I waited until he was back on the show to say this, but big thank you to Leo Vader for his GALOT from a couple of weeks ago about the Oculus Air Link. I had heard it was coming a while ago but didn't know when. I don't have the space for VR where my computer is, so now I've been able to get back into Half-Life Alyx and am loving it!

Joel

Hello Ben, Leo, Jeff and Suriel, greetings from Spain! What is the best game you didn't like? I've played Super Mario Galaxy for the first time in the Switch and I could not get used to how Mario and the camera are controlled in a 3D space. I know that it's blasphemy to not like Galaxy, and the game has many merits, but I just didn't click with me.

Shakenbake67

Oh no that Suriel prompt makes me thinks he’s leaving. If he is, I’m so happy for the time he had a MinnMax and he was by far the funniest cohort there. Sorry Leo! My question is, what was your first impression of Suriel and what is it now? Good luck to you Suriel, looking forward to following you whereever you go

neuroflare

My favorite thing about Suriel is he is very funny. Please watch his trip to the fortune teller for E3 predictions at GI several years ago https://youtu.be/v4Z4Za_J6Zo

A majority of Minnmax's content is shared via YouTube and Twitch. Here's the scenario: some jerk buys YouTube and Twitch tomorrow and says "no more for you!" and deletes both services. What alternatives would you explore to keep your fans and keep your indie train a-rollin'? (If Janet Garcia or Sarah Podz is on, I'd love to hear their take as well.)

Scott Hebert

Congrats, team! You have finished the tutorial level of life. It took you a little longer than we all had hoped, but you dragged yourself out of the vault or you escaped prison or whatever Bethesda trope you want to lay out, but the point is, Yay! Your journey can begin! Since you were just figuring things out up until now, we are going to allow you each a one time only skill re-allocation. You can take points out of any life skills, and add them to others. Whatever your heart desires. Oh, and video games are on a different skill tree. Hanson, if you want to be as good at fighting games as Suriel, you're going to need to dump some of that Pokémon knowledge. The other three members of the panel can adjudicate whether or not the skill swaps are fair. Good luck, have fun, and we'll see you at level two!

Hello Ben and the 'horts! In my opinion, this has been the best console generation for backwards compatibility in a long time, and the upgrades are a nice added bonus. Still, there's inevitably some online backlash any time the upgrade isn't free. Given that some dev work goes into these, I don't think the small payment is unreasonable. So which is it, are publishers getting greedy, or are gamers being unreasonable with their expectations?

PetrichorZ

With the rise of Gamepass, do you think we could see more small projects from large developers owned by Microsoft? It could be good for Microsoft as they get to advertise a game by a well known studio more often, and developers could get a palate cleanser between long projects and try out weird ideas. What developer would you like to see a small game from?

TheUnchartedWolf

Hey cohorts, Considering all the different streaming services out there, including ones for gaming, which one do y'all use the most. While I love HBO Max, I find myself always returning to Netflix.

John Richards

Hola Cohorts, Do you think video games should have a return policy? Or perhaps an industry standard “try before you buy” policy? As a gamer on a budget, It’s super discouraging to spend upwards of $60 on a game, only to play it for a maximum of one hour because it’s broken, the camera controls make me motion sick, or the game play just isn’t enjoyable for my play style. Can anyone relate to this, or am I just a just a fake gamer boy?

PoorAndCurly

Hey Cohorts, With Psychonauts 2 out, what is another decade old IP that only got one release, that you would like to see a sequel for?

PetrichorZ

Nintendo consoles and handhelds often have prefixs and suffexs to go along with their name. "Super" for the Super Nintendo (Super Metroid, Super Star Wars, etc), subtitles with DS for the DS (Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Mr. Driller - Drill Spirits) or just throwing 64 at the end for N64. If the modern consoles had a prefix or suffex associated with their games, what would you want it to be?

Zach Killian

Hello MinnMax! I have a little game for ya'll. I'm going to list a game and you guess how long it takes to beat, on average, the main story in these games. (These are according to twitter.com/HowLongToBeat and on their website) 1. Super Mario World- 5 hours 2. Devil May Cry (PS2)- 6 hours 3. Pokemon Gold and Silver- 25 hours 4. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time- 26.5 hours 5. Metroid Prime- 14 hours 6. Final Fantasy X- 46 hours 7. Metal Gear Solid (PS1)- 11.5 hours 8. Chrono Trigger- 23 hours 9. Assassins Creed- 15 hours 10. Elder Scrolls Skyrim- 33.5 hours

Howdy gang, In the vein of Red Flag movies, is there such a thing as a red flag video games? Can you think of any examples?

