I absolutely loved watching the party hitchhiking their way to Kalm with that beautiful new rendition of the Kalm theme playing in the background. It was such a nice surprise to see all those characters together again as well as whatever the heck is going on with Zack. I’m dreaming of a Zack & Roche team up subplot in the next game, they probably both know each other already since they’re both SOLDIERs. Seeing the walls of Kalm finally gave us our first real look at the world of the remake outside of Midgar and I could not be more excited for what Part 2 has in store for us. Side note: It seems like Hanson’s prediction that Part 2 is going to begin with a cold open straight into Cloud’s backstory might actually happen since they’ve now shown the party leaving Midgar and reaching Kalm.

Yuffie’s line during the Happy Turtle side mission, “My turtle senses are tingling” definitely gave me some ‘Spider cop’ vibes from Insomniac’s Spider Man, but just like that game she somehow makes it works. So far I’ve found her character surprisingly charming and I prefer her cheesy one liners to Cloud’s sullen and blasé utterances and responses from the main game. Also, if you try to enter Seventh Heaven the Whispers will bar you entry to which Yuffie responds, “He works in mysterious ways”. Does this imply God exists in the FF7 universe?

OmegaBuster

I really like the new sub story / plot they are developing around Wutai and Avalanche. In the INTERMISSION DLC, we get some new bits like what is up with Yuffie’s dad, and Yuffie clearly having a poor history / mis-trust dealing with Avalanche. The world of FF7 Remake has so many background politics; I can’t wait to see them explore this in future DLC and part 2.

Fred Dinovo

When you first enter Sector 7 in the crowd around the TV there is a lady who says "I can't help but wonder how big avalanche actually is". I think we all share that sentiment. Given the main game I thought Wutai was the main force of Avalanche, but playing through this it seems they are just one of the sects behind the scenes as the other members that you meet up with aren't from Wutai they want to improve Midgar   Do you think they continue to dive more into Avalanche in the sequels?

Kevin Padilla

As someone who has not played original FF7 this whole chapter fell flat. I don’t like Yuffie from this short intermission as she is a bit annoying. What should this have meant to those of us need to this story?

Danielle3487

"They must be ninjas...teenage ninjas". Is it me or just a coincidence that "teenage ninja" was used to describe yuffie by Charlotte. Then Sonon described her as a "mutant". Oh and there's that turtle quest. With that said I think its safe to assume that the teenage mutant ninja turtles will be playable in part 2. Thank you for your time.

Cameron Wardlaw

Oooof, that whole scene in chapter 1 with Corneo’s pervert goons was SO uncomfortable. That guy licking his lips every 10 seconds while talking to Yuffie and Nayo made me want to punch him! In the face! Hard!!

Roberto Zayas

So what's the deal with Yuffie's unbuttoned pants? Seems very un-ninja to me.

Eric Merrill

I have just a few quick hitters: -Why didn’t we play Fort Condor against the Moogle girl from the school? - I started my second play through on Hard mode and changed to Japanese, and all of the Happy Turtle songs have an English and Japanese version - Lastly, GONNA GET BLIND DRUNK AT THE HAPPY TURTLE 🐢

I just have to say, I really dig how VII remake pays respects to other FF games. I first noticed this last year when Hell House uses a move called Heavensward. The turning moment for me though was realizing that Yuffie plays like a ninja in FFXIV. Using ranged jutsus in between the physical moves, and the symbols for the jutsus are the same as in XIV! Ninja consistency hype, and a nice nod for XIV fans.

Troy Ellison

I did not expect to love Fort Condor as much as I did as a mini game. The rock paper scissors style strategy made it easy to pick up but challenging when facing certain opponents (I never want to think about "Grandmaster Chadley" again). My strategy by the end focused on overwhelming the opponent with how many troops I can place using the barracks, pushing as far as I could on the borderline, and saving once every couple troop cycles for the almighty helicopter unit. I hope to see this game return in future remake installments, or as it's own spin off a-la Gwent. Also music-wise, the Descent of Shinobi battle theme remix, all the happy turtle theme remixes, and the FFXV-esque road trip guitar mix of Ahead on Our Way during the ending were *chef's kiss*

Humza R

I enjoyed how playful Square was getting with the cutscenes, like Yuffie's flourish before the Gigantipede boss and the cuts to NPC's eating da-chao beans. I am looking forward to the next game or DLC having similar lighthearted moments. Question for the MinnMax crew: how did you build Yuffie and Sonon? Did you care about building for physical or magic attacks or did you just pick the coolest looking weapon and put your best materia into it?

