rip ana good luck on the internets. when will nintendo make a honest to god pokemon MMO? and not some half baked remake thing, im talking EXACTLY what we have been dreaming about since the 90s. open world, reimagined battle system (ff7 remake style!?!?!?) servers with humans running around. i want a specific, realistic release date. 2022? 2077? never is not an option.

Hey Ana & her subject's I'll shoot this out to everyone, what has been your most awkward encounter since you've been working in the gaming industry? It could be an interview, gaming online, at a live event etc If its someone well known you can change the names so as not to offend anyone eg Andy Pitchfork Cheers & all the very best for the future Ana!

Dennis M.

Congratulations on the new job, Ana! Awesome that you get such an opportunity, but for the MinnMax community it's a real bummer, because you were great on the podcasts and brought a whole 'nother perspective to the table. I hope I can share my favorite Ana memory as well. It has to be her enthusiasm for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the GOTY discussions. I was glued to my screen and alternately shouted "Yes! Yes! Yes!" and "Roche! Roche! Roche". I hope we can still hear your thoughts on the original and future FF7 games, even if it's not at MinnMax. Good luck with your future endeavors!

MoonFaceNick

Hey gang, slightly verbose question for ya. Lately I've been streaming a lot of retro games from the late 90's to mid 2000's era and discussing their viability in 2021 with my viewers. The awkward jump to 3D coupled with the archaic control schemes of the time have gotten us thinking - some of us feel like that period represents a kind of "Uncanny Valley" for consoles. Games like A Link to the Past and Donkey Kong Country are still just as easy to play as they've ever been, but titles like Banjo Kazooie play like a nightmare to me, and the original Silent Hill feels almost unenjoyable in its current iteration, even though I loved it when it first came out. It's only been about a decade and some change in my opinion since games started to balance graphics with controls to the point that they could start to feel timeless again. The industry seems to agree in that they are feverishly churning out remakes from that span of time while games like Super Mario Brothers 3 remain untouched and would probably be a travesty to overhaul in the eyes of most gamers. My question is this: do you think that 20 years from now people will look back on the 5th and 6th generation of consoles as a sort of "Dark Age", of playability? Or is it more likely that those people will feel the same way about games that are coming out today as I feel about PS1 titles now? Thanks in advance!

Question for Ana and Those Other People Who Are Associated with Ana: What are Ana's best qualities? Let's give her some kind words before she's on her way! Also, will you visit MinnMax from time to time, Ana? (Also Ana is free to answer this question and gloat about how cool she is as well!)

Rigoberto Hernandez

It's so bittersweet to say bye to Ana! But congrats! I appreciated the fandom deep dives, especially blaseball, which I finally understood after watching that video. My question has perhaps already been answered a long time ago but I am new here: what made you decide to join MinnMax?

Chrispy

Is there a game you played or tried that got you into an entire genre that you didn't think you liked or care about before? For me, a few years ago I finally tried Mortal Komat X, it has gotten me into buying a fight stick and playing a bunch of different fighting games. Also for me is Persona 5 (which no one has ever beaten), I've started looking into other JRPG's. The indie imersive story (or walking sim) that got me into the genre is Journey, and still is one of my favorite games to this day. Thanks for all you do! Good luck Ana! We'll miss you but come back occasionally please!

Edern

Last week you mentioned on the show Kuru Kuru Kururin, and it made me remember the amount of hours I played this game with my 2 best friends in the early 2000’s. I guess it’s my oldest online competitive memory : there were no online fonction that I remember BUT we all played at home, and put or best scores in a excel sheet file on a serveur - with all the bragging happening on AOL online… it kept us all night long during months. ahah I’m old :) We loved this game so much! I still have 3 copies of it at my parent house. Do you guys have also a non conventional online multiplayer memory?

Barnsley Pal

I recently started playing Dragon Quest 11. It has some great time saving features including auto-battles (think FF12 light) and sped up battles. They work so well that my 4 and 1/2 year old son can play "the Dragon game" by himself. All he wants to do is fight the enemies. He levels up for me when I'm not able to play. When I have time to play, I can just stick to the story beats. It's amazing. My question: Have any of you ever exploited child labour to grind in JRPG's? Or perhaps, have any of you shared the pleasure of introducing favourite games/genres to new/first-time players? It's literally training the gamers of tomorrow.

Cade Mead

Congratulations, Ana, on the big opportunity! Will you still be making appearances, or is this really the end of your run with Minnmax? As the pokemon expert of the group, what is your opinion of Alolan Persian? Thanks for being a great personality and voice in the community, and best of luck in the future.

