Welcome Janet!!! Are any of the cohorts currently waiting for a game to go on sale before they buy it? Do ya'll do that a lot? I find myself constantly putting off games, not wanting to pay full price for them.

Steven Toth

If you could add an assist trophy to smash who would it be and what would they do?

Jonathan Wright

Hello, Ben and the CLCs! Welcome, Janet! What’s the best spell in the Final Fantasy franchise?

Ryan Besadny

New voice, sweet! She's supporting a charitable organization on Twitter, double sweet! Great nnews!

King Promethus

The success of Monster Hunter World and Rise has me thinking about devs with passion for what they make. So the question I have for you cohorts (and welcome Janet!) is what is your favorite example of a passion project? Games or other media. -KP

RickyWinterborn

i feel like battle royales as the big gaming trend are finally cooling off. predict the next industry sweeping trend!

Taylor Owens

Hey everyone (and welcome Janet!) it’s time to play everybody’s favorite game - Will it ever come out?! These are all officially announced games that have not been officially cancelled - yet. Will they ever come out? Bayonetta 3 Michel Ancel’s Wild Skull and Bones Babylon’s Fall Beyond Good and Evil 2 System Shock 3 Bioshock 4 Star Citizen

Jeeo Banogy

Hey Ben and New Cohort Janet! Really enjoyed when you first guest-starred on the show and I'm looking forward to seeing much more of you on the show! But enough of the welcomes! Now for the hard hitting question: what game suffers the most from not having it's music? Recently I tried playing Xenoblade Chronicles without its music to try and sidequest and podcast, but the world felt so dead! What are y'alls thoughts?

omanzo7

Hey Janet and the rest of the Minnmax crew, With a lot of the big games being quiet so far it’s time for us to put on our future reading glasses. I have a list of games with no date announced and are presumably coming in the the next year or so. What month do you think these games will release? Halo infinite Zelda BOTW 2 Gotham knights Horizon 2 Hellblade 2 Bayonetta 3 God of war 2 Far cry 6 Star field Thanks hope this gets everyone excited for the next couple years of games!

Jake Z

Yay! Love Janet and her spicy opinions! I was thinking she would be a great additional cohort. And now that she's a cohort and Suriel can't get her kicked off the show, I want to hear her thoughts that she's been teasing on Kentucky Route Zero and why she disliked it?

Joe Kafchinski

Hello, Bennie and the Jan-ets. Do you folks know who I have to call to get developers to lay off the freaking fog effects already? They spend millions of dollars and who knows how many hours creating these beautiful, detailed environments just to obscure them with their fancy volumetric fog tech. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, guys. While I have them on the line, are there any other modern gaming "improvements" the MinnMax crew wants me to ask them to cool their jets on?

Thomas Deranek

Janet! Welcome! Just wanted to add my own personal excitement to have you officially as a cohort! You've brought great perspective to last podcasts and I'm looking forward to hearing it more often!

Doreen Ford

Janet! Welcome! (Also hi to the rest of the CLCs of course) In celebration of Janet's arrival what's a time that a show/podcast/piece of media you liked gained a new cast member, host, etc. and it made that media better in a really noticeable way?

Nick from Atlanta

A regular hello to the boring and passé Cohorts, and a very excited HELLO!!! to new Cohort Janet! Earlier this week, multiple news outlets reported that an Italian Mafia fugitive was caught after being on the run for 7 years. He had created a YouTube cooking channel and didn't cover up his distinctive tattoos. If you were on the run, what's the weird thing you'd get caught doing? Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Jacob Lairson

Hey Janet and the MinnMaxions, What’s an indie game genre your constantly looking for? Every couple of months I make a compulsory google of “games like sonic adventure 2 chao garden” and always come up short. Balan wonderland has something similar now, but uh, I’m gonna wait a bit for the price to come down. Is there a genre or mechanic you’d like to see return in one of these smaller more focused spiritual successors? Ciao!

MatterMatters

Hey cohorts! Question for Janet, what's the hardest part for you about writing/recording solo content? Love the weekly podcast!

Chree McGee

Welcome Janet! So awesome to have a new Cohort. I've been playing Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla lately, and although it is entirely too damn long, I've been really loving the massive, beautiful time machine they've assembled. Does the slight sameness of their content warrant their status among some as a purveyor of mediocrity? Considering that Ubisoft makes these games (all of a pretty consistently high quality, IMO) almost every year like clockwork, do you think they're overrated, underrated, or just rated?

