Hey Ben and the Crew! You have a friend coming into town and they want to eat at your favorite local restaurant. Where are you taking them to eat? Thanks for the great Podcast! Jordan

Yo minnmaxers, The other day I was up on a ladder cleaning out my gutters and for a split second considered sliding down the ladder third person action adventure style. You know the move. My stupid question is when’s the last time any of you have performed any feasible, yet relatively extreme physical feats we take for granted in games. For example, running at a full sprint, climbing, jumping gaps, or sliding down ladders. Cheers!

Caleb

Hey guys! Love the show as always. Would you rather live in a world where every song exists but they are all sung by Pitbull, or where one Pitbull song exists but every artist in the world has a cover of it?!

Stephen Woodson

Not a question, but this post still has the old YouTube URL 🙂 I'm sure everyone here knows it, but show off your fancy new URL! Love the show, keep it up. -Stevo

Ahoy ahoy Your commentary on Lord of the Rings got me thinking. I own the extended versions of the trilogy on DVD, BluRay and recently UHD. With new formats and new generations of movie formats, we don't seem to expect free upgrades of the previous format we owned, yet Sony is labelled by the gaming community as anti-consumer because it is charging for new gen upgrades of last gen games (e.g. ghost, etc). Is it just a sign of the times that all any chance of negativity in gaming is latched onto and amplified through social media and even the media, or is gaming a special case to other entertainment. I don't remember the same outrage when I bought Wind Waker HD despite owning the previous version Yours, Sony Pony, etc.

Hey cohorts, after finishing Returnal I looked up Housemarque to check out what other games they’d made, and was surprised to find a game called Outland which I adored from the 360/PS3 era. Sort of a mashup of Metroidvania and bullet hell with the ability to change your characters color to render projectiles of that same color safe to touch. It ruled! Anyway, you guys recall any games that surprised you once you discovered who developed them?

RickyWinterborn

i recently witnessed a bummer discord meltdown, where two people argued intensely, hurled awful insults at each other, changed each others names over and over and ultimately we're both banned, all while 10 or so other people awkwardly watched. i couldn't help but think how differently it probably would've gone in real life, if they were face to face. should we be worried about this type of stuff as discord grows? Or am I just being a boomer?

What's your number 1 game for when you're going number 2?

Dale Gorecki

Recently I’ve been really getting into Oddworld Soulstorm after initially not liking it when it released. What are some games you’ve bounced off of and then come back to and really enjoyed?

Styster

What's a game that you mispronounced as a kid? How did you pronounce it?

Hello MinnMaxers! This may be a bit too hard hitting for the podcast but here goes. Japan being host to the Olympics has raised a lot of awareness to certain topics and one of them being: issues with xenophobia and racism. As someone who is a bit of an Anime weeb and a lifelong fan of Japanese culture/history I have always wanted to visit Japan. However I find it pretty messed up that there are literally places that have a "no Gaijin allowed" policy. I know some of you guys have been to Japan so what are your opinions here? Did you ever run into scenarios that made you feel unwelcome or do you think these issues are overblown? What were your experiences in Japan like and would you recommend a visit without hesitancy?

IanTClark

When I originally played the Wii release of Skyward Sword I was exclusively a Nintendo console gamer. I didn’t follow any major game media outlets or have any online communities to negatively influence my opinion of the game. As a result, I loved it! I don’t recall being annoyed at any the items that are commonly brought up by critics. How much influence do popular gaming outlets have on your personal opinion of a game?

Hey Cohorts, I am a teacher and I have always thought it would be fun to teach an elective class on the history of video games or something similar involving video games as a whole. My question for you is, if you could teach a class on video games, what would it be about or what would you want it to focus on?

Hello all, My friend and I played a ton of Road Rash 64 back in the day. I recently decided to see if there is something similar to that on a more modern system. I found Road Redemption, released in 2014, as it screamed spiritual successor. I scooped up the PS4 version and my friend and I played it on PS5 all night. Throughout the night, we noticed on one of the tips that appear on the screen after you die, it says "Having fun? Let developer Ian Fisch know (1-504-289-4683)" and near the end of our session, my friend decided to call the number. If anything, I expected a prerecorded message. The game is seven years old. But someone answered, and it was indeed developer Ian Fisch! He was excited to hear from us and immediately asked what platform we were playing on, gave us tips on which bike and rider to use, and which weapons/abilities to focus on. We talked for a few minutes before telling him to have a good night. I was blown away by this. Such a cool interaction. Have you ever heard of a developer doing anything like this before? P.S. I found a Steam post reply from him: RoadRedemptionDeveloper [developer] Dec 9, 2014 @ 5:27am Ha it's cool. If I didn't want my number in the game, I would have removed it by now. I actually haven't gotten as many calls as you might expect, and it's always interesting to get user feedback. I'll probably leave it in there forever. Worst case scenario: a few hundred calls when we launch out of early access.

What remasters have significantly changed the public reception of a game? The original Nier was widely panned on its original release with a 68 on Metacritic, but the recent remaster has a much better score of 83, and is generally looked upon much more fondly by the public.

