What do you think is keeping well received games like Guilty Gear Strive and Tales of Arise (both 87 on Metacritic) from garnering the same mainstream GOTY attention as games in the same score bracket like Deathloop and It Takes Two?

Is mr plinkett the most influential video essayist?

Philadelphia just passed Chicago has country’s 3rd largest city with Phoenix and Houston hot on Chicago tail. Would you rather live in a dying city where things start off expensive but get cheaper over time or an upcoming city where things are happening and it starts cheaper but gets expensive over time? Fun fact: California is fueling all this cities growth. All the people that can’t afford homes here. California population not really affected, people dying cities or small towns still flock to it. Rural areas in the Midwest is the ones taking the hits.

Hola Cohorts! If you could save scum in real life, what reckless behaviors would you partake in? Motorcycles? Tattoos? More skydiving?

Devin B

Hey cohorts! Do you have any video game related traditions, and if so, how did they start? Every year around Christmas I attempt to complete a run of Pokemon Gold, which I've been doing since I first played it during the Christmas of 99.

RickyWinterborn

i just beat ghosts of tsushima on hard, and the final battle took me at least 50 tries straight. when i finally dealt the killing blow at 3 am i collapsed and had to catch my breath for like 10 minutes. what's the most intense boss fight you've conquered?

Alex Britt

Hi MinnMax, let's talk headphones. In headphones, or ear buds, what are the features/designs you look for? Do you like ear buds that are in ear or clip on ear? Wireless vs corded? What kind of head bar do you like on headphones? Certain kind of nubbins that are must haves? Get specific and weird!

Fred Dinovo

Howdy 'horts, Is "Room Temperature" warm? Cold? Is it the absence of temperature? Take a stand

Brody Weller

Hey everyone! I’ve always loved rhythm games and story games but I’m always arguing with myself on which feeling is a better experience overall. When playing through a game that you’re enjoying, what’s better: falling into the “Tetris effect” and finding yourself in a trance? OR finding yourself in deep thought and inflection about the game and what its themes and ideas are bringing up and challenging you on? Thank you all a bunch for continuing to provide such fun and insightful commentary!!

Hi Guys and Gal, So Neil Druckmann has been officially listed as a director (out of 5) for the The Last of Us HBO Show. How will this impact whatever Naughty Dog is working on. Do you think Neil will start to gravitate towards film & TV and leave games behind if this show breakouts big?? P.S. Jacob's video Artificial Loneliness is one of the most philosophical videos on video games ever, can we do a Deepest Dive on that? haha Thanks.

Khanstorm

Is there a IP that you would like to see get the Marvel / Star Wars treatment? (An IP whose world and universe become a cultural touchstone for a lot of people)

Stephan

Hey there MinnMax! If you were to explain to someone what makes Japanese video games different from Western video games, what would you say? Or does it not matter because there isn’t really a difference? Also, what is your favourite Japanese video game? Cheers!

SassyLuchador

Hey MinnMaxers if you had to pick one person from the gaming industry (dead or alive) to hang out with for a whole day, who would it be? and what will you talk about ? Love you guys <3 keep up the good work !

Fenrir

Lali-ho 'horts, Eastward is out now, and it turns out there's a whole classic 8-bit JRPG inside of it. Apropos of that, what is your favorite game-within-a-game? I don't mean a mini-game or side-quest, but a piece of content so substantial it could be released separately and none would be the wiser. Sincerely, Fenrir

Dustin L

Why do I love Final Fantasy 8 more than any other Final Fantasy, but everybody tells me I'm wrong?

RickyWinterborn

is minnmax making any more docs? id love to see some more stuff like the EMMY winning oregon trail film.

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello to my favorite video essayists on youtube! Like many others, i was completely puzzled by the release day review embargo for Kena, especially since it reviewed so strongly. But since it was a digital-only game (for now), did it really miss out on anything by not having reviews release earlier? Is this a new thing that i am just going to have to get used to?

Toby Martin

Hey Ben and the MinnMax crew. I was wondering if any of you have a least favourite objective/mission types in a game? Mine is either looking for some code or password in a big area (I’m not the most observant) or having to reach an place in a short set time.

Robert Key

I've been playing all the Halo games solo on Legendary to get ready for Halo Infinite! Something that always fascinates me when I play through the series' campaigns is the huge overall quality jump from Combat Evolved to Halo 2 on the original Xbox. What are your favorite examples of jumps in quality where a series got incredible all around upgrades through sequels, where the followups were also on the same consoles as the predecessors?

TookusTalk

Hello Cohorts! Here's the pitch: You are now the owner of your very own record label and you need to press something to vinyl. The catch? It can't be music. What wacky nonsense would yall press to vinyl?

