Hey Ben and the Computer Loving Corpses :P with the spooks season almost over, I was wondering what you all like (or don't like) about "spoopy" or outright scary games? What is it about horror games that draw you in? Or push you away in favor of more lighthearted "spoops"? I personally really like the dark, creepy and often gothic aesthetic atmosphere and art style of scary games, but I'm an absolute wuss when it comes to the creeping tension/dread and jump scares (I even get scared watching other people play horror games)

Dear "Richest Man in the World" and Crew, It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a mainline Mario Kart, with 8 released in 2014, with 8 Deluxe released in 2017 on Switch). Even though 8 Deluxe had a reworked battle mode, it’s still been 6 years since a new MK entry, making it the longest gap between releases in the franchise’s history. Do you think we’re getting a new Mario Kart next year, and if so what will it look like? Are we looking at a Smash bros type crossover game, or will it continue to expand on the classic MK formula. Thanks, Joel

Ben O'Donnell

Ghooooul day everyone! It's Halloween week and you know what that means? Time to talk Fatal Frame! If a new Fatal Frame were to be released on these new consoles, and Switch, what feature would hook you in the most? Haptic feedback on the controllers? The 3D audio of the PS5 headset? Just being on the Switch and using it like a camera in handheld mode? Or something else?

Jake Z

Why are the Last of Us games not talked about really in terms of best horror games? Is it because they're more expansive than a typical horror game and somehow transcend the genre?

Dunder

Hey Ben and the CLCs, With the PS5 unboxing embargo lifting this week, many positive words have been said about the DualSense controller features. That being said, I remain a bit skeptical of how frequently they will be used in games. Five years from now, do you think the use of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will be widely adopted by third party developers or will it be mostly forgotten as similar features were with Xbox One?

Holden Hintz

With the recent delays to everything in the industry including the nine delays to Cyberpunk, it’s time to revisit a classic quote by Shigeru Miyamoto, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” This is an example of the False Dilemma logical fallacy. We are only given two options: rushed games bad, delayed games good. However, Delayed games can certainly be bad and buggy, and rushed games can end up polished and talented. Notable delayed examples: mighty no. 9, alien: colonial marines, and crackdown 3. Notable rushed examples: Naughty Dog and Rockstar catalog. We will never get that non-delayed version of the game and it’s such an easy and safe take to believe the game will only naturally get better. Yet, as games get delayed five or six times, you gotta assume there is problems with production. Nintendo is king at hitting deadlines and being realistic with their timeline. Now we all know crunch is bad for mental health, but in the delay age we live in, how have y’all felt about delays in the gaming industry?

Hey MinnMaxers, love the show as always I watched the Kinda Funny Games Daily in which you co-hosted(love the ghostbusters talk) and was very surprised by Greg Miller. Not being the biggest Kinda Funny fan, I always thought he was just emulating a persona. However I was surprised by the KFGD on how genuine he is and how he really seemed to just want to promote the Oregon Trail Doc. Really made me become a Greg Miller fan due to that promotion that he didn’t even really need to do. My question to you all is, What gaming persona(journalist, dev, personality, etc.) do you think would surprise people with how cool or down to earth they are?

Chris Lopez

Hello Ben and the Cohorts! With the recent announcement that Mario 3D All Stars is getting an update to add inverted camera controls, where do you stand? I cannot play a game without an inverted camera, but I’ve always wondered why this wasn’t the default for games all along. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Tactical Dreamer

Hello MinnMax! When you play a horror game, do you prefer hide and seek style gameplay a la Amnesia or bullet management style gameplay a la Resident Evil? Or maybe something else entirely like Phadmophobia? Thanks, TacticalDreamer

CDROn

Hello MinnMax Crew! With the just now announced delay of Cyberpunk 2077 to December, I wanted to ask a question regarding the perception of game delays. While most people (myself included) like to lean towards delays as a good thing for both the developers and the game itself, at what point do delays start to become more concerning for the final product than helpful? I see many people now showing concern for Cyberpunk, especially after the strong messaging CD Project Red pushed regarding 'no more delays'. At what point do you think we as consumers should shift from "that's ok, take your time" to "uh-oh"? Thanks again for all the great content, you guys really are great! -CDROn

Omg! There’s a bomb in the house!!! That tricky trickster bomb man installed an arcade rom as the only way to diffuse it! What game would it have to be for you to have the best chance at disarming it?

Hey (Schwarzenneger voice) Minn "MaaaaaC" zers, Question for Pokéfans. I'm going into my first ever Nuzlocke run and fresh on Pokémon Sword. I thought it would be a fun idea to keep me honest to let y'all write the MinnMax Nuzlocke rule book, you set the rules of my playthrough and the dude will abide, man. Cheers

Hey Crew, It’s nearly Halloween which means it’s time for me to binge my favorite piece of seasonal media, the animated miniseries Over the Garden Wall. I associate the series so strongly with Halloween that I watch it in October every year, but never again during the rest of the year. Do you all have a favorite piece of media that you only consume/experience during a certain season? I.e, Christmas movie, Halloween video game, spring book, etc.

