At the last minute, Sony made the decision to delay Destruction All Stars and make it into a PS Plus game, which seems to have been the right move for it. What other games were better for having been released via PS Plus?

RickyWinterborn

Loved the double jump question last week ( Kyle had correct answer with alucard in SOTN ) can y'all run down this list of best common moves in a game: roll/dodge , aerial drop, slo-mo , box-smash, grapple hook , furious QTE tapping, and finisher.

I recently bought brain training for the switch and I can’t stop playing sudoku. What are all of your favorite types of puzzles?

Josh64

Hey CLCs, got a comment and a question that have nothing to do with each other! First off just wanna say that I’m really happy about the Mass Effect Remasters given it’s the biggest franchise I missed out on from the 360 generation and I’m really excited to play through it for the first time. Secondly, I often hear gaming podcasts talk about what kind of guy they are or aren’t (I’m not a Rogue-Like guy, I’m not a shooter guy etc. etc.) let’s set the record straight, what kind of guys are you?

Fenrir

Hey hi, Ben, the CLCs, and guest, What is your favorite minor gameplay element that always makes you smile? For me, it's seeing a "Thanks for Playing!" screen after the end-credits or an "And you!" in the Special Thanks section. It feels good to be acknowledged by the developers for helping to bring the game to life and experiencing their hard work. Thanks for reading! Fenrir, the GGW

Hi gang, I’m a relatively new Patreon, so I’m sorry if this is frowned upon, but I have two potential questions for this week’s episode. Feel free to pick either (or neither): 1. PlayStation revealed our player stats this week, and apparently I spent exactly 24 hours in PSVR. This got me thinking: if you could spend exactly one day in any video game universe which would it be and why? I would personally pick Journey. Spending a day connecting with other travelers and traversing the mountain seem like it could be an incredible experience, but I wouldn’t want to be stuck there forever. Thanks for all the great content! 2. This week I finished Cyber Shadow and part of me wishes I’d stopped half way through. I loved the first half of the game, but the second half becomes far more difficult, has fewer boss fights to enjoy, and the inability to map my controls to other buttons became more and more frustrating as I progressed. Are there any games that you all really enjoyed at the beginning but had soured on by the end? Thanks for all you do!

Jake Z

Why doesn't every open world game do Rockstar-style randomly-instanced story events? They make their games feel so much more realistic and immersive!

James Smith

Hey Podcast Party People What do you think this Stadia news means for the developers they acquired? Are they going down with the ship or will they get sold off to some other publisher?

Doreen Ford

I finished Donut County recently and came up with a game based on its Trashopedia! Name the object this description is correlated with! There are 13, but you don't have to do all of them, just as many as is fun. It's a free house. Don't let it get wet. (Cardboard box) Go in here if you want to get yelled at by coyotes. (Cave) Makes your eyes cry when you stick your head in. (Chimney) A large mug for dirt lovers. (Bucket) Gloves for your car. (Tires) Alive spaghetti. (Snake) An early type of television. (Campfire) Dirt spoon (Garden shovel) The opposite of a refrigerator. (Barbecue) Barbeque batteries. (Coal) A chair that wishes it was a bed. (Lounge chair) If you carry this and look mad you can walk into anywhere. (Clipboard) Seeds for a house (Bricks)

Hello Ben and the Cohorts! Are there any games that you love playing, but disagree with what your main objective of the game is? For example, I’m playing through Shadow of the Colossus again right now. It’s an amazing game and I love it, but it’s so sad killing those beautiful giants. Thanks!

Jonathan Fenn

Hey CLCs, this past week saw the release of the fantastic Heaven's Vault on the Switch, and I saw a lot of people on Twitter urging everyone to check out this underappreciated gem. With that in mind, if you had the power to force everyone in the world to play through the entirety of any game, which would it be? It could be a hidden gem or an obscure favourite from childhood - whatever you want. Best wishes from Nottingham, Jonathan

Jeeo Banogy

Hey MinnMax Crew! What is your favorite walk/run cycle in games?

Zach E

Hello!!! With all the excitement with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, I put together a little game for the cohorts (plus guest?) called "List off the Mass Effect species!" Have cohorts go around the room naming off the species in Mass Effect trilogy until one is left standing. For simplicity, I'm only looking for races with speaking roles. Andromeda races are excluded in addition to DLC races (Yahg, Prothean, and Leviathans are excluded). The list of races include: Humans, Asari, Turians, Salarians, Quarians, Krogan, Volus, Elcor, Hanar, Geth, Drell, Batarians, Reapers, Vorcha, Collectors

Ben Shively

With Mass Effect having its upcoming remastered trilogy, which other series would you want to have this impressive of a remaster treatment to? I personally don’t understand why EA hasn’t already done this for Dead Space.

