Hi Hi! Very simple question, with this gen, going to favor framerate or visuals if you have to choose between the two?

Muffyn Crumbs

Hey Ben and crew! I was thinking of Blair Witch and how much it made off such a small budget and it got me thinking, what's the video game version of that? What's the best low-budget (single A) game ever made? And on the flip side, what's the worst AAA game ever made? I know it's super subjective but I trust you guys will come up with the definitive answers to these age-old questions. Cheers!

Hello Ben and the Minnistry of Maxxic, Sekiro was my favorite game from last year but I never actually finished it. I loved every minute of it and got to the final boss but just didn’t end up beating it. It feels silly to consider it one of my favorite games because I didn’t even see credits but it was my favorite gaming experience last year; I just didn’t want to force myself through a four phase boss fight. Am I alone in this? Have you all ever had a game you loved that you just never ended up beating?

Dunder

Hey Ben and the CLCs, After powering up my new Series X, what jumps out to me early on is the impressively easy setup process. While the console downloaded an update, I was promoted to select all my console settings on the Xbox app and could even transfer over my same settings from my Xbox One X. The network transfer feature also lets me copy games to my new console from a different Xbox via my home network which is faster than downloading them from the store. Looking forward to playing AC Valhalla in 4K 60!

Matthew Clark

After watching extra life the other night, I had a dream that Ben and Kyle came over to my house for my birthday, but didn't actually interact with me at all (though Kyle did play with my cat). So I just wanted to say thanks for coming, but please say hi next time.

Hi crew, in honor of Veterans Day I was wondering if any of you had anyone close to you that has or is currently serving in the military. I did 8 and a half years in the army consisting of 2 tours in iraq, 1 tour in Kosovo and 2 years in Germany. Just wanted to shout out to all the veterans in this awesome community. Thank you for your service.

omanzo7

Hey Ben and crew, I have been playing for a couple hours now. First impression is everything just works great. Everything from my xbox one just transferred very quickly. Quick resume is the number 1 feature I want any console from now on to have. It is blazing fast and im usually only playing 2 or 3 games at a time but the feature makes it easier to move from playing avengers to go play Ori with the girlfriend and than on to gears 5 when im playing alone. I am really excited to see more and more games that are optimized for next-gen!

Hello Minnmaseries X! We're officially in the next generation! I think you could make a decent guess at what a good candidate for the Game of the Generation would be back at the start in 2013 considering so many candidates were sequels to known classics (Breath of the Wild, Red Dead 2, The Last of Us 2, God of War, etc.). What series would you put money on having a contender for this new gen’s best representative?

Brian Lyness

Hey BenjaMINN & the CLC's Forgiving the play on your name, have you been thinking of what uses the PS5's Dual Sense could potentially have in future games? I can imagine things like it replicating walking on creaky floorboards in a horror game, feeling the weight on each side of the controller as you walk. You could also feel a sort of burst of the haptics if your foot went through one of the floorboards. Another idea I had is that if your being stalked in a first person game like P.T they could replicate someone subtly putting their hand on your shoulder. It would register as a faint but highly tense pulse on a very specific part of the controller. Love the show & keep up the good work!

Thomas Deranek

Hi Cohorts! I am excited to get my PS5 in two days, not for the PS5 games I will buy, but because I don't currently have a PS4. I've been an Xbox guy for the last 4 years. I'm beyond excited that I'll now have the chance to play the Finals Fantasy Remake. I've been holding off on watching the deepest dive that y'all did specifically for when this day might come. I wonder if there are any other MinnMax fans doing the same thing. My question is this; As I go into the FF7R deepest what tips do you have for me to get the most out of this game, if any? Thanks again, for doing the things that you do! Thomas Deranek Kansas City, KS

Jacob Longo

Hey CLCs, Reviewers have been really positive about the new Dualsense haptics and it sounds like it could be a big advancement this generation, especially when you consider that graphics have not taken the same leap as they did the last few generations. My worry is that only first-party developers will use it because studios might not see enough return on the investment of time and resources when only a portion of the player base will use it. What do you guys think? All the best. Jacob Longo Tucson, Arizona

