Ubi drops assassins creed all over our consoles and people eat it up. I bought into the hype with Valhalla and got what I expected, a totally average, forgettable, meh feeling game. What franchise do you just not get the hype for?

Jordan Blayney

Hey guys, What are your feelings on entering giveaway contests? Have you ever won anything from a contest? I unexpectedly won a Nintendo Switch and 4 games from a giveaway a few years ago. Love listening to the show every week!

Hey gang! So I was watching this terrible kids show with my two year old on Netflix called "Masha and the Bear," and at one point the bear started playing "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven on piano, and it got me thinking: is there anyone who doesn't like this song? It's so darn pleasing every time I happen to hear it. So my question is this: are there any songs that are universally liked by everyone? If so, what could they possibly be? If you want to gear this more towards video games, what video game songs are universally liked? "Peaceful Days" from Chrono Trigger? "Aquatic Ambience" from Donkey Kong Country?

Eric Dowdy

Hello Minnmax Crew, In honor of the Superbowl and its annual high-dollar commercial bombardment this past Sunday I thought it might be fun to look back at old video game commercials and ask you all what your favorites are. My favorite would have to be the “So Happy Together” Smash Brothers commercial with an honorable mention going out to the “Michael” PlayStation ad. Love to hear what you think! Thanks for the great podcast!

After Ben saying last week that he was playing and enjoying The Pedestrian, when is he going to admit that he likes puzzle games and they are probably his favorite genre? He seems to play and enjoy every puzzle game that comes out, but still for some reason maintains he's not a fan of the genre.

Tactical Dreamer

Hello Ben and Friends, What are some of y'alls favorite (podcast approriate) Valentine's Day memories? Thanks, Tactical Dreamer

Suppose you're given the opportunity to design and run a randomized control trial to estimate the causal effect of something video game related. What study do you want to run? Some parameters: money isn't an issue, but ethics are. An example might be: make all participants have a discussion with someone of opposite political spectrum, but the treatment group plays Journey for a bit ahead of time. See if Journey primes ppl to be more cooperative.

Fred Dinovo

Howdy crew, What game publisher do you think you buy the most and least games from? Thanks!

RickyWinterborn

ben and tim longo pointed out that almost every game now seems like 1-3 other games as inspiration, fused together. can everyone name there dream game that combines 3 currently released games? mine is advanced wars+metal slug+worms.

Dylan Drazek

Hey there Hanson and the handsome 3! Over the last couple months, I’ve been submerged in the world of Twin Peaks after hearing it noted as one of, if not THE most influential television shows of all time. The creator has remained famously tight-lipped on his intended meaning of the whole thing which has sparked conversation and theory talk for almost 30 years. My question is this: what is one piece or series of media or multimedia that you are either intending on partaking in at some point, or are maybe too intimidated to jump in to? Thanks y’all. Love all the content!

Hey Team MinnMax, This past weekend's Super Bowl gave me a fun what if thought. If you could have a Super Video Game Bowl, or better yet a Video Game Olympics, what would be the games / events that you'd want to see? And would any of you think you'd have a shot at winning a medal? Stay warm up there!

I loved my Sega CDX when I was a kid. The CDX was one of the most unique consoles of all time. It combined the ability to play standard Genesis cartridges and the "ahead of it's time" Sega CD games into one unit. That's not all! You could even stick a couple of AA batteries in it, plug in some headphones and take it on the go as a portable CD player. Sony Walkman, move over! Little 7 year old me was feeling cool sitting in the back of my parents' Astro Van listening to the Batman Forever soundtrack on repeat. Fast forward to teenage me in 2006. The Xbox 360 was so hot! And me being a money starved teenager, I decided to sell off an old console as a get rich now scheme and purchase a new 360. Bye bye CDX. What a fantastic idea! I won't miss ya! NOT! I had no idea the rare piece of video game history I was in possession of. Looking at current eBay listings, the Sega CDX is selling for well over $600. Nearly $1000 with the box, controllers and games which I had. A copy of Sonic CD on its own is worth around $100. I wish I could go back in time and punch my short-sighted self in the face and said "GET A JOB, YA BUM!" So, my question is have any of you ever sold something or given something away that later turned out to be worth a lot of money? Is there anything you have parted with that you wish you could have back? Any valuable items that you managed to hang onto? Could be video game related or not! Thanks!