Christian F.

Hey CLCs! Please, sell metroidvanias to me! Game design is one of my favorite topics to read and watch video essays about. I'm a 3D animator and I've dabbled in the modding scene, making maps for mp games. But if there's one thing I don't get about gaming culture is the appeal of metroidvanias. The concept of having sections of a map or world be inaccessible until you get a certain ability or weapon seems like an arbitrary and obvious way to artificially lengthen a game. If you get Weapon X in Level 3, why not just have you use it going forward? What's the value on forcing backtracking? That new area I have access to back in Level 1, might as well be Level 4. The difference is philosophical and I can't see how it benefits the game. Please, help me see the light!

Hello!! Love the show❤️ I’m a new patron and I’m happy to be supporting you! I’ve been pretty stressed lately what with college and working two jobs. I barely have time to play anymore. So I figured maybe I’d try to squeeze some gaming time in my lunch break, which is about 30 minutes. What games would you recommend? I’m looking for something simple and quick to pick up and put down. Keep up the great work!

Mark Ramirez

Hey Minnmax! This week I’ve started trying to rank every game I’ve played. Looking back into your past, what was it like arguing about the top 300 games of all time? I have to imagine it was hard with a lot of older games on the list not being as enjoyable to play as stuff that’s coming out now. I’m lucky that my list is based on what I like and enjoy and is just me arguing with myself.

Tactical Dreamer

Hello Cohorts, Did any of you check out the Balan Wonderworld demo? It's kind of bad. It was the first time in a long while that I've played a game where controlling the character immediately felt terrible. I'm glad we got a demo though, so I could have this experience now and not at launch when I would have paid money for it. What demos do you remember that unsold you on a game? Thanks, Tactical Dreamer

Ryan

Hello crew, I’ve been wondering about the legacy that games leave. Things from game mechanics, settings, and so on, but I’m more interested in the unintended legacies you wouldn’t expect. For example, would we have Giant Bomb without Kane and Lynch? Are there any surprising legacies from games that you can think of?

Danny Yorkus

Hello friends! I have two questions, maybe pick the one you think is more interesting. Since a lot of people miss the theatre experience these days, have you ever walked out on a movie and if so what was it? Any crazy theatre stories that have stuck with you? for me it was the The Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliffe. What games or game franchises have you completely skipped that would surprise the community?? I have never played a Final Fantasy game (sorry Ben) nor have I played a Mass Effect game. Thanks! -Danny

MyDogIsHip

Hej from Denmark! Commuting to work was often a chore but working from home now I think back fondly to a portion of my commute where I biked along the inner harbor and had some fantastic views of sunrises and sunsets. From jobs recent and old, do any of you have a favorite portion of your old commute that you always looked forward to? Thanks!

Marty Cawley

Hey Ben and Cohorts! Ben I know you love the Double Fine Adventure documentary from 2 Player Productions. I watched it years ago on your recommendation from the GI Show, and love it too (I've watched it several times through in the years since)! I know Danny O'Dwyer and his YouTube channel NoClip have come up every now and then on the MinnMax Show, but I was curious if any of you have checked NoClip out recently? They just published the final episode of Developing Hell this week. This is the series covering Supergiant Games and the development of Hades. It's an awesome documentary series, and I can't recommend it enough if anyone hasn't watched it, especially if you enjoyed Hades! And if you're looking for other great docs on NoClip's channel, the recent one on Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of my favorites! It's a super interesting dive into some of the tech behind Flight Simulator, and had a surprisingly moving message and ending, especially considering everything that was 2020. Check it out! This post is long enough, but I also recommend their Arkane documentary. It shows footage of a bunch of Arkane's cancelled games, including that Steven Spielberg LMNO project, and a cancelled Half Life Game! Thanks again, and keep casting those pods, Marty Cawley Springfield, IL

Hey MinnMaxers What are your opinions on difficulty setting in gaming? There’s a lot of toxicity in the gaming community with gatekeeping certain games. As an avid from software fan myself I’m no stranger to a challenge. So it strikes me odd that I play most of my games on normal and never touch hard modes. What setting do y’all play in?

Chris H

Hey cohorts! In honor of the "horny on main" discussion last week and the mass effect legendary edition - what are your thoughts on romances in video games, obviously they can run the spectrum from pervy to weighty, but do you find yourself engaging if available? What are some of your favorites?