Hey gang! Congrats on crushing Extra Life again this year and I loved the collaboration w/ Game Informer. It was fun seeing some old pairings of familiar faces. Anyway, in honor of the last Deepest Dive on The Thing, I present “The Thing - The Video Game Name Game” Can you tell which of the titles below are the real video games among us and which ones are sus? Depressing Devil Tactics (Fake) Touch Dic (Real - Nintendo DS - 2005) Looney Tunes Golf King (Fake) Extreme Sports with the Berenstain Bears (Real - Game Boy Color - 2000) Attack of the Mutant Camels (Real - Atari - 1983) Ye Olde Boxing Punishment (Fake) How To Be A Complete Bastard (Real - Commodore 64 - 1987) Fatal Wizard in Busytown (Fake) Fancy Crowbar Takedown (Fake) Ninja Baseball Bat Man (Real - Arcade 1993) Action River Armageddon (Fake) Virtual Surf Onslaught (Fake) Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender (Real - DOS, Mac - 1992) If It Moves, Shoot It! (Real - Amiga, DOS - 1989) Undead Nazi Warfare (Fake) Astro Fang: Super Machine (Real - NES - 1990) Toxic Rocket Revolution (Fake) NRA Gun Club (Real - PS2 - 2006) Unstoppable Cardboard Playhouse (Fake) Tongue of the Fatman (Real - Commodore 64, DOS, Mega Drive - 1989) Shoutout to “videogamena dot me” and their great video game name generator, which provided other classic titles, such as “Jackie Chan’s Piano Smuggler” and “Frankenstein's Bimbo Gone Wild”

Hey MinnMaxers, Just a couple quick thoughts on my new Xbox Series X. I'm really excited because new consoles are just fun and awesome, so I don't want what I'm about to say to diminish that. A new console is a crazy cool thing and I love it! With that in mind, this round is a little... underwhelming. Since the controller improvements are pretty much just iterations and the UI was updated for everyone a while ago, I plugged in my new "mini fridge" and grabbed a controller that felt very similar and saw the same screen I'd seen before. The 4K obviously looks great (I came from a base Xbox One), but I largely just thought, "Well... there's my Xbox again." This was probably exacerbated by the fact that the first next gen game I'm getting on it is Cyberpunk which has been delayed to December. Honestly, the whole thing just makes me even more excited for my PS5--new controller, new UI and I bought Watch Dogs Legion so I'll have a next gen game to play right away. Still though, NEW CONSOLES!! WOOOO!! Hugs and kisses (especially to Kyle), Brady Easter Edmond, OK

I have two silly questions for the computer loving cohorts. 1. If you had to eat a Bugsnax from the trailer which would you eat. 2. In Kyle's honor for his part on Extra Life, is Bean Climb a contender for game of the year?

Zachary Sweet

Hey MinnMaxers, Since Tetris got brought up twice on last weeks show I just wanted to share my recent discovery of Tetr.io! This is a browser based and downloadable way to play a version of Tetris 99. You can either play with random people online or host a room for you and your friends. I've been playing it for the last few weeks and it's incredible.

Ryan Brister

What's a recent game that you feel like an evangelist for? This isn't necessarily your favorite game, but one that didn't get enough attention and you feel compelled to shout out and recommend in order to right this wrong. For me, Desperados III nearly flew under my radar at first, but I took a shot on it and it has become perhaps my favorite game of 2020 so far.

James Pinto

HI EVERYBODY! Another extra life down and what a doozy it was. I really had no idea what to expect this year but it exceeded in all regards. The dance parties were such a nice replacement for some of the more sinister things from previous drives. I was happy to see so many people show up in such a big way and really donate to what the stream averages under "normal" conditions. I would love to know everyone's favorite moments. I loved the Leo and Blake skate off personally. Toodles.

claudio

Helloooooo MinnMaxers! Not sure what your rules are about submitting repeat questions, but since Ana is on the podcast again I thought I would give it a go. What starter pokemon did you pick for your first ever pokemon game? Do you still feel connected to that pokemon in any way? Do you regret picking it (bulbasaur)? Thanks for the great show! - Claud in SF

wittynicknamehere .

Hanson! I don't have a question this week; I just want to say how weird it is that you bleep profanity on the channel, but have proclaimed several things to be a "cream dream" in the last couple of weeks. You know what that means, yes? This feels like that summer when Kyle wouldn't stop shouting SKEET SKEET SKEET on every Game Informer show, back in the day.

Ziyon Gonzalez

Hey friends, If you could only launch one console and one video game into space in hope another civilization would play it what console and game would you full send?

Rich McLaughlin

Quick take on the Xbox Series X, the internal storage will fill up quickly (especially with Game Pass), but the read/write speed of an external SSD is super quick. I’d recommend going that route over the proprietary expansion card, and juggling games when necessary. Plus you can always use the SSD for something else if you need to.