Brian W

So I finally got around to trying out dragons dogma and oh my gosh. It’s dark souls Witcher with a sprinkle of monster hunter! So good! How this game didn’t skyrocket in popularity is beyond me. Are there any games you love that you think should be more popular?

Jimbleshanks

Howdy yall! If you could combine two games mechanically, what would they be? Would it become a new IP? Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Divorced Cougar (Mike M)

Whaddup ‘horts! For each of the three console manufacturers/publishers, you can pluck one IP from a competitor to do whatever they want with. Which IP would you pick for each of Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony? What kind of game would they make? Which studio would you have them put on the project?

PoorAndCurly

Hey Cohorts! There are always going to be the eternal video game debate questions like do violent video games contribute to real life violence, should games be considered art, etc. As the medium advances, what do you think is going to be a future debate or controversial topic that isn't already one?

Mark H

Maneater is a shark rpg. It's pretty insane and a lot of fun. If you could will any creature rpg game into existence, what would it be? And would it be grounded or fantastical? Example: maneater has electric shark and stealthy shadow shark builds

Jake Z

How would you describe the difference between "cheesy," "corny," and "cringe"?

Joseph Stanichar

Hey y'all! I'm happy that it seems to have been a false alarm, but the reviews not coming out for Kena: Bridge of Spirits until the day of release signaled a "red flag" for a lot of people. What other red flags do you notice the most in games media that might suggest a delay or sub-par product, and can you think of some times those red flags were proven right or wrong?

Justin

Hey Ben and Cohorts, With Fall now upon us, do you have games, tv, or other media that you associate with certain seasons? For some reason, every Fall I get on an original Law and Order kick and watch a ton of old episodes. Who doesn't love Detective Lenny Brisco!? Keep up the great work!

Shawn Mills

With Survivor starting again this week, which video game character do you think would do the best in a game of Survivor? My vote would be Tifa from FF7, she's strong enough to do well in challenges and her experience working in a bar would help her social game.

Funky Duck

Hey there minnmax, Video games are often described as having "the art from *insert game here* with the physics of *insert other game here*" or " it's like they combined _____ with ______". Is there another way to speak to a game's characteristics? I've always thought it was kind of tired, but I'm also often wrong and too lazy to think of anything better. Also--when was the last time (before DokeV) that you just couldn't come up with a single solid comparison for a game? Thanks!

Joe Garcia

Hello CLCs! After hearing the crew talk about Tales Arise on the podcast last week I had to check it out. Especially after hearing Ben mention how much he loves characters yelling out moves they are performing. 25 hours in and I am in love with the game. The ultimate game for someone who loves “ characters yelling out moves “ !

Fatt Mish

Hi Minnmax Crew. Is there ever a certain type of interactive entertainment that you wish was better represented in video games? I personally would like to see more gaming experiences that delve into the mystery and drama fields that we often see in movies and TV.

WinterMuteWins

A few years ago I was stuck in bed for several months due to surgeries (I’m fine now) and right after the surgeries Persona 5 came out. normally I go for shorter games because I’m busy but it was so helpful at that time to have a game I could play like it was full time job. There is literally no other period in my life I would’ve put 120 hours into a game but I’m thankful I did because P5 is a top five game of all time for me now. Has there ever been a game release that felt tailored to your personal life?? Something that hit at exactly the right time?

chris cuevas

Hey MinnMax crew and hello Jacob as well. Do you prefer in game day night cycles, pre determined time of day, or day night cycles that change with your real world time? As a kid I thought Pokémon Gold/Silver having a real time day/night cycle was the coolest thing because I actually had to secretly stay up late looking for 'mon that only appeared at night. On the other hand, some games such as horror games just work better when it's only at night time but I also appreciate open world games with in game day/night cycles because you get to experience how the world looks during all times of day without having to play at specific times of day. What are your thoughts?

Bob Buel

Howdy Minnxes! What video game names/locations/equipment do you unapologetically butcher the pronunciation of? Perhaps games before the era of voice acting and have mispronounced your whole life and is now just burned into your brain that way? Thanks Bob

Nick Beattie

Hey Ben and cohorts, I have been catching up on the Blank Check Podcast lately and have been wondering if there is such thing as a “blank check” within the games industry. In other words, is there a game director or studio that, after achieving massive success, is given the opportunity to work on a game that they are really passionate about? Personally, I can see this with Shigeru Miyamoto and the Pikmin franchise, but I am interested in what y'all have to say on this! Keep up the great work!

