does anyone feel weird about scantily clad anime people in games? i watched the review for nier and it looks really cool, but jesus that character's lingerie outfit is really pushing it... not that there's anything inherently wrong with the design, but i just pass on stuff like that if I know it'll be awkward up on my big tv when people walk by...

Matthew Goss

Hey MinnMaxions, me and my friends are having a debate. Who would win in a fight? Every bird in the world or every human in the world? No weapons/armor allowed. Also, google states that there are ~400 billion birds in the world and 7.8 billion people in the world. Thanks yall! - Matt from Austin, TX

RickyWinterborn

what do ya'll think of ben reeves as the host of the game informer show? i was pretty skeptical when he was initially given the role, but I've come to really love his uniquely awkward approach running the show. it's really helped the GI show stand out amongst gaming podcasts.

Troy Ellison

Hey Yo and the Zetties, what is your "person of good taste" game/series? I'm talking games or series that feel more niche than the mainstream success stories, and the instant someone brings them up your first thought is "yeah, this person's cool". For me, I woukd say the Nier series despite the recent successes of both Automata and the Replicant remaster, as well as the Nioh games and Okami

Steve B

Ive been reading the Returnal previews and am fully hyped. The rainfall coming through the dual sense rumble looks incredible. I've read it's implemented by the controller reading an audio file and turning that into the haptic feedback. Is there any older game sound/sound effect you'd love to see this retrofitted into?

Hey there Computer Liking Cohearts, Is anyone else fed up with the current phrases we have at our disposal for this hype culture we live in?? Last week my boss made me follow along a 4 hour recorded livestream video of two guys building a Facebook Clone project in React (a programming language). During this livestream recording, these guys said "LET'S GO!!!" at least 275 times. I get that people get excited about programming and $2 donations, but this is out of control. What are some other phrases we could start using to express our hype? I think either a "Yeah, get some!" (in a gravely Gears voice) or in Shulk's line from Smash "I'm really feeling it!" would work great!

MyNameIsDan

Hey team, How much do video game endings impact your overall opinion of a game? Kyle seemed to be really digging Age of Calamity at first, but when he experienced the ending his opinion of the game seemed to sour. I'm sure it varies by game, but would love to hear your thoughts! PS: I still think Mass Effect 3 was a great game despite the ending. Thanks, Dan

Eric Hunt

Hi Ben, Leo, JeffM, and Suriel! How are you doing? Ok, thanks bye! Just kidding! What is your go-to comfort movie? Something you know you can put on that you will enjoy, don't really have to pay attention to, and have seen many times? For my wife and I, it is Couples Retreat, the 2009 rom com starring Vince Vaugh, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, and Kristin Bell. I don't remember how that became our comfort movie, but we always go back to it whenever we don't know what to watch and are always referencing lines from it. If a movie doesn't come to mind, you can also pick a go-to comfort video game. Thanks!

Thom Blackburn

Do you want to help me pick the next game I play? Assume that I will start the game on RE8's release date. The choices are: 1. Resident Evil 8 2. Days Gone 3. Shadow of War 4. Soma 5. Wolfenstein Youngblood For added context, I am currently playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider so I would want something pretty different than that. Thanks, Thom

Fred Dinovo

Howdy, A challenge to those who have played it, off the top of your head whom amongst you can recite the most numbers in the Nier Replicant title?

Jake Z

What are your experiences with the Ratchet and Clank franchise and why have the games vibed or not vibed with you?

Jordan Blayney

I was looking through my DS and 3DS collection this weekend and I realized how many Dragon Quest games came to that system. Considering how well supported the DS line was and how well Dragon Quest 11S sold on Switch, do you think the next Dragon Quest game will also come to Switch? I don't hear anyone really talking about the next Dragon Quest game even though everyone loved it. Is there any chance we hear about the next Dragon Quest game this year?

Brandon Fream

A Hoy Hoy, I've been ruminating about the Halo Infinite development and can this game just become Metroid Prime 4? Master Chief / Samus Aran co-op grappling and tractor beaming all over Zeta. Just piecemeal all of the toys in the game and let us scan Moa's and Flood into our database.

