Hey, y’all! What are the top 5 games on your Switch when you sort by total play time? Any surprises? Any that you think may usurp the top spot sometime in the future? I’ve recently started playing Stardew for the first time and it’s quickly climbing the ranks. For the record mine are: Breath of the Wild Hades Smash Ultimate Cuphead Mario Odyssey Thanks, gang. Keep up the good work

Hey MinnMaxers! And hey Joe! I think about you every time I'm in the shower! (I use Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo and right on the front of the bottle it says it's made with "Jojoba Oil.") Anyway, every year at my work they have clubs in the fall that work basically just like the after school clubs in high school. This year, I volunteered to lead one on video games. After asking everyone who joined how they wanted the club to go, we're basically doing a handful of truncated Deepest Dives over the next few months, starting with Titanfall 2! I'm leading the discussion and am super excited, but I would love to know if you have any advice on moderating this kind of discussion. What kinds of questions work best? How do you include the quieter people without making them feel uncomfortable? Are there any little tips people might not think about that really help? (We have about 10 people in the group and have roughly 30 minutes to work with.) As always, thank you for all the awesome content! ~Brady Easter Edmond, OK (in case you're curious)

Hey CLC’s! I’ve got a game for you to put your video game knowledge to the test. In “Smash Bros. Ultimate”, when fighting on the Boxing Ring stage from PunchOut, on the screen in the background, the characters are displayed with a title describing that character. For example, when Sonic the Hedgehog is displayed, he is described as “The Blue Blur”. Can you name these characters from just their title? “Scoundrel with a Fart of Gold” (Wario) “Wants to Be the Very Best” (Pokemon Trainer) “The Prescriber” (Dr. Mario) “Master of Two Dimensions” (Mr. Game and Watch) “The BMI Bandit” (Wii Fit Trainer) “Omnivore of the Year” (Yoshi) “The Pink Demon” (Kirby) “The Warrior Within” (Zero Suit Samus) “Bloom of Your Doom” (Piranha Plant) Thanks guys, and keep up the great podcast, Styster

Hey cohorts and hey Joe! Hanson, I was really pleased to hear you bemoaning the end of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film on last week's show, as that has irritated me for years. On that note, have you ever had a hyper-specific opinion, or made a reference to a niche subject, that you have been really pleased and surprised that someone else understood or agreed with. Keep up the good work, Jonathan, Nottingham UK

The Sideline Crowd

Hello Ben and Crew! I have just gifted you the power of Video Game Necromancy! You are now able to resurrect a video game franchise to breath new life into via reboots, remasters and new sequels. The only catch is that you must sacrifice another franchise you enjoy and it will cease to exist. What are your decisions? For example, I would resurrect Jet Force Gemini from the N64, and sacrifice Crash Bandicoot.

At your end of year round-up for 2020 there was a lot of debate about whether Cyberpunk 2077 should count due to a very late in the year release date. If I remember correctly, you ultimately decided to wait for 2021 to rank it. With the next-gen Cyberpunk 2077 update aiming for very late 2021, when is that game (or any game) truly out? Also, are you worried about this question arising again this year with November/December releases such as Halo Infinite, Shin Megami Tensei V, Jurassic World Evolution 2, or anything announced for that date range from the Playstation Showcase?

Spencer Price

What up, Joe Juba! Is Sony this generation feeling a bit like the $600 PS3 Sony? With there flip flopping messaging in cross gen upgrades and believing in generations talk, I can't help but feel the, "We're on top so consumers will go along with whatever we do." attitude. What does Sony need to do to lose that public perception, or will they be just fine being the arrogant market leader? Maybe after this showcase, their games will do the talking. Also, when the heck is FF7R coming to other platforms?

Deep Space Trace

What’s up with all the time loop games this year? 12 Minutes, The Forgotten City, Returnal, Deathloop…why so many? Are they a fad or is it a genre that’s going to stick around?

Dustin L

Hey there CLC's! Last week Ben said "Devil May Cry just isn't my series". That got me thinking, what's a game series that just isn't for me? I'll play almost any game and enjoy it, from the Maddens to the Call of Dutys to the Mass Effects to the JRPGs. Heck, I even got into a NASCAR game on Gamecube back in the day! I think for me, it'd have to be XCOM. I'm not huge on strategy games in general, but throw in permadeth and hard difficulty, it's just not my jam. What's a popular series that just isn't for you?