Sean Mason

Hey CLCs, Over the weekend, my fiancee and I had a small group of friends over. While over, we did the typical stuff (Games, Chatting, Eating, ETC.). For the most part, the night was a great time, but one thing that irked me (and some of our guests) was one of our guests (a plus one of our friends) chewed their food with their mouth open. This is a huge pet peeve of mine and I couldn’t get past it. Every time she took a bite of food it was like watching a little kid who doesn’t know any better eat. It was disgusting, to say the least. It was so noticeable, that a few of the friends in the room text me asking if they should say something to her or the friend who brought her. I told them no, but after a few hours (and a few drinks) one of my friends couldn’t help himself. He stood up and said “I’ll be the one to say it…. You chew like a cow. Do you have any manners?” At this point, my fiancee and I bid everyone ado and called it a night. So my question: Has your friend ever done anything that has made everyone in your friend group uncomfortable? Best, Sean M

Deep Space Trace

I heard someone recently say that Ghost of Tsushima has “crunchy combat”. What does this mean to you?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! What's the most useless talent you have?

Tanner Hoisington

Simple question: why aren't more games like Psychonauts made today? What are we losing out on as a gaming collective?

Palo

We've gone through Standard Definition (480i, 576i), Enhanced Definition (480p, 576p), High Definition (720p, 1080i, 1080p), Ultra High Definition (4k, 8k). For some reason, you've been tasked with naming the next 'definition', what's your pitch?

Ari

With the release of Psychonauts 2, I would like to ask what other video game characters' minds would you like to dive into and explore. Don’t forget in true Tim Schafer fashion once inside we discover their internal struggles, moral dilemmas or mental blocks. For example: Mario’s dilemma could be how he depends too much on the use of power ups, when he is on his adventures to save Princess Peach. All the best - Ari

Hey guys! I have recently been duped into buying Hyrule Warriors (the original Wii U release) for the 3rd time on Switch. I have come to find out that it is the ultimate "junk food" game. It is reasonably enjoyable, but at the end of the day, I would say the game prioritizes quantity over quality. I think I'm just addicted to punching stuff and watching numbers go up. It doesn't matter that my backlog keeps getting bigger and bigger. I'm filling up on Hyrule Warriors potato chips, so I can't enjoy my Last of Us steak dinner. All that said, what's your favorite "junk food" game?

AnAttackCorgi

The internet is questioning what animals they think they could take in a fist fight, so let’s make a twist on that for the panel. What general video game enemy do you think you could beat in a fight? Fun fact, after this question became a meme, one study found 8% of men thought they could win in a fist fight with a lion. These 8% will not live past 50, probably. Cheers, AnAttackCorgi

Playing Skyward Sword recently got me thinkin’: Which game has the best NPC walking animations? (It ain’t Skyward Sword!) PS - my favorite thing about Suriel is his ability to speak insightfully and directly about the tender topics a lot of games media tends to shy away from - he has a great way of diffusing a topic and speaking to the core controversy or issue, and that’s a welcome change from the typical “it’s bad, but let’s not talk about it!”

Jarell Pryor

What's up folks, I picked up Ghost of Tsushima a few months ago, and loved it. I really enjoyed the beauty of the world, and sincerity of the characters, it was a very moving experience for me. And now the DLC just happens to come out a month after I finish it. I could hop in while everything's pretty fresh in my mind. But I gotta admit, I'm not really itching to jump back into such an impactful world so quickly. I think I might be more interested if I had finished the main game at launch, instead of a year later now. But I also don't want too much time to pass, because I feel like I start losing my interest in the game's characters. And I know I'll never come back to it once I lose comfortability with the controls. What do you all think? When are you most interested in some new follow-up content? Do you like when DLC is tee'd up as soon as you finish the initial experience? Or do you like taking a longer break, and play DLC as a chance to revisit the world after some time has passed? - Jarell (juh-rell)

My favourite thing about Suriel is how well he articulates himeself around interesting and often tricky topics of conversation. He will often help me to articulate to other people thoughts I have in my head but can't quite communicate effectively. Additionally, he will sometimes have a take on an issue that I had not yet considered which makes me question my own ideas and I like that.