Alex B

Hey, cohorts! Happy (early) Halloween! I've got a nostalgia based question for you. What was *the* game that you played, that after playing, you realized, "Oh, wow. *This* is the kind of video game I like." How long did it take you to find this game? Does it still hold up? Love the show, happy anniversary, and here's to many more years!

Felix davin

Hello Ana and company, I was mighty glad to hear Javy mention Stalker during the first episode of The Thing Deepest Dive. Here is a hot take for you : Stalker is the best cross media franchise, as its book is great, its film is a masterpiece, and while I know it's rather unknown in the US, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series is god tier pc gaming. Best cross media franchise. Prove me wrong, please. One example. I dare you.

JakeTwitchin

In a recent episode of the show, I was pleasantly surprised to hear you all talking fondly of The Eric Andre Show... I couldn't believe I didn't know some of the cohorts were into that! What other movies, tv shows, books, or even games are you all into that have maybe not come up previously in MinnMax content? Surprise us!

John Casey

Any of you guys getting the Intellivision Amico? Tommy Tallarico’s siren song keeps luring me in. One of my daughters loves mini-games, notably Fusion Frenzy, and I think she’d get a kick out of what the Amico is offering. A part of me though also thinks Tommy is a snake oil salesman and this is all nonsense that I’m throwing away 250 bucks on. I guess I can wait and see, playing whatever similar games I can find on the systems I already own, but I’d rather make a decision now and stubbornly stick with it. Thoughts?

KaijuWill

Hey CLCs! Congrats on the one year anniversary! That said, it's been a year of Ben saying at the end of the podcast: "Be good, have fun, let's go!" Can you talk about this for a bit? What's the origin? Who came up with it? Where should we go? KaijuWill

Hey MinnMaxers, Recent supporter, first time asker here! Sorry if this is a bit long, I loved that you recently were talking about video game music so much recently - last week, you had a short quiz about ending themes (I can't BELIEVE y'all were sleeping on "I Am the Wind" from Symphony of the Night). Two weeks ago, you talked about memorable ending themes, and wanted to throw in "Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday" from MGS2. This song had an incredible effect on me even though I was very young -- now that I think about it, seeing real-life footage in the ending is a wonderful way to cement the game's theme of mixing reality with simulation. It's such a wistful, nostalgic piece. The singer, Carla White, actually passed away in 2007 from cancer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m4tYUfYCj4 Anyway, I also HAVE TO mention -- Hansen wanting to produce educational games after college is the Hansoniest thing I've ever heard, Love, Woocash

Sup cohorts, I’ve been replaying the Mass Effect trilogy and when I got to 3 I noticed a bunch of not so great turret sequences where you’re either on the turret for like 3 seconds or it’s just more efficient to hop behind cover and use your regular weapons. That got me thinking, what exactly makes a good turret sequence? I always go back to MGS 3 where Snake is in the sidecar with the machine gun and it’s basically just a cut scene. Is that a good or a bad turret sequence? Does that even count as a turret sequence? Thanks for all the killer content!

Jeremy McPhail

Hello Minnmaxers. When you guys "left" Game Informer - I was bummed. Now that you're Minnmaxing - I am psyched - two shows to consume. But, alas - I have become insatiable. Can you guys recommend other content similar to Minnmax and G.I. that has a similar vibe (positive and great personalities) and is conversation oriented? Thanks in advance for helping me with my appetite for quality content.

Sean Mason

Hey Guys Somewhat surprisingly (is it though?) Cyberpunk got delayed again? Usually delays of this magnitude (while disappointing) end up with the end result being a better, more quality product. Maybe it's just me... but the multiple delays have always given me pause with this game. I don't know what it is... but I've always had a feeling like this game isn't going to be what many presume it to be. Am I alone or is this potentially a case where the development cycle and multiple delays could equal a product with a bevy of issues? Best- Sean Mason

The Diddler

Hey guys! What are your thoughts on FFXIII? I've been playing it again on PC recently since the game is now in 4K. And I must say, my opinion has changed from my original playthrough all those years ago. Are there any games you were negative about when it originally released, but after had gone back to it years later, it changed your opinion to a more positive opinion? Thanks

The Krispy Kreme Lemur

Hi Ben and the crew, whats your earliest gaming related memory? The earliest thing I can remember is when I was about 4, my grandma gave me an N64 for christmas. I have a vivid memory of sitting and taking in the sights and sounds of the Ocarina of Time start screen for what felt like hours, but was probably more like a few minutes. Thanks for everything and keep it up :)

Doug Mayfield

Hello MinnMax crew, I had a thought the other day that I’m pretty much content with the fact I will give you guys 10$ a month until the day I die. I did the math and (assuming the best case scenario where I live to be 100 and you guys are all still making content) being 25 now I will end up giving you guys $39,000 dollars over my lifetime. My question is, what would you do with $39,000 dollars right now? What will minnmax look like in 75 years? Will Hanson become a head in a jar futurama style? Pumping out content until the sun goes supernova? Thanks for all the great content!