Holden Hintz

Welcome to Holden’s Hints with Holden Hintz! In this game, Via Ben Hanson, I will be giving you helpful hints at what media outlets determine is the message or takeaway from the particular content. This edition is Movies! We will be reading what parents determine is the spoiler free takeaway from a few of the IMDB top 250 films. Travis Manick

Hello, should the Subtitle option be listed under the Audio section or Gameplay section?

Cade Mead

In a perfect world, how would you all like your games re-released? A 1:1 port with minor updates for the hardware (Skyrim/GTA), a faithful remaster in a new skin (Soul Silver/Crash and Spyro trilogies), or some variation of remake where the gameplay and/or story may be changed (RE2make/FF7R)?

Donnie

Hey friends! Do you more often find yourself in the mood for multiplayer games with friends, or single player games with more substantial writing?

Ben with one N

What game genre do you want to see Nintendo's spin on that they haven't approached before? Such the way Metroid Prime and Splatoon were their takes on 1st and 3rd person shooters, respectively. Personally, I'd love to see their take on a city builder/RTS. Thanks for all you do, love the show. - Ben with one N

theDoctorsShade

Hello Cohorts! I am soon to be a married man, and I was wondering if the panel has any recommendations for table top games for newlyweds to enjoy at the end of a long day as a way to relax and hang out either as a couple or with friends. Many thanks for all the fun over the years, and I look forward to the things to come in the post-Diaz regime! -Kyle from Mississippi

Erin T.

Hey cohorts! What’s up with video game culture and the “just give it 10-20 hours, THAT’s when it really starts getting good” trope? Other than making shorter games – what do you guys think are some things developers could do to make these “amazing after X amount of hours” games hit their stride earlier, and remain engaging?

clay_dough

hey cohorts! I've been studying 3D art to hopefully work in the video game industry one day, but I continue to hear about all the horror stories of working in the industry. Long work hours, crunch time, and quick layoffs. One I've heard recently is people working on games and not enjoying playing games anymore. Out of all of these things this scares me the most. They always say do what you love and you won't work a day in your life, but what if your dream job ends up killing your passion. Did any of you experience losing your love of games having to work on reviews or content? If so, how did you get out of the funk? Any advice for how to prevent it?

Michael Moran

What's something that you spend more money on than most people and is it worth it?

Old Dad Hands

Hey gang! Long time listener first time question asker. When the Pokemon teeth brushing game came out of course I had to try. My third day the game kept telling me to "brush faster" "brush faster" "brush faster" so I did. When the two minutes were up my gums were TORE UP. My question is, besides hand injuries have any of you ever been injured while playing a videogame? Thanks for the great show! -Jacob aka Old dad hands.

chris cuevas

Hello CLCs. What setting would you like more games to take place in? Personally I always wanted more Feudal Japan Era games and within the last two years we finally got 2 amazing ones in Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima. Enough with the Vikings give us more samurai

EngelNUL

As part of my own personal BetterQuest (TM?) I have been trying to lift things up rather than put them down. So I am introducing BetterQuest 64, my 64 part series on being better by talking positively about things that are not typically liked. Part 1 is sewer levels. What are the best sewer levels in gaming? Typically sewer levels are tightly enclosed, full of poisonous enemies and puzzles to raise and lower water levels in order to progress. Do any stand out as being great or memorable to you? The best I can think of is the water dungeon in Link to the Past. Thoughts?

Hootz

Hey there, Minnmaxers! Jeffm, you had a baby last year! Congratulations! But here's a loaded question. When he gets older, do you plan on moderating Baby Kai's video game consumption at all? If so, what do you think your general strategy will be? Will he only be able to play "Kirby-likes" for an hour a day? Or, at the ripe age of 5 years old, will he be able to play Diablo with Jeff Cork's kids, as long as he does all his chores first? P.S. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Kirby-likes, by the way.

Kevin Kuper

Hello MinnMaxers! I'm currently playing through KOTOR for the 1st time as we eagerly await the Mass Effect Remaster and was thinking about how I never do renegade/ dark side playthroughs. Even when I decide to try the dark side/ renegade I still end up mostly making paragon / light side choices by the end. Am I alone in this? Are there certain decisions in games you never choose just because you can't make yourself do it? Thanks for everything you guys do!