RiskyChrisP

Howdy Cohorts, I recently played through Dark Pictures: Little Hope and was enjoying it despite it having some pretty major flaws until I got to the last cutscene and had two characters die in an insanely dumb way. I took most of my other issues with that game on the chin, but in that instance it sort of soured the entire experience for me. How much does the ending of something color your opinion of it as a whole? Have you had a similar experience?

Starkiller

Heya Cohorts, This is just a quick and dirty question that I certainly have never asked before. What's the most obscure movie fact you know? Alternatively, what's your favorite movie fact? In honor of the LotR commentary tracks, I'll throw out one of my favorites. In The Two Towers, Arwen (Liv Tyler) was originally supposed to show up at the battle of Helm's Deep with the other elves. They even filmed some action scenes with her. Ultimately they decided that it didn't make too much sense for her to be there so they cut that idea. Also I've talked about it before on a Council Call-In with Suriel, but his Twitter is top tier. He is secretly one of the funniest people and incredibly quick.

Jake Z

What game has the best collectible?

Keaton

Hey MinnMax Gang! What game have you tried getting in to but, you missed the initial hype around release. Do you feel like you could feasibly get into the game after release or has the spark somehow left the game for you. I have bought Skyrim more times than I care to think about but since I didn’t play it in 2011, when it took over the world, it has never truly grabbed me.

Sincerly, Eric

Wait. Why are we saying our favorite things about Suriel?!?!? That makes me nervous.... (I love it when he goes on long rants about fighting games. The eyes of all of you glaze over but I'm here for it.) If you all could be one mythical creature what would it be?

Dunder

Hey Ben And The CLCS, While I patiently wait for the TMNT: Shredders Revenge release date, I was wondering what you think separates an excellent 2D brawler from an average one. Which is your all-time favorite?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friends, For Suriel appreciation I would like to say that I myself lived in Mexico then Nebraska then Minnesota. So I'd like to know when/if Suriel plans on moving again so I can get my affairs in order. I've also always appreciated Suriel's gaming interests since they are probably the farthest from my own, but hearing him passionately talk about games he enjoys is great insightful content.

Shawn Mills

If you were stuck in a time loop for 12 minutes what would you spend all your time doing?

Mike Lynch

My fave thing about Suriel is his Pokemon Brexit joke. In the UK the two games would be sold as Pokemon Stay and Pokemon Leave.

Ian Switaj

Hello CLC's! Last week I woke up to find #TifaShortHair trending on Twitter. While I enjoyed the neat fan art, mods, and an interesting write-up from friend of the show Ana Diaz entitled, "I’ve seen Tifa with short hair and I can’t go back," I can't help but think that that was one of the weirder and unexpected things I've seen trending in a while. What's the most bizarre or unexpected trend that you have come across either on Twitter or IRL?

Solo

What is the most stuck you've been in a game? Was it because of a challenge or a puzzle? Did you succeed or fail? Bye.

Cade Mead

I have a few favorite things about Suriel. First off, it's so nice when he gives a full speech about what he's been playing. I enjoy getting a full, usually passionate opinion. And he's blunt about the good and bad. We need more bluntness! Suriel also has a broader(?) awareness of games, which overlaps a lot with my own. It's nice to have things like Suda51, fighters, Bloodstained, The Swapper represented. I also just like how Suriel always manages to get Ben to explode with laughter with a quick, dry line. If this is a departure from Minnmax, then it will be only the third time I've felt bothered by a games media personality leaving a format since Chris Shepperd and Andy Myers of Nintendo Power, and Adam Sessler of OG G4 (and again at Rev3). Good luck in whatever comes next, both to Suriel and to Minnmax in general. :^)

saibher (cyber)

Just wanted to pop in and say: Love the social media and Discord presence for MinnMax. The daily Instagram stories are really cool and I like the amount of content y'all are pumping out now. It's been a wild ride, and I think MinnMax has come a long way since 2019. Do you think that growing a fan base indefinitely is important? Or is there a point where you'll be "content" with the community we have here?

YARF

“What has been your greatest disappointment for an adaptation from any type of entertainment?! Mine is the second Silent Hill Movie... yarf!” That was my question to the Game Informer Show all those years ago. That question was read on the show, and Suriel had an EMPHATIC reaction to the “yarf” part, and now it is my name for Patreon. Now, it is also my legal name. Owe it all to Suriel! Good times.