Hey Minnmax! I have a game for you- Metacritic Thunderdome! Two developers enter, one developer leaves. In other words, I’ve averaged the Metacritic score of each game company’s best ten games, and you’re going to figure out who’s average score is higher! I’ve included the top rated game and the game rated as number 10 for a hint if needed. Nintendo = (Highest: Ocarina of Time - Lowest: Wind Waker) vs. Rockstar = (Grand Theft Auto IV - Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and the Damned) Winner: Nintendo (96.9) Loser: Rockstar (95) Konami = (Metal Gear Solid 2 - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) vs. Activision = (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 - Call of Duty) Winner: Activision (94) Loser: Konami (93.7) Ubisoft = (Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - Rayman 2) Vs. Capcom = (Resident Evil 4 - Monster Hunter: World Iceborne) Winner: Capcom (92.7) Loser: Ubisoft (92.1) SIE = (God of War - Marvel’s Spider-Man) vs. Square Enix: (The World Ends with You - Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers) Winner: Square Enix (91.7) Loser: SIE (90.1)

Hey all, What's the most romantic moment from a video game you can think of?

Hunter Sax

Want to play a game? Basically ripping this off from Doug Loves Movies and the Valley Folk. I'll give you a synopsis for a video game that's two video game titles smashed together. Example: Barcoded assasin takes on prey by being one of the most effective sea predators. Answer: HitmanEater 1. Earth's greatest super soldier teams up with a former adversary, to prevent a galactic disaster, with grid based math using this magic number. Answer: Halo Three's 2. Angry demon hunter inspired by the Divine Comedy is a on a mission to test whether or not your PC is good enough to run it. Answer: Devil May Crysis 3. Gameplay inspired by Metroid Prime, in one of the most successful Sci Fi franchises goes back in time for steam punk werewolf hunting. Answer: Star Wars Jedi : Fallen Order 1886 4. While struggling with severe psychosis a warrior must travel to Helheim with the help of two wooden mallets to chip away a path. Answer: Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Climber

I finally got myself a gaming pc and a VR headset. I went with the valve index and it immediately blew me away. Half Life Alyx has been absolutely phenomenal so far. However, I haven’t seen very much of a major push for VR in a long time. It seems like the people who are interested in it have purchased it, while those not interested still haven’t had their opinions changed. Do you think VR has reached its peak of enthusiasm and will remain as a niche that only some people are very passionate about? P.S. The Jeff moment in Half Life Alyx should’ve won moment of the year, the entire level was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

Kane Dietzel

Who's your favorite villain from Resident Evil and why is it a tie between Wesker and that boulder?

DylanDuranged

Guys. It's time. We need to settle this once and for all. We NEED to have the Definitive Discussion on what the difference between what a Remake is, what a Remaster is, what a Reimagining is, and what a Straight Port is. I'm sick and tired of finding people confused about the difference on Twitter and other social medias.

Mackenzie Beyer

Hey all! I was finally able to get my hands on a PS5 today after many long and painful months of just not hitting the "checkout" button soon enough. I am beyond and excited, and it got me thinking about how new console releases are always so fun. So I'm wondering, which game console were you most excited to get your hands on when it came out? And which one disappointed you the most? Also my last name is pronounced like 'buyer' :)

Tim Lorow

With the release of Hitman, I figured this is the time to consolidate all my favorite hitman levels under one title. However this was, as you may expect, overly complicated. It involved having to download Hitman 1 and 2 in order to buy the free upgrade pack, and then transfer using an IOI account. Do you think this has any effect on sales of games that have these overly complicated schemes? The extra steps to determine what are included in the “deluxe edition” must be enough to make some people bail on their purchase.

I grew up as an eighties kid with my first intro into gaming with the Atari 2600 followed later in the decade with the NES. I fell out of gaming in my teenage years only to have a brief return when the PS1 was introduced and had the privilege of experiencing FF7 (best game ever), Resident Evil and Tomb Raider for the first time during that magic era of early 3D gaming. Life got busy after that with all the usual stuff and I wouldn’t get back into gaming until shortly after our kids were born 15 years later. As someone in their mid 40’s who grew up with those early stigmas of “gaming is for kids” and “hide your consoles from polite society”, I find that I’ve had a hard time letting go of some of those early stigmas. I don’t have any friends who game to share my enjoyment with and I find those old stigmas sometimes come up around non-gaming friends and colleagues. I not only enjoy gaming in my free time now but also have gotten into collecting and it’s become a very enjoyable part of my life. As older or semi-older gamers, did any of you wrestle with those early stigmas later into adulthood, how did you get over them and are there any good communities you’d recommend for Dads in their 40’s to connect with. Thanks and love the show!

Doreen Ford

In honor of Valentine's Day, what's the most romantic (or unromantic) game you've played with a partner?