John Richards

What’s a trope or theme in media that always get you? Personally I’m a sucker for revenge stories. Could be the dumbest movie in the world, but if the bad guy gets their comeuppance, my lizard brain is satisfied.

Dennis M.

Hey MinnMax! Do you think you have already played your favorite game of all time or will it be replaced by a game in the future? Greetings, Dennis (two Ns)

Hello Hanson and the CLCs, For some context ahead of this one, I’m from the UK and live in London. Back in April I was over at a friend’s house for a birthday party. This was back when we were still in lockdown here in the UK, so the government guidelines were that we had to stay outdoors the entire time. As the day turned into evening it got a little chilly, so we decided to light a fire to toast marshmallows and keep warm. The host of the party, who is American, grabbed some firewood and a bunch of newspapers to use as kindling. She started stuffing the newspaper into the fire as it was beginning to light, and handed a bunch to the rest of us to tear up into strips. When we opened the newspapers to start tearing into them, we noticed that they were all old newspapers from America. I looked at the front page of the one I was holding, only to see the headline ‘ELVIS PRESLEY FOUND DEAD’. It was an original newspaper from the day that Elvis died in 1977. My other friends looked at their papers to see they were all from key moments in American history over the last 50 years. We immediately stopped tearing them up and tried to stop our friend from setting them on fire, assuming she didn’t realise what they were, as we’d been drinking the whole day for the party and so were all pretty wasted by this point. But she knew exactly what they were. It turned out they were sent to her from her dad back in the States who she claimed was a massive hoarder and was trying to clear some space by offloading them onto her. She said she didn’t have space to store them, and they were just taking up room in her house, she was never going to read them, and sorting through them to find any of actual real value to sell was too big of a job, so she had been using them as kindling to get rid of them. So, my question is – should we all just burn all of our stuff that we don’t look at anymore?

Joshua Bucy

Hey guys! Ive heard Ben talk about suffering from motion sickness while playing games and especially first person shooters. I sympathize with you but I’ve never experienced this with any game. What do you think causes the propensity for motion sickness while playing games? How much is nature and how much is nurture? Do you think playing teleroboxer on virtual boy as a 5 year old helped inoculate me against motion sickness?

tbeeks15

Hey cohorts! While listening to last weeks Bombcast, Ben Hanson was mentioned. This was cool yet kinda odd for me because I’ve been meaning to write into you guys about this exact thing for the past few weeks. So, have you ever been listening or watching content where you suddenly come up in the conversation? Love & Respect, -Beeks

podbod

Yo yo Yea-Yea and the CLCs, What do you think is the best "simple" invention? I'm not talking cell phone or car. I'm talking about basic creations that help us a lot each day. Fork. Underwear. Pillow. Towel. Umbrella. Screw. There are a lot of examples. So what do you think is the best simple invention?

Conner McCabe

Hey Cool cats, When you park in a parking space, do you park nose in our nose out? I’ve been noticing more cars than usual parking by reversing into a space and it has me curious. I feel like it’s a masculinity thing (sort of like how there’s dudes who have to sit at a table with their back to a wall) but perhaps I’m being a bit judgy here. You tell me!

Mark Weston

With Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War will be coming out on PS4 and PS5, do you think 2022 will be the last year that games will be released on both current gen and last gen? I’ve been trying to get a PS5 but so far, I haven’t had any success.

Kees ('Case') Mulder

Hi Ben and the Computer-Liking Cohorts! Where are you guys on credits? Skip or watch and reflect? (Sidenote: I turn out to be the type of person who would write MinnMax podcast questions while letting the Psychonauts 2 credits roll)

Matthew Weatherley

G'day Minnmaxeroos What phases or memorable quotes from video games have made it straight into your daily lexicon. Recently my son and I have been playing psyconaughts 2 and we both can't resist saying "reveal the meal" every time my wife is cooking. Another one that I use alot is "where did everybody go, bingo"? Also bonus question. Do you guys and girls use kettles to boil water for your tea. I have been informed Americans use a microwave to boil water and that baffles me. Thanks for the great show.

Sean Mason

Hello CLCs, At the time of writing, it’s the third day of the school year and the shenanigans have already begun. During the second period of the day, a sixth-grader pulled the fire alarm sending the school into an absolute panic. We just had our annual start of the school year fire drill, so not only did the staff know it wasn’t a drill, but so did the kids. Students were yelling and screaming that the school was going to burn down. All in all, 35 minutes later the fire department deemed the building to be safe. It turns out a sixth-grader pulled the alarm in an attempt to skip changing for gym class, as this is his first year in middle school, and is embarrassed to change in front of others. So my question: When have you (or anybody you know) done something outrageous to get out of doing something that you didn’t want to do? Best, Sean M.