Andrew Harwood

Hey Ben and the rest of the lovely staff and guests! I have 2 choices for you and you have to pick one. Would you rather have a perfect memory of all your favorite games but never get to play them ever again, or your memory of the game is immediately erased every time you play through it. Also, if you start a playthrough of one of the favorites you have to finish it before you play anything else. -Andy in Chicago

Adam Hayes

You're stuck in a time loop, and the only way to break it is to beat the speed run record for a chosen game. Once chosen you cannot switch games. What game do you choose?

Leo’s Immersion

Hey all! So, on the Great Metroid Retrospective, you debated captions. I was sad to see Hanson ganged up on so unfairly while everyone else expressed the wrong opinion, so here are my thoughts. Captions are useful.. *sometimes*. I.e., for Jeffm’s wife, or when all the characters have accents and use unusual vernacular. However, reading is one of the only skills we learn that we can’t choose not to do. I imagine some people experience this less than others, but generally, when words are in front of your face, it is difficult not to read them. Personally, I cannot keep myself from reading subs and missing valuable visual input, and sometimes this also causes me to read a line before it’s actually spoken. I think this has a massively negative impact on the viewing experience, and it is just that. A *viewing* experience. Ben touched on this, and I don’t think his argument was given a fair shake. I also don’t think I should need captions because I’m watching an action movie and the volume escalates unreasonably. Shouldn’t that be on the “show maker’s” side to figure out? P.S. It better just be Suriel’s birthday or something, or I will FLIP OUT.

tbeeks15

Whaddup cohorts?! What is the gamer version of the Tim “the Toolman” Taylor grunt? -Beeks

Fatt Mish

Greetings MinnMax family! Do you think we've become too cynical in the gaming community? I see a lot of positivity on Twitter, gaming websites, and podcasts, but I feel there's always a group of people that want to knock down anyone's enjoyment within the gaming circles. Is it just human nature to look at the negative side of things, or are we as gamers more likely to be attuned to the possibility of the other shoe dropping? I hope you all have a wonderful day and keep up the great work! -Mars

Woodman

I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on the big changes to the GI show, and how they’ve been citing you as an inspiration for their new direction. How do you feel about having an impact on a new generation of video game podcasters?

Jason Wojnar

Do you game while on vacation? My brother visited me for the first time in almost two years for about 3 weeks. The first 10 days we were in different cities seeing the sightss but the last 11 days we took it much smoother and kind of spent more days inside my apartment just playing video games. We mostly spent time with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, Cuphead, Quake, and Cars 3 (actually a fun game). Do you consider this wasted time? For context, I live in Ukraine and it was his first time ever in any European country.

PhillyYeetSteak

Did you hear the news? Minnmax is now a place for game, friends, and *burning bridges* (Sorry i had to be the one to tell you). In each pairing, you have to give up one of the two things. What are you willing to swear off forever? 1. Petting a dog in game or touching a wii remote in real life 2. Riding a horse in games or driving a car in games 3. Using mouse and keyboard for any FPS or playing local multiplayer 4. Playing on the easiest difficulty or buying cosmetics 5. Playing a lego game or touching actual legos 6. Anything turn based or subtitles 7. Sidescrollers or games with dialoge choices 8. Matchmaking with randoms or being able to invite a friend 9. L1 or R1 (or equivalent)

Jordan Blayney

Hey Ben and the Crew! I was watching gameplay of the first Infamous and I remembered how cool it was playing it for the first time especially regaining health from electrical equipment in the world. What are some other iconic ways to regain health in other video games? Thanks for the great show! Jordan

Keenan Horrell

Hey Ben and Crew, I thought I would write in to give some insight on the Psychonauts 2 Fig campaign. I was a backer and bought one share for $500 dollars back in 2015 or 16. When it was first announced that Double Fine was being purchased by Microsoft they sent out a message that Microsoft would buy out our shares at I think just south of $700 dollars per share (it was a few years ago so I cant recall the exact number). So all of the investors made around $200 profit per share. It was nice to be guaranteed a profit but it would have been fun to see how it would have actually performed on the open market, would have added another layer of hype to the release. Ps. I visited Minneapolis for the first time this week, what a delightful city.
