that you like to consume in one way, but not another?

Sincerly, Eric

Hello Minnimaxinites! With new Consoles coming and there being a mix of excitement overall. I was wondering. Do any of the accessories of the Consoles or anything else Technology wise have you all excited? For instance I won't be getting a PS5 at Launch, I will however be getting the new PS Headphones as soon as I can. Something about them just look really appealing to me and it'll be the first time in awhile I invest in nice Headphones.

Hey CLCs, I just finished listening to the Deepest Dive in Super Mario 64 and it got me thinking: people often say that when you stop and think about Mario, it's a very surreal concept (talking mushrooms, giant evil turtles, magic penguin suits etc.) and I think the same could be said of a lot of retro games, like Sonic for instance. My question: do you think this is purely a result of hardware limitations, as abstract shapes are more easily readable in pixel form, and has the age of completely surreal game concepts ended, as graphics have become more realistic? Sorry for the long question, and all the best from Nottingham, Jonathan

Noah D.

Hi Minnmaxers! It was great to see that there's a VR discussion this week as it's something i've become somewhat addicted to during lockdown after purchasing a PSVR. One of the coolest PSVR experiences in my opinion is experiencing all the wild VR creations made in Dreams. Have you guys messed around in Dreams VR? If so, what VR creation really stood out to you? All the best, Noah D. - Los Angeles

Geoff Enright

Hello E'eryone! I hope that you are all doing well and (my Nemesis) Jeff Marchiafather is well. VR drastically alters engagement with its medium. What do you think will be necessary for this technology to proliferate throughout consumer culture? Price? Technological Advancements? Sensory Technology? General Acceptance? -Geoff aka Groffles

Felix davin

Hey guys. What's your favorite cutscene ? Bye.

Jason Wojnar

I recently got really excited for a game called "Forest Song" which is a. video game adaptation of the famous Lesya Ukrainka story of the same name (or Leesova Peesnya for an approximate pronunciation of the Ukrainian title). The game looked to showcase and share Ukrainian culture with the gaming community. Then I saw that all of these stories were from 2016 and cannot find an ounce of recent information about the project. Have you ever gotten excited for any small projects that seemed to just disappear off the face of the earth for no reason? My guess is they just fail to secure funding for one reason or another, so sad and disappointing.

Ben Shively

Do you guys care about achievements/trophies at all? If so, does it determine what console you primarily play on? I’m so wrapped up in achievements that I’ll play games I have no interest in on Xbox just to get 1000 quick gamerscore and I finally passed 100,000 a few weeks ago.

Ramon Gutierrez

With Animal’s crossing fall update last week and Destiny 2’s festival of the lost starting today what are some of the cohort’s favorite Holiday events in video games?

Thomas Hoster

Glad to see you talking about VR. One of the major talking points with VR is what must play games are there. VR sellers. One thing often overlooked is VRs involvement in the Sim community (flight/space/racing). Seems like Squadrons is one of the more mainstream games to rope people into a VR space sim experience. Have any of you had experience with of VR sim experiences? I use VR every time I turn on my race sim cockpit in games like Assetto corsa for mountain drifting, dirt rally 2.0 for off-road jumps, and project cars2/Iracing for circuit simulation. How do you think Vr could continue to expand further?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! I hope you are all doing fabulous today. At this point in MinnMax’s history, do you consider yourselves to be more games journalists or content creators? I’ll take my answer off the air. Thanks!

Ziyon Gonzalez

Would you consider a segment that is opposite of the GOTY hunt where you play oddball/weird games on steam. Even if it’s just 30 min I feel like it’d be funny to watch you guys play weird broken games.

Christopher Reed

With all these new-fangled VR madness, how come nothing has matched the sheer radness of the R-Zone headset by Tiger Electronics? As a follow-up question, what was your main Tiger Electronics game of choice for enduring torturous road trips? For me, it was The Little Mermaid, which apparently is still available on Amazon for the low low price of $14.99!?!?

Christien

Hello peoples, Hope you're having a great day. I'm curious, what have been the biggest entertainment releases that you guys as individuals had no interest in? For myself, I have no interest in Cyberpunk and have almost always been turned off by whatever it has shown. Thanks for the show!

Adrian Creates

I’m pretty excited about the The Thing Deepest Dive (I hope “the-the” was as fun for you pronouncing as it was for me writing!)... Have you guys thought of doing other cross-media DDs? I’d LOVE to see one on Bladerunner! 😯