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! I have a question specifically for departing MinnMax Youth Correspondent Ana Diaz. As somebody born in the 80s that grew up in the 90s, a lot of things from that time period really make me feel like the gif of Matt Damon aging from Saving Private Ryan. Reminding me of Trapper Keepers and Pogs feels like a sucker punch to my age. What are some things that you think will have the same effect on today's Youth? Thanks for being a part of MinnMax, Nick from Atlanta

Kees ('Case') Mulder

Hi CLCs! First time writing in to the podcast. I thought for sure Hades was going to be my game of the year, but after careful consideration, I have to stop lying to myself and give it to... chess. Chess had a huge resurgence in the last year through Twitch events and The Queen's Gambit. Did any of you get into chess this year? What's your tolerance for no-luck, no-action games?

Hunter Sax

Hey Hi Hello, Ana, I too screamed with elation during the Honeybee dance. Since we are talking Ana's favorite games, any of those have a moment that sticks out over the years as well? P.S Good Luck Have Fun Ana

Travis M.

Hey, gang! No question, just wanted to pass along more good vibes to Ana as she heads into her next big life phase! Thank you for all you've done here (Refreshed was a serious delight) and for providing a fresh and welcomed perspective! Good luck!

Blake Barber

Congrats Anna, you will be missed! If you could develop a game, Anna, what would you make?

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax crew, hope you're all doing well. Since Ana is stepping away I thought it'd be fun to do some 'on a DS' trivia. I've paired up some games and you have to guess which one of them was on a DS platform. Good luck! Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines (PSP) or Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles (DS) Korogashi Puzzle Katamari Damacy (DSi) or Katamari Damacy REROLL (Switch) Call of Duty: Roads to Victory (PSP) or Call of Duty: Black Ops (DS) Asphalt: Injection (PS Vita) or Need for Speed: The Run (3DS) Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (3DS) or DJMax Technika Tune (PS Vita)

BEEFCAKE

Hello cohorts, for some reason the only questions I can think of have to do with food. What is your favorite dessert? What is your least favorite dessert? Please don’t be a stranger, Ana. Your wonderful personality will be missed.

Chris Gillar

Howdy CLCs, I had to make sure to ask this while Ana was on since she has such great insight into fan culture. Do you think men and women use different language/phrasing to talk about gaming fan communities and excitement about games? (Fandom, simp, Stan, hype, conversation, nerd, fanboy/fangirl, etc.) Whether yes or no, what do you believe this says about the gaming community’s past and future?

Israel Roque

First off, congrats Ana! Hope that the new endeavor brings you more awesome stuff. Now, something thats been on my mind a bit lately is the way we enjoy/experience/view video games. At least for me, i remember starting off with the old Super Mario x Duck Hunt x "that other game that i only remember to be something of the olympics" on an NES my parents used to have, liking the cool sprites and the jumping over goombas, just cause they looked cool. And now as a 30 year old, im more interested on the more deeper, "adult" side of the industry, not just the individual games. From stuff like development stories, news about the companies, studios, and the people behind the games and seeing where the whole industry would go next really interest me as much as those NES Mario sprites. (PS: not necessary to read for the podcast, but i apologies if my post is a little incoherent, I admit im slightly under the influence of a certain plant *wink*)

Gigglesby

Howdy gang, EA was widely criticized back in 2016 for burying Titanfall 2 in a release window which was already heavily populated with shooters, including their own Battlefield 1. So why does it feel like no one is giving Ubisoft the flack they deserve for their fall 2020 releases? Watch Dogs Legion, released on October 29th, has a 72% score on metacritic, and according to howlongtobeat.com takes 30.5 hours to complete the main story plus extras. Assassin's Creed Valhalla released November 10th, and scored an 80% taking 86 hours to beat. Finally, Immortals Fenyx Rising was released on December 3rd with a 79% on metacritic and a 36.5 hour play time. That’s three huge, time-consuming open world games totaling 153 hours and 231 metacritics (that’s how it works, right), released IN ONLY 35 CALENDAR DAYS. I don’t know how these games have charted on NPD, but surely Ubisoft could have helped themselves by spreading out the releases over a few months, right?

Joseph Stanichar

Oh no, Ana! I'm so sad to see you leave MinnMax but so happy to hear about the job, I can't wait to see who the lucky employer is! You're the only member of the MinnMaxers I've never met in person but you really took the channel in such a great direction and if they're looking for someone else, that person will have big boots to fill! Since you're talking about her favorite games, let me guess some: Pokemon Yellow/ Let's Go Pikachu (since her handle was literally "AnaLikesPikachu" iirc), The Sims, Earthbound, Super Mario 64 DS... I know I'm forgetting some though!

