The Sideline Crowd

I saw a newspaper article from my alma mater where the writer claims that consoles like the Wii and PS3 are now retro consoles and could eventually become collector's items worth a hefty price. What are your thoughts on this idea? Additionally, when does a console gain "retro" status in your eyes?

Greg Lovell

Hello Ben and the gang! Have you played the Olympics mini game inside the Google homepage? It's surprisingly great! A little bit of top down JRPG, some rhythm games, old school sports (obviously). Have you tried it and what do you think? I have to say, it's better than the jumping dinosaur thing. Thanks, Greg

wittynicknamehere .

Has anyone been trying discs in both consoles lately, to make sure games don't just work on both Sony's and Microsoft's machines and it's just a different color on the box? After that time someone "accidentally" flipped a switch and enabled full crossplay between the consoles, we must remain vigilant!

Tactical Dreamer

Will there be any lasting results from all the terrible things we've learned about Blizzard? From Blizzard's previous transgressions in the whole Hearthstone tournament "Free Hong Kong" debacle to Ubisoft's own terrible work environment, it seems like gamers are too quick to forgive and forget.

Dustin L

It's time to play: Rapid Fire of Sorts...with the Cohorts! ...And Dan. For the following words/phrases/acronyms, say the first thing that comes to your mind. For example, if Ben says Rainbow - Leo would probably shout "Rainbow Six Siege!" Everyone got it? Let's goooo! -Favorite box art -Cheese -G.O.W. -Fighting game -Paul Rudd -Call of Duty -Lance -Graphics or Gameplay -BBQ Side Dish -Vita -Minnesota -Mobile Gaming -MMO -Podcast Game

Jordan Blayney

What are your guy's thoughts on the news that Netflix is developing a live action Pokemon show? I am optimistic as I really enjoyed Detective Pikachu. My hope is that they don't focus on Ash and instead try to tell a new story! Thank you! Jordan

Mack Dack

What genre of game were you really into as a kid and fell off as you aged? Did this happen to you at all or are your tastes largely the same? As I got older I found myself playing less first person shooters and enjoying 3rd person games a lot more.

gophish

Hey MinnMax boys! What's a game that you're ashamed to admit you love.

Erin T.

Let’s get gritty here! During the State of Play stream a while back, Hanson mentioned wanting to find a good, solid friend to play the PvP portion of Deathloop with. This left me screaming at my TV “Leo’s right there, he’s right under you!” I’ve always wondered about work/life balance when it comes to careers in video game coverage. Do the cohorts regularly play games together outside of MinnMax content? Or do you mostly game with your own friend groups to keep “work” and “play” separate? (your experiences as Game Informer staff are welcome too, since Dan worked there with you guys as well!)

KingCaitSith

Hello MinnMax crew and Fire Escape Dan! Love hearing you all together, your podcasts are so different, but both are so wonderful to listen to and never fail to brighten my day :) But let’s talk food! Ben and Dan both are or had been self admitted picky eaters! As a person who grew up incredibly picky, I love that as an adult I’m a total foodie now. I just love eating new food so much! One food I used to vehemently hate was onion rings, I used to hate onions, and by proxy also somehow hated their fried improvement! Now? I can’t get enough of those suckers! So my question to you is: What is a good food you used to hate, but tried as an adult and discovered “holy cow, I’ve been wrong my whole life”? Keep on eating on!!!

Shakenbake67

Hey MinnMaxers, with the Olympic opening ceremony playing video game music. Are you guys watching any Olympics? & also if you could wake up and compete at the Olympic level, which sport would you do?

Frenchnoble

How do you do, gentlemen? I'm looking to play video games for around 45 minutes everyday. I'll be playing on the Nintendo Switch. My interest in video games is primarily in their ability to tell an interactive story. So, what narrative based games do you recommend?

Crystal Keyframes Anmation

Hello, MinnMax! What, on average, is the best part of a video game… the beginning, the middle, or the end? Can you all come to a consensus?