Shipwright

Welcome Janet and Hello to the whole crew! Recently I've been doing a lot of multitasking when not gaming and usually like to have on some background TV to half-listen to. I've come to the realization that my favorite background/comfort shows to have on are cooking shows, as I have been watching a lot of The Chef Show with Jon Favreau and The Great British Baking show. What are some of your favorite background/comfort shows to have on? Also - when you guys hit the goal to record the LOTR commentary tracks, you should do a small deep dive on LOTR in gaming as a tease up. Quite a few hidden gems in the catalog. Off the top of my head: - The Return of the King (PS2/Xbox) -The Two Towers (PS2/Xbox) -The Fellowship of the Ring (PS2/Xbox - also terrible) -The Hobbit -Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 (RTS games that were actually great) -Lego LOTR -LOTR The Third Age (turn based RPG) -LOTR Conquest (PS3/360) -LOTR War in the North (PS3/360) -Lord of the Rings Online (which Amazon is making a new LOTR MMO apparently?) -Shadows of Mordor/Shadows of War I own copies of almost all of these and live locally, can lend out if you want to capture footage. But a fun topic nonetheless! Thanks love the show!

Mike Lynch

Janet Garcia! Welcome, Cohort! I'm so glad you're here because you've always been a great guest. I saw on your Twitter feed that you took up skating. Have you been at it long?

Hi, MinnMax! If given the option, would you rather be a kid gamer again now? On one hand, you’ve had the experience of midnight launches, the era of couch co-op and arcades. On the other hand, kids these days have access to most classic games for bargain bin prices, don’t have to worry about new games being out of stock, etc. In other words, do you feel like your gaming childhood was better than kids have it today?

John Scovic

Hey Janet and the Janettes, What is the single best cast or voice cast ever assembled? The one that you look at a list and just say "wow, they got ALL of them??" Movies, animation, games, etc. MCU is cheating. This question brought to you by the voice casts of the HBO Harley Quinn show and Invincible on Amazon. Thanks!

Thom Blackburn

Hi Janet and the old minnmax horts! I have a simple "This or That" game! 1. Cats or dogs? 2. Xbox Scorpio or Xbox One X? 3. The IT Crowd or The Mighty Boosh? 4. Public Enemy or public domain? 5. Vitamins or Minerals? 6. 4 wheel drive or All wheel drive? 7. Playstation plus or xbox live gold Bonus Question! 8. The Purge or The Dirge? Thanks, Thom

What's up, kids? Welcome, Janet. I live in SoCal and recently drove to San Antonio, TX to visit my parents for a week. On the drive back (it's I10 all the way, pretty much nothing but dry, boring desert), I saw a rather fancy sports car, several of them, actually, in a little convoy. All mat black. All very expensive looking. All had GameStop logos painted on the sides along with Wall Street Bets. I wonder if this was a group of dudes that struck it rich on the GameStop stock roller coaster? Anyway, one of the cars had a Texas personalized license plate that read "Anti Lag." I thought that was pretty good. If the cohorts were going to get personalized license plates, what would they say? Mine would probably be LV-42666, a mashup of my love of Alien and heavy metal. Keep up the awesome work and remember, Heavy Metal Is the Law.

Cade Mead

If you could have a dream team film director, author, and recording artist collab to make a game, who would you choose, and what kind of game would be made?

Jeorin

Last weekend my brother and his family were able to visit for the first time since the pandemic started thanks to the COVID vaccine. My niece was very excited to show off her skills in Mario Odyssey. She beat the second boss of the game without dying and lept off the couch letting out a triumphant roar. It was the best. So, my question this week is: What is your favorite family gaming moment?

YARF

Have you ever been playing a video game, on a fun adventure, having a good time, and then looked around your empty living room, looked outside at the gorgeous sunny day, and thought “JESUS CHRIST”?

AnAttackCorgi

Hello Hello Janet Garcia podcast crew! Janet recently tweeted about how annoying the Book of Love is in It Takes Two because it’s the typical Spanish Latin Lover stereotype. 6 Days in Fallujah also uses stereotypes of Middle Eastern people to convey its experience. Why are we still having these issues in 2021 and what tips do you have for developers if they want to avoid making stereotypical characters in their games?