Tyler Sticka

When Super Mario 3D World arrives on Switch in February there will be (by my count) 14 mainline Mario titles playable on that console. When Yakuza: Like a Dragon arrives next month, it will be the eighth mainline entry in that series playable on PlayStation 4. Why do you think it’s so rare for a franchise’s back catalog to be so available in a single console generation? Do you think it will become more common as subscriptions and streaming services continue shaping our expectations? Mario on Switch: 1. Donkey Kong (Arcade Archives) 2. Mario Bros. (Arcade Archives) 3. Super Mario Bros. (Switch Online) 4. Super Mario Bros. 2/Lost Levels (Switch Online) 5. Super Mario Bros. 2/USA (Switch Online) 6. Super Mario Bros. 3 (Switch Online) 7. Super Mario World (Switch Online) 8. Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario World 2 (Switch Online) 9. Super Mario 64 (3D All-Stars) 10. Super Mario Sunshine (3D All-Stars) 11. Super Mario Galaxy (3D All-Stars) 12. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe 13. Super Mario 3D World (Feb. 2021) 14. Super Mario Odyssey Yakuza on PlayStation 4: 1. Yakuza 0 2. Yakuza Kiwami 3. Yakuza Kiwami 2 4. Yakuza 3 (Yakuza Collection) 5. Yakuza 4 (Yakuza Collection) 6. Yakuza 5 (Yakuza Collection) 7. Yakuza 6: Song of Life 8. Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Nov. 2020)

So! The long-running topic of Pop-Tarts versus vastly superior Toaster Strudels finally wore me down and I picked up a box for the first time in ages. I made two strudels on Friday while listening to the end of the MinnMax show and it took me the whole Get a Load of This segment just to have them ready to eat. That's when it dawned on me that, much in the same way you're always talking about podcast games, Toaster strudels are a podcast food. Despite what my recent culinary departure to Toaster strudels might suggest, I actually cook often and really enjoy it, and I listen to podcasts most of the time when I do. So I'm wondering, what your favorite podcast food is to make? Feel free to edit this question for length. Also Pop-Tarts have a weird aftertaste.

Interrotta

Hello Cohorts! Do you have a preferable time of day to finish a game you've been playing for a long time? For instance, I just finished Ghost of Tsushima, and I waited until the afternoon to finish the main story. It just felt right that I spent so much time in that world, that I finish it later in the day versus the morning. I did the same thing with Breath of the Wild in 2017. Do you guys have a preference or do you just finish the game whenever?

Joshua Leemon

2020 is a great year for video games but horrible year otherwise. Is there any other year you can think of that has the same situation? (Great years for gaming that come to mind for me are 1998, 2008, 2011, 2017)

T1M3C0P

Hi Ben and the cohos. Listening to the latest episode of the Deepest Dive on Super Mario 64 triggered on old memory for me that i hadn't thought about it years when you guys were talking about Tick Tock Clock and kids accidentally entering at the specific time to make everything stop and not knowing why that happened. That exact thing happened to me when playing Mario 64 at a friends house when we children and it ruined our friendship! We were doing the normal thing of passing the controller back and fourth between stars or deaths and we were having some real trouble with Tick Tock Clock. So at one point when it was my turn again i must have jumped into the clock at the exact right time to make everything stop and we were both shocked. I had no idea how i did that, but he refused to believe me. He got so mad at me because i wouldn't tell him how to do it that he kicked me out of his house and i don't think we ever hung out again after that. So my question to you guys is have a game ever ruined a friendship for any of you? Hopefully only because you were dumb children and not during your adult life. Keep up the good work.

cranberry

hi Ben and the CLCs! Who am I? What is my purpose? Last week y’all were trying to label this here audience and seemingly settled on Cohorts. However, on MinnFaqs you often refer to your colleagues as The Cohorts so how about dis: You all are, MinnMax: The computer loving cohorts And we are, The cohort loving computers. As far as you know we might all actually just be computers. Computers that watch you and listen to you. Computers that love you.

Tim Lorow

Cyberpunk is looking like a sure bet to be an all time great. Usually, eventual stinkers give a scent before release that casts doubt. Has a game ever looked this good and failed to meet expectations?

BlakJak

Hi Ben and friends, I've decided to wait a year before upgrading my console to next-gen so all the bugs get worked out and I have some more games to choose from. But now I have this next-gen money burning a hole in my pocket. Whats a fun way to spend that money? Upgrade my pc? somehow be convinced to jump into VR? Hoping for fun and irresponsible suggestions

Riley

Hey Ben and Cohorts! After getting my PS5 preorder I was initially super excited because this is the first time I’ve been able to join a console launch; however, with everything else going on in the world I actually feel guilty wanting one or that I’m “wasting” money on it. People have told me that it’s good to have something to look forward to, and I haven’t had much, but it hasn’t shaken the feeling. Has there ever been a console released previously in a similarly tumultuous time?

Spencer Botine

Hey friends, What is one game you could never finish as a child that keeps you up at night? I, for some reason, could not bypass a simple ‘mash the A button’ portion of Star Fox Adventures to push a tribe leader into a pit (please tell me you remember what I’m talking about??) to further the story progress. I never saw Tyranasaurs in that game and it haunts me to this day.

PseudonymousJoe

Apropos of nothing in particular, how big is too big for a video game console?

Vindicated

Hiya cohorts! I'm curious. What was P.E. like for you in high school? Did you enjoy it? Were you bullied? Any fun stories?

Dylan Drazek

Sup my main MinnMaxers, So having a toddler and having my personal time cut in half due to that factor, I haven’t had a whole lot of time to invest in large sprawling games with wholly immersive stories and environments. However, with games like Hades emerging in the game market, I’ve had time to game for spurts of 15-20 minutes at a time. Do you think this is showing a shift in the game market, especially considering the ability to quickly shift games with the new Xbox. Are we seeing an increase in short spurt games and why or why not?