Woodman

Congratulations, Ana! Well deserved. Double jumping is a cornerstone upgrade in gaming. Most recently, I really enjoyed how powerful and game-changing it felt to acquire it in Cyberpunk. Which games have the best use of double jumping? I want a definitive top 5 double jumps in gaming list. Hugs and butterfly kisses.

Hugo Aguilar

Hey MinnMaxers, What’s one game you couldn’t get into on a first try? For me it’s Persona 5 I started near launch but fell off pretty quick. I decided to give Royal a go and now I’m 15 hours in and loving it. Congratulations Ana!

saibher (cyber)

Good Luck in you your new job Ana! Refreshed was a dang good show. It's sad to see you go, but I am excited to see what you do in the future. Maybe collabs with Minnmax? 👀 Anyways, my question for the cohorts this week is: Do you think that games have been getting more or less difficult? Do challenging games sell better? I think that Souls-likes and games similar to "Getting Over It" show that trend of pain-inducing difficulty.

Gabe Brandolino

I'll miss you on Minnmax stuff for now, but congrats On A DS for whatever lies in store! Question for the cohorts- what game do you really want to like, but don't? God of War 2018 is exactly that: I really wanted to enjoy the new direction of the series and loved how the gameplay felt, but some directorial choices and the loot system really took me out of it. Hoping Ragnorak is more my jam!

Bob Buel

Howdy cohorts! In honor of the great Ana Diaz moving on be a mega star in Hollywood, I created a game show in her honor. So...it’s time to play America’s fastest growing game show sensation - Earthbound enemy or Ska Band! So in every matchup below, one option is the name of an enemy from the SNES Earthbound game and the other is the name of Ska band. Can you find out which is which? (Note to Hanson: the ones with ** after the names are the Earthbound enemies) Handsome Tom** or Johnny Socko Abstract Art** or Random Hand High School Football Heroes or New Age Retro Hippie** Edna’s Goldfish or Demonic Petunia** The Porkers or Boogey Tent** Mostly Bad Fly** or Mad Caddies French Kiss of Death** or Choking Victim Smelly Ghost** or Fast Food Orchestra Scalding Coffee Cup** or Common Rider The Blues Busters or Yes Man Jr** Skankin’ Pickle or Care Free Bomb** The Forces of Evil or Unassuming Local Guy**

Craig Marshall

Hey gang, this is Craig from Tampa Florida. In 2019 I played the game Judgement due to some good reviews. I absolutely loved the game. The story, the combat and the silly sidequests were all great in my opinion. I loved the game so much it made me want to play the Yakuza games. I have never played any of them before. Since then I have played through Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2. I am about to start Yakuza 3 and I plan on playing them all. Have you ever played a game that is part of a series and it made you want to go back and play all of the games that came before? Also GO BUCS. Have a good one.

Lewis K

Ana, good luck to whatever’s next I’m sure it’ll be great! In Ana’s absence, one cohort needs to deeply become involved with TikTok, it has to be done, the gap must be filled. Ana’s TikTok corner was the greatest semi regular feature. PS, Ben, I seen in your lovely Instagram stories (that I genuinely think are really good) - for the love of god TAKE THE DECORATIONS DOWN ITS NEARLY FEBRUARY MAN.

Christian Jimenez

Hey guys, My question is how particular are you about your gaming collection? For example luckily I am able to afford all three consoles and have the Resident Evil series spread across them, i.e., RE0, 1, 4, on Nintendo, 3, 5,6,7, on Xbox, and RE Remake 2, Revelations, Village Demo on Sony etc. Do you care about keeping a series in one console/library or does getting codes and review copies force you to just play it on whichever console it lands on. Thank you.

Donnie

Ana, you’ll be missed. Your sense of humor, your fresh takes, your cats... I hope you find your new career fulfilling and exciting OR relaxing, whichever you prefer. Just know you’ll always be welcome in the MinnMax community! ANYWAY! Now that we’re a month into the new year, does anyone think we’ll have E3 this year? If we don’t, do you think that’s the end of it? I’m thinking about how smaller events figured out digital showcases last year and E3 didn’t. Did they miss their chance to stay relevant?

