Hola, Who is the smartest person you know personally well (no need to name them), but why are they to you so smart and what constitutes being smart? Thanks.

Thom Blackburn

NYC is cool I guess... but can I please have a game set somewhere else? What under-represented city would you like to see an open-world game tackle? (Other than Minneapolis) Thanks, Thom

Hi Kelsey, I love your podcast. Hello Minnmax, I love your podcasts too. You know how old videogames are often kinda bad? Partly because they were limited by their technology but also partly because people didn't know a lot about game design? What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that if you sent a few modern videogames back to the year 1980, it would dramatically change the videogame timeline? Could we have dropped the idea of "lives" in games even sooner?

Jake Z

What's the time loop GOTY so far?

draintheswampert

What's the most heartbreaking change a franchise made for you? For me it was tales of arise choosing to only be single player as the main draw of the tales series was being a JRPG my brother and I could play together.

RickyWinterborn

if you could get one game back that you traded into gamestop as a kid, what would it be? mine would probably be the zelda ocarina of time collection for gamecube.

umryan

If you were all hidden playable characters, how would you be unlocked?

Keaton

Hello MinnMax Gang, I have been thinking a lot about Deathloop and how it seems to defy fitting into a traditional genre. It’s not quite a roguelite, not really a traditional FPS, and not totally an immersive sim. What other games can you think of that don’t really fit well into any established genre or maybe make their own class of games? Also, I am getting married this Saturday. Can I get a big woo hoo from the MinnMax squad?

RiskyChrisP

Hey MinnMax, If you had to integrate any video game protagonist’s outfit into your wardrobe, who’s would it be? And yes, you have to wear it out in public at least once a month!

Victor Pham

Should all videogames eventually come to PC? What would be the equivalent of a public domain for videogames? It's a shame that so many games are just shackled to the hardware they originally released and gamers today can't play them.

TheName'sPug

Hey everyone, What was the last game you restarted almost immediately after finishing it? I'm on my second playthrough of Life is Strange: True Colors, and I think it's the first one for me. Thanks for all you do!

Tyler Sticka

Hi, MinnMax! I have a question for Kelsey: As a historian, business owner and retro game fan, what are your thoughts on the Karl Jobst "Scam Alert" video and the increasing prominence of video game speculation?

John

Hello Commuter’s Heroes, I just finished Sayonara Wild Hearts (Yes, still behind the times). Words fail me, the best way I could think to put it is I genuinely think the world would be a lesser place without this gem’s existence. My question for you all, are there games like that for you? Games that when you finished it, it hit you, maybe it summoned tears, maybe it restored your hope in humanity; this game had an impact on your life in a way greater than purely entertainment. A couple come to mind for me personally, Nier Automata Child of Light Hellblade Outer Wilds (shout out to Jacob Geller’s Essay) Slime Rancher (time and place when those credits rolled) Just me? Thanks, Just John

Hi CLCs, First time long time. I have a pretty interesting history with some popular game franchises that you might enjoy laughing at. For example in the final fantasy series I’ve only played crisis core. In metal gear solid I’ve only played ground zeroes. Are there any series that you’ve enjoyed but for some reason have gaping holes you’ve not filled. Cheers, damo

Leafeonn (Josh K)

Helllloooooooooooooo Nurse, I've played Persona 5 and loved it, I've tried to get through FFIX, I've played Golden Sun, but I think the game to finally fully win me over to the JRPG genre with momentum is Tales of Arise. Its style splashed on me in a way I did not expect and I absolutely love it. So, what games have you played that won you over to an entire genre? Thanks, Your friend, Leafeonn

Chris Becker

Janet and Gang! How’s it going? I certainly hope everyone is getting ready for February with it now suddenly becoming overly crowded. That’s neither here nor there. My question is this…what’s been the cheapest game to become game of the year? I’m talking the year it came out. Any 10 dollar or less games still your stop spot for game of the year?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey, gang! Ben, tell JeffM Grizzled Gaming says "hello". He'll know what it means. What’s everyone’s biggest pet peeve? Pre-pandemic mine was the “dead fish” handshake, now it’s almost any handshake.

