What’s your favourite thing to do on a lazy Sunday ?

Matt McKenna

Heya Minnpack, I recently started playing the new Dark Alliance game and it’s nothing to write home about but it’s scratching that PS2/Xbox era of action RPGs I didn’t realize I was missing. Has there been a game recently that you knew wasn’t exactly GOTY material but you fell for anyway?

John Ford

Game! Xbox tells you the rarity of achievements as a % of players, and also has easy achievements just for making progress in a game. So using that, we can tell, of Xbox players who started a game, what % finished different parts of games. So, for the following games, guess the % of Xbox players who ever followed up to play its DLCs/expansions: (Pick whichever ones would be fun/interesting, closest guess wins) Assassin's Creed Valhalla: - Wrath of the Druids: 4% The Outer Worlds: - Peril on Gorgon: 1.4% - Murder on Eridanos: 0.7% Skyrim: - Dragonborn (Solstheim): 22% - Hearthfire (House/Kid): 14.7% - Dawnguard (Vampires): 17% Fallout 4: - Far Harbor: 7.8% Metro Exodus: - Two Colonels: 3.2% Control: - AWE (the Alan Wake one): 2.5% Mass Effect 2 (original): - Arrival: 12.5% Mass Effect LE: - Started Mass Effect 2: 71% - Started Mass Effect 3: 41% Any of these % disappointing or surprising?

Hey CLCs, I recently bought a gaming PC (my first one!) I have been a console player my whole life, (currently have a Switch and PS5). Since getting the PC, I have found it hard to play single player games/modes on there. Sitting in a chair with a mouse and keyboard when not playing with friends doesn't captivate me as much. Are there any single player games that I should try on PC (exclusive or not) that might grab my attention more and get me to sit at the desk to play it. Love all the work you do! Nick S.

Hey y'all, The discussion this week about the greatest GBA games reminded me of one of my favorites, which I hadn't thought about in a long time- 2001's Spyro: Season of Ice. That game was great! It did a great job translating the feel of the PS1 games into a weird little isometric GBA game. The thing is. I've never heard ANYONE talk about this game, and there's a good chance I've played more of it than 99% of GBA owners. Back when I was a kid it mattered less what games were popular or what everyone else was playing, you learned to love the weirdo games you had. So my question is: What is your favorite game that you've never heard anyone else talk about, or that you're pretty confident you like more than almost anyone?

Kezia Darling

I’ve noticed lately that Ben has been more loose with the f-bombs; I’m into it! Why the change in philosophy? Was it Leo’s, “You Only Say Fuck Once”? Love y’all! Kezia Neal

Ryan Jones

Does anyone remember the Golden Sun games? The sequel was my favorite GBA game and recently I looked it up again to see if it was actually good or if I was just obsessed. I was excited to see that I hadn’t imagined how awesome that game was but had played it in a vacuum without any knowledge as to whether it was a “good game.” So my question: is there a game you recall from your childhood/past that you loved (or disliked) that you similarly played in vacuum only to learn later via the internet how it was actually received? What game? Did it change your perception of your experience with that game?

Andrew King

Hi Ben and Cohorts, So I've been watching a lot of the Criterion Channel lately and it has quickly become my favorite streaming service. If you don't know much about it, it's basically a hyper curated selection of artistically noteworthy and/or historically significant films. The curators put together themed playlists (I've been enjoying the "Afrofuturism" collection) with feature length movies, short films and introductory videos where film critics talk about the work of the director, actor or movement the collection is about. The service has an "Adventures in Moviegoing" series where filmmakers like the Safdie Brothers curate a collection of movies, then introduce each via a conversation with a critic. Some movies, like Rashomon and Days of Heaven, also have commentaries. Basically, it's a collection of great movies, arranged in a way that encourages thoughtful engagement with the broader context that produced them. My question is: we often talk about Xbox Game Pass as the Netflix of games. But, what would you want from the Criterion Channel of games?

Gavin DeCroce

Hey CLC’s! What are some games, if any, that you tend to impulse buy? I always get the Mortal Kombat games on an impulse and then remember “oh yeah, I stink at fighting games!”