CrabPalace

You wake up in a forest. You don't know how or why you are here, but one thing's for sure: you don't like it. You're barefoot and without your phone, keys, anything. Overhead you hear the cry of an unfamiliar bird. Your bird knowledge is poor, so maybe it's just a bird, but it sounds weird to you. You decide to move as you can tell dusk is fast approaching. After an hour or so of walking you come across a deep, dark, perfectly round hole with a wooden ladder. Ahead you see only the continuing, seemingly endless forest. Do you: a) continue walking. b) climb a tree to better understand your surroundings. c) go. down. the. hole. You and your cohorts must come to a final decision.

DylanDuranged

Hey MinnMax Crew! Do you think we'll ever hit a point in the video game industry where cult classic movies that don't do the best in theaters can get possible sequels as Video Games? For example, Blade Runner 2049 is almost unanimously adored by fans and critics alike, but didn't perform the best in theaters. Do you think we could get a sequel or even a prequel to 2049 or the OG Blade Runner? Maybe we could get an Alita Battle Angel game? Please say yes! I need these games! 😂

Tim Lorow

If you haven’t seen it yet, I heartily recommend The Unauthorized Biography of Mario on the Filmjoy YouTube Channel. It’s an realistic look at how early creators were working with what they had and make mistakes just like anyone. My favorite tidbit was that Doki Doki Panic has an Arabian theme because it was made for a festival put on by Fuji TV to celebrate world culture.

Alex B

Okay, cohorts. I got my Xbox Series S today, and the first thing I did is run the single most important stress test I could think of for this console - how well does it run Sonic Unleashed?! Here's some load time comparisons (when hopping into a stage from the world map): Xbox 360 - 8.25 seconds Xbox One X - 7.31 seconds Xbox Series S - 5.29 seconds The biggest stress test was Jungle Joyride (Day). In the 360 version of this game, there is a section about 1:30 into the stage where the frame rate drops to less than 10fps. This is because the 360's hardware couldn't handle the all-powerful Hedgehog Engine at the time. On the Series S, the aforementioned section of Jungle Joyride experiences no frame rate drops - I blazed through it at a steady 30fps, not a single dip to be found! Add that to being optimized for 4K with a steady 30fps, and you've got the definitive version of this 2008 classic. This is peak performance. This is the best gaming will ever get. (Legitimately, though, how cool is it that Microsoft went the extra mile on ensuring all BC games, even 360, run better than ever on the Series S/X?!)

Joe Holaska

I haven’t owned an Xbox family game console since the original Xbox. This is the first time I’m getting both consoles at launch, and I would have passed on Series X except for Game Pass. I don’t play on a PC, so a powerful, somewhat future-proof console where you can download and play in excess of 100 games at launch is insane. I was thinking about how I bought a console and didn’t get a single game, but for that $1 for the first month and with some sale prices on Game Pass subscription cards, I’m like a kid in a candy store. I still can’t wait for the PS5 later this week, but I feel like Microsoft has created a unique space for itself as my digital box for its exclusives and lots of other content, and PS5 will be my go-to for big exclusives. Plus the Switch. There’s room for everything!! (Except on my TV stand...)

Sincerly, Eric

Hey MinnMax. Amazing job doing ExtraLife, as always. A little off topic question. Do you all have any favorite Stand Up Comedian? You know, besides Ben Reeves Street Comedian. (Sidenote I JUST found this: https://youtu.be/sd1ju9914vo )

Scott Castro

Hey Ben, Ana, Kyle, Zach, and Tom, First of all, I had such a wonderful time spending my 24-hour Extra Life marathon with you all. You genuinely put on an entertaining and often hilarious show for 24 hours, which is no small feat. In the process you raised over $50K FOR THE KIDS! I was proud to have accounted for nearly $750 toward the team goal through my Extra Life fundraising page. Thank you for a rewarding and inclusive experience. I got my Series X at the crack of dawn on Tuesday. As excited as I was, I gotta say that the modern day console launch experience leaves a lot to be desired. The console is wonderful, but I'm talking about that Christmas-morning type experience. After admiring the console and controller, it took hours before all of my games were transferred from my XB1X. Then, when I was finally ready to sit down and play Destiny 2, the servers were over capacity. With ever-growing files sizes, the diminishing physical medium, and the proliferation of games as a service, do you think the Day One experience has lost some of its luster? I feel like the Nintendo Switch did this infinitely better just three years ago. Am I just an old curmudgeon now?