Ryan Foshee

Howdy Ben and crew! I hope you’re all well and a happy early Valentines to you all! Something I love is going through old family photo albums or scrolling through my own digital archive of pictures on my phone. I feel like pictures really do hold so many stories and always lead me to wonder the thoughts and feelings of the people in the photos as well as what it would be like to be behind the camera. Imagine you’re able to hop into video game world armed with a camera (disposable if you want to get old school with it) in order to compile a photo album of moments and characters. What games would be top of your list to visit? What moments would you choose to capture? Are there any characters or scenery you’d love to take pictures of?

Ryan

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had advice for how to pitch pieces of writing to outlets. As someone who wants to get into writing as a career, not exclusively games writing per se, and have a lot of ideas but when it comes to making a pitch I feel like my understanding is lacking in how to do and how to be effective at the task. What would you recommend or is there somewhere, or someone, you can point to?

Zach Helton

Howdy crew! What are some of your all’s favorite video game trailers? With Mass Effect Legendary Edition on the horizon I’m reminded of watching the Mass Effect 3 trailer dozens of times. Thanks!

DangerZone

Hey Crew, Besides the wonderful videos by Leo Vader and Jacob Gellar, what videos do you watch on YouTube? Do you have a favorite creator or do you like mosey around and watch random videos? Keep up the hard work! Jacob

Mark Ramirez

Prediction time! Which will be talked about MORE during end of year GOTY talks: Biomutant or Resident Evil Village?

Kees ('Case') Mulder

I played around two hours of Monster Sanctuary on game pass this week, and while I really like the idea of Pokémon-meets-Metroidvania, the mediocre execution of the platforming, balance of the combat, pixel art & level design made the game simply not fun for me. So, my question is: What games had the best idea, which were messed up by mediocre execution? And the reverse: what game idea should never have worked, but works anyway in due to great execution?

AnotherRobot

A recent article published on ScienceAlert written by Leo Rodriguez and Shanshan Rodriguez theorized a human could safely fall into an isolated, supermassive black hole. The catch is, you would never be able to report your findings. I think this is fascinating news, and I'm ready to jump into one. My question is, would you? Assuming you survive, what do you think you would experience?

Gabe Brandolino

If you were a little person in a big world, what would be the first thing that you would do?

Erin T.

Hey MinnMax folks! What do you think the percentage of video game purchases in 2021 will be that are *completely* uninformed? I’m talkin’ “grandma buying a game for a grandson, with zero idea about what it is or whether they’ll like it”. In the era of smartphones, do you think people are still walking into a store and buying video games sight unseen, right off the shelves?

Grizzled Gaming

Hello Bennie Hanson and the Hansonites! What was the last thing you randomly watched, but had no intentions of when you sat down to watch TV? Somehow I ended up watching “The New York Times Presents Framing Britney Spears” on Hulu and I can say for certain that wasn’t what I thought I was going to be watching when I cut the TV on.

Cody Hester

Dear MinnMax, What is something that puts a smile on your face within moments of it starting? It could be a song, or a game intro, or anything. Thanks for the stuff. Keep on keepin' on.

Charles Bean

Hello Friends, I just finished Twin Peaks and I can’t decide if that show is the worst thing ever or absolutely genius. Have any of you seen this ridiculous thing? Might I suggest a little thing called The Deepest Dive.. Thanks Ben and Cohorts!

MouseRat

Hey guys, curious what you think of the news about WB patenting the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor? Besides it being a bummer we wont see it in other games, it seems other developers have spoken out in general about the practice of patenting game mechanics or systems being a crappy thing to do.

AnAttackCorgi

Hello CLCs! For a Valentine's Day question, who do you think are the best videogame couples, or who do you think should be 'shipped' the hardest? On a different note, Xbox wants to make a real-life Warthog from Halo in partnership with Elon Musk. While I think that money could go to better causes, like charities, I also think there's validity here. It may inspire young gamers to pursue engineering careers, for example. What're your thoughts on celebrity crossovers like this, and what other projects do you think would be cool? Cheers and look both ways before crossing the street so you don't get run over by a warthog driven by Elon Musk, AnAttack Corgi

TommenDotGif

Hi guys! Have you ever played a level or part of the game that was so good the rest seemed a little underwhelming? I recently finished and loved all of Hitman 3 but the Berlin level was so amazing that I felt a bit disappointed in the rest

John Lee

Hello crew! First time contributing here! So let's get to it... Out of the games you know are in development currently, which one would you pay the most to play right now and how much!?! For clarification you wouldn't get the game at the build it's at now, you would magically get the complete game of what they're aiming for! As an example: God of War 2 is easily my most anticipated right now and I think I'd pay at least $300-$400. Or a finger. Only kinda joking about the finger! Thanks for all the content y'all! And can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Joe Dean