AnAttackCorgi

Hello Ben, Big Ben, Small Ben, and Other Ben, A producer is making a biopic about you, but they've decided to use videogame characters to represent people from your life. Which video game characters would represent your parents in your biopic's videogame adaptation? Also, on the topic of the greatest Game Boy characters of all time, what was your favourite travel game of all time? I remember playing a lot of Pokemon Silver and Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II

Bryan Tylec

Back when it first came out, FF7 was singlehandedly responsible for getting me back into video games after a long hiatus. So, of course, I was very excited to dive into FF8 as soon as it came out. But, for some reason, I thought the main character looked exactly like Corey Feldman and whenever he had dialogue, I heard it in Corey Feldman’s whiny Corey Feldman voice. It made me so irritated by everything he did or said that I finally quit about halfway through and have never gone back to it. So my question for you is, what is the dumbest reason you’ve ever had for disliking a video game? P.S. The worst part about all this is that I don’t even hate Corey Feldman.!

Zach Killian

Hello Minnmax! SInce ya'll are talking about Game Boy Advance games, it made me wonder do you think Nintendo will make another handheld console or will it just be the Switch? If Nintendo did announce a new handheld console, what would you want from it?

Tyler Sticka

Hello, Ben and friends! Some games work well with almost any ol' controller, making them easy to re-release, port or (gasp!) emulate. Others are designed with specific consoles or controllers in mind to deliver a unique experience... motion controls, stereoscopic 3D, unique peripherals, HD rumble, adaptive triggers, etc. If you *had* to choose one or the other, would you prefer all future games be finely tuned to specific hardware, or to standardize so they'd work on virtually any platform (now or in the future)?

whitemex

Hey there Benjamin and 'Horts!! As an amateur GB modder, i think its really cool to see the GBA get some love from y'all. I want to talk about the Analogue Pocket. what do you think is driving the enthusiasm for the for it? is it nostalgia? is it the scarcity of Analogues products? or is it scalpers and FOMO?

Interrotta

Hello Ben, Janet, Leo, and Suriel. Are any of you picky eaters? I absolutely cannot stand pickles, if they’re accidentally put on a burger, I won’t eat the burger. Is there anything like that for you guys?

umryan

What are some conspiracy theories or urban legends that you think carry some water? I tend to dismiss all outright, but one I've picked up on that I find interesting, is that the Eminem seen today is not the original person, and the present one is a hired imposter (which is to also say he is not the real slim shady)

Tim Lorow

What's your feelings on having authentic voicing in games set in different countries. Do you prefer the original language with subtitles (Yakuza Kiwami) , accented English (AC Odyssey), or straight up American English (Hitman)? There's only one wrong answer...

Ben Shively

What is the board game that took you the longest to fully grasp how to play? For me, it was Nemesis by far. Nemesis is a semi-coop Aliens-inspired survival game that has several complex expansions as well. I had to watch hours of YouTube tutorials and read the 28 page rule book several times. Each game usually lasts around 2-3 hours and it quickly became my favorite board game of all time.

Sean Mason

Hey CLC, Two weeks into my summer vacation from teaching and I am enjoying myself immensely. I’m catching up on my gaming, reading, and TV backlog. Not once have I felt bored. With that said, on Saturday while waiting to get my haircut, I received four text messages from colleagues talking about how bored they already are. This baffled me. In the year 2021, with the number of entertainment options available how can anyone be bored? Heck, even if you don’t like to game, read, or watch TV/movies, there is an abundance of other activities to do. So my question: Do you find it weird when people say they are bored? Best, Sean M.

Styster

Hey CLC's! Simple question, but what is a game you went in thinking you would hate, but ended up loving? Either it didn't look like the type of game you would like, or being turned off to it from reviews.

Joshua Novalis

Hey Ben & Co(horts), On the show, you often talk about "podcast games," (i.e. games that are perfect to play while listening to podcasts). 2 questions: 1. What are your all-time favorite podcast games? 2. What makes a podcast game "a podcast game"? For me, I've found that it's not always about the game being "less worthy" of my full attention or focus. It's more about finding games that are light on story, unreliant on music or audio cues, and allow you to enter a sort of "flow state" while playing. Curious to hear your thoughts.

PoorAndCurly

Hi Minnie Maxies! Do you think the increased power and accessibility of modern handhelds like the Switch and Vita take away some of the novelty and charm that previous handhelds had before? Handhelds like the Game Boy Color and Advance had great games that had to run on the limited processing power, and had less options for controls. I believe this differentiated the games you could get for them compared to the games you would have on GameCube, which led to some unique games, like Advanced Wars and Link's Awakening. When I look at the Vita's library, there are a lot of series that just took what we knew on PS3 and made them handheld, like Killzone Mercenary and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. What do you think?