Hey cohorts! I hope you are all doing well. I feel like it has almost become taboo for a person to find pride in their own accomplishments. My experience is that everyone deserves to brag on themselves occasionally. With this in mind, I want to provide each of you with the opportunity to share something from your life that you are proud of. You are all awesome, talented people who definitely deserve to show off your achievements! Thanks for all you do, Ryan

Hey Everyone, I've been having this reoccurring dream where I'm inside this giant sci-fi video game. While it's both extremely fun and terrifying, I'm always bummed out when I'm forced to wake up and stop playing. Do you guys get intense video game dreams from time to time?

Daniel Miller

Hi Ben and cohorts, thanks for giving us such great entertainment each week. I'm a new dad (my daughter just turned 1!) and early on I really struggled with the way a child completely obliterates your free time - my main relaxation was via Games, primarily tactical shooters like Valorant and Rainbow 6 Siege, but due to the risk of needing to leave midgame if the baby woke up, I moved to a much more single-player centric game library. What would you consider the hidden gems of the last few years on PS4/5 or Nintendo Switch that I could pick up when I finally wrap up Horizon: Zero Dawn?

MyNameIsDan

Could you all do your best "sheesh" (i.e. SHEEEEEEEEESH) and then come to a vote on who has the best "sheesh"?

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts, and a special hello to special guest Rebecca! What's the worse ad to sit through, something you already have, or something you don't have but will never want? I think the ad for something I already have is worse, especially if I'm online. If they're collecting all this data on me, they're not doing a very good job of figuring out what I own! Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

Hey cohorts! What's the best lawn-game to play on a hot summer day? Cornhole? Spikeball? Can-Jam? Badminton?

Well hello there Benny and the Jets! What is the most trivial gaming opinion, the smallest hill, you're willing to die on?

Hey gang! The gods have deemed you must live the rest of your life in a TV show. But they are just gods and allow you to pick the show. Which TV show universe do you choose to spend the rest of your life in?

Hey hi hello, Has a game ever made you cry? Or tear up? For any reason.

Hi Horts, What non video game podcast or topic are you knowledgeable enough of be a guest on?

FF14 is in the news lately for “selling out digitally” and putting people on a waiting list to play. Have you all taken the dive into FF14? I started playing with some friends and it had a GREAT single player story.

Hello, How about them motion controls? What is the perfect game for them…if any? When can I stop using them for Dreams and just use a mouse instead?

Doreen Ford

With the upcoming release of Skyward Sword HD and all of its various upgrades, what's y'alls favorite upgrade that came with a remaster of an old game?

Owen S

Hello people, Have any of you ever had a desire to be apart of game development? If so, what part of the team would you want to be apart of, even if you aren’t technically qualified?

Why do you think it's acceptable to platform Imran Khan, a cruel online bully who arbitrarily wishes suffering on others? He says that everyone living in a red state deserves to be unemployed -- not based on their politics, just based on their geographic position in the world. That is, if you have the exact same beliefs and values as Imran does, but happen to be outnumbered by your neighbors, you deserve to suffer -- I guess for not trying hard enough. Why does MinnMax think it's OK to promote someone who spreads this kind of violent, hateful rhetoric online, especially given gaming's massive problem with online cruelty? Is it OK because he's your friend? Or because you agree with him? Don't gaming outlets using "positivity" as a selling point, like MinnMax, have a responsibility to at least "do no harm" on the subject of gamer toxicity and online cruelty?

MickManga

Hope you all are having a good day. Here's my question. Is there a game you've always wanted to play but for whatever reason it has always been out of your reach? For mysel, I love on rail shooters and have always wanted to dive into the Panzer Dragoon series. I am very happy they re-released the first one the Switch. It was a fun time. Here's hoping I don't have to wait another 20 years for Panzer Dragoon 2 to get a re-release. P.S. I guess I got eat my hat. I predicted for E3 predictions there wouldn't ever be a Switch Pro. It felt like it was to late into the Switch's life cycle. And yet now there's the Oled.

Mason Cowell

Hello all! What is your favorite small bit of world building that nobody ever talks about? Mine is in bloodborne, where you get health back by attacking your enemies. But what I've never heard anybody mention is that you actually still get a little bit of health back even if you hit an enemy in the second or so AFTER they've technically died. To me this implies that your character is being rewarded for being especially vicious, going along with the theme that the hunters are not the heroes of that story. What about you all?

Beau Bakken

Good evening MinnMax. All this recent Chicory talk has reminded me of art in video games and specifically artsy moments that can't be replicated in any other medium. My favorite moment I will to try to share in a non-spoilery manner. Towards the end of Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons there's a beautiful emotional scene that is very much connected to the player hitting a specific "wrong" button on the controller. I think Ben knows what I'm talkin about.

Thom Blackburn

Hey hort-hort-horts! Company of Heroes 3: That teaser makes it look like urban warfare is going to be important and maybe capture some of the magic of the XCOM reboot... Do you have a wishlist for another dormant genre and how it could make a comeback? Thanks, and welcome to the show Rebecca Stone! Thom

Mason Parker

Hey Ben! We are flying back from Vegas and are talking about the next place to travel too! I'd love to come to a community meet up in Minnesota, are there plans to have one soon? Also what other fun things are there to do in the area, from locals like yourself, that we could do during our stay?