Styster

If you were a Mega Man boss, what would your name be? What power would you have?

Habeeb Adejare

Hello Gang, on a previous podcast you guys mentioned that you've really started to read more books, I wanted jump in and ask if any of you have tried some audio books and if you had any favorite narrators. I personally like the team of Kate Reading and Michael Kramer, are really good at providing unique voices for different characters. To keep this video game related I recently found out that Jennifer Hale did an audiobook with the author of the Eragon series.

Bryce Blackmore

Gday cohorts! What is the oldest game you can think of which you still consciously avoid spoiling for others when discussing it? Follow up question, why are there some games that people never spoil but others we are happy to?

Stephan

Hey there MinnMax cohorts and guest! I really love reading and learning about how things are made, specifically movies and video games. There are so many interesting details and stories behind the games we love. In that regard what are some of your favourite documentaries/accounts of game development? I really enjoyed the NoClip documentaries about Final Fantasy 14 and Hades.

PoorAndCurly

Hey gang, What's your favorite or most listened to, non-gaming related podcast?

Travis Brinkley

Hey MinnMax, I was thinking of a question to submit but I’ve been waiting for 4 hours for a tow truck to take my car to get a new tire. So my question is, can you fix a flat tire? You do not have to fix mine.

Hunter Sax

Hey hi hello, Do you ever have gaming slumps? I love video games and it's one of my favorite escapes. I want to play something and enjoy it, yet nothing is quite doing it for me right now. Do you ever feel like this with games?

Jordan Holmdahl

Hey all, If you had to pick now, before the tidal wave of fall/winter releases, which game would you argue has the best moment of the year when it's time for GOTY debates? Please don't spoil the moment necessarily; this is just a question that popped into my head after finishing Life is Strange: True Colors over the weekend. There is a sequence in that game that was so shocking and delightful, it left me overwhelmed with joy and I can't imagine another game topping the excitement of that moment.

Rich McLaughlin

Hey Cohorts! There have been a lot of timeloop roguelikes recently, it seems to be the new “battle royale” trend. Does it have staying power? It’s so hard to get right, and I am feeling burned out. But Returnal for GOTY of course

Daniel Boateng

What's up, peeps? A couple of weeks ago I saw a tweet from Janet talking about something along the lines of how games journalists don't need to have a "resume" of games they have beaten to be taken seriously, and it got me thinking... if you did have to put together a resume of your greatest video game accomplishments, what would they be? Mine would probably be beating Fire Emblem Fates Conquest on the hardest difficulty, killing Sigrun in God of War on the hardest difficulty, and defeating the Nameless King in Dark Souls 3 (literally took me days). Mahalo!

Fatt Mish

Hey Minnmax crew! What's the best video game to feature a product crossover with a major advertising focus? Is it one of the Burger King games? Cool Spot? Yo! Noid? Or maybe that weird MC Games for NES? I'm sure there are better examples. Anyway, keep up the great podcast and take care. -Mars from Minnesota

Hello all! What are some of your "gaming regrets?" As a kid, did you choose one console over another, but in hindsight felt you made the wrong choice? Are there games you wish you played or played more of, but years have gone by and you no longer have the tech to play them or you know that if you did, they probably wouldn't have the same impact on you as they would have years earlier?

Tokyo Game Life

Minnmax, If your daily life was a WarioWare micro game, what would you do in it?

Bryan Tylec

Hi everyone, I gotta say that there has never been a game that I have found more irritating than Death Loop. I've never even played it and I already hate it and it irritates me even more that figuratively everyone is so in love with it. I am so tired of games where cool guys do cool guy things and say cool guy catch phrases while acting completely blasé about all the horrible atrocities they are committing and having committed against them. This game seems like it was made by "bro"s for "bro"s and I am definitely not a "bro" and it just makes me think that I like games but I am absolutely not a "gamer". Do you guys ever feel like this? How do you fight against it and stay interested in the medium?