Sincerly, Eric

Question for everyone, because of Dan, stolen from a recent Fire Escape Cast Episode. What was everyone's first memory of thier interaction with each other? What was your opinion of them? Bonus question, Dan did you really think Ben was a square?

Allistair

Greetings, MinnMax-ers! Thank you for the delicious content. May I add to it with this profoundly dumb question: Are there any video game sound clips that play internally in your head during certain moments in your day? For me, I always hear the low-res audio clip of Donkey Kong from DK64 going "ooooooh, banana..." whenever I grab a banana for my daily smoothie. Please tell me I'm not the only one...

TJ Brady

With the Abandoned app available for pre-load on playstation July 29th, do you guys have any idea what it could be? We know it’ll provide “real-time trailers” but with the rumors surrounding this game (Kojima/Silent Hill), could it be much more than that? My guess is that the trailers will change through each watch/playthrough… kinda similar to (dramatic pause) P.T. ??? Who knows! Any fun guesses you guys have?

Victor Pham

Does criticism need to be eloquently or meticulously conveyed to be valid? Or is it fair to just say a thing is dumb or bad?

NickWirth19

If there was a fast food order named after you, which restaurant would serve it and what would it consist of?

Jake Z

Do you ever think watching a movie with others is a weirdly anti-social activity or is it just me?

Mark Ramirez

The world needs to know that the Lord of the Rings Commentary Tracks are some of the funniest Minnmax content, I have almost been in tears laughing so hard. If you don’t have access to the exclusive podcasts, up your tier!

Starkiller

Heya MinnMaxers, since all of you go way back to the Game Informer days, what was your first impression of each other? And what was the moment that you knew you would be friends?

Clayton Myers

Hello all! I finished Skyward Sword HD yesterday and as I was looking a couple things up, YouTube surface Dan’s ranking of the Zelda series. I laughed aloud as I realized all four of the games I’ve played were in the bottom third of Dan’s ranking, Skyward Sword, Link’s Awakening, Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. I’ve never made it past the five or so hour mark with any of the others, despite having tried several including Breath of the Wild. My question is, what is the most games you’ve played in a series without playing any of the consensus best entries? Thank you for everything you do! Clayton

Ben

Do you guys ever experience "free time paralysis?" Where your free time feels so precious because it seems like you have to squeeze all of your recreation, socialization, relaxation etc into a scant few hours a week? How do you break out of it, especially with something as big a time investment as video games?

AnAttackCorgi

Hello fellow Pokemobas and mobamasters: What other franchises do you think would work as MOBAs? Also, could I follow along with what's happening in Pokemon Unite if MOBA's like League confuse the heck outta me? PS: I wouldn't mind another Lord of the Rings MOBA. A Super Smash Bros MOBA would be fun too!

Taylor Owens

Yeah, my question is for Dan the anime man. When will the kings of anime return? A new Dragonball movie has been announced and we all need the greatest podcast of all time, All Systems Goku, to make its triumphant comeback. Like the mighty saiyan himself, returning from the afterlife to save the earth yet again.

Tim Conlon

Ahoy-ahoy! I was looking for a podcast to listen to while I work and figured I'd give Blank Check a go thanks to Hanson. On episode 2 of their Phantom Menace talk and I can already tell I'm going to listen to every episode. I also just got Hitman 3 on sale and am looking forward to diving in. These are unrelated to my question, just wanted to say thanks for the recommendations. Now-- have you, or would you ever, LARP?

Gavin DeCroce

Hey CLC’s, how do you go about watching trailers for movies? Do you watch everything you can or go on media blackouts? I only watch teaser trailers and it’s really helped my enjoyment of movies. It makes me more excited to see it and keeps me from knowing where the movie might be going. I just watched the Fast and Furious 9 trailer after seeing it and holy cow did they spoil a lot! Thanks!