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax crew, and welcome Janet! My question is what are some of your favorite easter eggs in video games? One of my top favs has to be the newspaper in the bar in Uncharted 3 that says 'Scientists still struggling to understand deadly virus.' They had originally planned The Last of Us to be revealed in June 2011 but it didn't reveal until the VGA's in December, a month after Uncharted 3 released. Neil and Bruce even mentioned how they forgot to take about the easter egg. So there was a month there where everyone was speculating if Naughty Dog was working on TLoU or if they were helping whomever was making it (since the teaser website had already come out) and it was just a fun time during that period of speculation. No one knew Naughty Dog was secretly developing two games at the same time, and an easter egg almost ruined it.

It looks like I can take "Janet Garcia joining MinnMax" off my vision board now. Welcome! Ben, did you give her her free complimentary toaster yet for joining? Anyways. I went through the PS3 and PS Vita stores looking for games to purchase before they shut down later this year. I concluded that having a game available for purchase is not the same as game preservation, as many have argued. We are merely talking about preserving our ability to play a game. And there's nothing wrong with that, but they're entirely different motivations. Now get your first-born ready for sacrifice because, thankfully, our god, Sony, will allow us to continue to download and play our purchased content for the foreseeable future. But, it got me thinking about what game preservation is and who is responsible for it. So I pose these questions to you: At its core, what is game preservation, and who is ultimately responsible for preserving a game?

Erin T.

Hey Cohorts, and welcome aboard Janet! Please grab a piece of paper and something to draw with (or a tablet). In one minute, think of and draw *exactly* what Sony’s first PS5 revision will look like. More fins? Less fins? Let’s see it!

Grizzled Gaming

Hey, gang! Ben, tell Janet Grizzled Gaming says "Welcome". She'll know what it means. I finally decided it was time to pull the trigger on a PS5, but I had no idea they were still so hard to find! In general, why do you think it is always so difficult for console manufacturer’s to keep up with demand in the early going? And do any of you have any pro-tips to help me snag one faster?

IanTClark

JANET! How excited are you for Splatoon 3?

jacob hubbard

Howdy, Cohorts! Long time listener, first time writer. This week I was reminded of how integral video game demos were for me as a kid. It was an inexpensive way to try out multiple games/genres in short fashion. Sadly, these days, we don't see too many anymore. Do you think we will ever get back to a time when it demos are more popular? Or will Resident Evil be the only series to continue carrying that torch? Bonus; what were some of your favorite game demos of yesteryear? Thanks!

Old Dad Hands

Hey Jabronies This is my first bunny day experience in Animal Crossing New Horizons. I am having a rough time catching water eggs for my DIYs. I am frustrated with the community for complaining so much last year about the amount of eggs a player would catch fishing that the devs changed it with an update to be less eggs more bass. My question is, in your opinion was there a game that was changed for the worse because of community complaints? Thants -Old Dad Hands

Ryan Brister

Hello cohorts! What historical settings are you tired of seeing in games? What settings do you feel haven't been explored enough?

James Martin

Hey Cohorts - When I was younger I had dreams of making my perfect video game. I'd doodle in my notebook how it would work/the story/the designs etc (it was a detective life simulator). If you could make your dream game what would it be and why would it be unique/better than existing games?

God's Garage

Hello cohorts and welcome Janet! We’re all excited to have you I’m sure! I heard we were talking indie games, and a big conversation point right now is PlayStation’s Play At Home initiative, releasing 8(?) indie games some normal and some vr for free including titles like Subnautica, Abzu, and Thumper. However, I’ve heard some complaints that PlayStation isn’t doing enough for their fan base when compared to Microsoft with their Games with Gold and everything they’ve been putting out on Gamepass after the Bethesda Acquisition. My question to you, Are people justified in being mad at PlayStation for giving away indies instead of AAA titles, or are these complaints just those of whiney baby gamers who need to play more games outside of their normal sphere. Thanks!!

Joshua Caleb

Hey Ben and the CLCs and welcome Janet to the Computer Loving Club! (Insert upbeat anime opening here) I recently discovered the "Haunted PS1 Demo disc". It's a collection of indie horror game demos packaged in an explorable 3D, PS1-style environment. Nearly all the games are made in a very, "cronchy" low-polygon graphics style that is surprisingly effective at being incredibly scary despite the very primitive visuals. Is there something inherently "spooky" about the low-poly, PS1/N64 aesthetic, or are these developers just very good at horror?

James Ford

Hello Minners and Maxxers and welcome Janet! Are you more of a Minner or Maxxer? My main question is a few weeks ago Little Nightmares 2 was proclaimed a Kyle game. Do the rest of you have a genre/sub genre/ type of game that you can point to confidently and call a Ben, Janet, JeffM and Suriel game?