Kyle Silva

Hey, guys. This week, I went hog-wild with my wallet and bought nearly $2000 (Canadian) worth of Apple products. Initially, this money was going towards my future trip to Japan that I wanted this year, but things aren't looking too optimistic for that. What do you think, will be your next big purchase?

Shipwright

Hello MinnMax crew! Longtime listener, first time subscriber and writing in. My question is do you ever have specific memories of games linked with a certain food or drink? I’ve found that if I’m consuming a lot of a certain snack while playing a game for the first time I always have that memory burned in my brain. For example I always link Lego Star Wars and Dots Candy, Oblivion with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, and The Last of Us with Buffalo Wild Wings (I used to work there and after work would eat wings and try to fend off clickers at the same time) Do you have any experiences like this or any weird memory associations linked with gaming? Thanks love the show! -Ryan from Minneapolis

Brandon Milligan

Hey cohorts, Have you ever completely missed an incredibly integral aspect or mechanic of a game, discovering it well after you needed it the most? For example, in Mass Effect 1, I didn't realize the Mako (the vehicle sections) had a second weapon. So for almost the entirety of the game when approaching a tough enemy, I would park perpendicular to the enemy a half mile away, driving back and forth to avoid damage while painstakingly firing the machine gun at them, taking upwards of 45 seconds per enemy. I just thought those sections were unbelievably awful. Turns out, they're just not that great. Excited for experience them again in May though! Thanks guys! -Brandon from Illinois.

MickManga

Hiya computer loving cohorts, If you could have one game always available on every platform for the rest of your life, what game would you choose? For myself it would be Pokemon Black 2, that game is pure comfort food for me that I replay endlessly. Though Donkey Kong Country, Rune Factory Frontier and Tetris Attack are really close too.

Sam Morrow

Hello MinnMax. Recently I’ve been playing Crash 4 It’s About Time and having a blast. It is a great throw back to old game ideas while also implementing some much needed modern touches. What surprises me most about the game is the extreme difficulty. While not unfair, I often struggle to make it through a single level after dying dozens of times. This made me realize, I don’t think I could ever 100% this game. All the boxes, secret tapes, inverted gems, I don’t think I have the patience’s or ability to do everything. What is a game that you enjoy that seems to difficult or time consuming to fully complete and see everything?

Guy Incognito

Howdy, cohorts. With 2020 2.0 ongoing, it's still a good time to wallow in existential crises. A common contemplation is considering if a higher power exists. Below I've got some gaming gods and god-like deities listed and the panel has to name the franchise that higher power hails from. Arceus - Pokemon Palutena - Kid Icarus Gwyn - Dark Souls Kronika - Mortal Kombat Hydaelyn - Final Fantasy XIV Sheogorath - The Elder Scrolls Savathûn - Destiny Aman'Thul - World of Warcraft Yu Yevon - Final Fantasy X YHVH - Shin Megami Tensei Universal Will - Guilty Gear

Sean Mason

Hey CLCs The Embracer Group (THQ Nordic, Deep Silver etc) has made a play for not one but TWO developers in Gearbox Software and Aspyr Media. Gearbox has its Borderlands fame, while Aspyr is a dark horse since they’re the rumored favorite for the KOTOR remake/reimagining. My question is this: how much more consolidation will we see this year? With gaming continuing to balloon in value, I think we will see Microsoft and Sony continuing to lock up talented devs and IP to secure quality in their future catalogs. I also believe we will see the introduction of outsiders like Apple and Amazon in traditional gaming with a big splash purchase. Best, Sean M.

Mike Lynch

Hey CLC's. How are you doing? Love the show. -Mike

Cameron

What’s the quickest you’ve dropped a game and for what reason? Not starting it at all or only getting to the title screen doesn’t count!

AnAttackCorgi

Hello Ben Handsome, Jeff Marchiaflava, and Kyle Killiard! AnAttackCorgi here asking about the Mass Effect Remaster. I'm super excited to play it. That said, does the panel think the game has aged well? Do you foresee some gameplay sequences being much more cringe-inducing? I keep thinking back to Shepard being able to punch a reporter for being nosy in all three games. Maybe I'm just used to the last 4 years, where the US government was hostile to reporters, but I don't think this sequence ages well. Cheers and don't punch the press, AnAttackCorgi

henrik mortensen

Hello you I am wondering, why should I buy the Mass Effect Legendary Edition when I can just download all the three games and more (Andromeda) with my xbox game pass edition? Do you feel the same, and if so what would the legendary edition have to have for you to buy it instead of playing all of them for "free"? Hate your show Love your eyes