MakeItUnclear

On Trivia Tower this month, Christian Spicer brought up how everyone could immediately recognize games from the Nintendo 64 era by visuals alone, even if they didn't know the game. It got me thinking: Will there ever be a nostalgic renaissance of low-poly 3D adventure and platformer games the same way designers have recently returned to the 8- and 16-bit pixel art style? Will we ever see a string of stylized Ocarina of Time clones the way we see so many Link to the Past clones today? Or do the jagged edges and abstract character features place that whole era into an uncanny valley that we don't want to live through again?

Konnichiwa tomodachi's fun Q, hard Q, dealers choice. Fun Q, when's the last time at the end of a game during the credits you just sat back an stared at the screen, either from confusion, disbelief, anger, or pure joy, tell us about it. Hard Q, what can we mindful gamers do besides speak with our wallet an not be toxic to help the industry as a whole. Can we help push towards unionization in any way, what other ways can we hold the line against the trend of monetization over gameplay? Any talks about these things amongst your gaming journalismish peers?

DangerZone

Hey Cohorts, Have you held out on playing a game because you knew you would like it too much? I did this with Control because I knew I would neglect the current games I was playing at the time. Am I weird? As this ever happened to yall? P.S. I did end up playing Control this year and it’s everything I ever wanted Thanks!!

Mike Po

Greetings Ben and the Cohorts! I play a fair number of JRPGs and I know that these games get a lot of flak for tropes and cliches: Power of friendship, fight God at the end of the game, the bog standard overly sexualized female party member and older grizzled, possibly perverted, male party member. But you know what? I cant help but love these tropes. Every time the rock remix kicks in for a final boss's second form or someone gives a sappy speech to inspire the protagonist, it feels like chicken soup for my soul. Are there any other video game tropes that just get you every time, even though you know they're cliche? Interested to hear your thoughts!

Ian Switaj

Hello MinnMax crew and Kelsey. Recently an acquaintance of mine recommended Digital Foundry's DF Retro documentary about the history of the F-Zero series to me and I was impressed in learning about the development history of the entire series as well as some of the tidbits of how the games were optimized to run at a consistent 60 FPS. My question for all of you is do you have a particular game, game series or gaming historical figure that you would want to see a documentary of? Would it be a retrospective of an entire franchise, an in-depth look at a single entry? How much of a discussion regarding the challenges and their work arounds would you like to hear about?

Ian Switaj

Hello MinnMax crew! As of this writing my copy of Tales of Arise hasn't arrived in the mail yet, but I have completed 15 of the 16 "Mothership" titles in the franchise so I have an idea of what I'm in for. That said, I'm already thinking about what I want my main party composition to be and I've come to the realization that I always seem to gear towards a particular party setup. This happens as well in other JRPGs to a lesser extent, but with Tales games in particular my party always seem to comprise of: 1. The main character (usually a male sword wielder) whom I would main as. 2. A healer/white mage (whom is more often than not the female lead of the game). 3. An offensive magic user / black mage. 4. Another physical fighter who can add support with either offensive or healing magic (kinda like a red mage). I suppose this question doesn't have to be geared towards RPGs, but whenever you play a game is there a particular party composition or character build that you find yourselves drawn to? As a bonus, what role would each member of the panel be (though I think we all know JeffM would be the devilish rouge)?

Dunder

Hey Ben and the CLCs, Last week you mentioned how we have now reached the tipping point of the year when all the big fall games will start releasing. There are so many highly anticipated games coming out in the next 6 months that it can feel overwhelming if one is trying to play most of them. If you had to choose, which one upcoming game releasing between now and March 2022 do you want to spend the most time playing?