Alex Montgomery

Hey there, I'm surprised by how many in the games press seem to be just figuring out that Returnal is a play on Return and Eternal. I think it's kind of clever, and fits with the games theme of returning to the start in a "seemingly" eternal loop. My question is: What's your favorite name for a video game? Personally, I'm a fan of the name of the PS3 comedy game Deathspank. It's just good old funny.

Mark Ramirez

Hey Minnmax Crew! You have a choice: if you could be transformed into Scrooge Mcduck, would you? You have a money bin full of money to swim in, but you are now a duck person. Are you Mr. Mcduck?

Justin Peigowski

Hey there everyone! 2021 has had a bit of a gaming drought, so I decided to visit Sekrio: Shadows Die Twice again. When first played the game in 2019, I got to a boss who uses lightning attacks and kept dying over and over to him. I became so frustrated that I put the game down and was completely done with it. Fast forward to now, and upon starting a new playthrough, I got to that boss again and finally whooped his lightning butt! Now I am really enjoying the game and am currently closing in on the end! My question is if there's a game you put down due to frustration or maybe just lost interest in it, but then you returned later and were able to get past that initial hurdle? Thanks and stay safe!

PODCAST GAME: Ratchet & Clank: Hit or Miss (NEW AND IMPROVED I PROMISE) Howdy, MinnMax crew! With Ratchet and Clank on the docket and closer than ever I thought it might finally be time to release a patch for my previous podcast game, “Ratchet and Clank: Swing, Hit, Miss”, which released last October to much cringe. I hope you will give the newly patched “Ratchet and Clank: Hit or Miss” a try! As you may know, Insomniac is famous for slipping double entendres into their Ratchet and Clank titles. Of course, many of their ideas never make it to print. In “Ratchet & Clank: Hit or Miss” the goal of the game is to correctly identify which titles below are Hits (actual titles) or Misses (known working or pitched titles). FUTURE has been removed from the PS3 titles in order to simplify things. Bonus points if you can guess what the final title for each Miss ended up being. Good luck! Your friend from Texas, Christopher C. Castillo THE LIST! Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (HIT) Ratchet & Clank: 4play (MISS, All 4 One) Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (HIT) Ratchet & Clank: Bros B4 Foes (MISS, All 4 One) Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty (HIT) Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nether Regions (MISS, Into the Nexus) Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (HIT) Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (HIT) Ratchet & Clank: Fiends with Benefits (MISS, All 4 One) Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (HIT) Ratchet & Clank: Clock Blockers (MISS, A Crack in Time) Ratchet & Clank: Multiple Organisms (MISS, All 4 One) Ratchet & Clank: Bang Bang Bang! (trick question: there was a Japanese comic spinoff titled Ratchet & Clank: Bang Bang Bang! Critical Danger of the Galaxy Legend)

Are stories like the one in Nier more effective due to its use of video games as a unique storytelling medium? What are some good stories in games that can only be told as a video game?

Divorced Cougar (Mike M)

Hello cohorts! What's your ideal environment to play games in? In a lit up room or or surrounded by darkness? Do you have a drink or snack? Are you fully engaged in the game or is your attention split? Are you alone or with others? Couch or chair? I personally find the most enjoyment with a relatively dark room, a candle lit, some seltzer (maybe some beer if it's the weekend baby!), on my couch with a blankie, and playing an engaging game that has at least some downtime for me to catch up on podcasts. Thanks for all of the great content and community!

Steven Lambson

Take turns calling a loved one on the show and tell them you appreciate them!

Brian W

I recently fired up tearaway on ps5 after completing astros playroom and oh boy it was nowhere near what I was expecting. From the drawn out opening of offscreen characters talking to the awkward controls it was instantly not the fun joyful follow up game I was hoping for. Have you ever had a game instantly defy your expectations?

Bryan Tylec

Oh, hi! I didn't see you there. This past week I was able to check an item off my bucket list that I never thought would be possible. For the longest time, I've had this goal that, when I die, I wanted one of those natural burials where they plant a tree to mark your grave so that the entire cemetery is just a big orchard. Except instead of a tree, I wanted a pumpkin patch and I also wanted to put up a sign in the patch that encourages people to pick a pumpkin for Halloween and, if they carve it into a jack o'lantern, I will personally guarantee them a free haunting during the entire month of October. For obvious reasons I thought that was just a pipe dream but somehow I not only found a cemetery willing to do all that stuff but they were super into it, too! Their response to me was "We're going to turn this into a whole event. We're gonna make you famous." Which is exactly the kind of response I wanted to hear. Even now, I am completely astounded that I was somehow able to pull this off. So my question to all of you is...what's the most impossible task you've ever been able to accomplish?