The Krispy Kreme Lemur

Hi Ben and the Crew, I've spent 1 too many nights lately wired from midnight gaming sessions so I want to get better. Does anyone have any advice on how I can work towards better before bed habits? Can everyone share their pre-sleep routine? Love the show, keep it up 😊

Jeeo Banogy

Ahoy there Ben and MinnMateys! I think the idea for a daily news show sounds awesome! Go for it! And, if you ever get the hankering to, I wouldn't mind some random sketch comedy bits! I bet the crew could get down to some hilarious antics and it might be a fun way to showcase a bit of the surrounding area!

Kyle Silva

Hey Ben, Kyle, Anna. Congrats to Zach and Tom. The past week, I've played/bought several games from studios I make sure to support. Enhance's "Tetris Effect Connected", Harmonix's "Fuser", Annapurna's "The Pathless" and Alike Studio's "All of You" (That's an adorable Puzzle/Adventure game on Apple Arcade if you're confused). I like supporting all of these' studios because I appreciate what their artistic vision brings to video games. My question is, what video game studios do you make sure to support and why? P.S. I have my Annapurna Deluxe Limited Edition Pre-Ordered on iam8bit and I am hyped.

Ben Shively

Hello fellow Xbox Series X owners! When I booted up my Series X and game pass, I was shocked to see all of EA Play! For me, this made up for the lack of major launch games. Anyone who says that the Series X isn’t a great deal is just wrong. Having such a crazy library right away due to game pass is so incredible. The games also look amazing on the console! The only downside is the lack of any changes to the console UI was kinda anticlimactic for a new system. Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase so far!

Joe Dean

Hey MinnMaxers, In early September I started doing yoga on a regular basis for the first time in 8 years and went to YouTube for routines. After I started doing them the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon started occurring for Yoga with Adriene. I found out my sister watched her videos, Polygon's Simone de Rochefort tweeted about her, and our very own Ben Hanson mentioned her in the latest BetterQuest. So I was wondering what's something that you recently learned about that seems to keep popping up. Stay sane, Joe Dean

Brian W

My Xbox review: for a dense brick of a system this thing is faaaaaast! I stopped playing Squadrons because the time to start was so long. Launching on this new console it started in seconds! Worth it!

Jeremy McPhail

Hate to return to a subject that was quite literally dived into deeply . . . Did you guys know there is a Futurama "The Thing" parody? Maybe you actually covered it on your dive, but if you didn't it's a real treat.

Hans Kleinenberg

Is it me or is there no hype for COD Cold War?

Jason Wojnar

Hi Friends, wonderful job on the Extra life stream. Was it harder to stay awake and enthused being separated? Easier? Talk about how the challenges and things you learned doing it during the pandemic.

Felix davin

Hi Ana and her crew, To continue with JeffM's early parenthood and switch discussion : in the couple hours before giving birth, my girlfriend and I were playing Mario Odyssey in the delivery room to distract her from super stress. Whenever I think of my daughter being born, I think about the boss of the Luncheon Kingdom. My question for you all : what would be your delivery room game ? Cheers.

Project - Wiehe

Hello Ben & cohorts, I recently watched the twitch vods of the halloween content with best friend Ronnie (more Ronnie plz 😊) and had a great time laughing at Hanson’s expense — I’m a baby about paranormal horror too. Anyways, I heard on MinnFAQs that the videos were also on YouTube and i felt a little guilty, would it help if i watched my content there in the future to help MinnMax grow? I’d like to help my fav Patreon grow!

Jonathan Fenn

Hey Gang, I recently finished the Return of the Obra Dinn on Switch and absolutely loved it. The 'Well done' screen and musical cue that pops up when you solve your first group of fates is one of the most satisfying moments I've ever experienced in a game, and remained satisfying right to the end, to the point where I was actually a little sad when I had none left to solve. My question is this - what's the most satisfying thing in a game that's nothing to do with 'gamefeel' (i.e. not Spider-Man's swing or recalling the Leviathan Axe). It could be something that rewards solving a tricky puzzle, like the classic Zelda jingle, or a pleasing narrative twist that brings story elements together in an unexpected way. Another recent example that comes to mind is when you figure out how all the pieces of the Outer Wilds fit together, and are able to plan that perfect final run. Would love to know your thoughts! Cheers, Jonathan

Swiggity Swoo

Name a time when you were looking forward to something so much and it turned out to be a huge letdown, and what's a time when you were not really expecting much from something but it turned out to be fantastic??? Btw extra life was amazing this year, I donated under the name Arthur Morgan and you all did your Arthur Morgan voices and it was hilarious!