Nick Duncan

Hi there! What's the gaming item you've sold or gotten rid of that you regret the most? I remember selling my WiiU when the switch came out thinking I'd have all my virtual console games ready when VC came to Switch, and that Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD would be instantly ported over. Now it's my most missed console. What's yours?

RiskyChrisP

In honor of the console release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, it's time to play "Simulator: The Game!" I've combed through Steam and paired real simulator titles up with fakes. It's your job to guess which is real and which is just a simulation. 1. Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator OR Witchcraft: Witch Simulator Potion Craft is the real one. 2. BLEEP: A Cursing Simulator OR Karen: An Outrage Simulator Karen: An Outrage Simulator is the real one. 3. DEEEER Simulator: Your Average Everyday Deer Game OR Moooose Simulator: For Moose Who'd Rather Be Cows DEEEER Simulator is the real one. 4. Drunken Dad Simulator OR Catholic Priest Simulator Drunken Dad Simulator is the real one* *There is a Pope Simulator listed as "Coming Soon" on Steam, but that's obviously completely different. 5. Space Cowboy Simulator OR Space Ninja Simulator Space Ninja Simulator is real. 6. Deserter Simulator OR Dessert Her: A Tasty Dating Simulator Deserter Simulator is the real one. 7. Poop on 2020 Simulator OR Pooper Scooper Simulator: 20/20 Vision Poop on 2020 Simulator is real. 8. Dude Simulator 4 OR Doodle Simulator 3? Dude Simulator 4 is the real one. 9. Jaywalking Simulator OR Teeth Brushing Simulator Teeth Brushing is the real one. Tie-Breaker: Tea Party Simulator 2018 OR Tea Party Simulator 2015 2015 is the real one. Extra Tie-Breaker: Achievement Simulator OR Trophy Simulator Achievement Simulator is the real one.

bizkiut (Nick S.)

Alright CLC's (and Dan), Juicy Lucy's: overrated or best burger? Follow up to that, best fast food burger?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! This question is mainly for Dan, but everyone please feel free to chime in. As a fellow wrestling fan, I'd love to hear Dan's top 3 wrestling video games of all time.

Shawn Mills

This question is for everyone except Dan. What are your top farts in gaming?

Fatt Mish

Hi MinnMax. When I was 11 I ate an entire box of Swiss cake rolls and then went home to play Goonies 2 on my Nintendo. I played for about half an hour and then felt real sick for some time. Since then I've associated that sick feeling with Goonies 2 (even though I still enjoy the game). Have any of you had a weird association with something inside or outside of games that you had a hard time getting over? Keep up the good stuff! -Mars

Bryce Blackmore

As a teacher I have found that having a broad knowledge of various games that I like or don't like helps to create connections with kids who may not be interested in class. I sometimes have to fake my opinion on some games *cough* fortnite *cough* just to get there. However, sometimes kids will ask questions I can't answer and have to fake the answer to maintain credibility. Whats a game you have pretended to like around other people so that you don't stand out among your peers? Follow up question, has anyone called you out for faking it? What did you do?

Crayter

So, I just caught up on the call in show and had no idea Wolf Ridge was such a ubiquitous minnesotan school trip. I went with my class in 6th grade. Finding out everyone else went too is kinda blowing my mind. Are there other "every minnesotan has done this" type things that I've probably done but didn't know everyone else had done as well?

Aaron U

Hello MinnMax. I typically gravitate toward AAA, story driven games like the Uncharted franchise, Red Dead, Spider-Man etc. But I also really love Mario games, particularly 3D Mario games. My question is, is there a game or franchise that you love but is outside the norm of what you'd usually play?