Interrotta

The cat from FF7R and Yuffie have almost the same reaction to the plate falling. They both fall on their knees as it falls.

Richie Carrasco

Yuffie throwing herself on the blue checkpoint chairs, like they were nothing but the comfiest couches, distressed me. I know she is supposed to be bouncy and adorable, but I’m pretty sure every bone in her ass is broken from slamming herself down on those wood and metal benches. The lesson this dlc taught me: Don’t skip leg day.

Starkiller

Yuffie did her quick little punches animation that she did all the time in the original. Made me very happy. 10/10 I really appreciate the expansion upon Yuffie as a character. Having her interact with the citizens of Midgar and see the plate fall really make her joining the main party later feel more justified.

SilentConsonant

Did this DLC Successfully make you like Yuffie? lol Actual Question: We see Zack return to the church in Sector 5 and he's greeted by refugees from the Sector 7 plate collapse (we assume). There's barely any evidence, but do you think Zack has returned to the original games timeline where (Spoilers for the OG FFVII) Aerith will now be the one who dies. Aerith and Zack are ships passing in the night. Star Crossed Lovers.

Funky Duck

The DLC feels so much better to move around in, especially the climbing and blue arrow elements. Do you have any hope that the movement will carry over to part 2, or will it be character specific? In the main game, climbing the church ceiling and swinging from lights in Shinra HQ were pretty bad, but climbing and running on the security grates in intermission is a noticeable improvement.

Funky Duck

Also- ROCHE ROCHE ROCHE ROCHE!!!

Preetham Yarlagadda

Do you guys think you could eat a Da-chao nut? Why are they so hard? Are Wutaian's teeth extra hard or are Midgar's people little babies?

Stephan K

Why was fort krondor fun? I got into it for the reward, but just went through the whole quest immediately. I didn’t anticipate that.

Conor

My biggest question is ‘When are Yuffie and Zack?' Weiss gets scanned in her DLC and he ends up in the battle sim in chapter 17 of the main Intergrade game, which is before the gang goes through the portal. I noticed if you start up the Intergrade main game, the intro music is now different than the PS4 version. Coincidence?? What timeline shenanigans do you think square is up to with Yuffie’s DLC? Is Zack really in the same timeline or is square messing with us?

Samuel

I really enjoyed having Sonon in the party I just wished we could play as him for a bit. Do you think we will see Sonon in future games even though he was pretty badly wounded or dead? Also Nero was one creepy guy right?

Scott Mills

Yuffie is very impressive in how skilled and quickly she learns, but this makes her very arrogant. She learned Fort Condor in a day and really talks trash with all the Sector 7 players knowing she will win before the matches even start. Then fighting Scarlet facing impossible odds and she brushes it off as no problem. But then they fight Nero and Sonon dies. We didn't get to see much of Yuffie after that, but I will be interested to see if she has the same arrogant confidence going forward in the series. Also I hope Yuffie improves her stealth skills. That was a big fail when she stepped on the mouse starting the fight with a big creature.

derek m

Becoming the double grandmaster in fort condor is an accomplishment I am truly proud of, but damn was hard mode chadley's board the most insane thing I had to deal with in this game

Adam Hayes

I used both characters’ starting weapons for the entire DLC. They just seemed the most useful, and I never felt the need to change it up. Did you all stick with the starters or prefer one of the alternate weapons?

Breadward

Never played the original and really loved the remake first and foremost for the combat feel and systems — so much fun! Yuffie is easily the best playing character so far for me. They equip her with so many tools. She can close large distances on enemies quickly for melee or just attack from afar with ranged and can combo between the two, and the ability to add elemental effects to her weapon was quite powerful. How did you find how she played in combat encounters and if she is part of the party in future games do you think they change how she plays significantly since she had to be able to do a lot in this DLC as the only playable character? Maybe a little OP as part of a party and they nerf her damage since she is so versatile?