Hey Cohorts, Slay the Spire finally came out on Android on the 3rd and I've put a decent amount of hours into it - it's fantastic. I normally don't get into deck-building games but mobile seemed like the perfect platform for it. I don't know why it took so long for the Android version vs IOS, but I assume some exclusivity deal. So my questions are what's a game that you played not because you love the genre, but because the platform in was on was so perfectly suited to the game? For what reasons does IOS get so many more games than Android? Obviously Apple probably gives devs buckets of money, but is there more to it? Thanks, Joe Dean

YARF

When life’s ups and downs start becoming more down than up, what do you guys do to weather the storm and reset? Is there a certain game that is comfort food, or activity, something to dump out that bucket of toxin and refresh the spirit? Keep on keep’n on y’all!

Jonathan Fenn

Hey Guys, In honour of John Williams' birthday the other day: who is the John Williams of video games? Nobuo Uematsu? Koji Kondo? Austin Wintory? If there's no one on Williams' level, who would be the four Mount Rushmore heads? Keep up the good work, Jonathan

Matt Robinson

Howdy cohorts! I’m currently about halfway through AC Valhalla. I never usually use a horse or even a car when you have to call it to you (ala Cyberpunk 2077, GTA, etc) I almost always play on foot to soak in the world and immerse myself. But I have to say I am constantly using my horse in AC, and the same with Ghost of Tsushima recently. So my question is, is there a mechanic that’s been around forever that you never used or just never utilized that a certain game changed your mind and play a game differently than you normally would? ps. Hanson what do you think of the new AFI tracks?

Sam Morrow

Helloooooo MinnMax! My wife and I just finished watching Cobra Kai on Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed it. While neither one of us we’re big fans of the Karate Kid movies, I feel like this show elevated the core concept to new levels. What other movies or shows from the past could benefit from a reimagining, whether in the form of a new series or game? Are there any movies that you feel concepts remain unexplored that you would like to see?

The Diddler

If a publisher gave you a choice to kill one of their current franchises in order to resurrect one of their dead franchises; which franchise would you kill and what would you bring back? (It has to be the same publisher. No killing an EA game to resurrect something Square did.) I would kill DOA beach volleyball extreme (Or whatever) and bring back Ninja Gaiden)

Matthew Weatherley

I recently had a unique gaming experience. I have been obsessed with the sound track to sayonara wild hearts ever since Kyle talked about it a couple of years ago in a best songs of the year chat. Finally a couple of weeks ago I bought the game on switch and loved it. It was a truly novel feeling knowing every song so well and then finding out how the gameplay matched the music. Have any of you ever been obsessed with a game soundtrack before playing the game.

chris cuevas

Hey Ben and all the CLCs. Do you have any nostalgia for PUBG at this point? The adventures of the Spider and Dan the floorboard assassin Tack was some of my favorite online content ever and I miss the heyday of PUBG. My cousins and I re-downloaded it since we're feeling nostalgic for the janky hijinks that only PUBG delivers and it's fun but it definitely doesn't compare to the magical days of discovering Erangel. Do you think there will be a PUBG2, it's a bizarre universe that they seem committed to expanding but sadly it feels like they'll be relegated to a footnote in the gaming history books.

Shipwright

Hello Cohorts! With all the news coming out about current gen (PS5 Xbox Series X) updates/patches coming to last gen games, are there any in particular you are looking forward to? Any that will make you go back and play the game? And in another vein any that you wish they would update even if it hasn't been announced? Personally I am most excited for the God of War update on PS5 Thanks love the show!

Shipwright

Hello Cohorts, Another question here, I have incredible nostalgia for the Harry Potter licensed games as they came out but replaying them all showed me just how wildly different all the versions were between handheld, console, and PC. Are there any other major instances where the different system made for practically an entirely different game/experience? Thanks love the show! Also stream Leo playing Chamber of Secrets on PC for New Show+

How many gameboys do you own? What’s your favorite?

Downpour

I've recently been on a FromSoftware kick, playing Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and now Sekiro in the past month. It made me realize something about their games. I like their new IP's or firsts over their sequels. If you count the unreleased Elden Ring, 3 of their last 4 games have been new IP's. How sustainable of an approach do you think this is? Could every new game they make be a new IP in a new world with new tweaks on the Souls formula? Personally I would be completely fine if we never got a sequel to Bloodborne or Sekiro, despite how much I love those games, because I find FromSoft is at their best when working on a brand new world. Thanks, Downpour