Josh Loebs

Hey dudes! It's always confused me that most reviewers seem reluctant to use their whole rating scale. For example, on Game Informer's scale, a 7 is considered "Average" and you rarely see anything below 5. In my opinion, 5 should be the middle ground and you would move up or down from there. Maybe it just speaks to the good quality of most mainstream games coming out that you don't see much in the lower half. What's the ideal way to rate games in a way that makes sense and is an accurate representation of the text of the review?

Beau Bakken

Hey MinnMax, not to bring the room down, but I'm curious if any of you have struggled with an unhealthy addiction to a videogame. Around Thanksgiving i noticed Civ 6 was on sale and i deicided I'd finally give the series a go. I've been hopelessly hooked ever since. It's not like I'm putting in insane hours but on any average work day I'm spending probably 75% of my thoughts planning out my turns for when i get home. I've never had a game consume me to this level. I'm a little worried about it. Any similar struggles with videogame addiction?

tbeeks15

Hey Cohorts! I got a game for you all to play. A game that is hopefully a little more fun than your high school algebra class, because unfortunately this game requires a little algebra. I present to you: Solve for Smash! In Smash Ultimate there are certain spirits you can only get from combining two or more spirits together. These are called summon spirits. So I’ve taken some of those equations and taken one spirit out. It is your job to figure out what spirit that is. Congrats on the new gig Ana! We’ll miss you here and look forward to hopefully some future guest appearances! Love & Respect, Beeks (for Hanson: I’ve included clues for each equation so feel free to use them if they get stuck or ignore them altogether, just thought it might be nice in case they get stuck. I’ll leave they’re use up to you. Some of them may make the answer way too obvious) (also for Hanson: be careful that in the equations, the two characters I’ve provided may not be the characters that are being combined. To hopefully make it more clear, I put the result of every equation at the end.) Equation 1: [SMASH] + Malon (Zelda series) = Epona (Zelda series) [SMASH] = Rapidash (Pokemon series) Clue 1: fire Clue 2: a horse Clue 3: a pokemon Equation 2: Blooper (Mario series) + Huey (Paper Mario series) = [SMASH] [SMASH] = Inkling Squid (Splatoon series) Clue 1: Huey is a Paper Mario companion Clue 2: Huey is a paint can Clue 3: “You’re a kid now…” Equation 3: Rover (Animal Crossing series) + Baby Peach (Mario series) = [SMASH] [SMASH] = Cat Princess Peach (Maro series) Clue 1: a power-up from a mario game Clue 2: 3D World Clue 3: Rover is a cat Equation 4: Ezlo (Zelda series) + [SMASH] = Cappy (Mario series) [SMASH] = Boo Mario (Mario series) / I’ll let you be the judge if you want to count “Boo” as a correct answer Clue 1: Ezlo is the hat from Minish cap Clue 2: it’s a powered-up form of Mario CLue 3: Super Mario Galaxy power-up Equation 5: [SMASH] + Fairy Bottle (Zelda series) = Tingle (Zelda series) [SMASH] = Balloon Fighter Clue 1: think about how you first encounter tingle Clue 2: it’s an NES game Clue 3: Satoru Iwata worked on the game Equation 6: Judge (Game & Watch series) + Meowth (Pokemon series) = [SMASH] [SMASH] = Judd (Splatoon series) Clue 1: a cat that judges your teams’ performance Clue 2: raises a flag to declare their decision Clue 3: from Splatoon Equation 7: Togedemaru (Pokemon series) + Werewolf (Castlevania series) = [SMASH] [SMASH] = Sonic the Werehog Clue 1: Togedemaru is the Pikachu-like Pokemon from gen 7 Clue 2: Togedemaru resembles a hedgehog Clue 3: bad Sonic game on Wii Equation 8: Chibi-Tot (Chibi-Robo series) + Boney (Mother series) = [SMASH] [SMASH] = Rush (Mega Man series) Clue 1: a helpful companion Clue 2: helps with jumps Clue 3: from the Mega Man series

Sincerly, Eric

Hello everyone! I know this is a bittersweet episode. I tried to think of a personalized question for Ana that would allow her to both talk about you all and also one of my favorite things to hear her talk about. Slice of Life JRPGs! If MinnMax was a JRPG, what would that look like? What would everyones Class/Role be, would they be similair to characters we already know? Is Leo the Ryuji (from P5 Royal in case there is another I don't know about.) of MinnMax Is Ben our Nes? Do you think Suriel would be a better Dark Mage or Monk? Please let us know what you think it would look like. I will miss you and your passionate side rants. Truthfully. That is always my favorite content, from MinnMax or media in general. Is when some one gets swept up with something and goes on tangents about it. It made me start following you as a Personality (for lack of a better word.) And will make me continue following you into your future endeavors. Good luck!

austin nickelson

Hey everyone, with it being said that a KOTOR game is being made by another studio outside of EA/BioWare and being it being in the legends universe; is there Star Wars game that takes place in the legends universe that you would love to see be made again and make fit into the canon universe? Which studio would you like to see make said game?