Forrest With Two Rs

At what point do you think Smash character reveals start to have diminishing returns for the inevitable sequel? Are they putting themselves in a difficult place with making sure all of those characters/themes/settings etc. can be used again?

Fred Dinovo

Howdy crew, How many different GBAs did you own? Colors and type. Did anyone pick up the Micro? I never pulled the trigger and regret it. I went from the translucent Glacier original model until I upgraded to the Red SP.

Stephen Woodson

Hi folks, I'm currently replaying Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, and it's still delightful. The only tiny knock I have against it is the frame rate can occasionally chug when the screen gets crowded. But that does have a bit of a charm to it. So question: does the crew ever enjoy when the frame rate drops in old games? Do rare frame rate drops elevate an intense situation, or are they always frustrating? Thanks for the show! -Stephen

Mitch

Hello Ben and crew, Is it a strange feeling knowing you have a following and fans, but are otherwise normal people who aren’t rich and famous in the traditional celebrity mold? Follow up, have you ever been recognized in public? If so, how often and how have those interactions went?

Nick Duncan

Hi Ben, Janet, Suriel and Leo! If you had to review your life so far as if it were a game, how would you review it?

Fenrir

Hello Ben and the Cohorticulturalists, We're now just about half-way through the year and my question to y'all is: what are your 2021 Top 10 GOTY lists currently looking like? Does yours feel pretty set or are there some releases coming in the back-half of the year or backlog titles that will make your top 10? Sincerely, Fenrir

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and the Crew, what game have you slept on after it's release but really enjoyed when you finally got to it? Watch Dogs Legion looked alright and I played about 3 hours on it's release, but now getting back to it I'm loving it.

Clemens Zobel

Some of my picks for best GBA games would be Mega Man Battle Network, Golden Sun, and Mario & Luigi. Never played the third Golden Sun game, but would like to see the series return on Switch.

Stephen Suminguit

Hey Crew, How are you enjoying Scarlet Nexus? It's got that anime feel in some of the right places such as the exaggerated "brain crush" death blow to enemies that made me feel a touch overpowered, but feels great to pull off. Then again, it has some English localisation oversights like their big cool overpowered badass is called Major General Karen. These days, you do not wanna be a "Karen" :)

Eric Merrill

Karill “The Thrill” Kaprizov just won rookie of the year for the Minnesota Wild. Do you know who he is and does he draw interest in the area? Signed, Please like my sport guy

Keenan Horrell

Hey everyone, Recently there has been a huge movement in the MMO space with many of WOW's top content creators and their audiences shifting over to FFXIV. WOW is at an all time low with a content drought that has lasted 7 months, while FFXIV is riding at an all time high with their hugely successful Showdowbringers expansion and Endwalker on the way. I find this incredibly interesting. There has been a 15 year conversation on what game would be the WOW killer, and that game might be a failed MMO that had to be rebooted from the ground up. I know not many on the MinnMax crew have an interest in MMOs but I felt like you should know about this major shift in the industry. As for a question, what are some MMOs that the crew has played and what did you like or dislike about them?

Fatt Mish

Hi MinnMax Crew Would you rather work eight hour days a day, five days a week, making $16 an hour as a Hammer Bro in Super Mario Bros or a ten hour day, four days a week, making $18 an hour as a Keese in Legend of Zelda?

Gabriel Cleveland

Hey, y'all, I hope it's not too much to ask, but I managed to make something that feels like it has a life of its own in the stage creator for smash ultimate and I would absolutely love if the smash fans on staff would try it out. Once you flip the switch, the stage becomes the pinnacle of stupid fun. It would mean so much to me to hear that y'all tried it and got a laugh or two out of it. Stage Name: National Sword ID: HT7SH1DJ

Solo

If you were an NPC in a Nintendo game, what would you say? You may also say something for a Playstation and Microsoft game. I chose Nintendo because it is usually more family-friendly and amusing.

TheName'sPug

Hey everyone, I teach English at a university, and part of the job is conducting research for publications. Have any of you thought about video games influencing academia or vice versa? Ian Bogost is a big name in video game theory and studies. Are any of you familiar with his work? Thanks for all the hard work and great entertainment!

