Hello Cohorts! It's June, so that means it's Pride Month! As somebody always trying to be a better ally, I can't help but look at whether a company that changes its logo to a rainbow variant is doing it for the right reasons because they believe in equality or for the wrong reasons to just be a performative ally. What are some gaming companies that you feel demonstrate an effort to fight for the queer community? I think my number one is Respawn, with Apex Legends. They consistently work to expand on the history of their characters in a way that their sexual orientation or gender identity feels authentic, rather than tacked on. They also are unafraid to use official company accounts to even do simple things like reminding people that Bloodhound is non-binary. Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Hello and WELCOME TO DIE! This is a game I call Lost In Translation. The following video game titles have been translated from English to Arabic, to Japanese, to Spanish, to Hindi, to Russian, to Icelandic, to Welsh, then back to English. Your challenge is to guess the original title. For example, you could probably guess that “The call of modern warfare” was originally…. (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare) Here we go: Unknown 4-headed thief (Uncharted 4: A Thief's End) Prohibited Skyline to the west (Horizon Forbidden West) Highest Myth (Apex Legends) Tropical freeze ass kong (Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze) Spirit and Spirit (Ghosts n Goblins) A solid metal device for pain in your legs (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain) Animals traversing the city (Animal Crossing: City Folk)

What's a dream E3 announcement just for you -- Let's say they're making one copy only and you get it, what is that hyper-specific thing? Mine is a Tetris Effect Arcade Machine

DangerZone

Hey crew, I have been playing Gears Tactics on game pass and it has one of my favorite little things in all of games. All the customizations you make on your armor and weapons show up in the cutscenes. It’s something I always look out for in games but usually don’t see. My question is: what’s your favorite little things in games you look out for? Thanks!! Jacob

Hi Ben and company! Back when Mass Effect 2 originally came out, I remember having a conversation with someone who told me “Yeah the game is cool and all but I don’t get what all the hype is about.” Well… it turns out he had been playing the game as a shooter skipping every single cutscene and rushing though dialogue, I guess because he thought it was boring. Obviously, I was horrified. So my question is, have you ever had anyone tell you they were playing a game so wrong that you simply couldn’t handle it?

Hello Minnmaxers, The biggest news of E3 this week for me was the launch of NextLander with Vinny, Alex, and Brad formerly of Giant Bomb. Without reading the pitch I automatically became a patron. In the spirit of E3, what was the last time you completely bought into something with barely no information provided, whether it be a game, show, movie, podcast, etc.? Thanks so much and looking forward to all your E3 coverage

Hey CLCs At the time of writing only three days remain in the school year. In the waning days I am showing the classic (and my favorite) film Back To The Future. Welp, when I thought I couldn’t be any more surprised by their naiveness of the past, I was proven wrong. Prior to starting the film, a boy asked if the film was released before or after the world discovered colors. At first I thought he was asking if the film was in black and white or color. But, upon further discussion it became apparent that he legitimately thought the real world was in black and white until colored tv shows/movies became a thing. We then had a 20 minute discussion on why old photos, movies, and TV shows were in black and white. By the end, he still didn’t believe me or any of his classmates. He was positive we were pulling an elaborate prank on him. So my question: What is something you believed for a long time, only to find out it wasn’t true? Best, Sean M.

So that Wonderlands announcement trailer with all the stars mentioned in the cast up front… Did that work for you? I’m sure other games have done this before, but I can’t remember anything with such a prominent focus. I can’t help but WONDER… if they could’ve saved significantly on budget, especially because in my opinion, I don’t think movie stars really sell video games. Unless that’s gonna be a thing now? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

While replaying the Mass Effect trilogy, it hit me that i'm surprised more games haven't attempted the 'planned trilogy' where events carry over. Maybe there's some I'm forgetting, but there should be more! Are there any existing franchises you would like to see a 'planned trilogy' a la Mass Effect ? Or is there a genre/theme you would like to spin the formula?

Shane C

Replaying Mass Effect has made me realize how often Liara says "by the Goddess." But...the Asari are a single-gender race. Why would gendered language like "Goddess" even exist for them? They wrote a lot of species-specific idioms for these games (including about half a dozen about the Krogan and their four testicles) so it's kind of surprising they never considered this. I know it's a nitpicky complaint but it really stood out to me for some reason.

Hey, MinnMax! What’s your favorite options menu in a game, and why does it stand out? For me, it’s gotta be Guitar Hero 3. It let you turn off the guitar, bass, drums, and/or vocal tracks. After beating the game the first time, those options made the music feel fresh again!

DarkFishDays

Hey all! Don’t you hate reliving those moments where you couldn't think of a comeback on the spot? Well, no more! Tell us a time when you had the perfect retort.

The Pattycake (Patrick H.)

So Sony isn't going to be at E3 just like they had said. Do you all think this will have a big impact on the event? What do you think Sony has planned for this summer? Non-gaming related, has anyone seen Bo Burnham's new special, "Inside"? I've watched it a couple times and now that the album is on Spotify I've got it on repeat. What are your all's thoughts on "Inside", and what are some of your favorite comedy specials from other comedians?

Jordan Blayney

Hey guys! You get the chance to host a reaction podcast for an E3 presentation with anyone besides the Minnmaxers, who do you choose to record with?

Hello people of the internet? What was the first game series you became truly OBSESSED with and why? Thanks all, I like COLORFUL SOCKS.

MyNameIsDan

What's the worst thing you've ever stepped in, and how did it happen?