Geoff Enright

Hello Maxxers, Something intriguing I have discovered last month is the game Dead By Daylight is a true cross play game. I mean, completely. There is an FAQ on their site to explain how you and your crew of friends could play on literally any platform it is on simultaneously. And of course they suggest discord for in game chat. So, if they have seen the code like Neo, what is stopping other large enough games from creating true cross play? Do you think we'll see more in the future? -Geoff aka Groffles

Bob Buel

Howdy cohorts and a special welcome to the amazingly generous Pligge and Tom! My question - what video game characters would make the best roommates? And which would make for the absolute worst roommates possible? Thanks. I'll take my answer off the air. Bob

Barry Barrison

2 sentence Series X review: Not all that excited about native 4K and 60FPS, but having access to hundreds of quality games through Games Pass is AMAZING! I feel like a kid in a candy store when I look at the Game Pass list.

Christian Haines

Series X Review: I love the speed of starting up games and loading saves. Fast travel in AC: Valhalla (the game I've played most so far on the new system) only takes a couple seconds, which is wonderful. Quick Resume is a delight, as I bounce back and forth between Valhalla and Tetris Effect Connected. As someone, with very limited gaming time because of work and parenting, I really appreciate this speed and efficiency. I do wish there were launch games, but I'm happy to play my backlog (Dishonored 2) and new third party games in the meantime (Valhalla, Yakuza: Like a Dragon). Also, making lots of use of the share button! However, I will say that downloading games is finicky. If you have a game open, it only downloads at about 20% speed (for me that means 20 MB/s instead of 100-150), so you want to make sure to quit out of everything.

Alex Owens

Hello Ben and the CLCs! First time, long time here; with next gen starting this week Ive been downloading my massive ps4 game library for easy access next gen and its had me reflecting on all the great games this generation gave us. My question is this- what games surprised you the most this generation? Whether it be a game in a genre you never saw liking previously or something you thought would be mediocre but turnes out incredible. Two stand out in my mind; stardew valley for its perfect marriage of several sim genres i never cared for and The Surge for getting me into souls games. Thanks for all you do! -Al Pal

Sethro Tull

Hey CLC's, I picked up a series s as I still need to upgrade my TV and saving $200 now, will allow for more going towards a better television. Plus, the stuff I'm most excited for on PlayStation are years out (looking at you Naughty Dog). I'm loving the S so far. I normally don't buy games unless I'm completely into them so I missed DeadCells, Outerworlds, Doom Eternal, Anthem, Tetris Effect, and many more last gen. Game pass is an absolute game changer for me and adding on quick resume it's been amazing. The last two weeks I was going back and forth about cancelling the pre order, but after one night I'm glad I kept it.

Luke Strain

I got an Xbox Series X and I love it so far. One complaint though: Quick Resume hasn't been working for Yakuza Like a Dragon. Has anyone else had inconsistent Quick Resume? I love the function but wondering if it will actually work when I use it kinda defeats the purpose. PS: Quick Resume makes RDR2 easy to jump in and out of so Jeff has no excuse anymore.

MagillaMyke

Hello Ben and Crew and a belated congrats on the one year anniversary. My first day impressions of my new Series X are very positive. During the unboxing, I actually said...out loud...in an empty room...."OH MAN!"...twice. The first time was when you open up the treasure chest-like box and the system is sitting there all nice and pretty and the second time was when I grabbed the controller for the first time. I loved the heft and the textured grips right away. While setting it up though, I was disappointed to find out that my XBOX told me I didn't have HDR capabilities on my TV. Turns out Samsung TVs have what is called HDR10+ which is not compatible with the Series X. Kind of a bummer but not a deal breaker because this can be added in later, but still disappointing. Finally, a feature that I am going to find indispensable is the quick resume. I have two kids that also love gaming. I can't tell you how many times I've lost progress in a game because they switched games on me. My youngest wanted to play Forager last night, so I stopped playing AC Valhalla and handed the new controller over. She booted up Forager, played for about an hour and handed the controller back. Within seconds I was back into Valhalla right were I left off not losing a second of progress. **Chef's kiss** Beautiful.

Paul Poff

Hey Ben and the Gang! I don't have a Xbox Series X release unit but I do have the DevKit and wanted to ask....is the controller SUPER hollow sounding to anyone else? It kinda makes the controller feel cheap in my opinion, overall great improvements especially the textured grip, but C'mon!!!! Batteries again! The switch pro controller has 50hrs of charge!