Jesse Joxstrap Brown Baldock

Hey Minnmax crew. You guys read my question the other week. Really cool! I showed my family and they were like wooaah. I just wanted to say thanks it made my week. I s'pose I could throw in a question could you please tell a story of the first time you had in interaction with someone you admired as a celebrity type dealio. Kinda hard to put into words but yeah you get the idea. Whether it be in the gaming industry or whatever. Thanks everyone, shoutout to my big brother Leroy

Jason Wojnar

Hi Minnsers, Did your parents ever try to play video games with you as kids? For some reason, the only game my dad had any fancy for was Crash Bandicoot 2. Once every two months or so he would come and play only the first 2 or 3 levels and then that'd be it. He'd never want to save; he'd just repeat those firt couple of levels for literally about 15 years. Occassionaly we'd throw on something else for him but it just would not click.

Andrew Rennolds

hey minnmax crew, Have tried over the last few years to get into the gears games as i should love them but could never get into it, I played the first chapter on 5 seperate occasions before last week it clicked i really enjoyed it. I ended up finishing it and jumping into the second game straight away. What is a game you tried to play multiple times before finally enjoying it ?

YARF

I FINALLY FOUND ORANGE BUBBLY!!! Kyle brought it up like 700 days ago on a podcast with you guys, saying it was his favorite. I have been on the lookout ever since, but couldn’t find them.. except for scalpers selling them online at like $40 a box. FINALLY, at a Grocery Outlet type store there were 3 boxes of Orange, my wife called me at work, and she cleaned out the store. With trepidation, consternation, and trembling lips, I took my first optimistic sip, and offered this liquid gold to some soda drinking friends during a DnD session, ready to convert them to Bubbly. They F**king hated it, and besmirched me in my own home. I am liking Orange more and more as time passes. Easily top tier now. What are the best Bubbly flavors? Is Grapefruit the worst? Should I risk my marriage and tell my wife I play DnD?

Bob Buel

Howdy cohorts and Mr Ryckert, It’s time to play America’s fastest growing game show sensation - Earthbound enemy or Ska Band! So in every matchup below, one option is the name of an enemy from the Earthbound game and the other is the name of Ska band. Can you guess which is the real Earthbound enemies? (Note to Hanson: the ones with ** after the names are the Earthbound enemies) Sonic Boom Six or Mighty Bear Seven** Kung Fu Monkeys or Urban Zombies** Master Blaster or Robo-Pump** Psychic Psychos** or Stubborn All Stars Ego Orb** or Rude King High School Football Heroes or New Age Retro Hippies** Pietasters or Manly Fish’s Brother** French Kiss of Death** or Choking Victim

Since none of the gaming podcasts I listen to have talked about this, I want to go into the history of Tencent's MOBA, well, history. Everyone knows that Tencent fully owns Riot Games, who independently developed 2 MOBAs-League PC and Wild Rift (very different games), but do you know the story of the last MOBA that Tencent developed before Unite? 2015: TiMi Studio Group, Tencent's internal game development arm, released Honor of Kings on iOS/Android. Originally the game was called "Honor of Legends", but Riot (fully owned by Tencent at the time) complained that the name was too similar to League of Legends and so it was changed. Riot was originally asked to port League to phones, but they refused citing their belief that the core League expierence could not be replicated on mobile. 2016: HoK is released in the west under the title Arena of Valor, again on iOS and Mobile. Riot and Tencent begin to bicker about how and where Tencent advertises AoV in the west, as Riot sees it as a direct competitor 2016: ByteDance (of TikTok fame) releases their own Mobile MOBA, Mobile Legends Bang Bang. Its a plagiarized clone of League of Legends. So much so that Tencent successfully won a lawsuit because of the plagiarism. Pokemon Go is banned in China. 2017: Nintendo announces Arena of Valor will come to Switch during the Switch launch event. This is part of a partnership deal with Tencent to gain access to the Chinese market for Switch sales 2018: TiMi ports AoV to Switch. It is a full re-write of the game, with better visuals, effects, and with its own standalone balance changes made for the Switch experience. Meanwhile, another Tencent subsidiary publishes a mobile MOBA to compete with LoK in China. It flopped. 2019: Tencent halts Arena of Valor marketing in the West. Tencent announces that TiMi and The Pokemon Company are teaming up to develop a game for the Chinese market, but no details are given. Riot announces Wild Rift. 2020: Nintendo announces Pokemon Unite. Wild Rift's first Betas start. 2021: Wild Rift releases in China and America, Pokemon Unite is released