Adam Cohen

Hey MinnMax crew, I recently started playing Super Mario 3D World/Bowser's Fury, and it got me wondering... Is Bowser just a guy with a substance abuse problem? His friends try to keep him clean with activities like go-karting, tennis, and board games, but every now and then he goes on a bender and kidnaps Peach and sets up a murder course for Mario and Luigi.

Kyle Silva

Hey everyone, I just signed up to patreon yesterday. After watching so much content and seeing the interactions you all have with your community whether it be on discord, youtube comments, twitter or twitch, do you ever worry about the parasocial relationships which can form? I ask this after watching a super insightful video about the rise and fall of the McElroys brand. Are there things you do to minimise it? Are you conscious of it? Has it's impact changed the way you engage with your audience and what you choose to share? Bryce from down under (pronounced as down unda)

Hey Ben and the Computer Loving Jets, I was wondering, do you ever stop playing a game you're really enjoying because you're getting close to the end and you don't want the game to be over? I've often stopped playing a game because I'm really far into it and don't want it to be over. In my mind, I'm 'saving it' so it's not just immediately over and I forget about it and move onto the next game; it's always there, in the back of my mind..... Or am I just crazy?

Jason Wojnar

I can often be a rather cold and cynical person, but Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is genuinely making me feel like a kid again. It's just so darn jolly and the cutscenes and dialogue make me feel like I am 5 years old again playing Spyro, Crash, or watching Looney Toons on Cartoon Network. Have any new games ever given you this feeling as an adult? Remakes and Remasters don't count (and it should be noted; I didn't play Ratchet and Clank in my childhood) Jason Wojnar, Kyiv, Ukraine

Austin smith

Is Cyberpunk the gaming equivalent of the last season of Game of Thrones? Insane levels of hype and was so disappointing that within a year no one cares and no one really talks about it. If not is there a better candidate?

Hootz

Hey guys. Do any of you have a working copy of Metroid fusion I could borrow? The battery in my GBA cartridge died so I can't save anything. Also, do you know what Kazuya's command inputs are? I can't seem to hack him in Smash. I could look it up, but I thought it would be more fun to ask you guys. Thanks for all the great content you've been putting out!

MyNameIsDan

Pretty crazy that the goty has already been decided. Alright everyone, let's give a round of applause to Chicory. Well done, much deserved!

PetrichorZ

With the namesake games Metroid and Castlevania not releasing new games for a long time, Metroidvanias have become a staple of the indie scene over the past decade. Games that are seen as some of the best on the genre come from indie devs, like Hollowknight, Ori, Axiom Verge and Dead Cells to name a few. Now with Metroid Dread being announced, do you think the fact that it is a full priced $60 game will hurt it's sales? I know Gamestop said it was the most preordered game of E3, but it was also one of the only new AAA games announced for this year not on gamepass. Also, do you think there is room for AAA developers to make "full" priced games in genres that we normally associate with $20-$30 indie titles? Do you think the resources and budgets of large studios allow them to make games that would be seen as having a higher value than the indies, or is it just the expectation for them to release a game at $60-$70 that keeps the prices the way they are? -Bryan

Erin T.

Hey cohorts! Let’s get to the tough, hard-hitting questions. What’s more important in a video game - toilets you can interact with or instruments you can interact with? Please explain your reasoning.

Hugo Aguilar

Hey Cohorts, I’ve tried multiple times to get into BOTW and I’m just barely seeing why people love it. I still find myself not liking a lot of it still, but I can see the light. Anyway it got me thinking why doesn’t anybody talk about RDR2 like they do about BOTW. RDR2 had so many wow moments by just exploring the vast open world. From the widowed lady up in the mountains to the cannibal family in the swap. This world is filled with so many amazing things to uncover and yet I never hear about it from anyone in games media. Why is that?

Jesse Joxstrap Brown Baldock

Jesse Brown-Baldock from south Australia S'goin on Cohorts. I was listening to the last episode of the minmaxx show. It was a nice treat to walk down memory lane whilst listening to your top GBA games. I was fully on board with warioware being some members number one game but then I realised something. You weren't talking about Warioware twisted!? This was my favourite game on GBA. I spent hours spinning my gameboy and collecting weird souvenirs. I just wanna know if this game was in anyone's collection. I feel as though I was super lucky to even experience this sort of tech on a handhold console back in that day and to this day the game surprises me with unique mini games and souvenir ideas. If this question gets read on the show I will backflip where ever I am listening to it. I will probably have to pull my car over but it will be done. Thanks guys love the content.