Shawn Mills

Which one of you is secretly an alien in disguise and how do you plan on not getting caught by the other cohorts?

James Smith

Hey Ben and the Bananas, Where, on a map, is the state of VR?

Jeorin

What's the weirdest thing you've eaten in a video game, and what's the weirdest thing you've eaten in real life?

Thom Blackburn

What happens if you run out of peepee?

Viz

So, which game is the ultimate min(n)-max-game?

Taylor C

What sitcom would you like to see CD Projekt Red make into an open-world game? I think my vote is Boy Meets World. You can run around as Corey with side missions as Shawn who offers a more aggressive gameplay. There are multiple characters to interact with, romances to explore, and locations to visit - homes, schools, bars, and that great chunk of episodes that takes place at a ski lodge.

Matthew Weatherley

G'day Minnmax team I recently listened to what some might say is the deepest most thorough discussion about Mario64 on the internet. I loved the talk you had about the ending credits music and how it brought back memories. That same day I watched a speed run of Mario Land and could not believe how good the credits music is in that game as well. It really took me back to being a kid and finally finishing the game, putting the game boy down and taking in those sweet tunes. What is your favorite or most memorable ending credit music track. What memories does it invoke and can you please play a bit of it. Thanks.

MickManga

Sorry to bring up a old question. But.... removing any historical significance, I think Chrono Trigger might still make the top 100 games. It's still a blast to play and can easily invoke a since of wonder even for those who have never played it before. So what do you guys think? Would Chrono Trigger make the top 100 games still, when you remove historical significance?

henrik mortensen

Hallo. How do you think the gaming world would look today if the Playstation and the Super Nintendo actually merged in the 90's? Do you think Nintendo would just swallow them whole or do you think games like Ratchet and Clank and God of War would ever be released? Answer me. Now. PS: Banjo-Kazooie is better than the masterpiece that is Super Mario 64.

Knobby Buckles (Dave)

Do you have an unofficial soundtrack for a game or mini-game? I used to play Green Day's Dookie on repeat while playing Super Mario RPG on my SNES, so every time I listen to that album I am magically whisked back to my room with my sweet boom-box and 14" TV. More recently, I fell in love with the fishing mini-game in Final Fantasy XV, and I was on a major AFI kick, so now every time I hear the Blood Album I think about hangin' with the Noctis and the boys.

Eric Seal

Hey MinnMax, I was driving home after work this past Tuesday and noticed a white piece of paper fly off my windshield. It didn't look like a ticket, and I could have turned around relatively easily. Still, I felt compelled to stop to see what it was, but instead I kept driving. My question is: Would you have gone back? Help me, Cohorts. Help me find closure.

Witchstalker

Just caught up with the past few weeks of podcasts and was surprised to hear that not even Ben mentioned Mega Man Legends 3 during the "Games We Want to Exist" segment. My question is this - does anyone think a legacy collection for the Legends games similar to the others Capcom has released for other Mega Man series would do well and drum up excitement for a revival of the 3rd game, or are they too antiquated for new fans who didn't play them back in the early days of 3D gaming?

Mason Cowell

Hello cohorts! What do you think is the single greatest moment in cinema history? For my vote, I have to say the part of Interstellar where Matthew McConaughey has to dock his ship on the Endurance while it's spinning out of control. The entire scene has me on the edge of my seat every time, even after probably a dozen viewings.

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! There is just not enough Monster Hunter talk on this podcast! We just got a full trailer for it this morning (Wednesday), and it continues to look... not great! That said, I still really want to see it. Has there been anything you've thought didn't look amazing but still wanted to experience, game or otherwise? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

betoq92 .

A few weeks ago you played the sound from 1942. My cousins and I used it as a knock to identify ourselves, and its super annoying if we used the doorbell. I still find myself playing that little tune and i think it will be with me forever. Is there a sound or tune that you think about weekly?

Sam Brandt

What do you think will be the most common criticism of cyberpunk? I have this sneaking suspicion that people will be hung up on the first person view. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely excited for the game and have already preordered it. However, the first person view and the combat that goes along with it makes me a tiny bit nervous. Thanks and all the best!

Alex J. Sandoval

Hiya Ben & Friends, Watching the MinnMax Show has given me a lot of laughs during a rather humorless time (thank you, by the way!), so I thought I'd ask-- who has the best / most infectious laugh at MinnMax? Coming from the GI Show, I always thought Kyle had a wildly infectious laugh that would send me into fits even if the source of it wasn't all that funny to me, and Ben's more unbridled cackle is also highly enjoyable, though more rare in comparison. The less said about Joe Juba's guffaw, the better. (It's great though.) Lately however, I've found Ana's chortle-adjacent laugh to regularly inspire a similar reaction out of me, as it has a kind of unrestrained, almost childlike joy to it that is hard to deny, no matter how stoic I might feel in the moment. What are some of your favorite laughs?