Timothy Pitts

We’re seeing remasters now about ten years after initial release. What 2021 game deserves a remaster in ten years?

Timothy Pitts

Follow-up - What 2021 game is totally undeserving of a remaster but will receive one anyway?

Bryce Blackmore

Gday cohorts, If someone was to put together a showcase for your upcoming life what would be promised in your trailer which you won't live up to/deliver the goods. follow up - how do you handle the backlash of those around you

chris cuevas

Hey Ben and MinnMaxxers and welcome back Joe! Have yall seen that new Bob Ross documentary on Netflix? I came away from it with so many emotions and the new level of insight into his life was nice on one hand but on the other hand seeing past the curtain like that can completely change the way you feel about someone since you build up a certain persona to them in your own head. Bringing this back to games have you guys ever met a game director or someone in the industry whose games you were a big fan of? How did your feelings toward them change afterwards?

Crayter

When Nintendo released NES games for switch online, they also made NES controller Joycons. When they released SNES games, they released a Bluetooth SNES controller. With Nintendo rumored to release gameboy games to switch online, do you think we'll get a joycon that's just the bottom half of a gameboy? Also: what do you think the coolest joycon/switch accessory they could make would be?

IanTClark

Hey there Ben, Kyle, Janet, and my home boy Joe! I turn 44 today (September 8th). Can I get a happy birthday song? Love you.

Jonathan Dinh

Hello, What game have you played in recent memory put the biggest smile on your face?

Justin Ray

I finished Psychonauts 2 over the weekend and loved it so much. I have been a long time fan of the series and it was nice returning to it. Now that Psychonauts 2 is out what would you prefer double fine to do next? I personally would love a Psychonauts 3 but want to hear what you think. As a bonus question what was your favorite joke from psychonauts 2?

Justin

Hey cohorts! Every time there’s a new Sony presentation, I get excited thinking some of the old gems of the Playstation 1 will somehow find a return. Games like Jet Moto, Syphon Filter, Legend of Dragoon, and Colony Wars are all old PS1 games that I still love and would gladly welcome some sort of return. Any old semi-obscure PS1 games you hope will someday be brought back?

Solo

MinnMax and Joe Juber! What Marvel Entertainment movie would you want to be a main or supporting character in? Don't worry about gender or other things. It could be a movie that is already out, coming soon, or your own. Bye.

God's Garage

You’re a publisher, and it’s time to make a showcase. do you pick Geoff Keighley to host or Phil Spencer? Are you showing upcoming projects from Naughty Dog or Double Fine? Pick three things to create your dream showcase, and then rate each other’s. You know, if you want to

Joe Dean

Hey CLCs, Thanks to companies like Limited Run Games, Iam8bit, Special Reserve Games, and others we are able to get some wonderful physical/collector's editions of indie games. What's one indie game you'd love to get the huge collector's edition treatment, and what cool bonuses you would want? Let's assume they already come with an art book and soundtrack; so maybe a vinyl figure, a standee, or a retro inspired case? Feel free to go in depth describing the collector's edition you would want. I'd love a collector's edition of What Remains of Edith Finch that has her journal with all the stories, her knitted gloves, and a model of the house. Thanks, Joe Dean

YARF

Would you eat lab grown beef/chicken meat if it tasted the exact same? If you would eat lab grown beef/chicken meat…would you eat lab grown human meat? A “MANwich” if you will, and there was no suffering, just meat from cells grown in a petri dish. Slippery slope.

Joshua Caleb

Hey CLCs, I'm curious, why do you think Sony is insistent on charging for next-gen upgrades for their games? Especially when they originally promised they would be free. Surely they can't be making /THAT/ much off the $10 upgrade charge when it gives them all this bad press and juju from gamers. And it makes them look bad next to Microsoft and their buy once, play anywhere Smart Delivery system.

Jason Wojnar

Hi Folks, GI has a new segment called heat map where they ask listeners to send in an audio recording of a hot take they believed in. I submitted that Uncharted 4 is weakest game in the Uncharted series (I have my reasons, it's still like an 8/10, just not as good as the other ones) and everybody on the show basically tore me a new one. Aside from logic of tearing someone down for giving you something you asked for, have you ever stated a video game opinion or "hot take" that got you laughed out of the room? Did you end up changing your mind or do you still stick to your guns? For example, somebody really, REALLY liking Metroid: Other M.