Hootz

Hello, cohorts. This question is for Kyle, but if anyone else has any insights, I’d still be happy to hear them. With a 7-month-old baby in the house, I am constantly thinking about the role games are going to have in his life. Literally every screen in the house is a magnet for his eyeballs, and I find it kind of terrifying. While I have no plans to ban or put a time limit on video games outright when he is older, I am fearful of how to raise him so that he is naturally interested in creating, thinking, or other taking part in other healthy habits, rather than just consuming media. I have some very general ideas of how to do this, like making sure he’s completed 1 or 2 productive/meaningful things before he’s able to play. But what technique(s) should I start using now so that my kid doesn’t grow up with this consumption mentality? Also, congratulations, Ana! You’re gonna do great things!

henrik mortensen

Hallo? What thing do you tweak in the options meny before you start playing a new game or after some time in the game? I always put on the subtitles and after about 2 hours of play I always turn up the volume on the music and turn down the SFX. And turn down the contrast in Resident Evil 2. So it is not so scary, you know.

Mark Ramirez

The best part about Ana was all of it! You fit so well with the team (starts chanting ONE OF US), the blaseball interview was great, and the Christmas special had me cracking up. Thank you for taking a chance on the Minnmax community!

Jake Z

Do you think we'll be getting more last gen ports than usual in the next couple years to fill a presumable release void caused by COVID throwing a wrench in game development?

FlaminQueso

Hanson and the ‘horts, Since this is Ana’s last episode, this may be our last chance to hear something I’ve been very curious to hear. Can Ana please sing the Pokerap?! She said she could do it and I think it would certainly make the show better. Thanks, Greg “FlaminQueso”

Tadatoo

Hello Ana and others, First off, congrats Ana on your new job! Second, what do you think about GameStop turning some of their stores into a place where people can build a pc and buy parts at? I have a buddy who works at GameStop and he mentioned that this change will be happening either Summer or Fall where people can come in and a store associate will help them build a gaming pc. He said this would be similar to what Microcenters do. I like this idea as it helps lower the bar for people to get in pc gaming as doing all of the research to find the right pieces and actually building it is time consuming and confusing. Best wishes, Tad

Joshua Caleb

Hey Ben and the CLCs, congrats Ana on the new full time gig, but I will miss your your unique and compelling perspective on the show and your hot-fire gaming takes :P hope you can make an appearance soon :) Ok Now here's a question for you: Do you have a favorite episode or moment on MinnMax?(that you were a part of or just watched) and bonus credit; Ben always asks all of US what we would like to see more of from MinnMax, but what about you? What do you want to see more of?

May McKernan

Thank you for everything you've brought to Minnmax, Ana! And congratulations on the new job. :)

chris cuevas

Hey Ben and hey Ana and the rest of the cohorts. Honestly as someone who was skeptical at the thought of bringing in new faces for the MinnMax crew I quickly warmed to Ana, she's been a delight and I'm sad to see her step away but also happy for her landing a new job! As a fellow Pokémon fan what is Ana looking forward to seeing this year for the big anniversary that hasn't been announced yet? Diamond Pearl remake rumors are swirling but I don't find that exciting, then again given how disappointing Sword/Shield were maybe a remake would deliver a much needed nostalgia hit.

Chuck Emmett

Gunna miss Ana so much! Just a quick question this week, what features would your ideal gaming platform have? Can be console, pc, handheld, VR, etc.

James Martin

Hi Cohorts. Congrats, Ana - you'll be missed on the show! Pretty basic question but I don't think it's been asked - with Resident Evil 8 on the way, what is THE scariest game you've each played?

Geoff Enright

Hello everyone, including my nemesis JeffM! Ana, your voice and perspective will be missed with Minnmax. And as a random farewell question, completely unrelated to gaming... what is the most common condiment you can think of that you don't like or don't have in your kitchen. For example, I rarely have ketchup in my kitchen because I prefer things that taste good. Also, knowing the crew here, the definition of a condiment is as follows per Merriam Webster dictionary: Collegiate Definition : something used to enhance the flavor of food especially : a pungent seasoning -Geoff aka Groffles