Ben Shively

When you start a game up for the first time, what’s the first setting you change? I immediately increase look sensitivity before anything else.

Jake Z

What does it mean for art to "say something"? Is it the same as "making a statement"? And what pieces of art specifically do this to you?

Devin B

As someone who's just now playing all of the Legend of Zelda games after not really paying any attention to them in the past, I have one question. What is going on with the timeline connecting each game? It's confusing and seems unnecessary to me.

PhillyYeetSteak

Howdy gamers, I have a bachelors party coming up, and we are putting together a game tournament with a bracket and everything. Got any good suggestions for some head to head games? They can be new or old, but looking for stuff people can pick up and play without having played it previously. Thanks and good luck at the mario party stream! Lets end some friendships!

Ronmar the Only

Good day Cohorts, on a recent episode Ben Hanson said how he was one of the few who played Telltale Game of Thrones. I’m here to let him know, I played through it all originally on the PS4 and just picked it up along with several other Telltale games (plus Cyberpunk for $10 each) for Xbox (cannot pick up many of those Telltale games digitally these days). Just played a bit of it and I still wish it got a season two to see where some of its original stories went in the shadow of the television series (Auto HDR looks nice but my OLED probably is more significant). My question for you, are there any specific games or games series that you think should be continued or remade / reimagined? I think something like Condemned could be the perfect genesis for a new entry.

Hey all- I have a game for you I like to call "Lettin' off Steam". I went to the official Steam discussion boards for various games in search of funny discussion titles, and have collected them below. Your job is simple: figure out what game these folks are talking about. 1. -"Where's my laser sight?" -"Legendary Armadillo" -"Need car recommendation" -"Keanu Reeves calls you up..." Answer: Cyberpunk2077 2. -"Can't find dead body" -"how can I have zero likes?" -"Am I also being a jerk?" -"As a hater of this walking simulator i have chosen to the buy the game for research purposes of course" Answer: Death Stranding 3. -"Children and sleeping time" -"IS IT POSSIBLE THAT YOUR SPOUSE CHEAT ON YOU" -"Wierd question about livestock not eating a patch of grass" -"Min-Max meta for spring?" Answer: Stardew Valley Bonus: "Headset optional" edition: -"Where are all the adults?" -"Where to find normal people?" -"How can I see jiggle physics?" -"Head on Avatar is backwards and I don't know why." -"What should a man do when he gets fullbody" Answer: VR Chat

Hi gang What's a game from your favorite genre that never really clicked with you?

Matthew Weatherley

G'day Minnmaxeroos I have a challenge for you... You have 30 seconds to come up with 5 entertaining ways the ir sensor on the joycon can be used. Thanks

Hey MinnMax squad, I was recently going on an internet deep dive and I was suprised to see a lot of my favorite content creators say the combat for Bloodborne is the worst part of the game. This shocked me as I always viewed the combat in fromsoft games to be one of the core pillars of their quality. And so I pose the question to you guys, what is "good combat". I understand this is a bit of a broad question but I would love to know how a combat system is defined as intuitive and fun to y'all. Thanks for making every Thursday a good one.

Jesse Joxstrap Brown Baldock

Hey Minnmax crew. What are some things in games that used to scare you even though they were never intended that way. My example would be the abandoned Jinjo village at the start of Banjo Tooie. The music and the atmosphere of that place used to freak me out when I was younger. My brother had a lot of fun with the game but I haven't picked up the game since. Any weird and similar experiences?

Parmetheus

Hey Ben, did that Simpsons episode, where you sat in on the table read, ever air? Did you watch it and was it as funny on TV?

MLA

Hey people, Bloodborne is a fantastic game. I get it, I love bloodborne. My question is does anyone think the outcry for a 60fps version of the game is a little over the top? Realistically who at this point is going to go back and play the game for more than a short while if the game were to get the update?

Alex K.

What was everyone's favorite non video game piece of media that they discovered during the pandemic? Books, TV, movie, art, anything that helped them get through the last year.

This weekend some friends and I were in Lviv at a singing competition. Afterward, we spent the day walking around the city. Another contestant who none of us knew just started walking with us and he was absolutely insufferable in several ways; talking super loud on a morning bus ridewhen several people are trying to sleep, changing the subject when we are all talking about a certain thing, etc. We ultimately ended up leaving him behind after he insisted on getting ice cream. While he was in the shop we quickly walked away and hid in an alleyway. Are we bad people? I feel bad about it but then I remember him asking me some really weird questions like how much money I made and things about my sex life? I don't think he'll ever see this because I am the only one in this story who speaks any English.

Garrett Becker

I have a PS5. The games I’ve put the most hours into are UFC 4, Mortal Kombat 11 and Avengers. Is that weird? Has anyone tried Avengers on next gen? I think it looks, runs and feels so much better than the last gen version.