Kevin Robinson

Can we talk about how amazing the music in The Runaround sequence is (the whole second half of chapter 1 where you are chasing Zhijie)? That Cowboy Bebop inspired jazz track is probably my new favorite piece of Final Fantasy music.

Breadward

I just want to shout out the Happy Turtle Jingle that played out of the controller speakers whenever you find one of the posters. It was that perfect dopamine hit for me that made me really want to find each of them instead of doing it just to see everything in the game.

IanTClark

It was so great to get back to the pre-plate drop sector 7 slums. I visited all the old spots and made sure to say hi to Ben, the Junk Dealer. It was very smart for them to have you play through this area of the game again. This made watching the destruction of the plate drop even more devastating.

claudio

That Happy Turtle music scared the shit out of me the first time it came out of the controller. Also, kinda bummed that one of the boss fights is locked behind hard mode. I wanted to do the fight but I kinda suck at the game and hard mode seems stressful. GREAT BOSS MUSIC HOLY MOLY

Rigglz

Hello Roche's Red Riders, As probably the only person who paid for the extra Cacstar weapon DLC, I really enjoy the unique ability you learn from it. "Cacstar Caper" has Yuffie's weapon running around the battlefield like a Cactaur hitting enemies. The weapon itself has a build focused on luck as well if you are into that thing.  (I am also the guy who bought 10 Butterfingers to get the exclusive DLC for the original game last year. Laughed at myself for doing so when you just get it for free on the PS5. The preorder summons are also free.) ALSO I love Ninjutsu! I never have to worry about elemental materia switching!

Chris Martin

I absolutely loved how they incorporated Yuffie's theme from the original game into the battle music. It was such a good track and really showed how much effort was put into the additional music for the DLC.

Zach Gileau

I loved everything about this DLC. But what impressed me the most has to be the soundtrack. Not only did they re-imagine some of the classics (mainly Yuffie's theme) but made room for a myriad of new genres and styles. I loved the eclectic mix of jazz, pop, metal, and electronic music. But the standout has to be the Happy Turtle music in general. I loved all of the different takes on the song, particularly the nu-metal version It's so goofy and fun in a way that embodies the original game. Loved hearing "GONNA GET FULLY WRECKED AT THE HAPPY TURTLE" on the metal version of the song.

Tanner Hoisington

Loved this DLC. Three short points (pick what you will) 1) If you try to follow Avalanche into 7th Heaven invisible Whispers push you back from entering. This is their only appearance and Yuffie can't see them. 2) To me this DLC only reinforces whoever this team is at Square, they get FFVII and Remake wasn't a fluke. Agree? 3) Did you feel uncompelled to spend time minmaxing gear/materia for a short DLC? Surely it doesn't transfer?

Conor

As an OG fan who avoided Dirge and largely doesn't know anything in it, the vocal apprehension of the community towards it put this DLC in a really weird place considering how high feelings were towards Remake part 1. It seems like they did well and kept the weird stuff minimal and limited to Weiss and Nero, and that's it, but I came out thinking that if anything, the weird "Dirge aesthetic" of the characters and that dark purple energy actually set up a certain future character who can inexplicably teleport in the AC movie really well

Clemens Zobel

My favorite Happy Turtle remix was the oldie one playing outside Cloud's apartment. Best Fort Condor piece was the guard dog. Used that to push the front line against Chadley and spam low cost units next to his towers, completely ignoring defense. I got so sick of his smack talk!

Joshua Caleb

This DLC has made me even more curious what they plan on doing with Dirge going forward. Cause Dirge of Cerberus takes place AFTER the events of FF7, but now we got Weiss and Nero yucking it up with Yuffie before she even meets up with Cloud and co. Do you think they are gonna incorporate more Dirge characters of plotlines into Remake, or was this just a one-off bit of fan service for those die-hard Dirge fans?(there has to be....tens of them, right?)

Kraid Belmont

Yuffie not ever being one of my favorite characters in the final fantasy franchise, i was a little concerned about her being the focus here. I have every class in Final Fantasy XIV maxed out ( yes I'm bragging, please come play) and the Ninja is my favorite melee class. Seeing Yuffie using Ninjutsu in similar ways actually made me care about her more.

Brian Paradis

Still super early, but I am really liking Fort Condor. I think it is amazing that they built in this great, simple MOBA in the middle of the DLC. I haven't played the original FF7 since it released on PS1, so I have no memory of the original minigame. Either way, I got hooked right away.