Solo

What was the first game you finished with a non-lethal option? Did you go pacifist all the way? Did it change how you play games after that? Bye.

Mason

Hey everyone, I finished deathloop's story a few days ago and I was actually relieved it wasn't a outrageously long and drawn out game. I feel lazy when I play a bunch of games but never roll credits on any. I typically don't play indie games so I miss out on short bite sized games, and I can't count how many 100+ hour buffet style I've started but never finished. That got me thinking what are some of your favorite "healthy meal" sized games and do you prefer "bite sized" "meal sized" or "buffet sized" games? Thanks and keep rocking! P.S. Legends of dragoon is underrated and could use some remake love.

Ed K

Hi MaxMinners, Get a glass of milk ready, I have a spicy take: I don’t like hunting or killing animals in open world games. Don’t care if it’s a dog attacking in ghost of Tsushima or stalking an animal in red dead redemption, I don’t like it. I’ll happily clear out an enemy outpost of nameless drones, but feel bad hurting the animals. It’s a bit of a trope in open world games. My question - do you have a trope in open world games that you don’t like? Keep up the good work Ed

Empiric Unicorn

Hey CLCs! What gameworld do you know better than your own backyard?

Jonathan Fenn

Hey MinnMaxers, I recently finished Dark Souls for the first time, my first Soulsbourne game (side note - happy 10th birthday Dark Souls). While playing the game, I was sending clips, screenshots and stories to my friend, as it's his favourite game, and I found that going through the experience while getting reactions from someone who is much more familiar with the game really enhanced the experience and made it more memorable. I've done similar things with the Outer Wilds and the Last of Us and think it's a great way to enjoy single-player games in a social way. Do you enjoy playing games this way? Have you had much experience playing a much-beloved game with expert input from a friend? Or do you prefer to just do the whole thing without outside commentary to have a purer experience? Best wishes from the UK, Jonathan

Cody Hester

Dear MinnMax, have you considered collaborating with Last Stand Media? There are patrons that subscribe to both MinnMax's and LSM's podcasts. You all seem fond of Kinda Funny so working with someone from LSM would seem to be a pretty natural fit. I'm enjoying Janet's contributions to MinnMax. Keep on Keepin' on.

MyNameIsDan

Hey friends, Are there any 2021 games that deserve a shout out to ensure people don't forget about them when the time comes to make your GOTY lists? I'd like to give a shout out to Olija, a fantastic action adventure game that released very early in the year. The game has great combat and exploration, and I feel it may be getting slept on a bit. P.S. my top three games right now are 1. Chicory 2. The Forgotten City 3. Olija (And yes, I've played Deathloop). Thanks, Dan

Mike Po

Hello Ben and Cohorts! If you were stuck in a one hour time loop, what would be your escape strategy? And would you even want to escape? Sure you'd be stuck forever but think of the backlog progress you could make!

Kyle Silva

Hey guys. 2021 has been a good year for me to beat a few white whale games for me. I’ve beaten a good amount of games that I’ve been considering of playing for a long while, or started, but never completed, like Yoshi’s Island DS, Mario Pinball Land and Glory of Heracles. It feels good to tie the loose ends of my library and reminiscing a bit. What’s the most recent game that all of you have beaten for the first time, but has not only been released for 10+ years, but has also been on your mind often in that span of time?

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! I know it’s still early in the PS5/Xbox Series X life cycle, but do you think we’ve already seen what will come to define this generation of consoles? And if so, what do you think that is?

Dan Villone

Hi Gang, Have you ever made a game intentionally harder for yourself, beyond just changing the difficulty level? I remember I had an issue of Nintendo Power that had a challenge for Ocarina of Time. The challenge was to beat the game with only 3 hearts and zero deaths. I had already beaten the game a few times, so I tried the challenge. I enjoyed it so much that every time I started a new game, I would always aim for 3 hearts and zero deaths. Any examples like this from your gaming careers? Thanks! Dan

Dunder

Hey everyone, This fall has a heavy FPS lineup - Far Cry 6, Back 4 Blood, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Battlefield 2042, and Halo Infinite. Which of the aforementioned games are you looking forward to most and why? Will you play any of them much beyond the first couple weeks after release?

Palo

Good afternoon, if you could press any video game soundtrack to vinyl, what are you going with?

AMJ22

Hey Gang - Long time first time etc...As I have gotten older, moved a few times, got married, had kids, started a business and all the stuff in life, games has kept me in touch with a single friend the entire time (12 years now). We play games on Wednesday nights for a couple hours and it has been the one thing keeping us in touch. My question to you all is - Have games as a shared experience kept any of your cherished relationships in tact over the years? Cheers!