Stephen Woodson

Welcome back Kelsey! With the recent rumors of Gameboy and Gameboy Color games potentially coming to Switch Online, it got me thinking about what I consider "retro". Personally, I think Gameboy and Gameboy Color games are "retro", but Gameboy Advance onward are not. I don't have a real reason for it though, just a gut feeling. Where would you draw the line at "retro"? With Kelsey's background, is there a specific definition for what is "retro" and similar descriptions? Do you find anecdotally that people tend to refer to the same time period as retro, or it differs per person? Thanks as always for the great show! -Stephen

Hi Minnmax! Picture this, you have just moved into a new home that has an extra room that won't be used. You decide to make this your gaming/movie room. Once everything has been set up, you realise that the walls have space for 4 posters. Which game/movie posters do you choose to go up on the walls? Do you just pick your favourite game/movies? Or do you go for a unified genre theme?

MickManga

A co worker asked me an interesting question that I wanted to share with you. If you could choose a single console from any company be it Microsoft, Nintendo, PlayStation or otherwise, for the next virtual console. Which would you choose? Myself I have been wishing there was an easy way to play a lot of ps1 games on modern consoles, though the 64 is a close second. Also shout out to the MinnMax anime discord group, you all rock.

Hootz

Hey, Minnmaxers! When the Switch OLED was announced, I was a little surprised. While I didn't expect 4K visuals, I did think we'd get a lot more form factor improvements. The kickstand looks nice, and was on my "Switch Pro wishlist," but ultimately is not enough to make me trade up. One of the key improvements I expected was Bluetooth audio. But as of yesterday, now my vanilla Switch has that feature! Now I'm even less likely to grab an OLED model. Do you think that this firmware update will impact the sales of the OLED this holiday season? Also, with the exception of OS themes/skins (which still feels like it probably won't even happen at this point), what other things do you think we can/will get via firmware updates? Surely nothing better than Bluetooth right?

Joshua Leemon

Hey gang! Since Kelsey is here, 2 quick questions: 1. What is the rarest item a customer has brought in? 2. (For everyone) What game that you sold/traded is your biggest regret? Mine are Lunar 1 and 2 for PS1

Mark H

Youre going on a hunting trip with your friends. You, however, are uncomfortable with hunting animals and need to keep your friends occupied. What console are you bringing and what's your attack plan? (The cabin has wifi)

Sean Mason

Hey CLCs, What is a moment in gaming that had such a large impact that you will never forget the exact moment it happened? For me, it was finally playing Kingdom Hearts III. As a Kingdom Hearts superfan, waiting 12 years to play an official numbered KH game was surreal. Booting up the game for the first time brought me back to 2002 when I was in first grade playing the original Kingdom Hearts. Best, Sean M

God's Garage

How do you go about buying your games? Are you a digital or physical kinda person? Do you budget for your game spending, or do you buy something when it piques your interest? Keep up the great work folks!

Empiric Unicorn

Hey CLCs! Let’s play “Choose Who do the Switcheroo!” If you could switch game and protagonist, which switcheroo would you prefer? 1. Nathan Drake in Super Mario bros 2 or Mario in Uncharted 2? 2. Arthur Morgan in FF7 or Cloud in Red Redemption 2? 3. Max Payne in Resident Evil 4 or Leon Kennedy in Max Payne? 4. Phoenix Wright in Metal Gear Solid or Snake in Phoenix Wright?

Dan Villone

Hi Gang and Hi Kelsey! With all these older games being auctioned for hundreds of thousands of dollars, how does this impact historical preservation? Since these rare items are purchased by private buyers, are you worried that these items will be forever lost to history? Thanks, Dan

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello! When you already know a game exists, what is your favorite kind of preview for it? Do you want staright up gameplay with the HUD and menus? Do you want a CG trailer to preserve gameplay surprises? Do you prefer to read previews and avoid video altogether? Take care!

Geoff Enright

Hello everyone! What's your dream video game? And I mean, have you had a dream about a video game you thought would be awesome only to struggle remembering it after you wake up? -Geoff aka Groffles