Chris

Most fun experiences this generation? Here’s a little game I’m going to call “Bet the Score”. I’m giving you $1,000,000 imaginary dollars. You each will take this imaginary fortune and bet on the Metacritic score for eight of the biggest releases this coming November. Below I have given you a Metacritic score “line” for each game. You predict whether the actual critic score on Metacritic will be higher or lower, betting as much of your $1,000,000 on the over or under for each game as you would like. You can go all in on one game’s score or spread your money around on each game. The odds are -110, which means that for each $110 you bet correctly, you win $100. If you lose the bet, you get nothing. I’ll total up the winnings and report back in December. For cross-gen games, I’m going to use the next gen score. The winner is the MinnMax Gamer King of November! Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - 82 Yakuza: Like a Dragon - 80 Marvel’s Spider Man: Miles Morales - 80 Bugsnax - 78 Demon’s Souls - 85 Sackboy: A Big Adventure - 78 Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War - 80 Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 78

Hey MinnMaxers, Does the Cyberpunk delay take it out of contention for the GOTY awards? I seem to remember that happening to Jedi: Fallen Order last year because it came out too late in the year. Is it going to have to compete for the 2021 GOTY?

Christopher Reed

Hey guys, do you remember the game Forsaken? More importantly, do you remember Forsaken 64!?! what the hell was that. The N64 had some truly bizarre ports; what do you think was the weirdest one?

Dylan Drazek

So I was gonna ask about the delay of Cyberpunk 2077 but obviously everyone beat me to it. But with the emergence of Hades and other rogue-lites and rogue-likes, do you see the attention of the AVERAGE gamer getting shorter? Or do we find lengthened experiences in games that offer bite-sizes at a time?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! The gods have deemed you must live the rest of your life in a TV sitcom. But they are just gods and allow you to pick the sitcom. Which TV sitcom universe do you choose to live the rest of your life in?

NikkiNSane

Hey, I just wanted to drop by and let you know that Hanson's museum destruction game idea should definitely be called "Smashterpieces". I'll gladly collect royalties from Mr. The Richest Man in the World when you use this title.

James Smith

Hey JeffM and the people who have finished Red Dead Redemption 2! What do you look for in horror games? High tension? Jump scares? Lots of gore? Or are you just a big baby who doesn't play them at all?

Jose Gabriel

Does having a huge backlog of games waiting to be touched give you more joy or anxiety?

Adrian Creates

I’m pretty excited about the The Thing Deepest Dive (I hope “the-the” was as fun for you pronouncing as it was for me writing!)... Have you guys thought of doing other cross-media DDs? I’d LOVE to see one on Bladerunner! 😯

Hyperlight Blossom

What’s a common point of praise you disagree with from a game or series you enjoy? I’m a huge Dark Souls fan, but wholeheartedly disagree when people say those games are fair. Possible doesn’t equal fair. I’m replaying dark souls 3 and that game is one big troll. “Oh every time I die its my fault” No dude, 90% of the time I die because terrible hit boxes and painfully unresponsive controls. Just because you love something doesn’t mean it’s perfect. I’m essentially asking for a hot take on a game you love.

Fabled Ursa

Hello friends. It’s officially hoodie season, so please settle this debate once and for all! Pull-over hoodies or zip-up hoodies? That is all.

We've been going through some YouTube videos checking out best soundtracks of the decade. Just wondering what yours are?? In addition, what are one of your favorite moments involving music in a game? One of our favorites is listening to the Tarrey Town theme song build up as you help build the town in BotW.