It's Hugo's Nook

Hi MinnMaxers, With the news of Nintendo adding online multiplayer to Super Mario Party out of the blue, 1 year after the pandemic and 3 years after it's release, it was a good reminder of how random this company can be at times. Stuff like adding Puzzle League and amiibo functionality to Animal Crossing 3 years later or adding the breath of the wild Link and it's Master Cycle to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - and nothing else since despite its sales. So my question is: if you were in charge of nintendo for a day, what could be the most random update for any of their games that you'd make happen ?

Noah D.

Hi Ben and Cohorts! I have a little E3 prediction that I've passed through a few notable journalists and they think there's a high likelihood of this happening. I'm predicting that at E3, to celebrate xbox's 20th anniversary, Xbox will announce Gamepass Legacy Collection (or something along those lines). It will be a special section added to gamepass that will be solely focused on year 1 titles for the original xbox via backwards compatibility. If this turns out to come to fruition, what titles would you like to see included in the collection? Keep on keeping on, Noah D.

Erin T.

Howdy ‘horts! *Seinfeld impression here, please* What’s the deal with: Video game culture and “just give it 10-20 hours, THAT’s when it really starts getting good”? Other than making shorter games – what are some things developers could do to make these “amazing after X amount of hours” games hit their stride earlier, and remain engaging? I think for most games (other than metroidvanias) giving players the most satisfying tools or weapons early on is crucial - if the game is better with the grappling hook, give it to me right off the bat! Returnally yours, - Erin

Andrew Uerkwitz

Does DIablo IV get released before Overwatch?

Zach Gileau

Hello, MinnMax! First time, long time. It's time to play the game that's been taking MinnMax by storm: Last 👏Paragraph 👏 of👏 a 👏Review 👏 You 👏 Wrote. I have taken the last paragraph from a review written by each of the cohorts and have removed the name of the game from each except. Guess the name of the game. You get a bonus point if you can guess the author. Good luck! 01: Darksiders III, Kyle "In many ways, *blank* feels like a game from the previous console generation. Its art design is distinct, and feels like an old comic book with vibrant colors and villains that personify their names. But that’s an old trope today, and it lacks the graphical detail we have come to expect in modern games. Compared to its action game competitors, the production values are lacking and I did run into distracting graphical hiccups and one full crash that required a reset. With all that said, I was eager to see what was around every corner. The layout of the world, the way Fury explores it, the few puzzles, and the combat are all well-designed, elevating it above the elements that make it feel like a game from the past." 02: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Suriel "*Blank*’s journey is familiar, but the way it iterates and builds on that familiarity helps distinguish it from its lineage. Its combat, RPG elements, and enticing exploration intertwine seamlessly, and had me obsessively scouring every nook and cranny of a gigantic map for hours, even after I’d defeated the last boss. I enjoyed finally returning to this haunted castle, even if it belongs to a new master." 03: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Kyle "I would love to see more experiments like *Blank* and Resident Evil 7 in virtual reality, where fully featured games get ported to this still-young medium. This port is rough, but I’m still hopeful that there is a game out there that works both ways. For now, if you want to revisit *Blank*, your best bet is to boot up one of the editions you already own or grab it on Switch." 04: Unravel, JeffM "With just a dozen levels, *blank*’s brief six-hour runtime still proves too long for the basic puzzle mechanics. However, the satisfying platforming, thoughtful story, and adorable protagonist make it a worthwhile journey. I grew tired of repeating the same puzzle solutions, but seeing *blank* through to the end was still a treat." 05: Metal Gear Survive,  Suriel "*Blank* doesn’t fail due to its baggage or expectations. It blunders entirely on its own merits. Its co-op suite shows promise and could become legitimately great in time, but the rest of *Blank* is a boring, grind-heavy slog where the biggest reward is simply more stuff. For as many bits of metal, wood, and fabric I had after 70 hours of play, I couldn’t help but think I’d wasted all of my time." 06: Until Dawn, JeffM "The beginning of *blank* boasts that the decisions you make during the game will craft a unique and personal story. By the time the credits rolled, I was a believer. Sure, every player follows the same narrative skeleton, and a few of the more "expendable" characters aren't instrumental to the ending (I'd also kill for a way to fast-forward scenes on subsequent playthroughs). However, the script kept me entertained and feeling like my decisions mattered throughout my 10-hour playthrough. Thanks to some good twists, a few fake-outs, and limitless jump scares, *blank* would make a solid horror film. As a piece of interactive fiction, however, it's a remarkable experience that horror fans shouldn't miss"