Andrew vala

Fans of the original FF7 will recall the bloody trail Sephiroth left Cloud and the gang to follow up to President Shinra’s body. That scene perfectly set the mood for confronting Sephiroth for the rest of the game and left a lasting impression on me. Part 1 kind of hinted at it with the purple/blue goo leading up to the President’s office [I’m color blind, I think it’s one of those colors?], but it did not feel as unsettling. However, Yuffie and Sonon’s walk from the prototype VR Simulator to the final boss fight totally captured that same feeling of horror and dread for me. (Here is a vid of the sequence- not my capture: https://youtu.be/e3kr4TVHuQ0?t=12774). PS: We’re totally seeing a brainwashed Sonon return as a boss fight right?

Bob Lienemann

A friend played in Japanese, and we found some interesting differences with the Happy Turtle. In English, it feels more like a bar, where in Japanese it’s implied to have more ‘adult’ themes. ‘Old Snapper’ is definitely a localized name since snapping turtles are native the the Americas. Lastly, the words Yuffie misunderstands in Japanese tend to be borrowed from English. (FYI, last name rhymes with cinnamon)

Dennis M.

- Just like in the original (ship to Junon and the airship) Yuffie gets motion sick. In general they totally nailed and expanded her character. - Have you guys experimented with the Photo Mode at all? I took a lot of screenshots, but the Photo Mode is not the best, especially compared to Ratchet and Clank. The camera movement is way too restricted and it doesn't change from Perfomance to Fidelity Mode when entering Photo Mode, like R&C does. - ROCHE! ROCHE! ROCHE! Dennis M. (two Ns!)

Yarrow

The dichotomy between Yuffie and Sonon was the biggest stand out in this entire game. I got a similar feel to the relationship between Cloud and Aerith, but this time as the goofy one. The way their relationship grows so quickly over these two chapters in incredible. Early on in Ch. 2 they reach a ladder after defeating Scarlet's bots, and Yuffie says, "How do you feel about giving me a boost?" to which Sonon replies in an unenthused tone, "Ecstatic". To see them become closer through Sonon comparing Yuffie to his sister, leading to him giving his life for as recompense was heartbreaking and so well done!

After watching the cutscene of the crew making their way to Kalm (which was a pleasant surprise), I’m starting to get the impression that there isn’t going to be any over-world traveling and that each installment will start or end with the party getting to their next destination via cutscene. What do you think if that turns out to be the case? It would help with development time.

Joe Dean

Hey CLCs, First off: ROCHE ROCHE ROCHE ROCHE! Now that that's out of the way, it took me some time to relearn the controls and then even after that figure out how best to use Yuffie (throw her weapon and then do long range magic attacks) but once I started to get the hang of it I really enjoyed Intermission. Until in chapter 2 when I came across that dang box busting training course. I must've done the Soldier training level for almost an hour until I got the perfect score. It made me really mad that Yuffie couldn't just step onto those elevated platforms to attack those 1500 boxes. Did this cause any frustration for any of you, was it easy for you, or did you just walk away because you had more important things to do. Keep up the good work, Joe Dean

RiskyChrisP

I have two friends staying with me right now, and they happened to be watching for the second chapter of this dlc. They both barely play games, they and know nothing about final fantasy, but they called the final cutscenes “art” and said even though they didn’t have a clue what was going on, they were invested. It was really cool getting such a positive response from a perspective that’s so different from what I’m used to, and I think it speaks to how well done the game is.

Armando Gomez

Roche! Roche! Roche! I really enjoyed how ff7 remake build upon the combat system ff15 had going. This DLC also uses more of ff15 CS by introducing synergyzing (which is OP!) specifically the combining of abilities. what did yall think about this addition to the combat system and also how it will impact the next part/parts?

FadedMFC

Roche! Roche! Roche! Absolutely loved the dlc and can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. Do you think we will get dlc between each episode of the Remake? Maybe a Cid or Vincent one next?

Daniel Miller

This DLC was fantastic, I adore Yuffie's fighting style - it's unique but familiar enough to hit the ground running! Do you think we'll see another character-centric DLC whilst they work on Remake Pt. 2, or do you think they'll go straight into the sequel? Where would you like to see the next instalment kick off?