MickManga

It's an odd question but do you all think that the DS is the classic system of choice for a new generation of gamers? I have noticed that ds games have skyrocketed in price lately, it kind of reminds me of when my generation who grew up with snes got old enough to have jobs and started to seek out snes games they couldn't afford as kids. Or they are feeling nostalgic for games they no longer own. I have seen Wii, Ps3 and Xbox 360 games stay roughly the same price but for whatever reason the DS market if rapidly climbing. For evidence Harvest Moon DS Cute is averaging 45 dollars, all pokemon ds games are going for over 100 dollars for authentic copies, etrian Odyssey series is going for 60 plus to name a few. And there is now a huge market of fake reprint ds games, much like how it is for snes games. What are your thoughts I'd love to hear it?

Colton Westbrooks

Hello! Suriel mentioned last week that he thinks he bought MGS 4 before he even had a PS3. Have any of you ever done that with another game? Personally I did the same thing with Oblivion. Morrowind was my favorite game, and had kind of changed what I thought was possible in gaming, so I was super excited for Oblivion, but could not afford a 360 at launch. However, I still bought the collector’s edition of the game and the strategy guide to help tide me over. Thanks for all you do.

Sean Mason

Howdy! A few days ago my sister and I were having a conversation about our favorite childhood cereals. I was vehement that Golden Grahams were the greatest cereal of our childhood. She argued that that couldn’t be possible because Golden Grahams doesn’t even have a mascot. That sparked a discussion about who would win in a Battle Royale between all of the cereal mascots. My money is Count Chocula! He’s part vampire! Who do you guys think would in a Battle Royale between cereal mascots? Best, Sean M.

Hey everyone! I watched Speed after hearing it mentioned on the show a while ago, and there's a scene where Keanu is chasing the bus to warn them about the bomb. They don't know he's a cop yet, so after cracking the glass on the door and stealing a car to chase the bus, a passenger says, "man sure has a hard-on for this bus." This has to be the most absurd line I've heard in such a popular movie, so my question is - what is the weirdest/most absurd movie quote you remember? Thanks for everything, Aaron

Hootz

Hello, Minnmax. And welcome, Janet! Janet, on a previous episode of this show, you stated that you were going to make a conscious effort to stay on top of all the new releases this year in order to become an expert in your field. How’s that coming along? I ask because I am wondering (assuming you’ve been at least mildly successful) if you have any tips on trying to fit more games into your gaming diet. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Anyway, keep on shifting gears and kicking rears!

Colin Burch

Hey Ben and crew, Real quick, please have a regularly occurring show with Jeff Cork and Joe Juba! Not necessarily together or with a set schedule, and I absolutely acknowledge I have no idea if you even get along anymore (or ever did). Just bummed thinking I won’t hear them much more, if at all, on my weekly podcasts. Ok, real issue and question now. My brother is in the Air Force. After being stationed in Oklahoma for over 20 years, he decided to move to Hawaii last week! Naturally, my first question after learning this, besides “Where did you just say you moved?”, was if my son (13) and I would come visit for extended periods whenever the chance arose. He said yes and within 24 hours I had secured one way tickets to HI. One way because HI is freaking expensive, and this was not an expense I was planning. Will buy return tickets later this month. I am a single dad on a budget. My only way to afford this is because of free housing/amenities my brother is providing combined with the fact I am lucky enough to have a job that I can do remotely. Working during the day means saving money for a variety of reasons but it also has one major drawback. My 13 year old son will be stuck in a house each day with no friends and none of his “stuff”. The Question: Do I ship, or bring with me, a console to help occupy him? We have a switch and that is coming, but it’s not either of our “go-to” system. We are lucky enough to currently have both last gen and next gen consoles so I was thinking of bringing an older one. Am I crazy? This kid is going to have nothing to do all day on weekdays for over a month.

Colin Burch

Ben, Why is the Xbox Series X Disc Drive whisper quiet while the PS5 sounds like a weedwhacker?

Marc S

Hello Ben and the Cohorts. Great show so far! I'd love to hear a specific nostalgic memory that you have from playing games as a kid. I used to love playing Cruisin' USA on N64 with my dad. The first time I learned the code to turn on the police car sirens I left them on for the whole race acting like I didn't know what was going on. My dad was confused and to the child version of me this was the height of comedy. Welcome aboard Janet!

Macka

Yessss! I was hoping that Janet would join the crew.