Hello my favourite gaming Podcast on the Citadel. So Mass Effect's Remaster is coming up soon, and I'm wondering how I'll play it differently than I did a decade ago. For me, I'm still embarrassed my main love interest throughout Mass Effect's trilogy was Ashley the Space-Racist. Looking back on her character, I can't believe she was my ride or die. So I'm asking the panel: are there games where you're flummoxed by the decisions you made back then? If you re-played that game, how would you play it differently? Cheers, and keep on calibrating, AnAttackCorgi

Mike Lynch

Hey Minnmax-ers. When you were growing up, were you a fan of something you thought was brand new, but turned out to be decades old? I watched Nick at Nite as a kid and thought it was from the 70's.

beetlehorn

Greetings Ben and the co-conspirators! First time writer-inner. I've realized over the past year the physical toll that long gaming sessions can have on my body. I was gifted blue-light glasses to help with eye strain, but the big problem is wrists and thumbs. I'm finding the Switch in handheld mode is an arthritis machine, and am now very grateful for the hefty, ergonomic dualsense controller. I have a friend who rubs cannabis oil on his wrists before long gaming sessions, but does the Minnmax gang have any other home remedies for gaming strain? Thanks for the hours of entertainment, and thoroughly enjoyed the Popcap doc! -Beetlehorn (Jun from Winnipeg, MB)

Dear Minnmaxers, I find myself in a weird conundrum. Everytime I leave a comment, personally that episode is ruined for me where only thing that goes through my mind while listening is will the next question be my question! How would it be received? Because of this many times I have avoided leaving a comment. Do you have any solutions for me? Thank you

IanTClark

What are your thoughts on class action lawsuits? Today I got a check in the mail for an amount in the single digits for some car radio service that apparently did something they shouldn’t have with their customer’s data. I don’t remember signing up or submitting for this class action suit, but I bet I get a dozen or so of these notifications a year in my mail box or email. One time, I got a couple of hundred bucks for participating. Do you ever click the link or mail in the form that gets you in the pool of (who knows how many) people that may be eligible for 75 cents in a year or two?

Gabriel Cleveland

Hey y'all, After sitting out the last console generation for Sony and Xbox, I've been using my PS5 to catch up on all the great PS4 games I missed, but after playing Uncharted 4, FFVIIR, and Last of Us 2, I'm already sick of loading corridors, which I understand were somewhat of a staple of the previous generation. But with such an increase in processing power for the new consoles, I'm hoping that squeezing through an inordinate number of awkwardly placed bookshelves and claustrophobic crevices will become a thing of the past. So my question is this: what signature aspect of this new console generation's architecture do you see becoming tedious over the next few years?

Sincerly, Eric

Hi! This question is stolen from the first Episode of the Fire Escape Podcast (Mike, Dan, and Mary are all a treat to listen to) If you had one short phrase to appear on the back of a box to get you to play it. What would that phrase be? I believe an example used is "perma-death." Or "persistent enemies"

Nick from Atlanta

Hey Cohorts! What are your favorite uses of Invisibility in video games? One of mine is definitely Chameleos from the Monster Hunter series, which actually just joined Rise with the latest update. It can go invisible and use its long tongue to steal your items, or sneak up behind you to poison you. No, this question isn't an excuse to tall about Monster Hunter! Thanks, Nick from Kamura - I mean Atlanta

Jon Daczko

Hi my question is regarding Sony buying EVO and interested to hear thoughts on this, and do you think Nintendo will pull there games from the show?? I think it's a very smart move on there part and will also build hype for Guilty Gear Strive which is a Sony console exclusive. Thanks :)