Stephan

Hey MinnMax cohorts and crew. I have been listening to some of Hans Zimmer’s scores recently and they are really good. What are some of your favourite scores to listen to? (Be it from video games or other things) Or do they just blend in with the background for you?

Donnie

Hey friends! How often do you wash your every-day mug? Thanks! Oh and one more thing, I almost forgot. Joe, what would be your ideal Columbo video game?

Fatt Mish

Hi Minnmax people! Love the show. Okay... close your eyes. Imagine you're on a very comfortable couch playing one of your favorite games on a big screen TV. You have a controller in your hand with your fingers ready to play. You have your favorite snacks and drink by your side and the entire evening ahead of you. What controller did you picture in your mind?

GreenMountainState

Hey MinnMax, I know it's a bit far out but have you started thinking about the two tens format for the end of the year discussions? Any refinements or changes coming this year to how those will go? I really enjoy the conversation when you're going through the games that won't quite make it and people are speaking to why they liked them and what maybe holds them back a little.

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello Joe and crew! Simple question. What game was your personal game of the summer? Not necessarily something that came out over the summer, just what you were focused on the most or stands out the most in hindsight.

ImABiggyBoi

Now that you're recordling live, do you actually feel alive?

Mike Po

Hello Ben and Cohorts! Is any other video game series expected to deliver as much quality content as a mainline Halo game? A Halo game is expected to have excellent gameplay, a great campaign, excellent multiplayer, and robust co-op options, including local split screen. If any of these are either missing or unsatisfactory, the game will be viewed as a subpar Halo game. No other series I can think of is required to do as many things to meet expectations. No flagship Playstation franchise is expected to have co-op or a decent multiplayer. We've all collectively given up hope Nintendo's online will ever be more than mediocre. Is Halo just being asked to do too much compared to other franchises?

TheUnchartedWolf

Hey MinnMaxians, last week I was talking about how I started One Piece and two weeks later I'm still loving it. My question is how do you feel about spoilers for something that came out more than 20 years ago. Trying to avoid spoilers for the show has been tough, but I understand that most of the show's plot points are now part of pop culture making it hard to avoid.

Mark H

Hello all! I'll try to keep it short. Are we entering a Golden age of Gaming? If not what would be needed to start one? Sony, Nintendo and Xbox are all killing it with their own unique takes on gaming, resulting in a plethora of high quality titles. Indies continue to push the medium in interesting and inventive ways. Even for casual gamers, the mobile gaming space is massive, accessible and captivating. It seems like every aspect of gaming is growing. The future for gamers is very bright. So can we say this is a golden age? Or is focusing just on the players' perspective too narrow?

John Scovic

Hey all, I know you've gotten questions like this before but it's been a while and times are... different. I'll be visiting Minneapolis for the first time next month for a Friday-Sunday and am looking for advice on things to do! All I have in my head about Minneapolis are Mall of America (bad idea right now), and "Juicy Lucy." What are the good museums or outdoor activities, and which ones seem to be well-spaced/masked right now? Our airbnb seems to be in "Phillips," but we're driving from Chicago so we'll have a car. Looking forward to your responses! Thanks!

Adam_CW

Do you guys have any souvenirs that people have given you from trips that you still use?

Colton Westbrooks

Hello Joe and MinnMax crew! Summer is officially in the homestretch! I personally cannot wait for the weather to cool down some. Fall is my favorite time of the year. What part of Fall do you look forward to the most? The weather? Game releases? Holidays? Pumpkin spice everything!!!?

saibher (cyber)

Hey MinnMax, Have any of yall heard/played the the Battle Royale, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodhunt? It has some pretty unique mechanics.

Thom Blackburn

After the PlayStation presentation today I am left wondering, when is Sony announcing the BluePoint acquisition and what are they working on? Please tell me it's not another remake

Andrew Harwood

Hey Ben and the rest of the lovely staff and guests! I have 2 choices for you and you have to pick one. Would you rather have a perfect memory of all your favorite games but never get to play them ever again, or your memory of the game is immediately erased every time you play through it. Also, if you start a playthrough of one of the favorites you have to finish it before you play anything else. -Andy in Chicago