Matt Robinson

HAPPY ONE YEAR COHORTS!!! So happy to say I’ve been watching from day one. And since it’s the one year anniversary I have a game for you. The following is a list of video games. All you have to do is say if they were in development for 1 year or less, or more than 1 year. Keep up the good work and here’s to many more years of fart jokes! Assassins Creed: Brotherhood-1 year Ride to Hell: Retribution-5 years Majora’s Mask-1 year Super Smash Bros Melee-13 months Warcraft 2-11 months Perfect Dark 2-5 years Oddworld: Abe’s Exodus-9 months GTA Vice City-9 months Uncharted: Lost Legacy-15 months Fallout 2-1 year Mega Man 7-3 months

Why aren’t there more kart racing games? Mario Kart is one of the most popular series of all time, and yet there have been very few real attempts to replicate it. The template is clearly defined — we all know what a good kart racing game looks like. But with one series dominating the genre there’s also plenty of room for innovation. So what gives? Why aren’t big, family-friendly IPs slapping together kart racers left and right? And do you guys have any suggestions for existing IPs that you’d like to see translated into the kart racing genre? My personal choice — Overwatch. It has everything a kart racer needs already: memorable characters, beautiful locations, tons of fun abilities, and a perfect art style for the genre.

Hey Minnmaxers, I just recently finished playing Kentucky Route Zero, and while there are many things I really like and admire about the game, I often found it too pondering and pretentious to be really engaging. This was especially frustrating as it it looked like a game that would be exactly my taste, and had so much GOTY buzz around it. However, upon listening to discussions about the game afterwards, I found that I actually have a new appreciation for the game when looking back at the story as a whole. I still have issues with the game, but it feels like a more valuable experience now than it did while playing. My question is this: are there any games that you struggled to enjoy at the time, but appreciated a lot more in hindsight, or after listening to discussions which placed it in a new context? All the best from the UK, Jonathan

Scott Wilton

Hey Ben and crew, What are your thoughts on that Jurassic Park animated show? I’m scared to watch it after being so disappointed by the World movies... is Jurassic Park dying a slow death here? Love what you all do!

MickManga

I have a question for you all. If you could only play a single console for 2 months, which would you choose. (Of course you can still also play whatever else you need for work. This is more for your own gaming. Have fun😊) personally i would probably deep dive into the ps2

Giovanni D'Amico

Hey guys. I've really enjoyed the "credits music" discussion over the past couple of weeks, but I'm positively dismayed that nobody's mentioned the best of all time: Rogue Warrior, 2009's Bethesda-published FPS on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, starring actor Mickey Rourke as a grizzled veteran Navy Seal who simply.. won't.. stop.. swearing. The guy's combat barks are absolutely obscene and constant, and while the marketing for this game made a huge deal out of Rourke's casting, it's ultimately the credits music - a rhyming rap created out of those barks - that SHINES. Not sure if Rourke was in on the joke, but it's hard to imagine that he was? Love you guys - thanks for a great year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs0WflggoAs (P.S. - the outrageous lyrics are in the first comment on YouTube.)

Sam Morrow

Hello Ben and his computer loving Cohorts! Congrats on your one year and a week anniversary! Growing up I was always told not to judge a book by its cover, but in 2020 all rules have seemingly gone out the window! So my question for you all is: what is the worst cover art attached to a "bad" game? What about the flip side: what is the best cover art attached to a "great" game? Thanks for answering my question and congrats to Jeff on becoming a gamer dad!

IanTClark

With all the PS5 unboxing videos on YouTube by some of the major media outlets, it got me thinking. They do gang buster numbers as far as views, but do they actually add any value? Do you think they spoil the experience of unboxing you own console?

Taylor Whitt

Hey Gang, So, I just finished listening to the Mario 64 Deep Dive (sorry, late to the party), and I wholeheartedly agree that it is the best and most thorough discussion of the game on the internet. HOWEVER, I'd like to offer an opportunity for you to make it EVEN BETTER right here and now. On part 1 of the dive, Dan bragged about his world record for longest playthrough, but not a single person brought up the world record for the 120-star speedrun that occurred THIS YEAR! Most speedruns you see in games often take advantage of glitches to get through the game as quickly as possible, but getting all 120 stars requires so much skill, and it is arguably one of the most amazing videos to watch. A streamer, by the name of Cheese set the record at 1:38:54, and I highly encourage anyone and everyone to watch this video, it is so impressive. This happened in February, and get this, two months later, another streamer, Liamkings beat this record by 11 seconds! You guys, this all happened THIS YEAR! And you NEVER brought it up on the deepest dive. Please redeem yourselves and talk about this NOW. To provide more perspective on this feat, while the MinnMax community was playing the game, struggling with the controls, and crashing into walls, these pros were getting 1 star every 49 seconds. Love you guys, keep up the good work. Taylor Nashville, TN

MrButtons

I know I'm a little late here, but I'm curious where you guys stand on 3rd person vs 1st person horror games. It seems the push over the last few years has been to go for first person experiences due to VR and it being more immersive. Despite this some of my all time favorite horror games are in third person (Resident Evil, Silent 2, Evil Within 2, etc.). Do you find yourself having a preference over one or the other? Which is the more effective at delivering scares? Keep up the good work. Lucas East Lansing, MI

Crayter

Quick question: Can you all say the word "bag" for me real quick? Thanks!