Hey all-as someone who is Diamond in League, and just hit Veteran in Unite, I gotta say this game is really really good. My hardcore League friends and I did not go into the game expecting the level of strategic depth and variety the game brings, but we've all been pleasently surprised by how much of the core MOBA expierence is packed in there. While there are definitely some pokemon that are better than others, now that people are starting to get mastery of their mains I've been pleasently surprised by the variety of picks I've seen do well, especially relative to the first day or two of the game. If anyone is looking for some advice--One of the most common mistakes I see new players making is staying out on the map too long. Recalling (down on the dpad) takes only 3 seconds and will heal you back to full. Dieing in Unite not only loses you orbs, but also gives the enemy team XP, putting you further behind. Getting kills doesn't win you games, not dieing is what will give you the edge. Unrelated, but Outlaster is an amazing game and I'm so glad Leo talking about it convinced me to seek it out. It is the dream Survivor video game we all have wanted for years, and somehow it showed up in Roblox first.

Mason Parker

Which is better? Mario Kart 64 Or Diddy Kong Racing?

Ian Switaj

What's up MinnMax crew!? My heart was absolutely racing this past week. And no, I'm not referring to "Hot Andy Mac". I'm talking about the opening ceremony for the Olympics in which the playlist for the march of nations was a collection of video game songs. Hearing orchestral versions of Frog and Robo's themes among others being broadcast on an international broadcast on the world stage filled my heart with absolute glee. My question for you guys, what's your favorite or most memorable occasion where the "world of video games" and "non-video games" intersected?

Fred Dinovo

Howdy crew, What makes a proper breakfast? Are pancakes too heavy? Should muffins count? Is it a time thing? As long as it is before 11AM it counts as breakfast? Settle the debate once and for all, thanks!

Brandon Lovesee

Hi MinnMax crew Long time listener first time commenter. It's been about a month now since E3 and I was thinking about what makes a good press conference. Many people raved over the Nintendo Direct, but I found it lackluster. WarioWare looked weird and not interesting and it was disappointing to only get a trailer and a vague release date for BotW 2. Even as a Nintendo fan, it didn't grab me. On the other hand, the Microsoft/Bethesda conference was amazing. Tons of new games, an actual release date for their biggest game, and highlighting game pass. I haven't owned an Xbox since the used 360 I picked up once and that conference almost made me want to go and get a Series S with Game Pass just to play all those games! So here's my question - what makes a good conference? Is it new game announcements, details about upcoming releases, or what? Is one big game (a la Breath of the Wild 2) enough to make it great? Should the conference be aiming to get people already fans more hyped or get new people to buy in? Thanks and love the show.

PetrichorZ

Who will be the last man standing in video game titles? John Madden or Tom Clancy?

Brian Baxter

Hey MinnMax Is the Xbox brand inherently not special? Not a console wars question, but more a discussion on brand identity. I think we can all agree, Phil Spencer has done an amazing job righting the Xbox ship and presenting a lot of value to gamers. That being said, I can’t help but notice their franchises being a little tired and their new efforts lacking star power. Franchise like Halo, Forza and Gears seem long in the tooth. A new entry from Psychonauts doesn’t draw the anticipation of Ratchet or a Nintendo platformer. Even an acquisition like Bethesda, was accomplished as Fallout 76 was a failure and Arkane struggled to find success. So I wonder, is the Xbox brand not special, unlucky, mismanaged? It’s been a while since they had a game as exiting as the Titanfall launch. Love the show