Crayter

Help me Cohorts! I decided to organize my switch and PS4 games in more or less alphabetical order. Some games present a problem for me however where I'm not 100% sure where I should put them. Not a library here, so the rules are somewhat flexible based on how you'd prefer to have something organized for quick reference. For example, would The Legend of Zelda be a T, L, or Z game on your shelf? That said, how would you alphabetically organize the following games: Sid Meyer's Cililaization VI The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim New n Tasty Oddworld The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild New Super Mario Bros U deluxe Bayonetta Vanquish 10th Aniversary bundle

Taylor Owens

Have you ever had a conversation with someone in the industry and afterwards thought “I wonder if that’s Wario64?” Who do you think Wario is? What kind of person are they? Are they actually human?

Cole kreider

So I recently decided to try to finish ReCore, I’m not sure why, and I have to say the difficulty spike is quite frustrating and I’m not sure at this point if it’s going to happen. What are some other games that have fairly easy and enjoyable gameplay that suddenly turn hard and make you want to give up?

Kyle Silva

What's popping cohorts? Friend of the show Jacob Geller put out another great video this week about games that save the best moment of their game for last, contrary to the development standard of putting that type of effort into its beginning. He mentions Thumper, Pistol Whip 2089, Superhot Mind Control Delete, and The Wonderful 101. Is there any games you would add to that list?

Strange Sloth

Zombie apocalypse or alien invasion? That’s it.

Fatt Mish

Hi Ben, friends, and the two Ns. Hope all is well. What are some things that you think games should implement more in 2021 and going forward? Like, for example, more randomization in world's, sharks, magic missiles, genre crossovers, bumping soundtracks, nudity, or cooking as examples. Personally, I'd like to see more abstract worlds, but I might be a weirdo. Take care!

Strange Sloth

Do you guys have video game ringtones or text alerts that are from video games? For me Ringtone: The Great Sea - The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker Text alert: Challanger approaching - Super Smash Bros

Zach Killian

Hey there cohorts! Since most of your work is video game related, what are some articles or videos you’ve done that are not video game related?

Joshua Caleb

Hey CLCs, so Nier Replicant added a new achievement/ending(?) Where you have to look up the skirt of an intersex character, at which point they kill you and you get a game over/ending. This gives the "Daredevil" achievement which references "discovering the character's secret". This is obviously a callback to the 2B "butt achievement" in Automata, but this one feels even more gross and offensive. Why do developers keep making these "jokey" achievements? especially in emotionally heavy games/scenes. At best, it takes you out of the game/scene and at worst, it's straight up offensive.

Denham Harry

Hey gang! Are there any games NOT currently in your physical library that you would love to have? For me, it's oddly Frogger Adventures: Temple of the Frog for GBA. Definitely a game no one has thought of for decades but holds a special place in my heart as the first game I ever owned. My toddler brother bit the cart clean in half when we were young, and I just want it back :(

Jonathan Fenn

Hey MinnMaxers, I've been replaying Horizon on New Game+ in anticipation for Forbidden West, and have absolutely loved revisiting what I consider one of the best recent sci-fi stories. Upon rewatching the announcement trailer from E3 2015, I realised that what they showed was a remarkably good representation of what would release two years later. We all know about how gameplay demos created for E3 can be a crunch-ridden rush to put something out which is unfeasible to reproduce for a whole game, but I was struck by the fact that taking down a Thunderjaw feels as good as it looks in that first demo. In your opinion, what are some of the best E3 demos, in terms of revealing something new and exciting, which is then actually delivered upon when the game released? What about the opposite - who are the worst offenders at totally misrepresenting what the final product would become? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, Jonathan

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello all! With Ratchet and Clank around the corner, I'd like look back at a forgotten Insomniac game. No, im not talking about the Gamestop published Song of the Deep, im talking about Fuse. I cant help but think it would have blown up if it came out today. With the moment to moment gameplay of Outriders and emphasis on co op, it could totally be a gamepass hit. It even has an art style not too different from Fortnite, especially if it released in its Overstrike phase. Is this just me? Fuse seems like a good time right now, and maybe it deserved a second chance.

Geoff Enright

Hello everyone. No question here, I just want to send good vibes! Especially since to read my comment you had to traverse the entire list so far! We appreciate you all. -Geoff aka Groffles