Geoff Enright

Hello everyone, including my nemesis JeffM, whom I hope is doing well! What is a game you eventually must walk away from because it is too time consuming? Ex: I love minecraft since it was first released, made multiple worlds over the years, but I have to force myself to stop so I can play games with a conclusion like God of War 2018. All the best, Geoff aka Groffles

WinterMuteWins

I for one am loving the age of video game remakes and remasters. Playing Link’s awakening on switch has been magical. Takes me right to the backseat of my parent’s minivan heading to go camping, plugging away at my game boy with my friends. What has been your favorite nostalgic gaming experience recently? Also, I think video game remakes are much more justified than remakes of movies, do you guys agree?

Mark Garcia

Greetings Ben and the CLCs, I recently rediscovered the soundtrack to Sword and #Sworcery on Apple Music, and subsequently bought it from Iam8bit. I had started the game years ago, but bounced off of it and never returned. However, I found the soundtrack so compelling that I wound up starting the game back over a few weeks ago, and beat it last week. Has listening to a game’s soundtrack ever driven you to pick back up a previously abandoned game, or try a game that you hadn’t even been interested in until hearing the soundtrack?

Nick Reed

Yeah E3 is cool but I would like to submit Freddy Got Fingered as the Greatest Work of Art of All Time.

Jaketrix

Hey Ben and the MinnMax Kamehamehas, Is it time to retire "beat" from gaming? I recently beat Mass Effect. However, when I said that out loud... It didn't sit right with me. Almost like it sounded juvenile. I finished Mass Effect sounds so much better. This is something that doesn't REALLY bother me. It just came off as an interesting thought. What do you think? Thanks for everything you do and stay safe!

Fred Dinovo

Hey is Geoff just trying to ignore E3? He keeps including events announced as part of E3 as Summer Games Fest events without ever mentioning E3. It's a bold move, hope it pays off for him.

saibher (cyber)

Hey CLCs, Since "E3" Week is just getting started, I think we're gonna see a bunch of Indies that get forgotten in the future. What are some Indies that you remember seeing at a past E3 that you actually DO remember? Thanks y'all

Bob Buel

Hello Hansonites - Metal Slug Tactics (the game shown off here I'm most psyched about) sparked this question - what's your favorite pixel art from a game that is from a post-pixel post-16 bit game? Thanks!

Matthew Paxton

Hey MinnMax Crew, I'm not creative enough to craft a hypothetical scenario for this, so let's dive right in to the question. If you were forced to sit down and write a strategy guide/FAQ for any game purely from memory, what is the game you would feel the most comfortable doing? This includes, but not limited t: beating the game, hidden secrets, easter eggs, explanation of a game's mechanics to help struggling players? Hope you all have a good week, and remember to stop and breathe every once in a while during all of this E3 madness.

Tanner Hoisington

Ben did that Weezer performance at Summer Game Fest make you regret your words and deeds? Also what's the best musical performance at a gaming show in your opinion? Loved seeing Persona at the Game Awards

Doreen Ford

I love Final Fantasy 7 Remake but absolutely loathe the Venomantis boss. What are some of your least favorite enemies in your favorite games?

Edgar Vazquez

Hey CLCs, How do you change the way you play games around/for different people? Do you play games differently by yourself than when it's for a review or for streaming? What about playing it with your partner, does that change if they are just watching? I recently started playing RE8 with my mom because she enjoys horror movies and I try to play as close to a movie as possible.

Johnny Magrippis

Is Mass Effect 3 the Avengers: Endgame of video games? Will we ever get anything closer to it? Multiple story-driven IPs, remaining active in their own right, but also coming together in a story-driven all-star cast series, spanning over 10 years? There are a few companies that have enough studios within them to pull it off...

G-Max Thoeren

So I thought the Elden Ring trailer looked incredible - but I have previously tried Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 and 3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, and couldn't get more than a couple of hours into any given one of them. At what point do I have to accept my fate as one of those scrubs who just can't play the SoulsBorne series? Are there any games/series you guys have gotten into after bouncing off of many times before?

Brian Ventura

Hey MinnMax, This E3, do you expect any hype around the next gen consoles themselves? If not, I think these consoles will have the least energetic launch of any generation (regarding marketing) For me, I think the ceiling is either the marketing around the power of the PS3, or how Kinect would revolutionize games.

Luke Strain

Howdy Cohorts! I recently started playing Prey on Game Pass, and I don't understand how this game didn't blow up. It's like BioShock but better! What are some games that never took off like you thought they deserved to?

Victor Pham

What are your favorite gaming memories with your siblings? Mine was playing through the entirety of Tales of Symphonia in four player co op with my siblings back when we were kids, which we would definitely not be able to do as adults.

MickManga

Well if we are doing e3 wish list/predictions 1. Fuga Melodies Of Steel (my goodness I have been eagerly anticipating it for years now.) 2. A new Donkey Kong platformer or a new Pikmin game 3. A continuation of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order 4. Rune Factory 5 (please announce a release date) 5. Nintendo's next console (sorry people the switch is 4 years old and Nintendo sticks to a pretty standard 5 year cycle, switch pro ain't happening. ) 6 . Breath Of The Wild 2 hype 7. Horizon Forbidden West release date (my guess is 2/22/22) 8. Pokemon!!!

Kezia Darling

I would love to hear the CLC's thoughts on the Day of the Devs stream. I was surprised there was no reaction stream!
